Having finally got central heating this year, I discovered my home is damp - not severely; no mould on the walls and such - just damp enough to make fabrics feel cold to the touch and create a "wind chill" factor in the house. I bought some 1kg crystal dehumidifiers - the boxes with bags of calcium chloride, which dissolves as it draws in moisture - and a Prem-I-Air El Poquito. I've been using them all for a week. The Prem-I-Air, running 12 hours a day, has collected roughly the same amount of liquid as the boxes. The fan makes very little noise (about the same as my laptop fan) and it's a more attractive appliance than the white plastic boxes with congealing bags inside! However,it's more expensive to buy and uses electricity, which obviously the others don't.I think the choice would be down to how much you care about appearance and conserving power. Chemical dehumidifiers are unsuitable for homes with young children, as the liquid they collect is acid. The electronic variety collects distilled water and has an automatic shut-off when disturbed, so would be the safe choice for a family home.

First the one and only negative. If you're looking for a miracle to solve your damp problem in a medium/large area then this is not for you as it's not powerful enough. Bought this for a built in wardrobe that backs onto a cold outside wall. I wondered if it might have been too powerful for such a small space (8'H/2'W/2'D) as dehumidifiers only work when doors are closed. Needn't have worried as it's been running day and night for 5/6 days and the tank is only just about full. Because it's in a bedroom plus I have very sensitive hearing, I was a bit concerned that some of the reviews though it a little noisy but it's fine. In fact I forgot to check on it for a couple of days as you're not aware of it being there. For the cost of this little machine it's going to save me a fortune in ruined clothing plus I won't need to call in a builder to put in an air brick which is not always the best solution to a condensation problem.

I didn't have a lot of expectations for this dehumidifier as it's small and inexpensive. We have a bay window in the master bedroom which is an art deco triangular shape. It was the original Crittal one which we replaced with a copy double glazed metal bay. To our surprise this still got condensation and we tried the salt reservoir dehumidifiers which collected some moisture but didn't stop the problem. Our problem always happened overnight when the curtains were closed. We plugged in this little electric dehumidifier in the evening between drawn curtains and windows. The noise it makes is low and gentle and doesn't disturb our sleep. It is effective.I've delayed leaving a review until we had well below freezing temperatures outside and it seems to have solved the problem but in our case it is only having to extract from the space within the bay with curtains closed.

I was having a serious issue with condensation in one room in my flat (single glazing) and thought excess humidity from the bathroom may have been the cause. Whilst this dehumidifier doesn't fix it completely, if I leave it on constantly it does a very good job of reducing the amount of moisture if the temperature of the room fluctuates significantly. It is usually 3/4 full after a week so I empty it then but it's crazy to think how much of that moisture could just get caught behind furniture or stay on the walls. The dehumidifier isn't particularly quiet but I have it next to my bed and it doesn't bother me too much (I like some white noise to be honest). It was far less noisy than I expected it to be based on other reviews. All in all - I'm very glad I purchased this dehumidifier. It was a fantastic price, works well and has a larger tank than most this price!

A sturdy & neat value item. Ideal for small rooms when the humidity is high it can collect about a mug full inits container, if air not damp enough it doesn't collect any of course so no use leaving on all the time.P.s. After sometime this was not collecting water anymore in 80% humidity, but fan still working. As out ofguarantee I checked it out myself. The "fault" was that the large connection to the circuit board (from thecondenser block) had tarnished contacts. You can clean with superfine emery, or a service contact spray. It hasworked well again since fixed. The only parts that can go wrong anyway are a pair of resisters (easy to test& replace) or the fan unit or a crack in circuit board, both of which may be fixable by anyone experienced. Asfor the power pack, if that breaks another with the same out put voltage (12volt/3amp)could be used.

