I have to say that I first thought I would be giving this product a bad review, because the first one I received was faulty. There was something wrong with the central mechanism, causing a malfunction with raising and lowering the arms of the dryer. However Amazon replaced it and now I can review it.It is very easy to open. I have never found a Rotary Dryer that is as effortless to open as this one is. Just grasp the red plastic end that is positioned at the lower part of the centre pole, and gently pull towards you. Up goes the centre collar and the arms of the dryer open out. Once it stops, then just grasp round the collar where the base of the arms all join on and push upwards to get to the full height.Do not do this with the pull cord, as the last part of hoisting up will put too much strain on it. There is very little manual effort required to push it up the last inch or so.Once open, the span of the arms is excellent, with the outer lines being of a good height. The cord of the lines is very thin but it feels reasonably stong, but obviously only time will tell how robust they will be.I have had 4 washing machine loads on the dryer with no problem. I have also hung out some fairly heavy mats that I washed and the line coped ok. I used the clothes pegs I already have and there was no problem on a windy day with the washing staying put. We are up quite high and get the full force of any wind but no washing flew over the fence! To close the Rotary Dryer down, the is a little red button towards the end of one of the arms. Just push that and the dryer will close down completely with the lines retracted into the arms, and the arms closed down to hug the centre pole. It all fits closely, but I feel that the unit is best then covered with a proper Rotary Dryer Cover for longevity. A light shower would possibly not penetrate too much, but the downpours we have become accustomed to, could possible be detrimental to the life of the line cords in the long term. This Rotary Dryer is certainly not cheap and like a previous reviewer, I do think that the weakness will be in the central lifting system. However if it went wrong and the dryer could be opened manually like other dryers then I suppose there would not be a problem. If the line cords got worn and subsequently broke, I do not think that they could be replaced, so that is a concern given the price of this unit.Update - 31 August 2013.Well I have really over loaded this Rotary Dryer over the weeks and it continues to perform perfectly.I had an accident at the end of May resulting in a broken wrist. It is a tribute to the mechanism of this Rotary Dryer that I was still able to use it with no problems. The easy open and easy close mechanism has been a real boon as I would not have been able to use my old Rotary Dryer in these circumstances. This really is an excellent product.Further Update - 14 May 2014I have had this Rotary Clothes line over a year now and it continues to work the same as the first day I used it. The lift open and close mechanism has continued to be reliable and the lines too are in excellent condition. I do ensure that after use the Rotary Clothes Line is always shut down and then covered with a good quality cover. I think this is important given that the lines are not plastic covered like those on most rotary dryers. This Leifheit has continuing quality.AND ........ Well we are now at the end of September 2014 and I am delighted to say that this Leifheit Rotary Clothes Line continues to be in the same condition as it was the day I received it. Trust me it gets very well used every week with full washes containing some heavy items. It is still giving a great performance and is so easy to use and I think it is just brilliant. I still think it is the best Rotary Dryer that I have ever had.AND . . . . . . . January 2016 and hundreds of washing machine loads later and this trusty Rotary Dryer is still the excellent work horse now that it was when I first used it.AND ......... March 2017 and this Rotary Dryer is as good as when I first got it. It gets so much use and for the most part is completely full, or not far off. It really is BRILLIANT!February 2019 - and still this wonderful Rotary Dryer is as good as ever!

