The delivery of this product ordered direct from Meaco, was fast and very efficient. It was well packaged, and very simple to set up and use. Just basically plug in and go. We decided to purchase this product based on the fact that family members had owned for several years a Meaco de-humidifer which worked great. We have recently moved to a bungalow, which is incredibly well insulated and has been suffering a lot from condensation on the inside of the windows, especially on these cold mornings we are having. Our bedroom is the worst, first thing in the morning when we get up the window is soaked. I know opening windows is an option, but not such a good one when it's freezing outside. We decided to invest in a de-humidifer,but which one?, there is so many on the market. We knew Meaco was a good make, and initially purchased a normal compressor dehumidifer made by Meaco, it worked perfectly but seemed to make the room cold. We thought that it would make the room warmer, but all it did was blow the air around making a draft. It definitely removed the moisture from the air, but we wanted one that warmed the air too. We did a bit of digging and found we should have bought a 'Desiccant' model, not a Compressor. the desiccant model warms the air as well as removing the moisture. They are slightly more expensive but are so much better in my opinion. We contacted Meaco direct through their contact details on the Amazon page and we explained our predicament and asked if we could swap the unit for the model above which is a desiccant de-humidifer. The chap said yes no problem, "you must re-package the one you have now in all its original packaging and box". He said the Delivery driver would bring our new De-humidifer and take the one we have now away at the same time, so basically a swap, we just paid the difference in price between the cost of the two units. True to his word the driver came 2 days later and brought us the DD8L Meaco model......it was fantastic service from Meaco, especially considering it was our mistake in the first place buying the wrong one.The DD8L is a great little machine, and it does exactly what it says it does, and it warms the air too - fantastic. There is not a day that goes by in autumn and winter when we haven't used it. We no longer have any condensation issues, unless I have been cooking and forgotten to switch it on. We keep it in the kitchen most of the time, and I flick it on when I am cooking, especially pasta, potatoes etc which causes a lot of steam, and our hob extractor is not the greatest. When we first purchased the machine we had it running most of the day, just until it removed the moisture problem that we had, however now we find it's only necessary to switch it on once a day for a while. The cost of running the unit is negligible really, especially as it acts like a little heater too. It's not instant heat, but after a while it definitely takes the chill off on a cold morning or afternoon. The other great feature of the DD8L is the clothes drying option. We don't have a tumble drier we find the Meaco works great, we put the clothes on an airer, and set the unit going in the smallest room we have. It takes it a while but it definitely dries your clothes no problem. It has two other settings too, and it automatically cuts off when the humidity level is reached, so it will not keep running and running. The water holding tank is a good size, plus you have the option, and the pipe to attach, to allow it to run into a drain if you need that option. We have loaned it out to family members after they have had a water leak, and I have to say I missed my little Meaco when it was away. After a few days our condensation was back, and I was desperately in need of its return. A great product that I wouldn't be without, we should have bought one years ago. As for the company Meaco, they are spot on and I would definitely recommend both them and this product.

