This could be a welcome addition to my sons bedroom.Build quality is good. Looks good. Quiet compared to our last purifier. Easy to move around and pleasing on the eye.Our Son is asthmatic being allergic to dust mite and pollen. When hay fever season kicks in he can generally been seen hiding in his bedroom, windows and curtains closed puffing away on his inhaler....eyes streaming, nose streaming, swelling to his eyes can actually look like he’s been physically punched. As a parent it’s heartbreaking to see and you would do anything to help.Enter this purifier. My husband who suffers hay fever also but doesn’t have the luxury of this in our bedroom has been religiously taking tablets, inhaler and eye drops for the last few weeks, as has our son. My husband seems to have faired just as well without the air purifier.Coming up to his GCSEs has been stressful knowing how our sons hay fever can adversely affect him. To date his hay fever hasn’t seemed to be a massive problem, this machine may have been doing it’s job quietly in the background. He seems to be much the same as previous years. Our sons hay fever is dependent on the type of pollen his trigger is Timothy grass and I am pleased that May has passed us by without major incident, and moderate to high pollen count in relation to grass has been in force since mid May....although June and July are usually worse. For me the jury is out short term but I will update this review after the summer has disappeared as to whether or not I feel this purifier has been a lifesaver or not.The app which you download is user friendly. How good or how reliable it is I will confirm after longer use of the product,There are ongoing filter costs which the app advises when you need to replace, all filters are available from Amazon. I have read, that for my comfort the purifier will cease to work if the filter/s are not replaced within a two week period after being advised to replace......this surely cannot be true! I will let you know, this might be referring to a different model I am not sure.Speedy delivery, excellent build quality, very quiet to run and pleasing on the eye can’t possibly be a reason to recommend this to anyone but the quality of the air and lack of allergens in my sons bedroom according to the app would.I don’t like having an app for any equipment in my home to be honest and in the last few weeks they have been receiving very bad press so be mindful of this. There is no information either on Phillips website or anywhere about running costs in relation to this product which I find weird and unnerving. I would not purchase because of this. You buy products according to efficiency and running costs, or at least I do even our homes warrant this yet there are no clear figures out there. The filters are priced At over thirty pounds each. The app tells you when to replace. The device/product runs and decides when the filter is spent so how long do the filters last? Well how long is a piece of string perhaps is the answer to this question. How much air is prosessed and how many allergens are detectedin the air will and how hard the purifier works will eventually decide on when your filters need changing, so the cost could vary for each and every machine depending on windows being left open, how old your house is whether you have carpets or hardwood floors, hopefully I’m not just prattling here you see where I am going with this.To further worry me if what I have understood in relation to the filters is actually true then this machine will be useless if I don’t replace filters within two weeks of the app telling me I have to.We have just set this to work as we wished to have it in place for the hay fever season the worst of which is yet to come. When I spend vast amounts of money on electrical items I read reviews, I check on the manufacturers website, read trusted reviews such as Which, compare prices, running costs, replacement filters/parts costs etc. Before even spending a penny. From my research on this I would have most probably overlooked it as it’s vagueness and cost would have been off putting. The specs promise a lot but whether it actually lives up to the hype remains to be seen.So for now I shall keep using, I will add to my final review in September/October.It’s amazing. My sons hay fever struck full force about a week after I wrote this review. He was debilitated eyes streaming, swollen, itching, a sneezing asthmatic mess to be frank. His bedroom has become his sanctuary in there with this machine running he is himself. It gives him instant relief you wouldn’t even know he has hay fever or allergies at all....I am amazed and thankful to have been the recipient of this machine to review. I would happily give this a five star review if it wasn’t for the expense of the refills

