Before Xr700 I had a couple of other routers: Asus ac-88u, Netgear r7000 and Asus rt-n66u.Currently I have the following devices connected to my router: 1 wired PC, 1 wireless Surface Pro, 2 Amazon Echo devices, iPhone XR and two Galaxy S phones, Tp-link smart plug, wired PS4 pro, wireless PS vita, wireless Netatmo weather station, Wired Synology NAS server and wired Android Sony 4k Smart TV. Attached is the screenshot of my network tree with the list of all devices we use.My past reasons for upgrading routers were performance related (Wi-Fi range, speed, number of LAN ports) but I had no real reason to replace AC-88u. Asus ticked all the boxes and I was happy with how it handled our network load.I did not think there is anything out there that could further improve my experience. Then I came across Xr700 and immediately became curious if a top spec router of 2018/2019 can outperform what was a top spec router of 2015… Has Netgear come up with a router that could improve my network in any way?Knowing I can count on Amazon and return the product if it does not meet my expectations – I decided to take the plunge.AC-88U had it all – 8 LAN ports, powerful CPU to handle heavy network traffic, good wireless range, great network speeds. It was very stable in my experience, could have been working without restarts for months without any performance drops. It handled our network traffic well, it allowed my household to consume multimedia on various devices with ease and yet I write all this in past tense, because… I don’t have AC-88U anymore… I decided to keep XR700 because after a day of use it became apparent, that for me it does everything better than Asus did. Let me explain…After using the new Netgear a couple of things immediately became apparent to me:1) QOS - Adaptive QOS was working well on AC-88U and I had good pings in my games. Things where getting worse once there was a movie streamed from my NAS to a tv, on top with some file copying and a video skype call. In this scenario my pings in BF4 would experience a noticeable hit and I could forget about smooth network game play.Well, QOS on Xr700 is in a different league. Ever since I got this router I do not care what is currently happening on the network. Network traffic has become transparent to me and I am no longer concerned with what people are streaming or doing on the network. QOS on XR700 prioritizes all the packets smartly and I have only experienced smooth gameplay and top notch VOIP experience. At the same time I can be backing up my photos/videos to NAS, stream 4k movie to 4k TV, play BF4 on PC and talk on skype – without any problems. This is the first router that has allowed me to do this.2) LAN to WI-FI transfers – Often times I backup large videos and files from NAS to my phone. On Ac-88U the fastest average transfer I could get from Synology DS918+ to iPhone Xr was around 40 MB/s. With Xr700 my average speeds have increased to around 60-70 MB/s! For me this is a significant and important upgrade! All this using 5Ghz AC network.3) WI-FI stability/performance – The best example for this is the way this router handles Remote play on my PS Vita from the PS4 PRO. On Ac-88U, I would often experience network issues in the form of Remote Play disconnections or deterioration of the streaming quality. It might have been due to heavy network traffic or disruption by other wireless devices – I don’t know. I do know, that Netgear placed in the very same spot, using the same 2.4/5 Ghz network channels , performs flawlessly and I have not experienced any connection drops like I did with the Asus.4) Operating system. The system has a nice UI and looks very pleasing. It has all the options you need and offers powerful QOS and network options. Everything is hidden behind logical menus and does not feel overwhelming. Some example screenshots are attached.Network transfer speeds and PS Remote Play stability alone were enough for me to upgrade to this router. XR700 is on the expensive side but if you can afford it - I wholeheartedly recommend it.

So this is the top echelon of routers. I have owned many different routers over the past 20 years from Cisco, Motorola, TP link, Asus, Microsoft and Apple. I buy tech like a woman buys shoes or hand bags. I have not only put the items through tests but also used them for several weeks before solidifying my opinion. Every piece of tech has its great edge or claim to fame. This router delivers on every aspect, responsiveness, volume and ease of use. NETGEAR knows networking and they have demonstrated that with this robust router. It is not the easiest price tag to afford but I can truly say I have no regrets about the purchase as you get what you pay for with technology.Bringing me back full circle to the subject of my review "In for a penny, In for a pound" if you are looking at high performance routers, do yourself a favor and put your hard earned money to good use.

Just ordered this router having being an early adopter of the original R1, I have read a few reviews which did make me a bit wary but tbh this router is fantastic. Im 50 years old and not as tech savvy as many out there but it literally took me 25 minutes to set it up from unpacking it and removing my old router. A further 10 minutes and my PS4 had the ports forwarded and buffer bloat settings (qos) and geo filter were all set and a quick trip to DSL reports gave me A+ across the board.Yes it is quite a chunk of money to outlay for a router but it has been the easiest router to set up I have ever bought and over the years I have bought a few.If you have the dosh or a Christmas present optionI would recommend this router hands down.

