Before buying this product, I researched it in great depth compared to its competitors. I decided to go with the Orbi for 2 main reasons- a dedicated 5ghz back channel meant that compared to its competitors, signals between the router and satellite were much stronger between walls. My speed by Ethernet connected directly to the router is 92.3mbps down, my speed connected directly by Ethernet to the satellite is 92.3mbps down, my speed connected by wifi to the satellite is 92.1mbps down standing right next to it and 90.9 at the furthest point in my house from the satellite. This was important to me because my modem line connection is in one corner at the far end of the house. So I could put the satellite in the middle of the house in the living room and everyone connects securely. The second main reason that this was perfect for my situation is the fact that unlike their competitors, there are many Ethernet ports available on both the router and satellite. So my ps4 and Apple TV are both connected via Ethernet to the satellite, which in conjunction with the dedicated backhaul meant that I didn’t have to spend extra money on installing Ethernet ports all over the house. The nest wifi had no dedicated backhaul and no Ethernet ports. If you look at YouTube reviewers videos of different mesh systems you’ll see that connected to the main router, the nest does an outstanding job with speeds, but connected to the satellite, 120mbps downloads dropped to less than 20. (I mention the nest because it’s the most popular mesh system and one of the ones I was seriously considering at purchase time). The setup and app were ridiculously simple. Setup took less than 5 minutes before I was online, most of which was waiting for modem to restart. The app is intuitive and user friendly. For the first time ever, I can stream multiple 4K videos at once while gaming online at the same time and the system doesn’t stutter at doing so. When I upgrade the system in a few years, whatever models succeed this one will be my first consideration.

I bought the Orbi RBK50. It is well made and aesthetically pleasing in any home environment. It is different to other Mesh WiFi systems at this price point as it has multiple Ethernet ports on both the router and satellite which is a real plus for me when you have a NAS, powerline, PC etc to connect up. There is a also USB port which can be used to hook up a networked printer using Netgear’s Readyshare driver software, if you’ve run out of Ethernet ports. Installation and setup is a breeze using either the Orbi app or web interface and can be done in 10-15 minutes. I personally preferred to use the web interface as it has more features to configure as per a standard dual band router but the app is good for the basic setup.Check out the numerous YouTube videos for either installation method. In terms of operation, I have a 200Mbps broadband connection and I can confirm that within 20 feet of either the router or satellite, a device will connect at around the 200Mbps speed. I noticed that I could also get a speed of 50Mbps out in the garden around 100ft away from my satellite travelling through one brick wall. The speed and stability of the WiFi signal is maintained by the dedicated 5GHz band between the router and satellite (the backhaul), leaving the 2.4GHz and other 5GHz bands to serve the client devices. This is a key feature and a must for any mesh system. The system is also scalable, so additional satellites can be added to cover large properties. I have had the router for a few weeks and have not had to touch it once set up. In summary, to anyone who values a fast, stable WiFi service throughout their home, then this is the mesh system to buy.Read full review...

After first setting up it seemed to work great then after a few days I started to experience problems with my Sony TV (2019 Model). At first the TV connected to satellite on 5Ghz channel, but after a few days it was on 2.4Ghz channel and then after few more days it was on 5Ghz channel on Router which is further away. Then it started disconnecting and would not connect back (TV Says SSID is disabled), I would connect back and it wold only stay connected for 10-15 mins before disconnecting again After forgetting the network on the TV and adding again it connected back at 5Ghz on the Satellite but after few days it went through same cycle as before and eventually would only stay connected for10-15 mins at a time.Eventually I moved the satellite closer and it now seems more stable with the TV staying on the 5Ghz channel from satellite. My guess is that there is some issue with the TV trying to connect back to the satellite once it connected to router and it ended up disconnecting instead. Other devices on the network don't have any issues.Apart from that its definitely improved the speed of my Wi-Fi over my AT&T U-Verse Router.

RecommendedFinally a stable decent solution to a tricky layout houseOur house is principally 3 floors, but there are some 1/2 floors also for bathrooms and so you could argue there are 5 floorsMy setup, I have kept my main router ,an Asus which I have configured in a certain way (various things aren't configurable yet until they do a firmware update with the Orbi router, e.g. no dnsomatic, and it doesn't have a vdsl included so you will still need your fibre modem to connect to the orbi router), and setup the Orbi router / satellites as purely the wifi part, after disabling the wifi on the asus.Easy setup, very high broadband rates throughout the house. Not many downsides, only to improved when the firmware gets more advanced for people that will expect more than a basic router.Aside from that the main reason you are buying this is for the Wifi range... which is does superbly. Will be recommending to my neighbours, after I've sold all my powerline adaptors and powerline wifi access points.Read full review...

