The ultimate purpose of this Wi-Fi Travel Router would seem to be to provide access to the internet when outside of your home and it was the concept which starting me thinking as to whether the concept itself is flawed. For example, some of the scenarios in which this Wi-Fi Travel Router can provide access to the internet are to connect to a public hotspot, or to a wired internet connection however, if the Travel Router can be connected to these internet connections, why wouldn't you connect your device to them directly? However, I quickly realised that there may be scenarios when it could be invaluable.Consider the following situation. You are in a location where there is a good public hotspot and you want to connect your device to the internet. However, your device doesn't have a Wi-Fi connection (albeit this is probably quite rare these days). This Travel Router can be used to connect to the public hotspot and then connected to your device by way of a cable. You are now connected to the internet. Now consider an alternative scenario. You are in a location where there is only a wired internet connection but want to access the internet on multiple devices at once. This Travel Router can be used to create your own personal hotspot, to which each of your devices are connected. Again, you are connected to the internet. It can also be used as a range extender, either in your home or in another location. For example, say you are in a hotel room which has a Wi-Fi connection, but it doesn't extend to the balcony. This Travel Router can be used to connect to the Wi-Fi network in the hotel room and then re-broadcast the Wi-Fi signal, where it could then be used on the balcony.Setting up the Travel Router is incredibly easy. Either connect the power cable to your device or a mains electricity socket and then connect it to your device, either by way of a wireless or a wired connection. The only other step to complete is then to navigate to website given in the instructions (Amazon won't allow me to post it here) and chose which public hotspot or other internet connection you wish to connect to and you should be able to get online.Whilst this is designed as a Travel Router, I have a desktop computer at home without a wireless network card and so when I'm not travelling, I will use it as a means of getting that computer online!

And I still am given my previous less than satisfactory experience with TP-Link products especially when it comes to their Wireless Access Points and Repeaters - Not because they make bad products, But their firmware was excruciatingly buggy. While I only managed to get my unit set up last night after work, It has been very easy to set up and configure and I literally had it going out of the box within 10 mins after a cup of tea or two. When booting up it takes a minute or two for the router to detect any 3G or 4G dongle and connect to the internet but thats a very minor issue compared to the bugs ive experienced on their products. Obviously the 'loading time'of the dongle could be sped up a little but so long as it works properly then I will be happy.I'm currently running this with a Huawei E367 testing out an EE data sim which was purchased at the same time. Since the dongle only supports 3G so theres no hitting anything above 10-20mbps. Speedtest reports between 5-6mbps but that's in the dead of night. The E367 is capable of hitting 21mbps but it has never gotten close which means its either the router that's capping the speeds, The ISP or just a bad dongle.I have seen LTE dongles going cheap on ebay and im tempted to purchase one for fun and have a play around. Ive heard that these routers use the PPP Protocol which creates massive overheads and stops the internet from running at its full speed. It seems ok so far, No problems to report but I wont keep my head held to high because shoddy firmware could easily strike again. After Im done with EE I will most likely move back over to 10GB a month from 3. Reason why i hesitate going back to Three is they throttle their connection HARD. I was with them for almost two years. net performance was good at first but the speed just totally dropped and it got to a point where Id be around 256k or 1/2 meg speeds.I'll see how this plays out over all - bad firmware could still kill the device for me.TP Link need to update their firmware a little more, Their last update was back in 2012, Im using an EE simcard but yet the dongle connects to T-mobile and there are no options of adding your own Access point to their profiles.Gonna give this a few weeks and report back when i have the other dongle in

