I love pepper as does my husband and years ago we bought a very pretty wooden pepper mill which we have used without problem - accepting that there is always a residue of ground pepper left over. A little messy, but an expected result outweighed by enjoying freshly ground pepper whenever required without too much fuss. I confess over the years it has really begun to niggle - this residue in the cupboard, on the table, on the counter - despite the nifty little plastic lid from something or other which was just a little bigger than the grider base. I saw the upside down mills for salt and pepper and they looked like a gimmicky novelty (lots of those in kitchen depts as you know!).However on a whim I decided to give the Oxo Good Grips pepper grinder a try - and am not sorry. It is an excellent product with all the virtues and no sins I have discovered after months of use. It is straightforward to fill (unscrew the top, there is no central spinal core and locking nut holding it all together!) easy-peasy. The grinder feels robust in use and grinds the peppers to just the degree you require - from really robustly coarse to the finest dusting - all tastes catered for by a simple lever/dial rotation. Thus as it passes round the table each individual taking pepper is free to choose how coarse/fine and how much they require, and it leaves not the slightest sign of its being there on the table afterwards, not one grain of ground pepper .. What more could you ask for - I cannot fault it and would recommend it to you.

If, like me, you've been suffering for your art with an old wooden mill - there is and answer and here it is.....There are a number of things I like about these which make them pretty much spot on for me...... in no particular order; They are good to grip... you hold onto the whole body of the thing and twist the grooved and grippy rubber end which provides a positive action; The shaft between the rubber handle and the actual grinder feels very solid - how it should be; the mechanism seems well engineered and crushes without any judder; the resistance between the handle and the body is none existent so all force used turning the unit is translated to the milling action; there is no interruptionof flow of salt/pepper to the grinder; the outlet is at the top of the mill so there's no mess; the quality is robust and well finished; refilling is a joy - there's a huge unscrewable opening at the bottom of the unit. The granulation size is simply adjustable and from fine (it is very fine) through to coarse (very coarse) in 5 easy stages - I thought that this was a little gimmicky but it isn't - you can add a lot of salt/pepper while cooking and seasoning - and a fine powder at the table. They work so well and are so well made that I'm actually getting to quite like the design - they look a lot better in the "flesh" than they do in pictures....

This review is for both the salt and pepper grinder as I purchased both together at thecsame time.Over the years Ive owned many different types and sizes of salt & pepper mills / grinders including rhe original Peugeot wooden french classic design. None of them were that great. In fact fir a few years I resorted to buying the disposable types from the suoer market until they changed tgecdesign so tgey coukd nit be refilled anymore. Thus is when I discovered these OXO Good Grips grinders. They are easy to fill and the adjuster makes a firm feel to its 'click' when selecting your preferred grind size. You can easily see the different sizes of ground pepper / salt coming out of it when selecting through the size settings.I have both mills set to one above the finest setting. When not in use they stand with the outlet end upper most (unlike the original classic wooden design mills) so they dont have any excess spillage going all over the place. The rubber twist handle has a nice feel to it. Also as the body of the grinders are transparent you can see when they need refilling. They are of a sturdy build quality and should hopefully last for many years provided they are looked after. Also they are very nice to look at too.An asset to any kitchen and I highly recommend these. Thanks for readingMilesfb.

Having previously used the 'traditional' wooden grinders (nice to look at, in a nostalgic, 70's trattoria sort of way, but the bottom rusts eventually and the grinding oomph diminishes, too - plus filling is so darned fiddly!), then moved on to the battery operated ones (huge battery casing, 4 x AA's required, etc, but miniscule pepper container and the ones I bought fell to pieces after about 9 months or so) - decided to buy this as I have the OXO Good Grips shears (excellent!) and the vegetable parer (haven't used yet, but looks very good quality) - not disappointed at all. (Mildly annoying, but after ordering this 'top flight' one, found the 'lesser mortal' in Morrisons for £8,but got that and kept it for cooking, this 'beast' is for the table!). Love the easy dial for graded grinding, an absolute breeze to fill and use (comes with peppercorns and has a huge capacity so you're not re-filling every 5 minutes), and the fact the 'outlet' is on the top means no mess. If you've the funds, get several for varying peppercorns (pink, green, etc) - otherwise stick to a pestle and mortar like I do! Hope it lasts, looks like it will, very robust and nice to handle. Thanks OXO, love your products! Recommended.

I bought this salt grinder after trying it at the house of a friend.I previously had a salt grinder from a company with a French name, one of the more traditional salt grinders a bit like the shape of a bowling pin. it ceased to function despite being well looked after and cleaned each time I topped up the salt. it was a salt grinder, not a pepper grinder. The pepper grinders from the same brand are still working.this OXO grinder is very chunky and feels expensive. Obviously it isn't cheap, but in this case you get what you pay for.The upside down design means that I no longer have a trail of salt next to my cooker where I keep the salt and pepper grinders. The grind size lever action is very easy to use and handy when I want to change between a fine grind for in cooking or coarse grind to sprinkle on top of a dish.In addition, the grinder is attractive to look at in my opinion, with a combination of glass and stainless steel and the black parts.