I found the Orbi Mesh system easy to set up (even with Alexa steering me wrong on which app I needed) and use. Being able to scan in the router information with my phone was a nice plus, and after setting up the router and my Orbi account, plugging the router into my modem and power outlet, and plugging in the satellite unit, all the wi-fi dead zones in my old house disappeared. When setting up Alexa, the Alexa app said I needed to download the Nighthawk app for setup, but this was incorrect; the Orbi Netgear app was needed. This app crashed about halfway through the setup and I was had to delete and reload it to get it to work, but after that, Alexa worked perfectly (in fact, noticeably better than on the first-gen Echo and Echo Spot in nearby rooms). The speaker's sound quality is surprisingly good for a small, stand-alone speaker. I would recommend this system to anyone looking for an easy to set up, reliable mesh wi-fi router, and all the more so if you'd like to incorporate Alexa.

As my home network expanded over time my current router could no longer handle the speed or distance required to keep it all running smooth. My network consists of 4 WiFi cameras, 1 thermostat, two fans, WiFi speaker, network receiver, two I-phones, two roku smart TVs, laptop, 2 desktop PCs, and a smart ac switch. The Orbi rb50 system handles it all with no issues. I was able to switch over to this new router in about 1 hour for 80% of the devices, only a few components required some additional configuration. The iPhone Orbi app is very simple and will get you up and running in no time, but when you need more advanced options such as port forwarding then use the Orbi web interface which has all the settings required. The best feature is that I no longer have any dead spots in the house or immediate yard. The router includes a satellite which resides on the second floor which increases the coverage significantly. Very impressed overall with the Orbi's design and functionality.

Getting a full 130Mbits+ through my cable modem using the RBK50 mesh system. For years I lived with an aging Apple wi-fi router and extender where I could get at max 50mb through the cable modem. Always thought the problem was with my cable provider overstating their bandwidth. But the bandwidth problem disappeared with this new mesh network. Also, my entire network got easier to manage. I didn't have to hardwire devices to the router to get better bandwidth. I now have 20 devices that our connected to the Mesh getting excellent bandwidth, even with multiple systems communicating at the same time. And the simple app let's you know which devices are connected, the Orbi router/satellite they connect to),at which spectrum (2mhz or 5mhz)they connect at, and the device name and mac number. I've recommended this system to all my friends you may be living on a router network over 5 years old or who thought they had to hardware into an ethernet switch to get max bandwidth.

I have tried several WiFi 'extender' devices over the years. Even ones provided by Cable companies themselves. Nothing came even close to the Orbi AC3000. It's amazing!!! Takes 2 minutes to hook up and literally I now have a WiFi connection in a dead spot where I couldn't get any signal, to now downloading speeds of around 460mb/s!! Even the satellites which I only needed one which came with the main system are just plug and play. Plug it into your wall outlet and that's it. You now have internet access just as strong as if guy were standing in front of your main router. Another bonus is each satellite also has 4 gigabit Ethernet connections on each one in case you want wired connections in some rooms of your house, perfect to hook the kids video games Systems too so not everything is wireless. I can't recommend this product anymore then just tell everyone they have to get it. I already have a friend and a family member trying them out. Do yourself a favor, get this product.

U shaped house with an atrium in the center, historically bad signal from one end to the other. Add to that strong signal from neighboring houses (go figure). Bought the Orbi 3 pack, followed instructions (so simple) strong fast WiFi through out the house. Observations: old speed test wirelessly some where around 50Mbs close to gateway router. Speed test with Orbi installed around 300Mbs!The Orbi app for iOS seems a little buggy. Got in this loop of trying to register with email and password and later would not authenticate. Lastly, my wireless Ring devices have got a very strong signal. But in a r cent trouble call they suggested because of the single SSID across Orbi router and satellites the Ring devices might be confused bouncing from one satellite to the other causing delay issues. So maybe there is one ask from NETGEAR will we have the ability to create a unique SSID For each Orbi router and satellite? Might be a technical reason that I don't understand perhaps.