Although we had become increasingly aware of the dangers and prevalence of air pollution, I hadn’t considered that this was something that I needed to do something about until my grandchild developed asthma. Now she and my guests who suffer with hay fever will be able to get a better night’s sleep with this air purifier that captures from 80% to 99.97% of particles that get trapped in the filter, some as small as 0.3 microns which is the size of most common airborne allergens, particles, bacteria and viruses. As we spend 7 – 8 hours in the bedroom possibly longer, then it makes sense to use an air purifier to ensure better air quality. This air purifier greatly improved my grand daughters asthma when she came to stay. This Philips AC1214/60 Series 1000ai has the capacity to purify small to medium rooms of up to 200 square feet, so it’s ideal for most bedrooms or even small living rooms. We found the low hum on the lowest setting reassuringly comforting and easy to sleep with. I am further reassured by it’s Philips ‘AeraSense’ technology that senses the slightest change in indoor air conditions as it continuously monitors the air and automatically adjusts the fan speed when it detects changes in particles. The Indoor Allergen Index is a real time numerical display that provides visual and immediate feedback on indoor allergen levels, more dramatically it also changes the colour of the disc to indicate the air quality levels ranging from red which is very poor to blue which is good. There is also a very easy to use App that not only changes the fan speed or enables one to set a schedule but also informs us of the indoor and outdoor air quality. So by knowing the outdoor pollution and pollen data I know when to ventilate the rooms, (not in the morning when I’m avoiding pollen or when there is heavy rush hour traffic), however I’ve also learnt the importance of ventilation. I have found that Philips air purifiers are highly rated in the industry, with their cutting edge sensing and purification technology, they have been tested and have proved that they effectively reduce allergens, odours and VOCs. The pre-filter and True HEPA filer remove particles and the Active Carbon filter reduces gases and odours. I have now become more aware of the effect of air fresheners, paints, DIY, candles etc. on our air quality. In time I will be able to create our personal allergen management programme and choice of indoor products. It is easy to move the purifier as it has a comfortable handle behind the display panel. I found the setting and starting the machine simple and the digital display a good size and easy to read. I’m glad that it has a filter replacement indicator as if they are not replaced, the air purifier will quite simply stop operating and automatically lock. The multi lingual instruction manual is as always essential reading. It informs, recommends and warns e.g. I hadn’t thought that it is a danger to spray any flammable materials such as insecticides or fragrance around the appliance or that having a purifier does not substitute for proper ventilation, vacuum cleaning or use of an extractor fan or hood. The positioning of the machine is also very important for it to work properly as it must have at least 20cms around it and 30cms free space above it. So for optimal performance we need to close doors and windows, keep curtains away from the air inlet or air outlet and have the machine facing away from walls or furniture. Common sense once it is pointed out but as with all new appliances not immediately obvious. My only niggle is the diagrammatic instructions which I found a challenge for the old grey cells but given time and many cups of tea I managed to figure them out. For added reassurance that I had understood them correctly I would have preferred to have written instructions too.Now that I realise the advantages of air purifiers and understood how they work I have been able to resist the temptation of buyer cheaper ones from the supermarkets without researching their effectiveness. Philips have a good after sales service so that gives me more confidence to purchase their effective although pricey air purifiers.

The Air Purifier looks like the quality build you would expect for the price. It is as sleek in the flesh as it is in the pictures. The physical setup was easy, removing plastic from the filters and inserting them back in place again. That's where the simplicity stopped, however.Firstly, there was locating the app that is referred to in the instruction manual. There is one by the name 'Air Matters' but it is by a different software company. Eventually, I figured to try it and it did turn out to be the correct app. Next, connect to wifi; again a problem. The app informed me it couldn't connect to my wifi and I must reconfigure my wifi. It turns out that despite my router broadcasting on 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz,the app would only connect if I reconfigured my phone to pick up the 2.4GHz broadcast. Whew - no network reconfiguration necessary!Once the app was up and running and connected to the Air Purifier I was in business. Straight away it let me know the air quality in my bedroom was poor. After about 20 minutes on a medium fan speed, it changed to good quality. It did, however, keep flicking back an forth between number 2 and number 4 on the air quality rating. The unit emits a strong colour based on the air quality reading, which is helpful so you can see at a glance what the air quality in the room is. I found the controls on the unit less intuitive than expected, and prefer to use the app to control it as the app is good and clear. When placed in silent mode, the light turns off, so it is completely unobtrusive at nighttime. It was so silent I thought the unit had gone to sleep. I couldn't hear a hum or whir from it at all.One thing I did notice, when leaving it running in the bedroom for several hours with door and curtains closed (single glazing), the room felt cold when I walked in, and it had a distinctive odour to it. My nose adjusted to the smell quickly but I did wonder why fresh air smelled. It does blow out cold air so over a period of time must have an impact on room temperature. The app is on the whole very helpful in providing details about the air quality in the room. It also provides local air quality information, which I am finding helpful. I live right next to the M4 and the air quality reported poor as a consequence; interestingly though, in the middle of the night when the motorway was quiet, the air quality score improved considerably. It also provides information about air quality in cities around the world. What is really helpful is the pollen information; it's not just 'pollen', it is broken down into different pollen sources and it provides a weekly air quality forecast. It is naughty of Phillips to not have produced their own app to control their equipment, the app is not difficult to build and the data sources are readily available on the internet. It is a shame they rely on a Chinese app to do the job for them.On the whole, this is an excellent quality product that works well and does a good job day and night without causing any disturbances. I definitely like it. It dropped a star for the faff in the beginning of the setup with connecting to wifi and relying on a Chinese app.