Leifheit say that this is their ‘best ever’ clothes dryer and I can see why. I have been fortunate to review other Leifheit products and I can see that they have pursued a continuous pathway of product improvement.Picture the scene, if you will, of the nice Spring day, complete with a bit of sunshine and a few warm swirls of wind. Even a weedy chap like me has no problem in getting this dryer from the garage and slotting it into the (note the 50mm diameter) ground socket. There it stands a little taller than the previous one I reviewed but this dryer will offer, a large sporty family accommodating, 60 m of drying line. It looks, at first glimpse,a bit like a smooth obelisk standing there as all the lines are contained within its smooth exterior shell of advanced materials (Aluminium and high-grade plastics) – just waiting for a signal from a moon orbiting Jupiter in order to activate – or, this not being available, one can simply pull on the little red handle and it begins to open like a rather large exotic plant just waiting to embrace the rays of the sun and the currents of wind. Up it comes as one gently pulls on the red toggle and the arms click into place and it is now ready for action. The whole process is smooth and precise, just as we have come to expect with German-engineered products - and this is no exception. The whole thing is light and easy to deploy and yet feels robust and dependable. I see that it shares the 3-year guarantee of previous offerings and one gets the impression that this will not be tested. Indeed, this is why I would recommend the optional (available from Amazon at extra cost) screw-in socket rather than the one that comes with it that has to be concreted-in as this is the sort of dryer that will be with you for many years and the screw-in socket allows you to move it around the garden or even to a new house. The other point of note is the new release mechanism. It used to be a simple catch that one would loop one’s finger through and pulling this would then allow the dryer to collapse and as it does so the drying lines are completely taken up, courtesy of the sliding-weight system within the stem of the dryer, into the frame completely so they are not subject to either dirt or trauma. This dryer has, in addition, a new little red catch that in turn one pinches and this activates a sliding rod that similarly unlocks the release and allows the dryer to fold to its compact state. The four arms of the dryer, which are of aluminium, also have larger ‘u’ shaped gutter pieces in cool green plastic attached to them along their entire length, which are much wider than the other models. The reason for this becomes apparent when one folds it away as the gutters abut together precisely meaning that even the cords that lift the mechanism are retained within the smooth obelisk-like exterior and will keep dust and dirt away from the whole assembly.Of course, there are less-expensive offerings available. Any DIY-warehouse or large supermarket will be able to offer you lower quality and cheaper options. I suspect, however, for those of you out there who are looking for a prince among men of dryers that may well be the last dryer you’ll need to buy, then it’s worth every penny. Many thanks.

First things first- you will need a lot of room for this rotary drier as it is huge. It's sheer size means that it can cope with those really busy days when the sun shines and you decide to wash all the bedding. The lines are a cord like material and vary in size, increasing as they go up the arms towards the outside. On the smallest arm I can easily fit 2 t.shirts sitting side by side with no overlap, on the very outer arm I can put a double duvet cover. Each cord is spaced well to ensure that all items dry and whilst the outer items do dry faster then the inner items these still get plenty of air flow to ensure that they too dry.I start off on the inner cords and work outwards,I find that by the time my next wash is done ( between 45/60mins) this is enough of a head start to get all the items on the drier dry at the same time allowing me to bring all the washing in together.Allowing 10m of line per washer load this drier will allow you to dry a whopping 6 loads at once- weather permitting of course.Use;;;;;;;;Putting the arms up and down is easy, the cord runs smoothly and retracts away after use to ensure it doesn't snag up and cause problems. The aluminium frame is light enough to allow you to move it around without issue,I keep mine in the shed during the wet and cold weather and put it out to use- I can do this easily without help, though it is long / tall ( well above my head height) so it can be a bit cumbersome. The post provided needs to be cemented into place to ensure things are safe ( during windy weather this really flies round and if it is full- especially with things like sheets and towels it does look like it could take off ).As someone who always used a washing line before getting this I was wary of the items not drying as well on a rotary drier but I am now well and truly converted.I like being able to fold this away and have my garden back.I like the way that the lines are tucked away inside the arms and so keep clean, ready for my washing.I like being able to securely hang my hangers out on this.I fact the only thing I wasn't overly impressed with was the base, I wasn't sure where would be the best place for this dryer and as my garden may change and areas be used for different things I wanted to be able to move the socket into which this stands rather than have one cemented in as a permanent fixture so I bought the screw in socket from the same company, this works well and I have moved it around, particularly when I was finding the right spot for this.

I live in an upper flat with a reasonably small back lawn and I've struggled with drying clothes in the past chiefly because i) I'm a bloke and can't be bothered to hang out washing; ii) I frequently change clothing and any washing line I put up would only be able to dry a fraction of them.So I've soldiered on, washing clothes piecemeal, and using a dryer that hangs over the bath. This is both limiting and thoroughly inefficient. All this has changed however with the arrival of the Leifheit rotary dryer. Truly, when this baby arrived I couldn't believe the dimensions of the thing! It's made of quality aluminium however, and therefore isn't as heavy as you'd imagine.Once I'd erected it (ooh, missus!) - quite a job in itself, I might add; and in fact, have - I spread out the `arms'* and got to work in the kitchen with my washing machine. Three full cylinder loads later I was able to hang all of the washing out and it dried much more speedily than the dryer over the bath affair. Some churlish persons may point out that I'd have got much the same effect with a much cheaper outdoor drier, but that's beside the point. This is a substantial bit of kit that feels good and solid and should last for years. Try and get THAT from an alternative costing thirty-odd quid.I won't bore you with dimensions - you can read those above - nor will I mention that aluminium doesn't rust and therefore won't mark your clothes (oh, I HAVE mentioned it!)Once your drying is finished you can simply leave it in the ground, fold down the `arms `* and you have most of your lawn space free again. Except for a ruddy great device sticking out of it, of course. So, other than pointing out that you have to purchase the wherewithal for fitting it into the ground and that this model is fairly expensive, I can't imagine anybody wealthy enough to buy this item being disappointed with its appearance and/or performance.* based on their actual shape, this word is probably entirely inappropriate, but heck, I'm a guy, y'know?

