Pizza ~ 6 pieces solid wood approx Diameter 17 cm, Depth 2 cm. Slices approx Length 8 cm, Widest part 8 cm. Underside, outer edge and top surfaces painted cream. Top surface transfer of red tomato purée with gaps showing the base cream colour to look like grated cheese. Outer wavy edges of dark brown around the topping. Each slice has three circles of hook side white velcro. Inner cut edges painted dark brown with one circle of white velcro, alternating hook/fluffy sides. The slices are a perfect size for small hands yet not too small for realistic play.Topping ~ 54 discs either wood or mdf approx Diameter just under 3.5 cm, Depth 4 mm. All surfaces painted cream with a circle of white velcro fluffy side underneath. The toppings are transfers divided into 3 sets of 18: Salami slice, mushroom slice and a slice of red and green pepper together. If the toppings are lined up with the velcro on the slices, they protrude over the cutting edge making slicing difficult. Best to make sure they are pushed together avoiding the cut edges.Plate ~ Solid perhaps mdf approx Diameter 20.5 cm, Depth 1 cm. Slight raised edge to retain pizza. Painted bright green all over.Pizza Cutter ~ Handle solid wood, half varnished, half painted red. A wooden pin secures the mdf disc/cutter which rotates with ease. The tapered disc edge aides slicing. Total Length approx 20 cm, disc Diameter approx 7 cm.Server ~ Solid wood, half varnished, half painted red. Tapered edge to aide serving. Total Length approx 19 cm.Box ~ Solid wood approx 33 cm x 23 cm, Depth 4 cm. Inner walls and underside plain wood. Outer edges and inner base area transfers of a takeaway pizza design in the same green as the plate and red with a white background. Divided into a main section for the pizza with plate, cutter and server and three smaller areas to store all the toppings.Everything is well made and built to last. The box serves as pizza delivery and storage, if only it came with a wooden lid to slide on and off with the takeaway design. This would add to both play and storage options. My little one adores this set and sometimes doesn't use the topping so turning the pizza into a cake. When cutting the first slice of the complete pizza/cake, it becomes re attached when the second side of the slice is cut. To avoid this, place the server along the first cut edge so when the second side is cut and pushed back together, it doesn't stick. Although this could be a negative, it has given a lovely problem solving opportunity. We find this superb hands on fraction, division, addition and subtraction experience through play. We use the toppings for snap, find a pair/go fishing, counting, sets, patterning, rolling the longest, shortest and building towers while eyes are covered. A lovely addition to my daughter's shop/ café and takeaway becoming biscuits, sweets, magic coins, magic beans, cake decorations...Sometimes playing complete the pizza game with all the toppings in a bag and the pizza base on the plate; decide which topping to collect and take turns pulling a topping out. If it's the wrong topping, put it back and the next person has a go. The first one to complete three the same on a slice of pizza keeps that slice. The one with the most slices wins. This really does have many possibilities for learning enjoyment, a topping purchase!

I was inspired to get this for a four year and a seven year old, purely on the basis of it looking nice in the picture (and making me feel hungry, but that's quite beside the point). As it turns out, the toy has been extremely popular - although that has more to do with the little ones' experiences in a certain sandwich-shop franchise than anything to do with Melissa and Doug's creative expertise. It was when they asked me if I wanted 'Italian bread' that I started to get the feeling this toy had moved on to a whole new level. When the two girls lined up side by side and interrogated me in a smiling but ruthlessly efficient manner what fillings I wanted in my sandwich I was almost sure I knew what their influences might have been. When they relieved me of my money, gave me an empty cup and pointed me in the direction of the cold tap I was absolutely positive of it. So, what does this tell me?1. This toy inspires immense creative play, as well as being well made and quite delightful to play with. The little Velcro pads that fix each ingredient to the next are, in my opinion, quite tough to pull apart though. Then again, I'm the sort of sensitive soul who cries for whoever is voted off of 'X-Factor' each week.2. The commercial influences on our children are insidious and ought to be watched rather carefully.3. Age is no barrier to opening up a multi-national sandwich-shop franchise.4. I'm still hungry. I wonder if my little relatives' shop is still open...?

I've got a bit of a bone to pick with Melissa and Doug with regard to this product as, every time I visit this page in order to compose my review of it, I find myself completely overwhelmed by the desire to open up another window and send for a 10 inch pepperoni stuffed crust instead. Yet again, I've succumbed to the temptation... so it's a race against time now!I bought this for my little three year old home-educated relation, the Heston Blumenthal of the local under fives, and she still offers me the odd slice of it now, over a year later. An immense amount of thought goes into each individually-crafted slice and, despite the fact that there are only 'officially' three different toppings, that proves no boundary to the creatively minded. She presides over a bit of a 'pizza speakeasy' really. Mushrooms, pepperoni and peppers might well be the somewhat limited Melissa and Doug / Eliot Ness options but, say the magic word and a world of truly Blumenthalic pizza ingredients magically opens up. Banana and Cucumber? She'll see you right... ice cream and crisps? Come right in... .The wheel doesn't seem to see much action, although the thing that actually lifts the bits around the place does. Actually, come to think of it, I don't believe I've seen the pizza as a 'whole' since the day she unwrapped it. She dishes it out slice by slice - quite clearly she wants no family obesity on her conscience. My goodness, was that the doorbell...?

