As part of my job I visit schools to teach children about looking after dogs and staying safe around dogs (including greeting a dog appropriately and behaviour around dogs that are eating, in their bed, etc.). I had a border collie (of unknown brand!) helping me out, but poor Shep got a few holes in his belly and was bleeding polystyrene 'beans', plus was a bit bulky for getting on the bus, so he has now gone into retirement.Patch is the new pup, and is absolutely fantastic. My only concern is that being predominantly white he might get grubby, then I will have to test how well he washes up. But it is a very realistic Jack Russell size, shape and colour - he even has dark rings around his eyes - and I have been stopped and asked 'is that real?'even by adults - personally I think that, although realistic, it's still fairly obviously a toy! It has a very solidly stuffed body and a stiff wire frame, despite other reviews I find mine doesn't pose well and pings back into the standing shape but I am happy with that.If I'm nit picking one of the seams along a back paw wasn't finished properly, but it was such a tiny fault as to be unnoticeable. This is not really a toy to snuggle up in bed with, but if you are after a realistic looking toy dog you won't go far wrong with one of Melissa and Doug's.

I really love this. Being just a fraction smaller than life size, its still pretty big and I bought it as a laugh as it's a replica of our real dog. It's structured with a frame so does stand up on it's own, and it's really soft. We have it by the side of the sofa and occasionally i'll give it a bit of a stroke on the head; it's actually really therapeutic. Yes I am aware of how insane i'm becoming stroking a fake dog, but all in all it's quite nice. (And so the slow descent in to madness starts here....)We have a real, genuine and breathing black Labrador who is still confused by this. She bites it's ears, licks its face and occasionally gives a little growl because it doesn't react to her,but clearly she thinks enough that it could be real. The one we received has quite a fat neck and adopts more the shape of a sheep, it also looks at you from all angles in the room, but has such a characteristic face with a classic lab head tilt, the whole family adore it and it's been a fantastic purchase.

Best dog I’ve ever owned. He has what can only be described as an SAS level of concentration and aggression in his stare - you will be dead before he backs down. That being said, he’s lovely with the kids.Such is his constitution, I’ve yet to feed him and I’ve owned him 6 weeks. He’s also not shat anywhere, leading me to believe my house training has paid off and he’s actually using the downstairs toilet more reliably than my 6 year old.I was particularly impressed when I came down one morning to find the cold corpse of a gypsy tea leaf lying mangled in front of the mutt. I’m still under police investigation for that, though I’m sure they’ll give the dog credit where credit’s due and perhaps he might get a certificate for bravery and a Jumbone off the old bill.I know they’re all different personalities, obviously, but I can’t recommend this breed enough and hope you’ll make one of these beautiful, courageous canines a good home.

Santa brought 'Dorothy' for Christmas 2011. My then 6 year old daughter had asked for an over-sized bear but knowing how much she loves dalmations I thought that this would be a better bet. I was right. Dorothy has become the fifth member of our family. She has been dressed up in Spanish flamenco dresses, swimsuits, beach wear and has travelled in the car...strapped into a car seat. Of all the presents I have ever bought my daughter, this has been by far the most successful. As far as the quality of the product goes - I have to say I was a tiny bit worried when she first arrived as some of the sprayed on spots looked a little haphazard and it almost looks as though she has false eye lashes as she has little black spots over her eyes. Also, her head is made of polystyrene, whereas the rest of her body is fairly soft. But these are the concerns of an almost middle aged mum. My daughter thinks she's perfect.

The plush is really well made (even if not 100% similar to a real dalmatian). It's a male dalmatian and if someone looks at it from far away, looks like a real dog. As a construction, it's not really solid. The head can be (in my opinion) easily broken from the rest of the corpse. This doesnt mean that it cannot be hugged but it should be always be handled carefully. More a plush to see that to play with ;-)Made in China (not a problem since the quality looks good).Pro+it's similar to a real dalmatian (90% - the head is a little bit too big, the spots are OK but not exactly like the real ones)+it stands like a real dog+it's big like a real dalmatian!+it's really cheap (compared to other plush)Cons-To be carefully handled-The head is not soft (styrofoam?)and can be (in my opinion) easily be removed/broken from the restFor a not too young child, 100% approved! :-)

Imagine a teenager seeing a naked women for the first time - this is how my 1+ year old daughter reacts to dogs when she sees them. She has a few "cartoony" soft dogs, but none of them make her as happy as real dogs do. So it was a logical choice for me to buy a life-like soft toy and I must say the reaction was more than positive. She was playing with her a lot yesterday, so I'm happy. The dog itself is really nice - looks a lot like a real thing and the size is perfect. It seem to have a "skeleton", so it stands perfectly even when my daughter is hugging the creature. It's way better than a real dog for me - I like cats way more (and don't like pets in general),so the fact that I don't have to walk it out makes me happy. I also noticed that Melissa & Doug make a 1.2 meter tall giraffe - will probably buy one too. The quality is really good.