Installation:Although a fair size, the unit is light and easy to lift out of the box. Setup is simple - remove the tape holding panels in place for transport, remove front panel, take out filters and remove plastic wrapping, put filters back, put panel back on. Then just plug it in where you want it (cable is about a metre, so you need space near a socket, or an extension cable. There is no remote control, but you can install an app (iOS or Android) which you can link to the unit via wifi. This means you can monitor the readings on the unit and conduct basic controls from across the room or elsewhere in the house. I had not problems pairing the device with the app,but it takes a little while so be patient!Use:After you turn on the unit, it measures air quality and gives a digital readout (from 1 to 12, 12 being worst). As it works, this number will fall. There is also a softly glowing circle on the front, which is colour-coded: red for very poor and gradually more blue for better. You can change the brightness of this (for night use) or even turn off altogether. You can set a timer in units of 1 hour, up to 12, if you want the unit to work just for a certain time then switch off.By default, the unit is in 'auto' mode, where it changes fan speed as required. In Auto, you can choose between 'General', 'Allergen' or 'Bacteria & Virus'. Allergen makes the unit more sensitive to small changes, and Bacteria&Virus boosts the fan speed for faster removal. You can also take control and manually set fan speed if you want, or press the Turbo button for a boost of fan speed. There is an excellent 'sleep mode' which is super-quiet and turns off all lights.Maintenance:The manual recommends that you clean the sensor every 2 months, by simply wiping with a damp clothThere is a 'pre filter' which is a mesh covering the main filters. When this needs cleaning, the unit will display a code, and you just unclip it, rinse under running water, dry and reattach. Finally, there are two main filters which cannot be cleaned, but must be replaced when clogged. Again, the unit displays a code when one or both need replacement. You should factor this cost into your decision to buy. Which magazine reckons you should assume replacement 6-monthly, for a unit in regular use.Effectiveness:I have this unit in my bedroom and, anecdotally, my wife and I have noticed a marked reduction in how much we are sneezing in bed (from dust/pollen?). However, this is very subjective.Which magazine testing showed that the unit removed 88% of particles (compared to some that took out only 40%) and rated it a Best Buy. That's as good a technical test as you will get.Overall:I would never have said I NEEDED an air purifier, but having tried this, I can really see the benefit. This unit is good looking, easy to move, easy to install and works really well. It has all the functions you could want to customise it to your needs. If you are in the market for an air purifier, this has to be high on your list.