Won't go over everything as there are many reviews already, but there are a few things which I need to talk about.Im going to start with the major problem (in my opinion) the electrical usage. I checked the electrical usage by leaving it on overnight and swithced off everything that I could other than the fridge/freezer. Then I was a bit shocked to find that the middle fan setting was using approximately 650watts, now I thought that the middle fan setting should be using 330 watts, but nope... also checked the other fan settings and the laundry mode setting goes to a whopping 1.3kw per hour. To put that into context, if you use this setting for 24 hours (which is a possibility depending on your needs)then, if you say a typical electrical rate of 15p per kwh, then the cost would be an eyewaterting £4.68 (and some rates will be higgher than this)Now lets say you use £1 a day in electrical usage, especially if you have a large house. Then thats well over £300 in electrical charges, with my needs, it would be get towards a four figure sum.......UPDATE: Ok, so I was trying to be logical when I thought the laundry mode was going to use approximately twice as much energy as the middle setting, but apparently they both use the same amount of electricity. (figure that one out!) it makes the middle setting mostly redundant. In some video's/companies literature it said that it was cheaper to use this to dry clothes than a tumble dryer. A TB costs around 30-40p for a cycle albeit with perhaps no more than 4-5 kilo's of clothing. I've tried drying clothes several times, it takes several hours, although of course the smaller and drier the area the better. It took many hour, realistically it would take all night in the winter months. Lets say it takes 6 hours in laundry mode, that would cost £1.17, (after the update it would cost say 58p), but there are of course many variablesNoise - Low fan speed setting, is like a quietish computer. Some could go to sleep with it on in the same room.Other fan settings, just too noisy really, unless you have the tv on.If there is some water in the container, it could come out if you pick it up using the handle. The humidity level seems to be a bit muddled. 3 drops = 40% Humidity, 2 drops = 50% humidity, 1 drop = 60% humidity, Laundry mode = 35% humidity. You would've thought they should gone down in descending order, some may get confused about this. When I wanted to go back to low fan speed setting from the middle one, it wouldn't let me, maybe theres a bug or maybe it has to be kept on that setting for whatever reason, but after I shut it down and restarted, it seemed to work just fine.Just to state. I have two of these machines. Now would I recommend this item? thats a difficult one. It is powerful and has a air purifier with is handy. The heat by-product is great to, especially if your living in a flat or just want it for your bedroom. You wouldn't really need to use a electric/gas heater. It all comes down to the running costs. In hindsight, I would buy a compressor based humidifier but one which was the quietest in it's class. Perhaps a 20litre one as well, as a 10 litre one would be very weak as i've used the de'longhi dem10 which was very feable, ofcourse compressors work better in warmer weather, so this is where dessicant has a massive advantage over compressor.Dehumidifiers are a great invention, but this one uses just too much electricity, but I still love it. 3.5 starsupdate: uses about what I thought it did, but stil confused that it uses the same amount of electricty in medium and high (laundry) mode. Now give it 4.5 stars

Having never owned a dehumidifier I wasn't really sure what to expect with this. If you believe the marketing videos on Youtube you'd think this was an extremely quiet, dirt cheap to run bit of kit that was going to dry out your whole house. The reality is a little different, not a whole lot but a little.I started of having this in the hall and running it on medium power it was on for 8 days straight before it began to cycle on and off - target humidity of 50% was reached. We have a bog standard 90's built 3 bed semi by the way. Using a weather station I could monitor the humidity in different rooms and found the average downstairs to be about 53%, upstairs was around 55%. The hallway was 50%.I'd hate to think what the figures were before we had this running 8 days non stop. After a couple of weeks it became pretty clear that there was an issue because rather than cycling on and off it seemed to still be running the majority of the day without the humidity in the rest of the house dropping, I came to the conclusion that having this so close to the front door wasn't a great idea and we were probably drying half the street. It was moved to the landing upstairs. On the landing it operates much more how I would expect, running for a few hours each day in order to keep the humidity in all the bedrooms/bathroom to about 50-51%. Downstairs the figure hovers around 54-55% so not bad but the Meaco isn't reducing humidity in the whole house down to its set level. This isn't a big house and I'm careful to leave the doors open during the day for airflow. The other thing is that if you try running it in the lowest fan setting eco mode then it's a waste of time. At that setting ours will run 20+ hours a day. On the standard setting the unit is too noisy to have in the same room as you, at night when trying to sleep it is a noticeable hum but you will get used to it.The final thing is the cost. I don't know how this compares to other dehumidifiers but where we live we pay about 15.7 pence per unit for electricity. Now this has bedded down and is running as expected it has added about an extra 50p a day on to our electricity bill, or about £45 a quarter (according to our Owl energy monitor). I haven't had the bill yet from when we first bought it but including the initial running in period and then the few weeks where we were drying the street I'm expecting it be a bit of a record breaker.Overall then despite a bit of whinging about it not being what I would call cheap, nor the fact that it is capable of reducing the humidity in our whole house down to its target level I still think this has been a very good buy. The humidity level in the house is much reduced, we no longer get any condensation on any windows and generally the house has felt much warmer.

