I have a beautiful pendant uplighter in my kitchen but it has always been quite energy-hungry with three R7s bulbs. Over the 14 years that I have had it I have gone from using 200W halogen bulbs to 160W, to 120W. When the 120W bulbs gave up the ghost, I was keen to find some low energy LED replacements. Having had some poor experiences in the past with LED bulbs from unknown brands, I was keen to go with a reliable brand like Philips. I am very pleased with the results. These work very well and are extremely bright at full power - incredible for just 14W!I had to replace my old dimmer switch as both the switch AND the new bulbs buzzed noisily when dimmed. After some research I bought a Varilight V-Pro JQP401W dimmer switch, which goes from 0-120W, so fine for using with three of these 14W bulbs. The new dimmer works very well with these bulbs, with no more buzzing from the dimmer or the bulbs. It also has a very good dimming range from very low to full power. The dimmer switch has various programmable settings, but I found it worked perfectly with the default settings. (Note that Varilight has several different series of dimmer switches, but it's the V-Pro series you want if you're looking for no buzzing.)Overall, these bulbs are certainly not cheap, but I'm very happy with them. The quality of light is great for a kitchen/dining room, and the energy saving over equivalent halogen bulbs is fantastic. I'm expecting these to last at least 5 years, which will make them more cost effective over their lifetime.

Depending upon where you look, the spec of these tube replacement varies...which makes it difficult to be sure about what is being purchased. However the main points are that it is a 118mm tube replacement, well made, quite heavy, it IS dimmable and is quoted as a 120W replacement. The two I bought easily replaced the two 120w tubes I was using so in terms of running cost, 240w down to 28w...pretty decent. But very expensive. Payback on an intermittent use basis is unlikely but if you take the capital cost on the chin, the ongoing running cost saving is real.Depending upon your light fitting, the thing to be aware of is that the led lights are not all the way round.I’m not sure what the coverage degree is...looks like say 270 degrees and because the LEDs themselves are arranged in lines along the length of the bulb, and there’s a space between rows, the light isn’t radiated around the full 360 degrees like a halogen tube. The fitting design will affect whether you can take advantage of the full 120w the bulb says it produces. In my case, not all the rows of LEDs shine outwards so I guess the effective light output is less than 120.But having said that, the light still works very well. It dims reasonably smoothly and the quality of light produced is certainly as good as the previous halogens. So although not perfect in my case because of the light radiation angles, it’s still pretty good and I don’t regret buying them. I think depending on your situation, they are worth 5*. I would buy them again.

This particular item is 2000 lumens and is as bright (and because of the colour temp it even looks brighter still) as the halogen bulb it replaced (200Watt) but has the advantage of being the same colour temperature (3000K) at most of the dimming range rather than going 'redder' as the halogen bulb does. There is a point where it 'steps' from off to on (and vice versa) but this is very low on the dimmer range. The design of the bulb is offset and well suited to my 'up-lighter' which has a very tight reflector designed to concentrate the light upwards. This offset bulb design lifts the LED bulb out of the 'reflector well' and this necessitate removing the existing glass UV/explosion cover and it's mounting (two screws)to clear the LED bulb. Not shown in the picture this LED bulb has 4 rows of LEDS in a 180deg arc giving a good light pattern in my lamp.I am very pleased with this replacement and seems to fit the uplighter lamp perfectly, working well on the dimmer, and the light it emits being perfect in colour to me. Watch out though there is a 4000K version and that might be a bit to 'daylight' white for some people.

I used the bulbs to replace two 100m halogen strip lights. The fixed lamp took the new bulb without problems. What is not clear from the illustrations is that the bulb does not have LEDS all round the circumference. The top quadrant has no LEDs. The output is therefore directional - can be directed to any direction you want. When used in a standard lamp I had to remove the glass heat shield from the halogen bulb. The bulb works perfectly with the dimmer control - no flicker. I think the lowest setting gives more light with this Bulb compared with the halogen.Ver pleased with this product. It has premium price but this is justified.

Needed 2, bought 1 to check fit and operation. Fitted perfectly and dims as required replacing 300W halogen just needed to remove the lamps heat shield top cover needed for the much hotter halogen bulb. This bulb has a larger diameter than the halogen, as described, so heat cover wont refit but this runs so much cooler it will not be needed. Just perfect so bought another for second identical lamp. Expensive but they work so I am happy. Both incidentally now running from new Amazon Echo plugs which were a dream to install and link to Echo 2 plus in seconds.

I wanted to replace two 200-watt, R7 halogen lights in each of our two uplighters, and could find no LED equivalent in our local stores.Delivery took place just a couple of days after the order was placed, and the bulbs were easily fitted. The glass guard previously covering the old halogen bulb – a safety measure because of the heat it generated – was no longer needed, and was recycled.Very pleased with the quality of the light produced, and it represents a 93% saving on the cost of using the uplighter. A good investment, I think.

I originally tried the older 1600 lumens version of this item in a dimmable uplighter, but found the light output to be on the low side. This version is well worth the extra few pounds to benefit from the 2000 lumens output. My uplighter had a dimpled aluminium reflector which I covered in shiny kitchen foil to help maximise the light output. If adding foil as I did, please take care when fitting that no excess foil can come into contact with electrical connections, and do not cover over any ventilation holes.

A good quality item. Dimming range with this bulb is quite small in my floor lamp. I have one of those plugs that measure energy use, and the range was only between 7w lowest and 10w maximum. But still a pleasing quality light not too warm or too cold a light, great for a living room. The only slight issue, is a very slight buzz or hum which disappears when used at full power, let me emphasise it is slight, and I think will not be heard with the TV on.

This bulb, whilst expensive, consumes less than 10% than its halogen predecessor. Fitted exactly right although I couldn't replace the glass shield due to the girth of the bulb - but on consideration I realised there was no need for the shield since there is no heat generated to be shielded from!. Let's hope it lasts for the 15000 hours it claims.

Not as bright as a 300w halogen bulb it replaced (in an IKEA uplighter) but the halogen lamp was too bright before and was always dimmed, so no problem. Dimmable but it does hum when dimmed and is a whiter light than halogen. No LEDs on the underside so most of the light goes upwards and very little down through the frosted glass shade.

The current bulbs got ridiculously hot - there are much cooler and the brightness seems about the same, which is a perfect solution. Bear in mind the width of this bulb which is much wider than the normal bulb, but as long as the fitting has the right space, then not an issue. Time will tell as to whether it lasts for the price paid.

Bought this as a replacement for another LED bulb which had started blinking. This fitting is not particularly cheap but it seems a higher quality than the previous cheap Chinese import. Very thoughtful that the lugs are offset so that it can be used in very shallow uplighters (the lugs protrude off centre).

Replaced a 500w conventional bulb which was actually a bit too bright. This is much better than expected though it seems to make the darkness sensor in the unit much more sensitive so I'm currently experimenting with it. I don't understand how it could have that effect so perhaps it's just coincidence.

This is the second one I have purchased for an uplighter. It doesn't work well with the dimmer in the light so is on full brightness all the time. They are expensive for what they are and probably any saving in energy use is negated by the high purchase price and the short lifespan of the lamp.

Fitted perfectly but, due to its size I could not re-fit the protective glass cover - which is not a problem. Instant light, and dimmable. Power saving is great 14w instead of 350w ... 25x saving! This has prevented me from binning two expensive mother and child floor lamps