I’ve had two different design vax purifiers break down on me now within a short period of time. So I was looking for something of a different brand. This Philips machine came very high up on the Which? magazine app as one of their best buys. I set it up in minutes. The only thing that wasn’t smooth was WiFi linking, which I had to run twice to connect. It helps if you can turn off your 5ghz WiFi network as this connects to the 2.4ghz one. If you don’t have separate WiFi names for each WiFi band then you may run into setup problems (or just have to keep trying until you hit pot luck like I did!).I run the machine in auto mode. Machine is quiet on the low setting (blue light). So quiet that I don’t think I’d ever need the extra quiet nighttime mode even if it was in the bedroom. The next speed up (blue/pink light ) is still quiet. The next speed up gives you a purple light and you can hear the fan running faster in a medium size room. It still didn’t distract me from hearing the tv, but it was noticeable. The max setting (red) it seems to go to when someone is mid-cigarette and stays like that for 20-30 secs! It’s a noticeable whoosh sound but I’ve found it to be much much quieter than even the medium fan speed on either of my vax machines. So the machine doesn’t bother me at all and doesn’t require me to alter the tv volume whichever speed it’s on.I’m impressed at how sensitive the sensors are and how quick it responds to smoking, dust being kicked up cleaning or smells coming in from the kitchen.I changed the display from allergy mode to pollution mode which gives you a better number range (allergies 1-10 and pollutants 1-500) and I run the sensor in allergy mode. The allergy mode basically makes the machine respond more intensely to allergy’s and it may ramp up the speed faster than on normal mode upon detecting them. The virus and bacteria mode make the machine run at a slightly higher speed even when air figures are good, when the machine is idling. The idea of this is to increase air flow in the room to reduce germs.General mode makes the machine run at normal speed and the sensor for allergy’s is turned down and responds at the same level as it does for pollutants and dust. It doesn’t let the machine use the turbo mode and will max out on speed 4 of 5.The filters are expensive. First filter is washable and shouldn’t need replacing (unless you break it!) with reminder every 350 hours. Carbon filter set at 2400 hours (replacement cost around £40) and hepa filter at 4800 hours (replacement cost around £50). Remaining time is shown in the app.App controls all modes of the machine from anywhere and is generally very good.

I have been running the Philips Series 3000i AC3829/60 Air Purifier and Humidifier for about a month and so far it seems to be doing all I expected of it – time will tell how effective it will be long-term when there is pollen about. Setup is fairly straightforward but there are a few tips that may be useful. The unit is quite large and is floor-standing – so the box it arrives in is fairly heavy! Once the unit is unpacked the filters need to installed and the water tank filled up – the cost of replacing filters needs to be factored into your purchasing decision. The Philips AC3829/60 can be connected to your Wi-Fi so you can use the “Air Matters” app – this is not a Philips app but one that works with a variety of other devices too.To pair this air purifier to your router you need to download the app – I am using the iOS version – then connect your Smartphone wirelessly to the unit, instead of to your router, then follow the instructions in the app – you will need to input the passcode for your router. To use the app you will need to either create an Air Matters account or log in using one of your social media or other online IDs; the app will then display the air quality actually detected by your machine's sensor as well as for other towns and cities around the world. The Philips AC3829/60 has three auto-modes: general, allergen and sleep to suit your requirements at the time – we have so far found the general mode to be the best for us most of the time – and you can choose either 2-in-1 or purifier only mode. We have used this machine in a few different locations and it is quite quiet when running and can be used in the bedroom without disturbing us too much at night. This is an attractive and well designed product from a brand with a good reputation for this type of device and it could prove a good investment for many allergy-sufferers. However, at nearly five hundred pounds currently from Amazon, and with the ongoing running costs of the replacement filters, this is not a cheap option so careful consideration will need to be given before purchasing. This is a well thought-out machine that will probably do what you expect it to – the app is a useful touch but you can use the machine quite happily without it. A five star product for the right user – my only concern is the ongoing running costs.

I've suffered with a blocked nose in bed for a very long time, but since a cold in January 2018, I regularly wake up during the night with a bone-dry mouth and, often, too, a raspy throat. It has become an even more difficult issue for me because it’s made my insomnia far worse and leaves me feeling pretty miserable during the mornings at least. I've tried antihistamines, steroid sprays, decongestants, nasal rinses and the next step was an ENT specialist which, in cowardice, I've been putting off. I've looked at air purifiers several times on Amazon, but the costs can be high. You can imagine my thrill at being asked to test this one. But. I’ll be honest – I was very sceptical given the long-term issue I faced.Well,I've been using it now only for a few days, now, but I've decided to write an early review as it has worked so well up to this point. I’m hoping that I’m not tempting fate by doing so but, since the first night, although I still wake up thanks to my insomnia, I wake up breathing easily. The clear nose is meaning that I can get back to sleep much more quickly and my days have been the best for a very long time. I am no longer waking in the morning with a sore throat and dry mouth and although I never feel “refreshed and well”, I can’t complain. Actually, I’m still in some disbelief that this thing is working but, only on one night only so far, have I woken with just one nostril blocked, otherwise it’s been 100% success.I run the Philips on high for a short while before I get into bed, then switch it to "Sleep" mode, which is whisper quiet in operation. I set the humidity to 50%, but last night tried 40% with success I am sleeping with the windows closed, having aired the room during the daytime well; I also push the door to, but not fully as I like the thought of having some air enter the room. Also, when I get up during the night, I leave the door open for those few minutes. The downside is its size – it's a large item. It sits next to our white bedroom drawers where it looks least intrusive. The upside of its size must be that it moves and processes a great deal of air very quickly and also very quietly. I’m a really light sleeper but the slight noise from the machine hasn’t disturbed me once – in fact, it’s rather soothing, akin to gentle white noise.

