Hi, this may help any1 searching for the above subject:-I was, in 2 instances, struggling to personalise both Violet and Scout with a name. So, after some failed attempts, I left it without any audio because it was not in their database list of names, and so I only added the 'spelling' of the child's name without the audio part. But, it didn't seem to have the effect I expected to get as per their advertising of the product, and it just didn't seem to be enjoyed by the child. So I emailed 'My Pal Leapfrog' asking for a way to add the 2 names I wanted, 'Asher & Eshaal', to a nearest match as possible.... and hey, it worked! As suggested by them, I changed the country to US, and on a couple of attempted searches,I found an 'audio' near match as close as possible, (i.e. I wanted 'Eshaal' with 2 a's, but only found 'Eshal' with one 'a', but the audio pronunciation was near to perfect. And then I just corrected the spelling where it tells you to! And now when the little ones use them, they get sooo excited!.... (Note: Only just newly set it up... so hence, not given a review on any other aspects of Scout and Violet).I appreciate this may still not work for every1!Here's the full reply they kindly sent to me which I followed to the end!.... Hope it works for you too:-.... (Note: Only just newly set it up... so hence, not given a review on any other aspects of Scout and Violet)..... See their response:-........LeapFrog <[email protected]>Mon 03/08/2020 11:57Hello,Thank you for contacting LeapFrog Consumer Services. My Pal Scout & Violet have been favourite puppy pals for little ones since 2009. The extensive audio name database has grown to over 6,500 unique and popular names from all around the world. Unfortunately, at this time, we are no longer recording new names or accepting new name requests for the database so we would be unable to add any additional names. If the audio of your childs name is not in our database, My Pal Scout & Violet can still be personalised to spell your childs name in a customised learning song. In this instance, you will have the option to add a nickname audio from a list of popular nicknames, or you may enter the spelling of your childs name without adding any audio.Keep in mind that while some names may not have an exact match with the same spelling in our audio database, there may be a sound-alike name available (e.g. Christine instead of Kristine). If you find a sound-alike name with a different spelling than your childs, you can select the sound-alike audio and then edit the spelling to match the spelling of your childs name. You may also find your childs name on the US database, if you change the country at the bottom of the page from UK to US you can add names from the US database. The pronunciation would sound American rather than British.Unfortunately, there are no further suggestions that we could offer. If you are dissatisfied with the product we would advise returning the product to the retailer for their comments. Your contract of sale is with the retailer and therefore they should be able to assist you further with this enquiry.Best regards,LeapFrog Consumer Services

We already had the My Pal Scout (green version) for my son and although it was never a favourite it was quite fun and he liked playing with it occasionally. Violet however is a big hit with my daughter (currently 19 months), she loves singing and dancing along to the play time songs (some are pre-prgrammed and can't be changed but you can then select a certain number of other ones from the Leap Frog website including the Wheels on the Bus, Incy Wincy Spider, Happy and you Know it etc). I was a bit disappointed given that you can program it with the child's name that Happy Birthday is just an instrumental, as it was a birthday present we were hoping that it could sing her name but it doesn't.You can program in the child's favourite animal, food and colour and it will sing a little song about those; it also sings a song spelling out the child's name which is OK as long as the correct name/spelling is on Leap Frog's list. Both of my children's names are there however my own (Vicky) is not, not in any form of the word, only Victoria which is not my name. This didn't cause us a problem as it's not for me but be sure to check that the child's name you want is on the list before you give it to them (I'm not sure if there's any way to check from Leap Frog's website or not?). The installation is a bit clunky, and the customisations are quite limited but for the price you can't really complain (except perhaps for the name issue but then it's impossible for them to list all names, especially more unusual ones). The best feature for us is the bedtime music (again you can chose which songs are on the toy from the website), you can select it to play lullabies for either 2, 5 or 10 minutes and it will say something like 'snuggle up' or 'goodnight' with the child's name before it starts. The only thing that would make this feature better would be if there could be a switch (perhaps next to the volume control/off switch) that would allow parents to disable all the other features when used for night time as my daughter has on occasion rolled over onto it and set it off singing daytime songs or wanting to play games...not very helpful for settling her to sleep!!The batteries seem to last really well too, we've been using Violet every night, and some days too for at least 15-20 at a time for several months now and they're still going strong.Admittedly there are other toys out there that do just the bedtime part but for a lovable cuddly (and apart from the bit in it's back for the batteries it is very squishy and soft) toy that plays games, sings songs AND does lullabies at a reasonable price you can't go too far wrong.