First off, you can simply connect a UBS modem in to the USB port to turn it in to a wireless access point on the go. USB modems and the little 3G/4G modems you can pick up at mobile phone shops that stick in the side of a laptop (via USB port) to give you internet via a mobile phone signal. You pay for the data like a phone contractShould have mentioned on the side of the travel router there’s a little switch with 3 options:- Share ETH- Share Hotspot- AP/RngExt/ClientShared Hotspot - is for connecting directly to a modem like I mentioned above. The router then becomes the sole connection to the modem and all your devices connect to the wireless router.Share ETH - is for public use like in a hotel. If you have wired internet port in your room you can connect the cable to this travel router which will then give you a private wireless connection in your room for your devices to share. No one on the hotel network can view your files.AP/RngExt/Client - works the same as the previous Share ETH only this does open the connection to all devices on the entire hotel network, so ideally this option should only be used at home or work where you can trust what’s on your network. At home you could simply connect to a wired port to extend your wireless network. You can also use the Full size USB port to connect an external hard drive to share files/music/movies etc. between you r wirelessly connected devices. The wireless router is battery powered and has around 8hrs battery life which can be charged using a Micro-USB charger which is included. Another cool feature is If the travel router is charged you can use it to charge up your phone on the go via the USB port.I really like this little travel gadget. It’s a great size and can fit in your pocket. It has lots of really useful features and functions you can use at home/work or when you are travelling.Very useful in hotels when they only give you a single wired connection and you need to share the connection between multiple devices.Five stars, recommended.

I went to stay in Malta with a friend for a couple of weeks. The apartment block she lived in was new, and had not been cabled, so her internet was by 3G Dongle. I bought this (they have the same plugs and voltage in Malta as UK) and crossed my fingers that it was compatible, as she couldn't tell me anything about model numbers for the dongle. On connecting it up and switching on, there was no internet. After logging into the unit and going through the menus I found that there was no built-in settings for any Maltese providers, but after a while I was able to find the settings on the internet and enter them manually. Once I did that, it worked perfectly. If I couldn't log my phone, tablet and netbook into wireless internet, I'd have been a very unhappy man!! Her other friends are well chuffed because they can now log their phones in when they visit, and the deal she's on (10Gb/month) means that she's not going to hit her data limit.Because it also has 4 wired ethernet outputs, I was able to hard-wire it into her PC, making that a more reliable connection, too. This item can also take an ethernet input (for example from a single wired-only output ADSL or cable modem) which would probably enable to get the cheapest possible internet deal when her building is cabled up.Quite simply, this product does what it says it will, at a low price and that's all you can ask. Another friend over there wanted to see about a similar setup, and from the straightforward dongle at 10 euros/month for 10Gb, it went to 25 euros if they provided this sort of wireless equipment, which, for me, shows what a simple, cost-effective upgrade this is.£32 was a small price to pay for free accommodation for a fortnight, and it will continue to do service at her flat, at least until it gets cabled up.

Just moved to a new house and arrange for BT to connect up my broadband the day we moved in but with the engineer just not pitching up and no-one contacting us we've been left without broadband for, as it transpires after many lengthy phone calls resulting in suspension of disbelief as to how inefficient and ludicrous a company can be, over a month and a half from the original what was meant to be straight-forward engineer visit - i.e. one requiring only a trolley full of Cif and J-cloths, rather than a chainsaw and a lawyer. This little box, in combination with a little Three dongle (with them providing magnificent 3G broadband signal in our area with 02 only managing 1 pip on rectumnet, gives us back proper Internet with the simplicity of only having to connect up to our Home Wifi.Setup was a breeze, with the box recognising the dongle strait away and connecting up without issue. The Wifi signal is amazing also, giving us just below full strength on the ground floor with the box up on the 2nd, where my old Sky 'router' had trouble getting a single past the balustrade. The UI is easy to use & easy enough to tab through (if mouse is missing), Wifi settings come with it pre-enabled & are easy to tweak. The unit also looks great with decent build quality (insofar as consumer routers ever do have good build quality)The only issue I had was that the router doesn't seem to be able to report the 3G signal strength for the dongle I purchased (E3231v2), and I also can't see any interface allowing you to see any texts sent to the sim e.g. for 3 account activation, which just means I'll have to pull it out and stick it in a laptop to activate; but these a minor issues when considering the ease and brilliance of the product.

