Windows® Phone 8's tile themed GUI falls in line with Office 2013 — If you like Office 2013 — you will love this. Important to me: agenda, contacts, & calendar; e-mail & browsing; viewing & editing Office documents; text & social; & a few essential apps.I'm surprised with the free apps; but the Microsoft PDF Reader is not good. A top quality camera/video/music player/gaming were not top of my needs list, but I can say the 8MP camera is a step up from my previous Carl Zeiss Nokia mobiles. In my Nokia Windows® Phone cull, I went for this model as the smoother, more rounded, & lighter of those in Nokia's 4G range — the Lumia 820/920. It's a nice size; very slim, but big enough for an easy grip in the palm of your hand. The bigger 4.3" screen size of the Lumia 820 compared with the 3.5" of the N8 is perfect for browsing Internet Explorer 10, & typo-free composition with the QWERTY keypad; the keys are comfortably spaced. Ample graphical/plain text symbols & emoticons for e-mail/text; even trademark, copyright, Webdings, and Wingdings. The keyboard includes a dedicated key for all domain suffixes; these extra suffixes, & other 'pop-up punctuation' marks can be pulled up by tap & hold. The keyboard text suggestions run across the top bar of the input keyboard. You can copy/paste whole text messages with one tap. The animations/transitions are fascinating to tap into — pan, zoom, flick, curl, & rotate — it has Windows® Aero stamped all over e.g. when you delete an opened e-mail, the page is dropped from the screen! Brilliant. The Lumia 820 does have a MicroSD™ card slot to expand storage where you can automatically have videos/music/photos saved. I was Symbian sick at first. Windows® Phone 8 is new to me, so understandably my brain was frazzled …a little personalization to make me feel at home — I figured out how to accent the Live Tiles theme with a favourite colour — luminous pink. Pinning/unpinning tiles to Start menu & resizing them is fun! All e-mail inboxes, groups of text messages, contacts, & social network accounts on the phone can be linked or filtered. The Me Card & People Hub are highly interactive. Personal status updates, check in, chat, & notifications are found within the Me Card; newsfeed, photos, & personal details of your contacts are linked up in the People Hub. Here, people can also be invited into a room for private sharing & group chats; & divided into groups of best friends/family for group texting & further personalizing of social updates. The lock screen can be personalized with a single photo or shuffle through an album — from your phone or internet. Press Power and Start together, and you can do a screenshot capture.A Windows® Live account is required to set up e-mail, contacts, calendar, & SkyDrive™ to synchronize. Nokia Suite is replaced with your Microsoft® account. Synchronization is automatic & fast with WiFi (I don't know about 4G yet). Windows® Live mail can be upgraded to Outlook.com. Minor gripes: Custom ringing tones can be added but no option to customize alert tones in Windows® Phone 8; the alarm clock only works with the phone on standby; and the clip-on case is tricky to get off.If you're looking for a way to explore your old Nokia's Symbian backup file, ABC Amber .nbu converter freeware is my recommended solution (I wanted my saved messages, and mobile-to-mobile Bluetooth® SMS/MMS transfer didn't work for me). NB: nbu files cannot be restored to a Windows® Phone.Read full review...

I bought this phone having tried an HTC wildfire phone as my previous phone. It looked smart and sleek and i was looking forward to trying a Windows 8 phone.I am still coming to terms with how amazingly fast this phone is. The processor is immense, meaning internet use, video downloads and generally any media playback is impeccable and through wifi as well the phone enables you to have everything at your fingertips. The phone comes with only a few basic apps along with some jazzier ones for photo editing and office. The sat nav is brilliant and with offline maps you cannot lose signal and get lost. There are some basic apps missing like weather and stopwatch/timer which i use but found i could download them within minutes and can edit the homescreen to have whatever i want on,including bookmarks and contacts, meaning use of the phone is slick and easy. The battery life is fairly good, if you use it constantly like i do for games and videos then it will only last the day but is quick to recharge in about an hour so can be topped up whenever needed. The only drawback is that the volume is not independent to its use - most phones have a ringtone volume, msg tone volume, media volume etc. This unfortunately shares the same volume and although it is easy with the button on the side, it can become annoying. For instance, i recently listening to music quietly before bed and forgot to turn the volume back up before going to sleep, meaning my alarm was too quiet to wake me up... However, it is a minor glitch that with some foresight can be worked around. All in all a very good phone which is fantastic value for money.Read full review...