This is the second of the My Puppy Pals I have bought, after the one I got for my daughter was a huge hit with her cousin as well.On the plus side: The dog is a nice size for a 1-year old to cuddle, the buttons in the paws and tummy are easy to press so she can operate it herself. It keeps my daughter occupied especially on car journeys when she normally gets bored. We use the singing paw for play time, while the lullaby music was a lifeline when we stayed away recently. On the negative side: The name database is not huge. My daughter's name was in the databse, and we were offered two pronunciations. Only they were both the same, incorrect, pronunciation in either a male or female voice. It does not "learn your name" so if your child has an uncommon name which is not in the database, you have to use it in the name-off mode. The selection of songs is very limited, especially the sing-along songs which are the bit my daughter likes best. You can have up to 5 songs loaded at a time, and I think there are fewer than a dozen to choose from. "Happy and you know it" has two verses, "clap your paws" and "wag your tail" - would have been better sticking with things children could actually do! Old Macdonald has only one verse, "puppy", although to my nephew it sounded like "nothing" and he got quite upset at Old Macdonald having nothing on his farm. Most annoyingly, LeapFrog seem to have followed VTech and others down the path of thinking that "offkey" equals "childishly charming".Don't let the negatives put you off - this is really an excellent toy and I am very glad that we bought it. It is one of my daughter's favourites, and it has quite a long useful period as she has had it from a year while her cousin is 2 1/2 and still loves it. In terms of children's toys, that is quite a good lifespan. It is quite battery-hungry but that seems par for the course for toys.

What a breath of fresh air this toy is. You have to visit the [...] to register then download a small program to be able to download what tunes and preferences you want the puppy to sing and say. The USB cable comes with the toy (a rarity these days) and 3 AA batteries are already installed. Setting it up could not be easier. Whilst connected to your computer via the USB cable you can input your child's name, favourite food, colour and animal and then select a selection of sing-a-long tunes and lullaby's etc. Several of the songs incorporate your child's name and favourite preferences as mentioned above making it a very personal feeling toy.By pressing it's belly you also get a selection of cute phrases incorporating the child's name to further personalise the experience. It's a lovely soft toy and it automatically turns itself off if unplayed with for a while to help save batteries. It can be turned off immediately by just squeezing a paw.Really young babies of course won't be able to squeeze the paws (although they are very easy to press) but I'm sure they'll still love to hear the music and enjoy the flashing bone round the puppy's neck (flashes different colours depending on what the phrase or song is). I should mention that there is an educational aspect to this toy too as some of the phrases and songs encourage counting and spelling as well as the fun stuff like mimicking animal noises.I can imagine that this is one of those toys that kiddies want to take with them everywhere from 6 months up to the age of 3 and probably beyond.I'm sure my granddaughter will love this and I can't wait to give it to her at Christmas.I can't imagine any child not absolutely loving this toy.

My little girl has the smaller version of violet that she’s had since birth and she absolutely adores her so I was pleased to see there were other violet products on the market.Violet was easy to set up you just plug in the aux to your phone/tablet/laptop (this can’t be personalised without an aux port), go into the website and enter in the details about your little one to load onto the toy, it takes less than 5 mins. Now, I bought violet because it can be programmed with your child’s name and things they like, like favourite colour/food etc. However for me I feel a bit let down because when I plugged in violet set her up my child’s name wasn’t on the list. There’s an option for her to spell your child’s name and a “nickname” option but as nice as that is for their learning to spell, I can’t help feel a little let down by it, my child doesn’t have an obscure name and I think it could be improved by having a more comprehensive list of names instead of just common names like Emily and Thomas, maybe even a connected to search engine so you don’t have disappointed parents.Anyway, aside from that she sings lots of different songs and has 5 mins of bedtime music which is brilliant and a night light function which is great for little ones. Violet also tells your little one that their favourite things i.e watermelon, is her favourite thing too which my little girl loves as she feels like violet is a friend.Overall I love this product, I’m just massively disappointed that she can’t say my daughters name which is one of the advertised sale points of this item.