Best used on Virgin Broadband.If you don't want two routers running in your house your best using this device with virgin broadband. As virgin allow you to run there router as a modem only so you can then buy your own router.Bt use to do there modem seperate so you could use your own router but I don't think they do that now. Most isp like sky etc don't allow you to use your own router.. You can go down the route of extraction of username and password from your isp box and in the past people use to stick them on to an open reach modem.. But it's such a hassle and doesn't always work.So I believe you would get your money worth out of this router if you were on virgin unless you know another ispthat gives you the modem separately.

This router works great for gaming, I use PS4 and Xbox and was always frustrated playing online games like call of duty , dieing every 10 seconds , shooting other players who then turn around and finish me off.Not anymore. Instead of connecting to servers thousands of miles away I can now control the distance my PS4 searches for games . I have no lag and I manage to get 70 or 80 kills in some matches.The router automatically opens the relevant ports giving me a open NAT . It also supports Plex media server . The software is so easy to use and makes the settings easy to understand and not over complicatedI'm glad I purchased it, it just works

I have had many wireless routers, this one is hands down the best I have had. Easy to setup, and keeping track of the network is a breeze. This router is the only one that has covered the whole house, and performs like no other. My network performs better than with 3 other expensive routers consistently with speeds we have not enjoyed before. We can finally stream on any device without buffering. Living in a rural area, i do not have the luxury of fast ISPs. This router gives me the performance I have not enjoyed for 12 years of trying. I strongly recommend this device.

Received this a gift from my wife and so far i am amazed at the difference in quality, speed and features setup of this router compared to our old Router. This routers performance and vast networking options are so useful when playing online.The range is significantly improved over the previous unit we used and the Duma OS software offers unrivaled network customization options with an appealing and easy to use interface. If you are an online gamer, this router is is fantastic for getting every ounce of speed possible . I would definitely buy this again.

This is a gaming router that truly deserves the name. One of my favorite features is the qos. You can set aside part of your internet speed for gaming. There is a Geo location feature that let's you pick the maximum distance to a gaming server. This has helped to reduce lag in games. All of the basic festues are here, such as USB ports for hard drives. My favorite features is the ability to block ports. This has helped me to imrpove the security on my network. I would recommend the router even at the high price charged.

First off this router is designed for a gaming household. It can handle as many devices you throw at without any lag. I had the Asus equivalent and this one is far superior. The DumaOS is easy to use if you have an understanding of networking. I’m a beginner and could easily setup the traffic prioritization and other features. If you are into high customization of a home/gaming network, this is it. However, the cost is high but you do get a lot of features and raw processing power for several bandwidth hungry devices.

This is by far the best router I have ever owned. Connection is great and the options for customization in the user interface is endless. I have no less than 5 separate devices running g at any one time and have yet to even sense a delay. The signal strength is great throughout my entire home. I have only had this for a couple weeks at this point and still have lots of stuff to mess with in the settings. Will probably return to edit this later once I have had a chance to really mess with it.

My boyfriend and I bought this router as part of a gigabit internet upgrade (as well as the Nighthawk modem) so far we love it! Our old router would let one device (usually my pc) hog all the bandwidth on our network and all other devices were running at really slow speeds. With this router you can set it to split it up evenly between devices! Latency is low and really enjoying the 60ghz band it's fast and really good if you don't want your living room cluttered with ethernet cables.

This router is a step up from the Nighthawk AC2350 R4 X7500 which I’ve been using since 2014. I have 1gb internet, and it concurent multiple video stream and online games much better than my old router. Even without contention,gamining(Modern Warefare, Madden is better—less lag). However, on my initial install, it would not allow more than about 10 devices to connect at the same time.(10.0.1.20). I downgraded to v 10.0.1.2, and everything works fine.

I've only had the XR700 in use for about a week and it seems to be working well. I will say that the wifi is not as far as they mentioned, seems to be less than my last one. But wifi connection and router performance is good.I feel like my gaming experience and connection is also good. I'll give another review once the placebo time expires, but I feel like it will still work and perform well.

Couldn't be happier! Kept buying extra crap to make our system faster, and decided to go with a gaming router because we figured that if this could keep the gamers happy, then it would be fast enough for us. Boy, were we right! This thing screams, even when every single online item that we run, is running! Couldn't be happier! Glad to spend the money for speed.

We purchased this router because of reviews. We stream several devices in our home. We stream on 8 TV's, have 5 iPhones, 3 iPads, 3 Desktops, and 5 Laptops that all use wireless. We also have Xboxone and xbox that are wired. We have always used Netgear but this XR700 is amazing. I would recommend this to anyone that has more than a few devices to add.