Frustrated by my ISP's all-in-one router/modem performance, The plaster walls in my 2200 square-foot home seemed to eat WiFi signal the further on wandered from the router. The signal in my sons' playroom at the other end of the house was virtually non-existent, and there wasn't even enough signal to run an Amazon Echo device without constantly having to reset it. Enter the Orbi AC 3000...Setup was relatively simple, and would have been even more so had I contacted my ISP's tech support before starting (combo router / modem resisted the initial self-setup). The consistent and powerful signal (not one drop in over a month) is omnipresent within my house, and I even get full signal in my tool shed /man cave forty feet across the back yard...Had I known it would be this effective, I would have pulled the trigger on this a year ago. Random negative, reviews had me worried, and I wasn't sure how it would work with my older plaster walls.Bottom line: This is the solution.

I'm an IT engineer and I deal with WiFi and general network performance ALL THE TIME. I've setup and managed hundreds of WiFi products for enterprise and residential situations. The Orbi product line is the best WiFi experience for almost any setting. At my current home I've used Ubiquiti, Linksys, Cisco, Ruckus, TP-Link, and even other Netgear products (in standard & mesh formats). This pair of Orbi SB50s is the best setup hands down. Blanket coverage, range, clean device connection performance, smooth connection experience, and advanced features. Period. I'm such a nerd that my favorite feature might even be the wired connection capability for backhaul. Most mesh WiFi systems will only backhaul using there wireless radios on a different band. My house has some network cabling run to other areas so I can connect the two devices hard-wired. Every network technicians dream! You will be doing yourself a huge favor with the Orbi solution. Good job Netgear. Highly recommend.

I am extremely happy with the ORBI mesh network extender. It saturates my home with WiFi and gives us uninterrupted access for our devices in every corner of the house and well out into the yard. It provides a single network SSID to connect to wherever you are in the house unlike previous solutions that I have put in place. The ORBI helps immensely with connecting to peripheral devises such as WiFi printers and Smart TVs. It also helps to work with other tech devices such as coding my Raspberry Pi projects because it extends one network throughout the house. This provides solid coverage for connecting to these devices remotely through SSH for example. It was a bit of an investment but has been well worth the money. We can even set up guest network access to turn on or off when we need it. It is easy to monitor and control through the mobile phone app as well. We are very happy with the performance of the ORBI network extender and recommend it without reservation.

I was looking for a WiFi Mesh system that would provide the best performance regardless of price. I looked at review from multiple tech and gadget sites and the NETGEAR Orbi AC3000 was always at the top of every site. At first, I thought it was either corporate favoratism or paid reviews, but after using it for a month, I can definitely say that every 5-star review was accurate. You get great performance regardless of where you are at within its field, you have zero dead zones and the user interface is amazingly simple yet helps you keep your network secure without any confusing prompts or settings. Setting up the hardware seems intimidating when you unbox everything, but the setup was a simple as turning on the satellites and clicking on 'Add Satelite' in the Orbi app. When positioning the satelites, there's no guesswork involved. Each Orbi satelite will flash red if it's in a spot that will not provide coverage. I had everything up and running in less than 10 minutes.

We just moved into a house that was laid out a little broader than our old place and the router had to be installed in one corner of the home on the first floor. Due to the construction of this house, our wifi range was limited and we had very little signal from the rented router our internet provider gave us.I took the plunge and bought this mesh router system and my own cable modem and it has worked out perfectly. The setup was very simple with the app and the signal lights make positioning the satellite unit child's play. My girlfriend was concerned about the amount of light that the satellite was giving off,but it only lights up during setup and doesn't cause any light pollution in our room (the most effective spot for the satellite ended up being the master bedroom). Now I have very strong wifi speeds at close to the max that my cable modem can deliver all over the house. Like in most cases: you get what you pay for and this system is worth every penny.

I had been frustrated for some time with my current WiFi setup. I prefer to keep some of my computer equipment connected via wire which dictated the placement of the WiFi router at one end of my two-level house. As a result, I had poor connectivity at the other end including my patio area. After doing some research I decided to go with a "mesh" type network and the Orbi system was consistently getting the best reviews so I took the plunge. The new equipment has been set up now for the past couple of weeks and it is working great. I no longer have any connectivity issues on the patio (or anywhere else!). Overall throughput has increased as well. Once I discovered the "Advanced" settings via a direct connection to the master device,I was able to set up port forwarding and DDNS services without any problem. The phone/tablet app doesn't meet my needs but the browser interface works well.Overall, I'm very pleased with my new Netgear Orbi system and highly recommend it!