This is a very enjoyable little device - I first knew of these specific "nano routers" from TP Link as a techie friend had the original version in maybe 2014-15. A lot of the headache is removed by having a physical mode switch on the device, but I would say that the placement of items on the actual web config interface is a bit random - it's all there - but you have to hunt up and down for it all (I found it useful to check the device log and then look for that configuration - issues with an IGMP version mismatch in my case). Make sure that you keep hold of / have access to the included documentation at least while setting up for the first time.I also initially had the device stood upright near a wall and from trial and error I think that the (built in)antenna(s) must be in the top (grey) part of the case as my signal improved once it was flat.I am using the device as a hotspot bridge for a portal-page open network and can confirm it passes through the portal authentication page without issues. The device has a lot of clever options available to you - the USB is designed for either a 3G/4G mobile data dongle (which this device can then give shared access to) or a memory stick (from which it can seemingly share files between all users or host as a media streaming server). I originally intended to hotspot by bridging a wifi connection but due to complexity of the config page, I resorted to connecting the ethernet connection option to the device with all endpoints connected to the newly created hotspot. It's a good device once you get everything just right, and is very "set and forget" - no issues after it power cycles etc, but that initial setup can be a little more tricky than you might be bargaining for.

I bought this after reading a few reviews. I use a 3G E-367 modem and I have PC, Laptop, Wii and a PS3. It was a bit of a pain to kept swapping the modem about when you need it. I was getting fed up of have the laptop on just to play BF3 via PS3. The Reviews stated it did not work wirelessly with the PS3, but it arrived and yes it does (just disable UPnP on the modem setup screen first, no port forwarding or rubbish like that) in fact its the easiest bit of kit I have ever had the pleasure of setting up, it took all of 5 minutes, didnt need drivers or firmware updates. It also works as a standard router with a land line, or combination of the two, like a fail safe. the settings and options are the same as any router. There are 4 LAN ports at the back if needed. It will disconnect the 3G modem if nothing is requiring it, for example internet explorer, if its open it stays on if you close internet explorer after a few minutes it turns off, cracking! Its excellent value for money, N(300mb) 3G router @ around £30, compared that with the Zoom 3G routers which are more expensive, not as fast (150mb) not as flexible and very ugly (looks like it was made in a shed). I have Speednet tested using the 3G modem at: Ping 49: download 8.49mb: upload 1.8mb. I havent found any faults or dislikes as of yet, surprised it hasnt won any awards (come on Which? wink wink) what else do you want? It handles data much better than a direct connection to a USB in a laptop or a PC, Played hours of games while also surfing the net, also excellent for HD Streaming. No, it wont make a cup of tea, iron your clothes, comfort you in your hour of need or solve the worlds economic woes but as a router its perfect.Read full review...

TP-Link TL-MR3020 V3 Portable 3G/4G Wireless N RouterI use this when my BT fibre goes down and I use it to extend the Huawei Mifi that BT send out to provide 4G whilst the fibre is down.It took me ages to work out how to do this - so putting it here incase it helps others. There may be better or easier ways but I couldn't find them. This solution means I can a) use many wifi devices b) my house has ethernet cables and hubs running rooms away, and these now link to the TP and therefore get internet - which I couldn't do just with the BT huawei. When my fibre goes down, BT send out a Huawei Mifi E5785 with a 4G sim.But it has no ethernet port and can only connect 10 wifi devices - and has a short range so doesn't cover the whole house.I used this TP-Link TL-MR3020 V3 Portable 3G/4G Wireless N Router to link to the MIfi and then plug ethernet into the TP Link so that I can get internet in other rooms.1. There is a switch on the TP link to choose 4G or AP. Choose AP2. Plug the TP link in and wait for Wifi signal3. On a PC , use your network settings to link to the TP (like you do when choosing a wifi connection)4. Then type tplinkwifi.net in your pc browser and this takes you to a TP set up screen.5. The default TP user and pw is admin admin6. Set up as a REPEATER7. Then (still in the tp setup screen) scan for the Huawei Mifi and join it and give it the Huawei pw.8. This should now mean that any wifi devices can now join the TP and get internet.9. Then plug ethernet cable into the TP and anything on the end of the ethernet (a hub or laptop) will now have internet.