I normally buy my 18-month-old wooden and fabric toys, and try to steer clear of cheap plastic stuff, or electronic things. After reading the reviews on Violet however, I found myself clicking "add to basket". It arrived and as was a present for my daughter's birthday I immediately plugged it in and was amazed at how easy it was to choose the different songs for violet to play. There's a great selection and you can also put your little one's name into the songs, by clicking it off an extensive list.My daughter and I love everything about this toy. The bedtime mode, the different songs, the fact it's easy to work by simply squeezing the different paws, the look and feel, the volume is just right, the fact you can put your child's favourite animal/food/colour into the songs and despite being electronic is extremely robust! My daughter loves to sit violet on her beanbag, press the music paw and dance round the living room to the tunes. It is adorable! The ONLY possible gripe I have is that when you choose your child's name, as it comes off a pre-recorded list, it's in an american accent but the rest of the song is in an english accent?! So it goes something like "me... and my frienddddd... POAPEE" (my daughter's name is Poppy), which is a little irritating, and also that if your child has an unusual name it may not even be on the list! But that is not enough to take off a star from my rating. Extremely reasonable price too! I have bought 3 more as gifts! All in all, a fantastic toy!

I decided to buy this toy for my two and a half year old for christmas after my mother in law told me she was going to be buying the scout version for my youngest son (he will be 6 months at christmas) My oldest son is behind developmentally and so i have bought a lot of toys aimed at younger children for him and this was by far the best in my opinion. My son is only just finding his sense of self and i love the fact that the puppy can be personlised to inclue your childs name. I have bought him twinkle twinkle little violet to match and i know for a fact he will love them both. On a practical side the toy is easy to set up and even comes with batteries which is a godsend as they always seem in short supply in our house come christmas day.I would definatly recommend, it is a fantastic toy, very cute looking and lovely and soft, i had great fun setting her up with my sons name and his favorite things and choosing his little playlist from a very long selection (which is all christmas songs for now). If you are buying your infant or toddler one toy this christmas i would have to recommend this one and when you see the price tag it is even better, (i also bought my son a toffee the pony after he expressed a desire for one and it came with a much heftier price tag) but violet is defianly worth every penny, i'd have paid a lot more for this toy i cannot praise it enough my children are going to love them.

We bought this our newborn baby, and it is one of the best presents we ever bought her. It has different functions, you press one paw for games, another paw for daytime/fun music, another paw for night time soothing, the other paw is an off button, and then if you press Violet's tummy she talks more about feeling happy/sad/needing a cuddle etc.Our daughter has always been utterly delighted at the music we downloaded onto violet from (Leap Frog's website),from early on she would give a beaming smile at the up beat tunes. At times when she suffered colic, or any other sleep difficulties, we found the night time soothing music to be very useful for distracting and calming her.Until recently we have had to press all the buttons for our daughter, but now, she is realising that she can press them herself, so the toy now has a whole new meaning for her, and I can imagine that she will love this dog for many more years to come.Good value as a present, as your friends will love personalising it, when you hear the dog say your childs name for the first time, it is soooo sweet!Volume is adjustable which is brilliant too.

Violet ( orher little brother) is a must have for every baby! Could not wait and bought it for my baby when she was 3 months old.Initially she could not really contol it until 4 months but she was very happy for the songs, the little light that comes from her tie and the fact that it calls her name. The only thing I don't like is that you can not add names to it. It did not have my daughter's name, so we used a short version of it-which was programmed in Violet. To set up-I had little bit of trouble...but all I did is to try it again and again and succeeded-with my iphone! For some reason ( read from other comments) the program does not like Windows 8.Now my daughter is 5 months old and can press her pawns, laughs when Violet spells her name and we sing songs together. The lullabies help her every night to sleep! Very calming-and it has 2 volume levels! Perfect! Will be still a useful toy once she can talk- to interact with Violet.