I purchased this item as a birthday present for my niece, in hopes that it would keep her busy and happy, and without much risk of her swallowing any plastic objects (because lord knows little kids just seem to love shovelling plastic toys into their mouths!)Firstly I have to say that this is a fantastic substitute for any kind of plastic food building products. The felt is lovely and soft and isn't cheap looking at all. I was actually pleasantly surprised with just how much you actually get in this set, allowing for lots of different combinations to make, whether it be an egg, bacon and lettuce sandwich (both brown and white, or one slice of each for those of you who prefer 50/50 bread) or a ham, cheese and tomato bun. Of course, my niece decided to use every ingredient the first time and made a rather large sandwich that not even I could get around to eating if it had been real.My niece absolutely loves this, though does occasionally mistake the cheese felt for real cheese and does try to nibble it every time she picks it up.Overall, I am absolutely thrilled with this product and would recommend it in a heartbeat. Even if it does make me feel rather hunger, even I enjoy making pretend sandwiches with her, and I'm 28 years old! This is definitely a must buy.

I purchased this for my 2 year old daughter who loves imaginary play. Like other Melissa and Doug toys we own, it comes in an open box. As a parent I find that frustrating, as inevitably the contents get spilled or separated. My little girl loves making us sandwiches with this set. It’s easy for her to stick the Velcro together and she is able to make lots of different combinations thanks to the large number of parts this has. It keeps her occupied for reasonably long periods of time and it’s something she will happily play with independently as well as with me and her dad.My daughter finds it hard to cut through the Velcro herself to ‘slice’ the bread or the bun, but can do it with help.I am aware that she is under the recommended age of 3 years for this toy, so she may find it easier once she is older.Being wood, the set is durable and should stand the test of time, however I was surprised that the finish on a few of the pieces is not as good as I have come to expect from Melissa and Doug. Some of them are slightly rough to the touch and the colours are a bit off – the ham in our set for example is bright orange and looks no different to the cheese! My daughter doesn’t seem to notice though, so I would still recommend this.

This is a really nice toy - well made in traditional styling. All of the pieces are made out of good quality beautifully finished wood and the pizza wheel works nicely for separating the segments of this cutting food toy.Like the similar birthday party set (also made by Melissa and Doug), this little set really supports the interests of the preschool children I work with well: allowing them to imagine all kinds of dining scenarios (restaurants, home cooking, take away), practice sharing, turn taking, customise their own pizzas and even practice their basic maths skills (counting the segments and different kinds of toppings they want on their pizzas). The colours for this set are perhaps less appealing than those of the 'Birthday party' set, and even when pretending the majority of children don't seem inclined to favour mushrooms as a pizza topping! The set comes in a nicely made wooden storage tray, complete with compartments for storing the topping pieces. The only thing more you could have really asked would have been a lid for the top of the storage tray, to help ensure that the pieces are kept safely.

I had a friend who's 2yr old child had a food cutting set, and I was skeptical of whether my 2 years old daughter would also like it. I picked Melissa and Doug's set b/c their quality is always excellent, and I am again impressed with the craftsmanship and detail of this set. I am also pleasantly surprised to find that of all the expensive electronic gifts my 2 years got for her birthday, this has turned out to be her favorite toy!!!! It keeps her entertained for quite a while, and is great for parent/child play together. I only wish it came with more pieces, as I run out of combinations of sandwiches to make for her (but she definitely doesn't seem to mind, she just keeps cutting!)Excellent for hand-eye and fine motor coordination, educational (verbal, counting, colors, etc) skills, and withstands a significant toddler beating. Also handy to have the storage box for clean-up. I also strongly recommend Melissa and Doug's food cutting set, which makes a nice coordinated set with this one, and increases the educational value and variety (for mommy who seems to get bored more quickly than my daughter!)

This is a really enjoyable well-made toy in the Velcro-together cutting food style. The great quality, well-finished wooden pieces are brightly painted (over time, the paint job can get a bit chipped if the pieces are not carefully looked after), and in gentle hands can last really well. The pieces are ideal for home or childcare/early years education use (the latter in support of Early Years Foundation Stage goals regarding making healthy choices) and are a lot of fun. The wooden knife and a couple of the bread pieces are unfinished and over time can be prone to picking up dirt, washing these pieces isn't ideal, but a quick and gentle rub with fine sand/glass paper is enough to bring them back into good condition. The sturdily made presentation/storage box is also wooden and has glued on paper labels printed in a red and white tablecloth effect. It's just a shame, as with many other Melissa and Doug toys, that a lid isn't included to keep the pieces safely inside the box once the initial shrink-wrap has been removed.