Leifheit rotary washing lines are much, much better than the cheaper steel efforts you can buy, but they're also much more expensive. The version with the 60 metres of line needs a clear 12-foot circle, ideally a bit more to allow for clothes blowing around (I've included a photo of the line on my lawn, which is just under 4 metres across). You also need a bag (or if you want to do it properly two bags) of post concrete mix and perhaps a little sharp sand to provide drainage at the bottom of the hole. The 50mm post holder is tough plastic, and it needs to be fixed in concrete: there is no spike. It has a captive cover, so it is unlikely to fill up with stones.So.What makes this washing line so good that it's worth the extra? Well:1) The washing line is made of aluminium, so it is very light, and doesn't rust.2) The line is completely protected from the elements when the line is down (it disappears inside the arms), so it doesn't get wet or dirty.3) It is very easy indeed to pull the cord to open the line, and even easier to press the button to collapse it down again (I've included a couple of pictures to show this).4) The clothes line is tough synthetic cord, not plastic-coated line like you get on some cheaper rotary lines.4) Despite the chemical green colour, it actually looks rather good, so it you're lazy like me and can't be bothered to put it away, it doesn't make the garden look untidy.I've been using Leifheit washing lines for a few years now. They are robust, and are showing no signs of wearing out. No rust on the metalwork and no dirt on the line means clothes stay clean while they're drying. The only slight problem is needing to concrete in the post holder, but then you get a much more stable post compared with using a spike.

The first thing that any potential buyer should know about this product is that it's absolutely huge! Honestly, that's my top line message - the diameter is simply enormous so check any garden measurements prior to hitting the 'order' button if you please. That said, I have a pretty wide garden - it's a semi-detached house with attached garage, so that gives you some idea of just how gargantuan this dryer is. I am looking out at my garden now and it's dominating a whole patch of it.To install it both my hubby and my father had to journey to B&Q and purchase the requisite sized spike but now it's in the ground all's well. To open the dryer you'll need to pull the red tab up and out and to close,it's the same. it folds down nicely into itself but doesn't come with a cover, more's the pity and at this price, you'd think that it would, wouldn't you? It would be a nice touch anyway. The drying capacity is vast - the average family washing machine could fit three to four loads on there, should you wish to do that. However, unless your family live down a coal mine, are excessively messy or indeed you take in washing as a laundress you're unlikely to require this. I can however state that it's wide enough to take a king sized sheet and duvet cover fairly easily. So - why a 4* and not a 5* rating then SilentSinger? Well, it's all down to the slippery surface of the lines for me and all of my washing concertinas/rucks up as a result. I use Lakeland soft grip pegs but they're not enough to counteract this and it's a complete pain. I have read that Brabantia sell their own pegs, but why should I be forced to purchase these? Hmm. Maybe I should attack each one with an emery board? Food for thought, but it's a huge problem for me anyway.

A lot of thought has gone into the design of this airer which you would expect given the premium pricing. A feature that Leifheit promote heavily is the line retraction system whereby, on retraction, the lines retract automatically into the folding arms, thus preventing the lines getting dirty. Ingenious and effective but if you use a rotary drier cover, the benefits would be limited. Each carrying arm does also have two two hooks to hang coat hangers from. The arms themselves are very easy to fold/ unfold and the airer has a long 60 m of drying line. That is great but also means that this is a big airer and might be too big for some with smaller gardens. Do check the overall dimensions and remember that in windy conditions, you need some extra space to allow washing to blow freely. The Leifheit comes with a simple plastic ground peg for setting in concrete if you so wish. In softer ground such as lawns you will need to buy a longer 50mm ground spike. Our experience is that you have to be careful with your choice of spike. For instance, an existing Brabantia 50mm ground spike could not easily accommodate the leifheit and still easily permit it to be lifted out. We therefore ordered the Leifheit screw in spike that worked satisfactorily but it was frustrating given that you would assume that a standard 50mm spike would work and it is another expense that perhaps you wouldn't expect. All in all, this is a very capable and well made drier but quality comes at a price and it is a judgement call as to whether this is justified for your family. Difficult to assess durability yet but previous experience of a Leifheit drier was positive with no issues after many years.