I've been having this for a month or more, and it's performing its job smoothly and efficiently as expected by other reviews.I'm not giving it 5 stars for a few reasons.PROs:- Very efficient, I didn't believe it was so true that you can actually leave it in the middle passage of your flat with doors open and the condensation just goes away everywhere. Ok, I'm dumb, but you don't believe it until you see it.- The air filter is very easy to clean with your vacuum cleaner set on minimum speed. VERY easy.- A good set of options. Well, with a few more it would be perfect, but it's good enough for this price range.- Efficiently drying your clothes indoor both by sucking the humidity and sending out a warm dry air flow, which if put directly under your clothes does the trick very quickly.- Sending out warm air in a One Bedroom while working, if your flat is well insulated, almost makes it unnecessary to use the heating system. It's mid-December now and we only used the heating system twice and just because of guests, so what you spend in electricity, you actually partly save in heating.- Comes with a ionizer, you can feel the air more crispy and healthy, or maybe it's just my imagination?CONs:- Not that silent, but still less noisy than its compressor counterparts.- As many already said, the water tank is quite small and needs emptying several times if you're running it 24h. Of course it will stop when full, and you can use a discharge tube to use it continuously, but I don't have the right place/setting to use that function in my flat unfortunately.- When removing the tank, which is often done several times during the day when working non-stop, you have to wait a few minutes for the vent to stop to make sure there is not too much further dripping from the discharge duct. I learnt this the hard way finding several times a small pool of water on the carpeting after coming back with the emptied tank, before I understood why.- No room humidity indicator, no display. The previous De'Longhi compressor type I was using was cumbersome, not that efficient and died soon, but had a fantastic display with all indicators. I guess you need to buy a hygrometer separately to be sure of the effective room humidity. I think this dehumidifier is not good in cellars where a specific humidity and temperature has to be maintained.

Have read lots and lots of reviews but finally decided on this particular make and model. The reviews helped me, so I hope this helps you. Ordered it yesterday - delivered this morning at 0930. Brilliant! And Amazon were also great because they wavered The Next Day Delivery charges which I inadvertently clicked (only free for Prime customers). We live for in a pre 1900, 4 bed house with 5 people. We have a 50/50 mix of double glazed and single pane windows. Turned the dehumidifier on at 10am and set it on the thumbs up/2nd fan setting. I was initially worried about what people were saying about 'noise', however we were pleasantly surprised how easy on the ears it was, even at this middle setting. The lower setting (which we will set it at in the hallway at night) is extremely quiet and would certainly be ok to have in a bedroom, if that's what you're looking for. There is that smell everyone talks about (including Meaco) and is very noticeable when we first turned it on - lasted about two hours but disappeared and although the smell returned, it was not as strong. According to my research, this odour goes altogether in about a week. Personally I'm ok with the slight smell as I know the machine is doing a very good job...and it really is doing a very good job we have already emptied it twice! We have been having lots of condensation and mould issues for some time now so I'm confident this will do the job and as most of us have allergies, it can only be a good thing. The warm air coming from the Meaco is very nice and the room is definitely warmer and as we have the door open, the hallway also feels better. I now realise why it will save money on fuel bills.Amazon reassured me of the two year warranty so all in all we're very happy we bought the Meaco. It's one of those items you initially worry about buying because of the expense but very quickly get the feeling it was well worth it.

This dehumidifier arrived at my door one day earlier than I expected and it could not have been more timely! It was the day the weather changed and we had a series of sudden, heavy showers. I knew the cellar was damp - which was the reason for ordering the dehumidifier - but I was unprepared for the gush of water that seeped through the walls causing a significant pool of water. But, by then, the humidifier had stood for an hour (as per the instruction booklet) and was turned on, chugging away, doing what it does best. It blows out warm air and makes a fair amount of noise but as it was in the cellar, I don't find it intrusive. In fact, the noise was helpful because I could hear when it stopped and needed emptying. In the first twenty four hours,I emptied the reservoir three times and it was full again by the morning. But the cellar felt warm and dry and there was no further water on the floor. Now, I guess, the dehumidifier is sucking moisture out of the rest of the house as well.So this model is doing its job, efficiently and effectively. I have no idea what it's going to cost to run it as it's only been in place for four days. But, it has already ,add a big difference. Why four stars and not five? I think I would have benefitted from having a larger reservoir. This is not the smallest model available, I deliberately chose a model with a larger reservoir. But, having to empty it so often is a pain. That said however, it is easy to empty and easy to replace and the minute it goes back, the dehydrator chugs back into action. It is small, easily portable and has clean lines of design.I have no idea whether this model will have a long life - it has a three year guarantee - so I'm hoping that it will prove to be be long-lived. It's certainly making a big difference so far.