With the central heating constantly on drying out the air, I wanted something to rehumidify the air – especially for my baby over the colder period. Although this is smaller than a dehumidifier, it’s still a substantial piece to have in a room at 13.5” tall and 9” in diameter. The cable is a decent length at around 69” (1m 75cm) long and the unit is so easy to operate. It comes in pretty much 3 parts – the top section with cable attached, the base which is just the hollow tank where you add the water and the filter which goes inside it which is like a honeycomb of crepe paper but quite substantial in size. There’s a max water level limit on the inside so easier to take the filter out, fill it to max and place the filter back in. When the top is then placed back on there are only 2 operating options – high or low. High is a bit like a fan in terms of noise and how it works by spinning the filter – it’s quieter than my laptop fan though and low still produces a sound but it’s a very consistent sound so if you did have it on overnight, would be unlikely to cause a disturbance but should also get used to quite easily. The biggest downside I find though is there’s no indication of what the humidity level in the room actually is so it’s fine saying it should be between 40 – 60% but there’s no way of knowing if that has been reached or maintained. The only way I would be able to check it is to switch my dehumidifier on which does give a reading. I also find that because I’m using this with the central heating to help replace the moisture that’s being lost, it can counteract the heating process because it emits cool air like a fan – good in a way because it keeps air circulating rather than concentrating the humidity to one portion of the room but I don’t like sitting next to it – a bit like sitting next to a draft. The filter will need replacing at least once a year but the instructions also point out that if you do leave it for long periods you need to check it for mold (dark spots) before reusing it. There is quite a bit of maintenance too with the unit needing cleaned once a week but worth it so you know it is clean mist coming from it.

I snapped this up when it became up for review because it was good timing for my father – as an ex-smoker he'd been diagnosed with COPD a year or so beforehand, and anything that would benefit him and make life a little more comfortable was worth a try. Admittedly this was 'probably' too much of a machine for him – he's not tech savvy and it's quite a large item to sit in my parents small one-bed bungalow – but we tried it out anyway!I was with him when it arrived and help set it up... it's actually pretty simple. The controls are straightforward to use, meaning I could leave my parents alone with it and not fear them causing a malfunction. (My folks did not use the WiFi functions; they just don't use computers).I'd visit my parents about once per month there's quite some distance between us, but this meant I could also check on the filter, etc... it appeared to have done a very good job at catching the nasties in the air – especially my mother's smoking (which she swore she never did in the house with my dads COPD; clearly she was lying!) – and my father repeatedly praised the machine on our phone calls, saying how his breathing had eased since having this running, and that using the Sleep Mode in his bedroom caused him no loss of sleep. His only complaint was actually about the cord length; as he had to unplug it when he moved it from the front room to their rear bedroom... that's a minor grumble as far as I'm concerned. Having had this for about a year, we changed the filter three times.. not because we had to but because I wanted to. (After that year we got the terrible news that my father had lung cancer, and a few months ago he lost his battle with it. I'm grateful that we had this machine to aid his health for the that we had it – and I've since given the machine to the elderly relative of a close friend, so it's helping someone else now.)I wish I could say to you how excellent the hi-tech wireless functionality is on this machine, but I don't really know. I do now that the 'basic' functionality does exactly what it promised, and although it's not an inexpensive machine, it's likely to be worth your money.