I have a soft-top which doesn't get garaged, nuisance in wet weather if the rainproofing need a bit of attention, this is the answer - no more water dripping off the roof-lining onto my knees. It's very small, and very economical - true it doesn't like temperatures below about 8 degrees (the condensing fins ice up, but take the unit indoors for short while and it's OK again.) I'm absolutely delighted with it. It may seem that not much water is absorbed, but sometimes one's perception of how damp something is is misleading. My car is only a two seater but it works beautifully and every so often I put it in the boot to keep that dry.You have to be a bit careful of the wire - we plug an extension lead in the garage and plug the unit into that inside the car. Just us a bit of common sense.

Unpacking this item was like Russian dolls, and I was very surprised to see how small the unit was once I'd got through the Amazon packaging, the product's outer box, and the product's printed packaging. You can hold it in one hand. In operation, you can hear the fan running, but it's not distracting. The little tank isn't the easiest thing to empty, but it's not too fiddly. Removing the tank, and popping it back, in is easy enough. The plug-top mains adaptor doesn't have a particularly long cable - so you may need a mains extension cable if you want to place the unit any distance from the mains socket. I'd have given it a full five stars if the cable was longer. Browsing through Amazon, you'll see many different brands selling this unit. Don't pay more than you need to!

I purchased this product some months ago, after a period of almost constant use producing excellent results in our utility room the unit stopped working. I contacted The Friendly Lifestyle Store and outlined the problem, they replied immediately suggesting a solution. When that was not an option the asked for the item to be returned and then replaced it with a brand new item. I consider this to be excellent service, I have had similar problems like this in the past with other suppliers who just did not want to know.I recommend this product and more importantly, the supplier; The Friendly Lifestyle Store.

Ordered two of these to combat a dampness and mould problem we were getting in the master room and spare room in a 1930's house which we recently moved into. Both have been doing their jobs fantastically. Although, for us, they aren't sucking up the amount of moisture which it claims in the product spec, they are however sucking up about 0.5L in about 3 to 4 days (which for the size of the units is pretty impressive). They are pretty quiet too. We have one on our bedside table and we both sleep fine. A very slight humming sound but not enough to keep you awake.

I got this for my brother as he has really been struggling in his room (windows are all dodgy in our house) its been a week and the room is completely different! the damp smell is almost gone and it feels much fresher and less muggy in there. It collects a suprising amount of water for its size and you cant really complain about the price. Its is quite small so read to product specification before buying (it was the perfect size for the room we need it for so no complaints there!)

I bought this for £20, they are fantastic quality for the money. I have them in the bedroom to get rid of the moisture you breath out during the night. It significantly helped the room. Making it far easier to heat and overall smells better. It took out 200ml within 12hrs. Considering the room is not actually damn that is amazing! They are noisy, you wouldn't be able to sleep with it on. The fan inside is powerful, cold air goes in and warm air gets hurled out the sides.

We have been using this during the day for a week and it does suck up some moisture but not as much as I was expecting. The room is very damp and I have only emptied the tank once. It is very quiet when in use so noise is not a problem and it doesn't look hideous. I think it's probably my fault I'm disappointed, for having too high expectations, I should probably have bought a bigger unit. Live and learn, next time I won't be quite so cheap (maybe)

Small and compact. I bought this for use in a bedroom to stop the condensation on the windows. It's small size means it's easy to find space for it usually sits on a window sill or a bedside table. Due to it's size it is only capable of extracting a small amount of moisture each day but it is helping. I might buy a larger one in time but they cost a lot more and I would have trouble finding space for anything larger.

I ordered this one as a second, as I thought the 1st one from another supplier was not strong enough, which is the 32.99 version yeh, well this was terrible so I plugged this one in beside and thus one pulled more from air than the same looking 15 more expensive one, conclusion get a von haus if you after cheap small dehumidifier that just as quiet and twice the load capacity

this small dehumidifer works well both in the cupboards and on the bedroom window ledges. Windows have had to be closed due to building works and condensation was a problem so purchased this dehumidifer to clear condensation and it does. a small problem was also sorted out very quickly and proffesionally by the company, I would buy again from them.