I got one of these as a Xmas present and I am very pleased with it. The wireless signal is much stronger and faster than my old 3G router. I have the router upstairs beside a window to get the best signal for my dongle and I have a PS3, Xbox, two laptops and two smartphones all using the router without issue downstairs.I get almost full strength on the laptops and phones at 270 MBPS which is a vast improvement over my old Zoom travel router which was 150 MBPS max and I was getting 33 - 40 MBPS. I now have stutter free you tube etc.The Xbox picks up a strong signal and I find it more than capable for online gaming now which was hit and miss with the other router. It's a similar story with the PS3.I have a new 3 E367 dongle and it works flawlessly with this router although you need the updated firmware, available from TPLINK online.Out of all of the 3G routers I have used this one is definitely the best. One more advantage is I haven't had to reboot the router since I got it 10 days ago I would have had to reboot the Zoom at least twice a week before! If you are looking for a 3G router just buy this one, you won't regret it :)****update**** I decided to go for BT Infinity and the router (homehub) BT supplied was only 150 Mbps, turns out this router works with infinity through the WAN port. Absolutely brilliant combining the speed of fibre with the 300 Mbps wireless throughput from this router. I have the dongle configured as a failover for the infinity connection and it works flawlessly :), even more pleased with my purchase now!

After some initial confusion about firmware updates I was very impressed with this router. I would have rated 5/5 if it wasn't for the firmware issue as it's not mentioned in the manual.Vote useful if you need a firmware installation guide, I have included below.Compatibility - Purchased a 3 network (using in the UK) Huawei e353 dongle and it worked straight out of the box with no firmware updates. Had an old e1550 dongle by Huawei that I couldn't get to work, even though was stated on the TP-Link website that it was supported.Signal Strength - I love in a large old 3 bed flat with solid brick walls between every room and I get full signal on my mac,and cheap £100 tablet in every room.THERE IS NO INSTRUCTIONS on how to do a firmware update. So, for those people who have dongles that should be compatible with this device and cannot figure this out, here's how:Download the latest firmware from the TP-Link site.Save it to desktop for ease of access or wherever you please.Plug in the router and connect to you're PC/Mac via the ethernet cable as described in the user manual.Type the TP-Link IP address (192.168.0.1 is default) and enter you're user/account name and password (admin, admin is default).Look down the left hand side menu and select 'System Tools'.In this drop down menu select 'Firmware Upgrade'.Copy and paste the location of the firmware upgrade you downloaded or select browse and locate the file that way.Click upgrade.VOILA.Hope this helps someone.

Reading the confusing reviews for this device, I was unsure whether it would be any good or not. Having owned a Tripmate Nano before, I knew I wanted something better, preferably dual band and specifically, I wanted something that I could connect to a hard drive and use it aboard a minibus as a media server on long journeys, as well as for bridging WiFi and Ethernet in hotel rooms.I needn't have worried. This is miles better than a Tripmate. It is easy to setup in any of its three operating modes, has a lot of power and range for its size, plugs right into a hard drive and provides media server, file sharing, FTP and guest network functionality, works pretty seamlesly with network enabled media players, such as VLC and runs just as happily off a car cigarette lighter socket with an adaptor as it does off a phone charger. It also works as a NAT firewall and offers good security, unless you're particularly paranoid. So, really it's perfect for what I need. I have a hard drive with hundreds of movies on it and have just toured across Australia with it for two months and I can say the long drives just flew by with everyone on their tablets streaming the movies of their choice. I'm very glad I took a chance on it.