Over the years, we have had a number of rotary clothes lines, and experience has shown that the cheaper ones are poor value for money. Our previous line was a very substantial piece of equipment, but was heavy, and difficult to open and close. It was due for replacement and the Leifheit Linomatic Deluxe Rotary Clothes Line seemed to fit the bill perfectly. It arrived packed in heavy duty polythene and, despite its size, it is not too heavy. On removing the packing, the first thing of note was that the 50 metres of line were neatly tucked away behind the arms, keeping them away from the weather when not in use.The installation instructions said that the ground socket should be mounted in concrete, which was not unexpected but, as an alternative, there is also a custom ground mount that screws into the ground. To save the trouble of digging a hole and mixing concrete, I decided to purchase one from Amazon. In the event, this didn't prove satisfactory (see separate review) and I had to revert to plan A.Having waited a few days for the concrete to set, I mounted the line and pulled the cord to open the line. The arms raised smoothly and easily and locked into place without problems. The 50 metres of line were more than adequate for our use and the washing dried quickly and evenly as the whole structure rotated in the wind.Lowering the arms after use was also very easy and the lines retracted easily behind them. When purchasing the ground mount I also purchased a custom cover (see separate review) which adds further protection from the weather. This is undoubtedly the best rotary line we have ever had and I'm sure it will give us many years of service.

A while ago I had a `tidy dry' and loved it, until the children broke it by spinning it around at top speed... I changed to stringing up a long rope between two trees (stone age style) so I was pleased to have a chance to try this Rolls Royce version. It is the largest they make so do check your outdoor space is able to accept such a grown up version. At just over two metres square it is a giant. On receiving the item I was impressed at the lightweight rustproof aluminium construction and the very simple method of operating the Leifheit. Advice is offered as a good place to site your dryer, which common sense dictates as being preferably in a sunny spot unobstructed by trees and bushes.Do first follow their instructions to make a concreted in home for the mounting socket, which comes with a cap top to close when not being used, it only has to stick up high enough for you to allow you to flip shut the holder. Then leave the cement to cure for a couple of days before inserting the pole and hanging out the loads of laundry. When you want to hang out your washing, you only to pull on the red cord release to elevate the arms. You can stand in one spot and fill the lines, moving it around when each section is full. Ordinary pegs will do but soft touch ones are offered from Leifheit, also a protective sleeve, small item hanger and a twist in centring ground base unit. You might well need the new clothes pegs as this line is a braided cord not a thick rope, so your old pegs might be stretched, their own soft touch ones which are made to use on the lines are

This is my second Leifheit Rotary Washing line they are the best I've ever had, I look after two disabled people as well as my 8 grandchildren when they visit at weekends so I have loads of washing. The airers have a huge drying area (60metres) and hold a least four washer loads from my 9kg washer. The only problem is that I run out of pegs before I run out of space on the lines. The airer doesn't have any excess packaging, it is wrapped in plastic with a polystyrene top and bottom to protect the arms. The locating post is attached to the bottom of the airer and is easy to remove, it is made of very strong plastic and has a plastic cap that can be used to cover the hole to keep it clear. You have to dig a hole in the ground and it is best cemented in, (Leifheit poles have a larger circumference than other rotary arirers so you will have to replace other types with this one). The washing lines are cleverly concealed within the aluminium arms which keeps the lines clean and protected and not hanging loose and looking a mess like other models I've had.To open the lines you simply pull a red handle attached to a cord until it locks in place. To close the line you simply pull a catch and the lines slide inside the aluminium arms as it closes up.You have to purchase a cover separately to keep the airer protected from the elements but it is very light and easy to take out of the locating socket if you keep it indoors.I can highly recommend this airer, I love mine.