Simply put, this Philips air purifier is undoubtedly the best air purifier I have used. Whisper quiet allows you to use in a bedroom whilst sleeping. Although the size of it may be off-putting to some, this is the size to expect from all good air purifiers. It is surprisingly light in weight and easily transported from room to room. It has a built-in sensor and will display the quality of the air in the vicinity by the colour of the light at the front, Blue for good, red for poor and in-between colours for varying quality. A feature I like... the Philips air purifier will display different codes letting you know when the filters require changing. These are very simple to remove and replace. This purifier is a must for people suffering from airborne allergens. Asthmatics, and Rhinitis sufferers alike will almost certainly benefit, particularly living in towns and cities. When the pollen count is high, put the purifier on the fastest setting for 10 minutes or so, this will easily eradicate most of the aggravating nasties in your home, (claims 99%). It has 5 different speed setting from whisper quiet sleep mode to a turbo setting. Also, different mode settings including Allergen mode, Bacteria and Virus mode. This air purifier it really is good for creating a pure atmosphere in the room when someone is not feeling well, especially if they have a respiratory problem, due to a cold, or other viruses, bronchitis, or blocked noses in general. Last night, my grandson had a bad congested chest, so we put the air purifier in his bedroom... and the air felt fresh and the machine was very quiet. He slept really well. I think that was due to the good quality of the air purifier. You can download an app to your phone which enables you to monitor the air quality and allergen level, also giving you the control to change the speed of the fan to ensure your home is at its best air quality when you arrive home from work etc. Use the purifier when cooking to eradicate some of those smells filling the house, its terrific. I give this air purifier a well deserved 5 stars

We have acquired air filters for 3 heavily used rooms so we’ve had a lot of experience with the beasts over the last 5 years. As an air purifier it is about the same size as comparable ones. The replacement filters are fairly pricey, but unlike the other purifiers they are supposed to last about twice as long. All the usual manual controls are there ....only time will see if it is more effective than the other brands at removing indoor VOCs, outdoor pollen and road traffic pollution from daring to open the window. However it is being sold as a smart internet connected device. I was glad I’d actually given the box to my pet techie and said...here, boy, shiny toy, go set up!The stated app doesn’t exist on the Apple Store.Philips tech support couldn't help. He eventually found the app by a different developer which would control the air purifier and the air quality monitor we had. Then the dratted air purifier wouldn’t connect to our network...he had to reconfigure the network back into physically separate 5GHz and 2.4GHz options (it only connects to the 2.4 version). Now we’ve got to go around rechecking if all the wifi connected devices are still connected. Remote control does work though, and it IS a great idea, because we have seen air quality rapidly change on the monitors throughout the day. If you are just about to soend a lot of time in a room, best to improve the air quality first.So. I would have to say that unless you WANT remote control AND have a pet geek to potentially configure your network, you may need to weigh up your options. Although my pet geek does occasionally need an inhaler, for the most part he is only mildly but routinely affected by allergens. It would be great to see if an intense allergy sufferer found any improvement in air quality using this product. Ooh, and the manual states that the product will physically shut down when the filter expires ((the app measures the hours of use) .......so be prepared.

I wanted my dad to try this. He's 80, post-cancer treatment, and "is a saint" to his excema. Being a typical bloke of that generation, he thinks moisturising is "for girls". He only reaches for the E45 when his hands are so dry and cracked they start bleeding. It drives me nuts worrying about him, and costs me a fortune in purchasing various moisturisers in the hope he will use one... so, when I saw this humidifier I jumped at the chance to roadtest it.Firstly, this is big. Very big. If you bought it at the shop, you'd want to put it in the car not carry it home. I made the mistake of having it delivered to work (central London) and found that the only way to get it home was to lose the packaging and take it in two trips. The base unit is heavy! The official photos don't really give a good perspective to grasp the size of this machine. Imagine your kettle x2, or a deep fat fryer, and then you are close to the size. It's not ugly, but it's not a stunner either.Set up is very easy. Follow the instructions and you'll be good to go in five minutes.I can't comment too much on what the machine does. The basic premise is that is removes dust particles from the air and adds moisture to the air particles. Good for coughers, asthmatics, excess etc. It's jiggery-pokey of which I know nothing, all I know is that it seems to do the job - two months into a northern winter/central heating season, when my dad is usually in agony from his excema, he has experienced nothing more than slightly dry skin. So, he's either secretly moisturising or this works. For that reason I would give it five stars, but I am noise sensitive and the whirr of the fan distracts me (it is no louder than the whirr of a fridge fan, if you want a comparable sound).Overall the good outweighs the bad, and it's worth a try!