I had my doubts whether a dehumidifier would do the job in our house which suffered from fairly bad condensation on the upstairs windows and front door, as well as some pretty bad damp patches that have gradually appeared over the last year, its an old house and not very well insulated, decided to go with this Meaco dd8l dehumidifier after doing some research of various makes and models. As i said i had my doubts whether this would help with our situation but i couldn't have been more wrong. We placed the unit on the landing and ran it on the highest fan and humidity setting for 3 days, after a few hours on running it on the first day we could notice the upstairs wasn't as cold as it usually was,the air was definitely dryer (initially we were emptying the tank up to 3 times a day), by the second day there was no more condensation on the windows upstairs on the mornings and by the 3rd day there was no condensation on the front door, we then changed the setting to the lower fan and recommended humidity setting (the one with the thumbs up icon), the unit started to go into sleep mode then as the humidity level had been reached and now it just comes on around once an hour to check the air and if all ok it goes back into sleep mode after about 5 mins, if not, the fan will run until it reached relative humidity again. Its a fantastic unit that really works, our upstairs is no longer a few degrees colder then the rest of the house and condensation and damp have vanished, highly recommend purchasing this.

I have been using this produce for a while now and now feel I can give honest feedback about it.My house suffers from 'condensation damp' since new Double Glazing was installed a few years ago, painting over it was ok for a while until we got to late Autumn/Winter when drying clothes in the house was needed and so the mould would reappear...until now!I live in a large 3 Bed Detached house and as long as the Dehumidifier is positioned in the correct place (bottom of the stairs) it will clear the whole house of condensation so no more wet window sills in the morning! It did take about 4 weeks on continuous 24 hours a day full power use to get the house down to normal humid levels but since thenit just works when it needs to (in fact we are surprised when it does need to work now).Leaving it switched on 24 hours a day it 'scans' the air every hour for a few minutes and then 'decides' if it needs to be brought in to action, if not then it goes back to 'sleep' until the next 'scan' happens. It has a few settings but the main ones are 'full power' which is advised to be used when first bought and will switch off when the house is 40% humidity, a 'standard' setting-this will bring the house to around 50% humidity which is correct for this Country then switch off and a setting which is for drying clothes in the house; this can be timer set too.Overall, a brilliant piece of kit which is better than expected!

Our top-floor flat was recently identified as having a major problem with condensation due to a lack of ventilation in the kitchen and bathroom, which led to unsightly mold growth in various rooms. The recommendation was to purchase a de-humidifier and after researching this online we decided upon this model as a WHich magazine 'best-buy'. I cannot praise it enough as it has eliminated the damp from the flat after running it solidly for 3 or 4 days. The amount of water it takes out the air, is remarkable and I would have no hesitation in recommending this product. It can easily be lifted in one hand and re-positioned anywhere in the flat.We were advised to place it in the hallway just outside the kitchen where the majority of the condensation was coming from, and there it sits happily doing it's job very effectively. We empty it of water in the morning and let it run all day, or until it decides that the amount of condensation has reached a certain level, before turning itself off. On the recommended setting, the noise from the de-humidifier is negligible but when set in laundry mode, it is quite noisy, but closing the door behind you solves that. The air filter catches a lot of fluff, etc., so needs to be cleaned once a week or so. Cleaning of the filter could not be easier. Our problems with condensation are now solved thanks to this particular de-humidifier.

This is brilliant! I did some research and read a lot of reviews on dehumidifiers, and found that I needed a desiccant one as they cope far better with cold temperatures. I wanted this for the conservatory as I had put up wooden blinds, (mainly so that the birds didn't hit the windows!), and was a bit worried when black mold was appearing on the side that faces the glass. There is a small radiator in the conservatory but not enough to keep it warm, and there are several large plants giving off moisture. On purchasing the Meaco, I was amazed at the amount of water that it sucks out of the air. There are several fan speeds and settings on this machine, and you can set it for constant, or 1-4 hours. On constant it switches itself off once the ideal moisture content in the air it reached. There is also a setting for if you are drying clothes. To empty the water well, you pull it from the bottom, at the rear of the dehumidifier. There is a lid over the well with a hole in to pour the water out. As far as effectiveness is concerned, I was able to brush the mold off the blinds after a few days. I now put the dehumidifier on for an hour a day to keep any damp away. Brilliant item.