We've been through so many salt and pepper mills that I'd all but given up finding one that would last, particularly at an affordable price. In true OXO form, this salt grinder does exactly what it claims to do, and it does it admirably. No batteries to go flat and more importantly, a consistent grind, time after time,The coarseness of the grind is controlled by a very positive lever-type action and can be adjusted from quite fine (though not as fine as the table salt you'd buy in a packet) to coarse enough to leave a distinct crunch to your eating experience,Being an "upside-down" grinder also means that it doesn't leave a mess behind every time you pick it up (when standing on the table/in the cupboard, the business end is pointing upwards)At an affordable cost and with the speed of delivery that has become synonymous with Amazon. Highly recommended!

I don't know how many of those cheaper or more disposable salt and pepper grinders I've purchased over the years, but I always find them very uncomfortable to grind larger volumes (i.e., tablespoon or more). I purchased both the OXO salt and pepper grinders, not sure what the difference is between the two as they do look quite identical. The salt one has a white ring at the top, whereas the pepper one has a black ring. See photo. I haven't taken these apart to look at the mechanisms, but when I researched the difference between salt and pepper grinders it noted that salt corrodes certain metals, so the insides of salt and pepper grinders are generally made of different metals which also have different hardnesses to deal with the different hardness of the contents. So, probably better to buy the salt one for salt, and the pepper one for pepper.

One of those products that doesn't look that different from the usual run-of-the-mill (forgive the pun), but does differ in important details. First of all, you park it grind-side up, so it doesn't leave pepper all over your pantry shelf. Secondly, the action is accurate and easy on the wrist. Covering a side of salmon or turkey with pepper doesn't wreck your hand. Thirdly, the five grind options adjust easily (although it always takes a couple of turns to get the previous grind out of the mill) and accurately. It's easy to fill and at this stage - having used it for a month or so - seems well-made. I did wonder if paying this much for a pepper grinder made sense but having just thrown away a nice-looking,inexpensive and generally useless grinder after months of frustration, once again I find you get what you pay for.

I bought this and its brother salt grinder to replace some old and tired ones that were past their best. I'm so glad I chose these. Because the grinder's delivery end is at the top pepper and salt dust doesn't get all over the cupboard in which they live or on the table when in use. Both have a knurled graduated ring with which it is easy to change the fineness/coarseness of the ground condiment. They feel good in the hand and are very well made I own a number of OXO products all of which have proven to be an improvement on other types I've previously used.I recommend the Pepper (and Salt) grinders and suggest you always consider an OXO product, they're not the cheapest but never fail to please.Re-reading this I think I should point out I don't work for OXO the review is a bit gushy but satisfaction can cause that.

Excellent, I doubted the numerous very good reviews - shame on me... Having used them for a few days now I can easily say that these are very good to use, clean no spills use. They were bought in mind of elderly people using them and the good rubber grip ensures easy action to use. Time will only tell how robust and reliable they are, but others have given great reviews regarding lifespan so I won't doubt their experiences. We also bought the matching Salt and Pepper shakers - which are also very good to use.The items arrived well packaged and well within the time frame specified, these were however just too big to fit through our letter box, so you may need to collect them from the post office,if not in when delivered. I'd have no doubts in using this seller again.

Love this sturdy little pepper grinder. I like to use fresh peppercorns as they taste so much better when freshly ground. This does the job perfectly and you can adjust the fineness of the grind as well.Filling it up is a doddle as the top unscrews as in the picture, much easier than my last pepper mill, which involved me finding peppercorns on my kitchen floor for weeks! ??Con - The only con if any is that it doesn't grind the pepper into a fine dust which some people may like, it still has chunks which you can taste, "see picture", luckily I like that so its it's not a problem.I think OXO is a great brand that I would trust as I have bought a lot of their products in the past and still own. They are always really stylish, sturdy and chunky which I like.

This item was delivered very quickly, top marks to the seller.I have been using this grinder for several weeks now and like it a lot. I particularly like that it sits on a very stable base which makes it difficult to knock over, unlike the Kuhn Rikon grinders which were top heavy and broke easily. I find this much easier to dismantle in order to fill and clean it, there are no minute working parts or tiny springs that can be lost easily - definitely an advantage, It took a little time deciding whether I wanted my salt very finely ground or not, but by working through the numbers I soon found my preference. It is quite large and heavy, so probably not suitable for people with dexterity problems, otherwise I recommend it highly.

This is by far the best salt mill I have owned. I have had wooden ones, electric ones and acrylic ones, but so far this little device has out performed them all. I have had it for some months now and it is working well. I also bought the matching pepper mill which is just as good. They both have adjustable grinding size from dust up to grains of sand according to your preference. Easy to fill, and a good grip on the top, even when your hands are wet or if you have trouble gripping things. Sturdy and easy to wipe clean, with a clear, plastic viewing window to let you know when it needs refilling. You can stand it upside down so the salt doesn't make a mess in the cupboard.A well designed product from OXO.