I have been using this Phillips air purifier for about Two weeks now.First off, as soon as I plugged it in and turned it on (the setup was extremely easy, take the wrapping off the filters and put them back in the machine), the ominous light went red and the indicator showed 12 (the worst air quality setting possible). This made me feel a little dirty that I had been living in these horrible conditions! The purifier ramped it's fan up to 11 and soon blasted out all the nastiness and got the room down to 1.I must admit I was sceptical as to what the point of an air purifier is, but the air feels so much fresher, it's like i'm standing on a mountain top!The fact that you can control it from anywhere using your phone is great.I haven't told my Girlfriend that I can do this, so she thinks the machine is haunted. I'll be at work, and turn it on with my phone, knowing that it'll make a creepy beeping sound or simply go into 'Turbo' fan mode; she has called me numerous times saying 'get this damn haunted machine out of my house!' great fun.I do, however, have a couple of negatives -- Sometimes, on a couple of the lower fan settings, the casing seems to 'buzz' which makes the 'silent' setting not so silent, I must admit that this doesn't happen all the time.- Smoking - back when i used to smoke I would never smoke in the house, but I now use an electric cigarette in the house as it does not produce bad odours/yellow staining. Saying this, the air purifier HATES the electric cigarette. When on Auto Mode, it could casually be on silent mode on a '1' purity score. I then pick up my electric cigarette for a little toot and BOOM air quality shoots up to 12, creepy light goes red and fan goes to 'airplane' loudness. I think maybe it is telling me I should quit.

While there are other more sophisticated stand alone monitors, this monitor and app is easy to set up and completely fine to measure the important PMI 2.5 metric. It doesn't do NOX/VOX/CO.However that monitor will be enough to tell you that it is working. The purifier seems effective usually clearing out any air pollution spike within a few hours or shorter. At high speed it is medium noisy and it does take up a medium amount of space.BUT, my nasal drip / cough in the mornings has been cleared up (I am in West London) and if you think the evidence of the negative impacts of air pollution are strong enough to do something.*I’ve had a long standing tickle cough off/on living in London, but I notice it disappears sometimes when travelling. So, I thought I should measure the air pollution (particularly PM2.5) in my home and perhaps filter. It turns out over the week or so I’ve had my monitor and purifier that significant periods of the day are above 10 µg/m³ which is the WHO recommended level. Now, it’s much worse in poor countries and where cooking is on open stove and dirty fuels, but still that’s higher than I thought or would want.WHO say “…Small particulate pollution have health impacts even at very low concentrations – indeed no threshold has been identified below which no damage to health is observed.”WHO recommends: Fine Particulate Matter (PM2.5)10 μg/m3 annual mean25 μg/m3 24-hour meanI can’t as yet see any particular direct causes for the pollution spikes I am seeing - although one was definitely around cooking, and I think weather has an impact, but I’m glad for the monitor and purifier and if you have the spare wealth I would recommend buying an air purifier and monitor.

I have been using this unit for some time and would not hesitate to recommend it, I used it during the warmer weather when there were higher pollen counts, now I have been using it in the colder, winter months, during the winter weather I think heating the house can make for a dusty environment. The unit is compact and can be set up to operate unobtrusively in a room of average size, I know that others have said that the unit is noisey, even when on sleep mode, however, that has not been my experience of it. It hums quietly, barely perceptibly, it would not annoy anyone who can sleep with the tick, tock of an average bedside clock, or so I believe.I can not comment much about the aesthetic aspect as I really, really believe this is a functional utility, it is not ugly and I guess it would not stick out in most decor but it is not designed, I think, with decor in mind. That said what is really important is the functional aspect. I was a natural skeptic, I will confess, as to most air quality utilities like this one, having used this for a number of months I can say that I really, really would recommend it and that it improved the quality of my sleep, lead to me sneezing less or experiencing congested feelings in the mornings or any sensations of an airway blocked with mucus (I have struggled with this and allergies for years). The unit comes complete with great instructions for setting it up, operating and maintaining it, all of which is not challenging, it does not require strength or dexterity to set up (replace filters etc.) and it does not try the patience either to set up and operate. Recommended.