This was always an underrated phone, never a 'flagship' and never high fashion . . . however, it is a classic Nokia and solid enough to fight muggers off with! If you don't need all the 'kiddieapps' and you want serious stuff like Office and the ability, at a pinch, to connect it up to bluetooth peripherals and an OTG setup to use as a basic word processor and spreadsheet filler then this can do it. Windows Mobile 8.1 is fast and slick enough and the amoled screen is good at all light levels. Also, it is one of the best phones to use with gloves. As for battery life I find it is average but as the batteries are swappable I carry a charged spare. the cameras front and back are better than average even years after it was first launched.I am now on my third as a 'main work phone' and have another cloned ready to take over in case of disaster and used model prices are low enough for me never to worry about it.Read full review...

Everything I need in one device, Silky smooth OS, Excellent offline navigation, Only the odd little niggle which usually resolves itself after a restart, Just the odd occasion the email refuses to sync but like said resolves upon restart.Well built Nokia device, Performs like the 920, Shares most the same components. The camera's decent, The battery last a good few days if not in constant use, Then it'll only last several hours. That's a gripe with most smartphones, I don't expect them to last long, Just long enough until I can charge it again. Some people moan about a lack of apps, Get real peeps, Do you really need several apps that are merely hyperlinks or of the same thing? The apps are coming,Steadily, Shame no SkyGo or iPlayer but do you really want to sit and watch Eastenders on a 4.3" screen?Don't be a sheep, Be different, Buy a Nokia Lumia or a Windows Phone.Read full review...

Fantastic product. Not only does it have a great look and feel, and do all the usual phone/text/email stuff, it has some terrific apps from Nokia. I love the Nokia Music, sat nav, transport finder and photo apps. The music app provides "radio" mixes, which provide loads of great music for free, and you can create your own and save them off-line on the phone. The range of other apps is fine, including banking, social networking, Kindle, Skype, etc... Although it doesn't have iPlayer, Catchup TV works really well. I'm really impressed with this smartphone; it does all the things you want, looks different to the IOS/Android devices and is much better value for money. Highly recommended.

Great first phone for finally evolving into the modern world from the stone ages. Battery longevity seems to depend on how you actually use the phone. Using wifi for some reason seems to drain the battery even when you've stopped using it.If you're just using it basically as a phone, ie, calls & texts then the battery lasts very well. Internet usage also seems to drain it quite rapidly. It has quite a sturdy feel like it wouldn't come to much harm if dropped.Takes a great picture too, which is one reason I finally upgraded for.Overall I think this phone was a good buy, good value & would recommend for anyone who doesn't need to have the latest state of the art phones.

Obviously Windows but if you can get over that this is an excellent phone with a decent camera and is plenty fast enough for everyday use. I have the same phone and bought this secondhand one for my wife as a stopgap. She's happy with it so will probably stay with it. Has magnetometer so can act as compass. Only disappointment was the description as 'excellent' condition, I would describe it as good or very good, not excellent as it has minor marks on it, same as my 2 year old one. I havn't dropped a star for this as the price was still good value.

I like the Windowsphone software so the choice was which Windowsphone. Nokia is a good choice because it is totally committed to Windowsphone. You get a great camera on the phone with a range of exclusive apps like Nokia City Lens and Nokia Music. The latter provides a free music stream by genre.Nokia build quality is always excellent. So if you want a good smartphone at a good price you cant get much better.

Bought this for my wife to replace an old blackberry. Seems she prefers the simplicity of operation and accessible features on tap. She is enjoying the iPhone features and applications which are easier to navigate than her old phone. So far she thinks it's a great buy. The only drawback is that the battery runs critically low everyday....having to put it on charge before day ends. Otherwise loving it.

the phones has a very clear screen with vivid colours, windows tiles are good, the sounds great, picture quality is great, speedy internet, kid's corner is fantastic, big wide screen, good internet browsing experience - proper smartphone.Have to get used to a bit more weight and width than my old phone, which i will quickly cos the phone's great

I love this phone as it is a replacement for my previous phone which was the same model. Very pleased with it. Only thing which lets it down is that you can't have whatsapp on there any more which is disappointing. The phone is easy to use - fast - good battery life - excellent.

so easy to use, could do with some more apps in the store but hopefully with time they will come.battery life no worse than any other smart phone i have had but then you must expect that what with everything you do on these phones.would definately recommend to anyone

The Nokia Lumia really surprised me. After using iPhone for several years I must admit the new Windows 8 phone is really good. For more serious use Nokia definately beats the iPhone. For me this was a long shot, that turned out to be a good one.

Got it for the wife, the odd glitch to sort out like having to install English keyboard! It came with a foreign key board! Also, can't upgrade to Windows 10 but my wife's very pleased with her new mobile. Well it looks new!