I just knew I had purchased a good looking 'doggie' for our godchild, when I saw a local pet shop displaying dog coats on this little fellow. (It still had it's Melissa & Doug label attached!)It was just so life like. The seven year old recipient was also delighted with her new 'pet' and has taken it around with her everywhere. Even her Mummy had trouble putting it down, it was so cute. I bought a puppy collar & lead for it, as I felt she would like that and made a blanket for it to sleep on, so I guess the new addition will be really 'at home' and taken care of, very well.So if you are thinking of a pet substitute for a child not allowed any, who might also have allergies, I would recommend this very highly. It is not all soft and mushy, but has a very lifelike quality that a child over five would enjoy.

Having had Labradors in my life for as long as I can remember I was dubious about buying this item. I have bought it for an elderly relative who adores black labradors but cannot care for a real one and I thought this may be the next best thing. Now I don't know if she is going to receive it as I have fallen in love with it!!!!! It has an adorable face and is exactly the size of a real life labrador. It is perfect to sit and stroke, just like a real one, but it doesn't need to be exercised or cleared up after! All the fun, but less of a mess than a real dog, and of course it doesn't shed it's hair like live dogs!!!The only thing I could say against it is the front paws could be a little better shaped, but all in all I would recommend this toy.I am so impressed I have ordered more in the range.

The Melissa & Doug Black Lab was a present for my grand daughter who would love to have a real dog but has accepted that it would not be practical with both her parents out at work all day and she being at school. The Melissa & Doug Black Lab has become her substitue dog friend and is a great success. The dog's appearance is very realistic and is left in the window each day to guard the house. I am sure any stranger approaching would believe it to be a real dog! The plush covering is lovely to stroke and my grand daughter is often to be found hugging and stroking her new friend. My only criticism is that one of the seams had a small hole but as it has not deteriorated I have not thought toreturn it and I am sure my grand daughter would not agree to part with it even for a replacement.

Melissa & Doug (Bernstein) is an American company with a good reputation for plush toys, plus toys with a practical or educational element, and this giant sheep is a well made product that is good value at the current price of around fifty pounds from Amazon. The sheep stands about 20 inches tall and is quite lifelike, featuring realistic markings and details, and it is hand-made from a soft polyester fabric. Whether you are looking for a large soft sheep toy for a child, a sheep to feature in a tableau, or even a theatrical prop, this plush model from Melissa & Doug could well fit the bill. You can get an idea of the size of the toy from the illustration featuring the sheep and a child on Amazon's product page – perhaps a bit more lamb-size than an adult sheep, however.

I bought this dog as he looked lifelike and lifesize on the ad. I wasn't wrong; he is an excellent lifelike model of a Jack Russell terrier; He is ideal as a model for our business of manufacturing and selling dog coats and helps immensley to demonstrate our products. I would imagine he would also make a great toy for a small child if it's parents cannot have a real dog; also a good "pre-pet" and good for a child's imaginary pet.. his fur is lifelike and such a telling face! I have looked twice at times when he has caught my eye when entering the workroom!... Nice price too; usually, you would pay twice as much or more for this item. Very sturdy and no sharp bits to be found. All in all,a good product at a nice price.

Bought this Stuff Toy Dog as a mascot for a school. They wouldn't let the real dog onto the school grounds so needed a replacement. I came across this gem and he looked just like our dog.He came really quick and was packaged very well, so he wasn't bent or squashed. The toy was the same height and size as my real dog, and you can get confussed which is which when they are both still. He now lives in school and the children love him. He gets moved around the class room all day long, as if he is real.Out of all the toy dogs we looked at, this one is the most life like with all the details spot on.Would recommend any one of the dogs in this collection for being lifelike and spot on fun.

My father has dementia and we bought Doug the pug to keep him company in his new nursing home. Dad believes Doug is real, and adores him, stroking him contstantly. Doug is life size, soft, beautiful and very cuddly. As well as bering an obvious source of comfort to Dad, Doug gives the family something to talk about when we visit Dad in his new home. Any mention of Doug brings a big smile to Dad's face. His addition to our family has been one of the best things we've done for Dad since he was diagnosed with dementia. I would recommend this dog to anyone in need of a companion / cuddle or who used to love dogs, but can no longer manage one in their own home.

My girlfriend has been going on at me about getting her a sausage dog for ages - this gave me a solution to that without buying the real thing! It is a really high quality, realistic looking toy dog - better than the pictures on here demonstrate. Many people have entered our living room, honestly believing we have a new dog! The size is perfect, it is soft to the touch, but not flimsy in stature and can stand up by itself comfortably. If you want a sausage dog to look at, but without taking it for walks, or having it empty itself on your floors, this is the dog for you - so impressed!