The first thing you notice about this rotary line is the size of it - it's huge! Even when in the original packaging it is a long item, but it's incredibly light. My older and considerably smaller airer is far heavier than this.To install it you need to dig and set the base in concrete. I already had a base installed but its too narrow for this which requires a wider hole for the pole, I used postcrete which is just a readymixed and very fast drying concrete mix designed for fenceposts. One in, I'm very impressed, the span of this thing is massive and I can easily fit a huge load of washing on here to dry, it moves freely without spinning wildly and the arrangement of the line means that it doesn't tangle and twist. It's easy to collapse and raise using the dedicated mechanism. The actual lines store inside the arms which means that they won't dangle and get dirty - there's no point putting clean clothes on a dirty washing line.Although this is light, this is very sturdy and feels as though it is incredibly well engineered. In a nutshell: this costs more than your average rotary airer, but for the extra cost you get a strong light airer with an amazing amount of drying space. If you don't have a large family or do a large amount of washing then a smaller rotary airer would suffice, but I have 5 kids and this is brilliant for drying large batches of clothes or bedding.

This has several benefits over our 14-year-old John Lewis own-brand dryer although I should add that the latter still looks near-new, with no signs of rust or damage. Both dryers are lightweight aluminium but the Leifheit is easier to erect and fold away, with its pull-cord system, and does a really neat job of folding the lines into the arms, when not in use. In addition, the Leifheit has longer arms and so does a better job of separating the washing, making the line more usable. The JLP has 50m line vs. the 40m of the Leifheit and yet is slightly smaller across the arms, so the extra 10m are of little value because the lines are close together and never all get used.No socket is supplied witheither of them but that's fine with me and seems sensible - many people already have a socket and would object to paying a hidden cost for a new one they didn't need. They are widely available on Amazon and elsewhere. Ours (stainless steel) screws into the lawn and hasn't budged over the years. It is a 50mm socket - perfect for the Leifheit - and has an insert to take it down to 45mm for the JLP (new JLP dryers seem to be 50mm though).Whether it's worth paying a higher price for the benefits of the Leifheit over the JLP is debatable. Over 14 years, the extra is pretty insignificant and I think you'll be glad you paid it, but I've still docked one star for the high price.

As per the title, this replaced an existing identical model that had given over 15 good years of service, and, whilst still usable though a little tricky to get the lines to retract, was only really finished off by being left open for 9 months of the worst winter weather due to a number of personal events, causing the lines to become too dirty and mildewed to clean. Can't complain given the time we've had it!The current model seems to be of near identical construction to the 15 year old one, except the green plastic is now a continuous shaped piece and complete encloses the unit when shut, removing the need for a cover. The aluminium and plastic form an extremely strong combination.A velcro strap would be a nice addition to completely secure it when closed.Very easy to erect and collapse, even for my partner who is only 4ft 11in, and takes a LOT of washing, or a super king size wet duvet draped over the top which was its first use when we received it today (fitted straight into old identical socket from the previous one).I fully expect this one to have a similar lifespan to the previous one, so it's actually cheap even at the relatively high price.Probably the best rotary airer on the market in my opinion!

We Got the Auto close washing line, it came in new easy to handle and a good standard of packaging. Once opened, there was little imagination needed to use it. It came with a plastic base pole holder which seems sturdy and has a handy cap to keep out the dirt and rain once set in the ground. We decided to set this in concrete; a 8 inch square hole around 18 inches deep, which does the trick. It comes supplied with a plastic scabbard so the line can be removed and stored away from the hole.It comes with a pull tab which opens and sets the lines perfectly with no tangling of the lines. A handy button when pressed, closes the lines, again with no tangling. My only concern is that over time there could be issues with the mechanism breaking (however build quality is good), but the line could be used manually. The hard outer casing seems robust and keeps out the elements when closed so hopefully no more line marks from dirty lines! Unfortunately the one thing you can’t do is be lazy with the pegs as the auto retracting lines leaves them lying on the grass. This is great for those with a large family it’s very versatile. Can hold 2 -3 loads of washing with ease. Expensive, but recommended.

As one would expect, this isn't one of the smallest of products which Amazon sell and so unless you have a reasonable sized back garden, this probably isn't the most ideal washing line. I do believe that Leifheit make a smaller version, however I'm not sure how much smaller that it would be.The washing line would appear to be good quality and doesn't take much effect to put up and down. The only part which you may require a competant tradesperson for is the installation of the base, which requires laying of a foundation and pouring of concrete. On the other hand, if you are reasonably confident at doing DIY, it shouldn't be the most challenging of jobs. When the washing line is closed, all the lines are enclosed inside a plastic cover, presumably to help keep them clean. However, this isn't water or air tight, and so there is always going to be a problem with insects and damp getting into it, even when it is closed. Hence, the solution is going to be the same as every other line, and that is to clean it before use!Overall, a very decent washing line for the money.
