You can spend more and get an even more epic tripod than this, but why would you want to?I agree with the other reviewers - this is a tripod for the studio, but if you're big and strong this won't weigh too badly on you for a sturdy tripod out on location. It's not massively heavy - it just isn't dainty. This tripod means business, and isn't afraid of anyone. If there was a nuclear war that incinerated the Earth, this tripod would still be left standing at the end of it.The adjustability and build quality are fantastic. Each leg can be set, and locked in place, at individual angles. The spreader has individual settings per leg. In addition, you can lock the centre column for fast setup with all the angles set as well,so all you have to do is open it out.The locks on each leg only have to open at 45 degrees, making set up faster. If you were to open each leg to maximum extension, it would stand around 7 feet tall this tripod! The aluminium tubes are very strong, and the castings used to the tripod centre are good quality. The geared column is fantastic and smooth, and can easily lift my heavy camera gear.Everything about this tripod oozes Manfrotto battle-ship grade build quality, and if you were to combine this with a geared head and a macro slider, this would be the ultimate macro photography setup. Alternatively, combine it with a fluid head for reliable videography using either a DSLR or TV camera.Worth every penny!

Simply amazing, takes every bit of abuse thrown at it, even with the heaviest gear I own and does not budge even when a clumsy stylist trips over it or an assistant gives it an accidental kick when your framing is just set right (well maybe a tiny bit of movement - but considering every other tripod would fall over this is still commendable) its a monster. It weighs a tonne (especially paired with a 405 or a fluid head) and honestly its worth every penny. everything is precise in manufacturing and therefore in use. Levelling the tripod is easy even with heavy gear on top of it. Its infinitely adjustable, but with absolute precision even though first impression may make you believe it would be too hefty to maneuver precisely; think again every detail has been considered the leg extensions are smooth in action, the feet are adjustable, the tripod opens out with ball bearing set clicks at measured intervals which when desired can be tightened down, and every adjustable part has a similar philosophy the geared column even has a tightening mechanism to stop minute movements when your desired height is reached. Unbeatable.

I bought this tripod from a third party but I will share my experience with Amazon users. The product description and the features explanation above are correct, it is not the usual hype. This tripod is very steady and can carry a heavy load. It is also very high; I am 1.84 meters tall (6ft3") and I rarely need the extension pole. Often I do not fully extend the legs because the camera would be too high for comfortable use. The extension pole is on a wind up/down gear; this is both very precise and excellent for lifting heavy equipment.I use the tripod with the Manfrotto 393 Heavy Duty Gimbal head (also on Amazon, mine bought elsewhere). I use this with a 700mm lens and a heavy camera. The tripod is rock steady with this combination. A lesser tripod would vibrate every time I took a shot. Not suitable for trekking with; OK if you a driving to a shoot.

A superb tripod, very strong and stable and the adjustable column makes macro work so much easier. The amount of adjustment to the legs is really good and whatever position you lock this tripod in it is rock solid. The only thing to bear in mind is that it is quite heavy and I wouldn't like to carry it very far, but if you're driving to a location then that's not a problem.I've combined this with a geared head and a focusing rack and can set up for macro shots quickly and precisely. I'll be looking at whether there' a carbon fibre version fairly soon for more portability.

I needed a geared centre column tripod to provide stability for my DSLR Camera and 80mm Scope digi-scoping arrangement with the ability to easily support a 10Kg load at up to 1.8M High. This Tripod is a heavy duty, beautifully engineered product, which more than satisfies my target requirements. Although its weight makes you think twice before deciding to carry it very far, its ability to absorb vibration is a bonus when using the camera on long range shots

Super sturdy a tad heavy but still light enough to carry on a walk if you are healthy. One leg needed tightening but not a problem the centre doesn't seem to come out to mono pod but if your just after a well sturdy tri pod this is a beast.