My Pal violet is a great hit with my daughter. Violet really is her pal and is much loved and played with. In fact we hear from violet a little more than we bargained for. Fortunately she comes with a quieter setting, which is very good for nightime, when she might otherwise disturb people. Violet is very good value for money. You can't get everything you could want in a value for money purchase and one would be unfair to expect it. Personally I would like a little more educational matter but you do get a lot of enjoyment for your child and quite a few options to personalise Violet's responses. Violet is very lovable. I have 3 young daughters and they all have one. Once one was bought, others were much requested -in fact this one was a much awaited christmas present. So far we have had no problems with wear and tear, yet all 3 toys have been much used. Violet is lovable, fun and value for money. That makes her a five star buy.

When Violet arrived we managed to plug her into the computer and personalise her before my daughter saw her. At first my daughter thought it was a normal soft toy until Violet said my daughters name. My daughter looked initially confused then gave Violet a big hug. You can also personalise Violet so she knows the childs favourite colour, snack and animal. There are loads of songs to choose and when you get bored of them you can change them (I did get a bit fed up of the muffin man song after a while!). There is also a button for night time which plays softer music and my daughter now presses this herself at bed time. The best feature for us is the name as Violet uses this a lot in songs and my daughter loves that Violet knows her name. There are other options if your name is not on the list of names. For example "Peanut, Monkey, Princess" etc. Overall a fantastic toy that I think my daughter will use for a long time.

I can honestly say this was the best 12.98 i have ever spent. When our daughter was born up until 6 months she slept in her Moses basket and we used a wind up caterpillar to get her to sleep. We carried on using this when she moved into her cot and then i bought this for her birthday. I only wish i had bought this sooner, as violet transports my little girl to dreamland like no other. (She has never been a bad sleeper but its just hard getting her to actually sleep.) I have to say i was VERY impressed.Violet is super soft which is only a plus, was really easy to personalise and i just love how violet will change when her tastes change as her favourite food wont always be toast for example;)I also like how the voice isn't 'americany'which i really loathe in alot of baby toys. She doesn't really react to the toy saying her name, but im sure she will appreciate that aspect in her little friend when she is older. 5***

After hearing and reading about this toy, I couldn't wait for it to arrive! It wasn't soon enough, although it only took a couple of days. The puppy does everything the packaging says it would. It did take me a bit longer to download the thing, but apart from that all's good. We got it for our 2-months-old girl, and for now it's just a toy to play music for her, but it catches her eye and sometimes distracts her from crying. Can't wait for her to be old enough to play with Violet! I was also pleasantly surprised that our baby's name, although a bit unusual, was available. After 'introducing' Violet to our baby girl, we let her older brother to examine the new 'member' of the toy collection, and he was a bit taken aback by the fact that the puppy knew his sister's name, but not his (how unfair!!!). Other wise he now wants one for himself... In one word, great toy, money well spent, definitely recomend it!

I bought this when she was about 11 months old and she really loves music so I thought knock two birds with one stone: Bear + Music thingy. You can connect it to the computer and change the tunes but the first ones seem to have become attatched to her as she actually clicks the hands to get to a certain track. She also realised that the bottom foot makes it play for a while. The bear itself is nice quality and doesnt get dirty so easily, its a nice decent size for a 9+ month old baby i think and once they figure out how to play it themselves its just a case of interest. The only thing I got beef with is that the back battery block is huge and its hard to zip up the back with velcro.Youll find your daughter will fiddle with all the time and its always hanging out.Overall I FULLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT I THINK ITS MY NEW FIRST BIRTHDAY TOY FOR EVERY BABY MINE OR OTHERWISE lol

I got this for my niece Isobelle's 1st birthday (30th January) and it's great! It comes with an USB cable (which is at my house) so you can personalise the dog with the child's name, fave colour, animal and food! And it sings different songs, and it also sings a song that actually spells out the child's name!! My fave one is the one about the fave things, so on my niece's toy it sings about a pink duck that eats cheese on toast!!It also has a lullabye button, that helps the child sleep, so it can play for 2,5 or 10 minutes and then Violet stops talking (unless a button is pressed, the on/off switch is in the battery box) The paw on the left makes Violet imitate animals, counts hiccups, mentions the child's fave things and talks about feelings (like "I'm feeling happy!")Overall, I think it's a great toy and my niece already loves it :)