On the plus side: works extremely well. I had a very humid ground floor Edwardian flat, with serious condensation problems on the windows, rust in the back boxes of electrical sockets on the external walls, peeling wallpaper with black mould underneath,... I tried passive moisture absorbers, which did nothing. This machine extracted about 4L of water per day, bringing the humidity down to 55%, and completely removing the window condensation. Being a dessicant design, it works well regardless of temperature. It's also great for drying a rack of clothes in winter: stick it in a closed room, turn it up to max, and your clothes will be dry in no time.On the minus side: it eats a *lot* of power.Your electricity bills will shoot up when you start using this. Now I've dried out my flat (over several months), I just use this during late autumn/early winter, when condensation is at its worst. In spring/summer, you're much better off opening a window. Other designs (i.e., non-dessicant designs) might be more power efficient. It's also not great at detecting when the target humidity level is reached, and keeps running until the air is a lot dryer than the targeted level.

An excellent piece of kit. I read all the reviews regarding other dehumidifiers on the market which all had very poor reviews, this model had the highest reviews of them all and for good reason.I switched it on straight out of the box and within a few minutes there was water in the bottom of the tray, within 3 hours of running on medium in our north facing bedroom the tray was full and the room felt warm (it's quite a large room). In the 2 days we've had it we must have emptied the full tray 4 times and that's with it just running during the day.I'm a light sleeper and live in a rural location with no noise at all at night and therefore i wouldn't like to sleep with it in the same room with it running, even on the low setting, for other people it would be ok I think. It's dead easy to use, lightweight easily moved to different parts of a large house and isn't visibly noticeable at all.I bought it as we had a bad damp problem in this north facing bedroom and it seems to have dried this up in two days.It looks pretty well made and robust enough to last.I know it's early days but My wife and i are thrilled with it and would recommend it to anyone.

Slimline, compact, but very powerful. This was bought primarily to remove condensation overnight from a conservatory, but I have started using it elsewhere too for drying laundry on racks. I chose it because it is a desiccant demudifier meaning it will still work well in cold conditions (eg, conservatory overnight). A fortunate benefit is that the air it pumps out is 10 to 12 degrees warmer than the air it takes in!I almost went for the De'longhi DEM10, but this type of dehumidifier only works in warmer rooms & it pumps out cold air.The Meaco DD8L is amazing, it extracts loads of water from damp air quickly & we have no more problems with condensation even with drying washing on racks indoors. It has lots of different settings (but is simple to use). It can dry washing very quickly on the appropriate setting. It has a timer & you can select fan speed & the desired target humidity.I am seriously impressed. I love the fact it only runs when it needs to. It senses the air & only switches on when it senses damp in the air. I think this is a good eco feature.Well worth downloading the full instructions online - just google Meaco DD8L instructions.

Having had this for a week or so I'm fairly pleased with its extraction capablities; it's very lightweight and quiet compared to compressor based dehumidifiers but the removable water container feels very flimsy indeed - the plastics here feel thin and poor quality (though the rest of the machine feels adequately built.)On the recommended setting, it's pretty unobtrusive and keeps the relative humidity down to between 40 and 50% - the humidistat doesn't seem particularly consistent but is definitely accurate enough for its purpose. The ioniser function I was slightly sceptical about but in fact I'm fairly sure that it makes a detectable difference - we are using this in a kitchen environmentand it does seem to help clear up strong cooking smells or smoke more quickly.Only time will tell how reliable it is in the long term but aside from the electricity consumption (which may reduce a little now that the humidity in our house is under control) we're pleased with it.As an aside, it's fantastic for helping to dry out washing indoors - the clothes come off the airer bone dry and stiff as a board remarkably quickly.

I am so impressed with this little machine, I must admit when I first plugged it in it was on almost constantly for around 36 hours, the amount of water it collected during that time was simply amazing, the humidity in our bungalow was always around 57% and no matter how many times windows were opened or left open during the day, we would always wake up to dripping windows, this was despite having a refridgerate dehumidifier running during the day trying to combat the humidity (it was too noisy to be left on at night). The DD8L has brought the humidity down to around 42% and it hardly comes on during the day at all now. It is left on 24hrs a day, its fairly quiet but not super quiet,we have managed to place it in the hall away from the bedroom doors. The only down side to this machine is that because it is so efficient and the water tank being fairly small, it needs emptying regularly, if you forget to empty it before going to bed and the water tank fills, you will probably be woken by its 'tank full alarm' (three or four beeps).I am pleased to say that our condensation problems have been solved.