I work as a computer technician in an area where broadband isn't easily accessible by landline and always recommend this router to customers who use a USB dongle with SIM to access 3G signal.Installation is straightforward. The user interface is friendly, even to those who may find such a configuration process a bit daunting. Inserting the USB is all you have to do as far as establishing a connection is concerned. The router takes care of configuring that end of things. Allows 4 wired connections as well as wireless connectivity. The range is very good thanks to the sizeable antennae and can be easily extended using a repeater if you want to broadcast a bit further. The wireless button allows you to turn on and off the WIFI which can be an advantage. The user interface allows you to set any name you like for your network as well as your own password, which can be changed as often as you like.I would also recommend using a TP-Link MA180 USB dongle with this router. For the money, they are a lot better in terms of performance when compared to the average dongle a service provider will supply you with.Be aware that it can an take a couple of minutes to acquire a signal when turned on.

I saw a review on this router which stated it would not work wirelessly with a PS3, read on peeps. I needed one as I use a 3G E-387 on the three network and I have more than one computer. It took minutes to setup, I didnt need any drivers or disks and the big bonus was that it does indeed work wirelessly with a PS3. I was getting tried of setting up the laptop to play BF3, but now I can just use the router, woo! The only thing I will point out is I could not connect to any BF3 servers, I read that you had to port forward, not true and can be a security risk. All that needs to be done is to set the UPnP to disable on the router setup page, once the router is connected to a PC or laptop open a window for the internet and type in [...]this will access the router start up page. I only managed to played a couple of games as a test while the laptop surfed the net, no problems not jerking no lag. I also speednet tested it as well; ping: 49; download 8.49mb: upload 1.89mb. not bad at all. If you Have a 3G modem and a PS3 this is for you! I have looked at the Alternatives Zoom, 3's own brand network router, etc, they just dont touch the TP-Link for speed, value or it's can do attitude.

Item: It's a neat small package, easy to throw in a bag.Performance: Setup to act as a bridge, performance was ok. Speedtest showed a throughput loss of about 25-30% which is better than a different brand/model that I tried. 4K Netflix over WiFi was ok with just an occasional fuzzy frame, but playing Stadia on WiFi was bad (unplayable) even when set to low data usage. When using it in "client mode" (travel router connected to WiFi, a network cable from the travel router to a chromecast ultra) Stadia played fine.Router Software: The admin pages have the full configuration you'd get on a home router - great for someone who knows what they are doing - probably overkill for most people. There is a quick setup, but I didn't need it. Plenty of options to change the network name/dns/dhcp etc etc - I liked that you can have separately named 2.5ghz and 5ghz networks.Android app - very disappointing as it didn't have travel router listed at all in the setup screen(s). When I did find the router (after selecting a completely different type) it just threw me to the normal webpage admin screen. I uninstalled it.Going to test it via Hotel WiFi in the next few days and report back.

This is a brilliant piece of technology and it is very simple:- Plug In The Router- Connect the ethernet cable- Plug In The Dongle In To The Router- Type 192.168.1.1 into your browser screen and adjust the settings for the dongle or automatically detect it and press okay.- Now you are ready to go and connect electrical devices.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------PLEASE CONSIDER A FEW THINGS BEFORE HAND HOWEVER -ALTHOUGH THIS MAY BE PERFECT FOR SOME,IF YOU HAVE A PLAYSATION 3 !!!!THIS IS NOT FOR YOU!!!!!--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sony denies access to all external dongles and 3G routerseven via ethernet so there is literally no point to attempt this I have spent days and it is not compatible with this device and all others unless you keep your PC on 24/7 (hard, long and tedious - so don't).Apart from this hiccup by Sony, TP-LINK can connect to all:- Desktops- Laptops/Notebooks- Chromebooks- Netbooks- Tablets (Android and iPad)- Mobile Phones (Wi-Fi required)- XBOX 360- Nintendo Wii and Wii U- Nintendo DSi