Fantastic quality as usual with melissa and doug toys. I have bought around 12 + of their range and all have the same good quality. I have only one major problem with this and have realised that most of this range has the same silly issue of no box lid !! Really ?? It is so frustrating, all the small parts will never stay in the box and this is quite annoying when my 2 year old wants to take it were ever he goes. We have made a cardboard lid and wrapped elastic bands around it but the small "topping" discs still fall out. I don't mind paying for quality but think it's disgusting when such an obvious necessity has been overlooked. The second very minor issue is the fact they have only three different topping to choose from, however their are 18 of each topping, peppers, mushrooms and pepperoni ) (54 discs altogether) Would have rather seen more variety of toppings and less discs per variety. This doesn't bug me at all though. Overall I would still defiantly recommend the product, well made and really fun to play with .

This is such a well made toy, with loads of bits, I was impressed that it comes with an oven tray and takeaway box. It has been great for teaching my 2 year old the words for onion, pepper etc. I was a bit disappointed to find that the bits don't actually stick to the base. I thought this would work a bit like fuzzy felt (if you are old enough to remember that!) and the bits would stick to the pizza. However they don't, it's not so much of a problem if you only have a few things on your pizza, but if you load it up with all its toppings, when my little boy tips it up to "eat" it, they all fall off. One other thing to mention is that we have a dog and although I pride myself on how clean my house it,these felt pieces seem to attract dog hair like you wouldn't believe, I seem to be constantly sticky rollering the pieces to get the dog hair off! However if you can live with these faults, it is a good toy and it is one of the first things my little boy goes for when playing with his kitchen.

I had been getting requests for a sandwich set for a while, and I had held out against buying it, because the wooden one is only sixteen pieces, most of which are bread! Then I just happened to see this one and oh my living word, what a difference! This is an absolutely terrific set! It is packed with lovely sandwich fillings, there's white and brown bread, long rolls and a pitta pocket. There is also a guide on the packaging to tell you what everything is. When I got it I was not expecting anything spectacular, but what amazes me is how detailed everything is. The rolls and bread aren't just flat, they've been stuffed to feel puffy, like bread should. The slices of meat and cheese are the right shape. As I write my little girl is sitting on the floor making huge club sandwiches for herh dolls and bears. I'd say my only slight sadness is that you can't cut these ones in half, but I understand why you can't. Overall I'm well impressed and will be definitely getting more felt food sets.

Bought this for my nephew's 3rd birthday as he's started playing shop and pretending to cook/prepare food.I've bought quite a few Melissa+Doug toys for him now and find them to be spot on. There's 16 pieces to this sandwich making set which comprise of. . .1 knife1 x burger bun (top+ bottom)4x slices of bread1x beef burger1x ham1x egg2x cheese2x lettuce2x tomato1x green pepperThese all come in a sturdy wooden.box but as others have said, there's no lid!?As the parts of the sandwich are put together the whole thing is held together by a central velcro piece on each part. So your child can move it without it falling to bits. The items are easily identifiable being the correct colour and shape.Plenty of scope here for learning food groups, names, colours, counting, food preparation and healthy eating. This is a really nice set which will take a few knocks and last a long time.Just need to find a beer and kebab one now for my lad. He's big! :)

This is a brilliant wooden pizza set with plenty of velcro pieces to amuse and entertain little ones. As well as the 6 slices it has a pizza cutting wheel and 3 different toppings: peppers, mushroom and salami slices. As well as a good addition to a play kitchen, it has proven to be a great maths game with so many opportunities to talk about fractions, adding and subtracting toppings etc. It is well made and built to last. Two little issues that prevented this getting 5 stars across the board: The pizza and toppings all come in a lovely pizza box - with no lid. This means that it is a fairly large box that has to be stored flat so all the pieces don't get lost. Rather frustrating not being able to pack it away.Second minor irritation is the limited number of different types of topping. A bit frustrating after a while of playing and shame that they don't sell an "add-on" topping pack or just included a few extras to extend play.

Like many others have said the set was less than satisfactory, the paint was chipped, the velcro badly glued in and bits of food covered in glue. Some of the paint was dull and the wood was rough. A couple of the pieces my 2 year old said were "yucky and dirty" and wouldn't play with them.Amazon were contacted and was offered a replacement instantly. I had already said it was a shame because M&D are usually very good well made toys. My daughter seemed quite happy playing with the other bits and it bothered me more than her!Amazon were told that we would like the replacement ASAP as we couldn't very well take away what we had already give to her and we were told it would be with me next day onexpress delivery at no extra cost (Amazon prime bonus maybe?)A far better quality sandwich set arrived today at 10am...less than 16 hours after making the initial phone call.THAT is what I call customer service, well done Amazon!
