i loved the original Lego Star Wars game. It was incredibly fun, very replayable and had a wicked sense of humor. Lego Star Wars II is just as fun, and covers Episodes IV-VI!It's very rare to find a game that kids can play, adults can play, and everybody truly loves it. This is one of those games. I'm sure kids enjoy the game quite a lot - but pretty much every adult gamer I know loves this series as well. It's fun, it has classic scenes from the Star Wars movies done in a VERY funny style, and you can keep replaying it. You can play it with friends! You can unlock new episodes, new ships, new characters, you name it.The first thing you notice when you enter the "Cantina" is that now you can MAKE NEW CHARACTERS!!!Yes, you can mix up Darth Vader's head, Princess Leia's torso and a stormtrooper's pants. You can mix pretty much any character you find in the game, and give them personalized names! Then you can bring 2 of your creations into the game with you on free play mode. Talk about fun!!The game gets even better. Yes, you work through all the classic scenes - Luke buying the droids, the Death Star blowing up, and so on from the "first 3 movies" (in release order at least). The cut scenes are VERY funny. Being able to play along as the various characters is amazingly fun in story mode, and even better in "free play" when you can randomly switch between a variety of characters to find all the hidden items.I love the stud finding system. You want more money? Just replay a mission a few times. You can get all sorts of fun "cheats" (not cheats, really, but fun add-ons), you can buy new characters to use, and much more. It really gives you incentive to keep playing. Is a youngster in the house having trouble playing? Just have an adult pop into the game for a while to help out, then the adult can pop out again, to let the child keep playing! It is just brilliant. I love this game. The graphics are superb, as last time, with little lego movements seeming just right. Their swaggers and sliders are incredibly funny. The sound, of course, is the real movie soundtrack and is superb. You couldn't ask for anything better.Even the tiny touches are funny. If C-3PO starts getting hit, he loses an arm, then another arm, then a leg. You have him hopping along valiantly behind you, trying to remain with your team. Chewie rips off arms from stormtroopers. Now of course, there are always a few things the game designers get wrong. While Chewie's arm-ripping is quite funny, it is REALLY annoying when he does it - very slowly - in the middle of a firefight when you wanted him to be blasting away. The characters automatically switch into close combat mode if they think someone is nearby, even if you really needed to fire away at someone with the blaster. Even more annoying, if you're blasting away at "destructables" (wall items, whatever) and your friend gets near you start bashing on him!The camera is also really annoying. You get a *slight* amount of view control, but not much. When you are craning around trying to find a mini-kit on the screen and the camera keeps swooping wildly exactly where you do NOT want to look, it can get very frustrating.Still, these are minor problems in a game that is so stellar. I highly, highly recommend this game for any gamer of any age. It's incredibly fun.

I mostly use my Mac for web surfing, email, and working with documents, and have used a PC for many years for all my gaming needs from shooters to RTS. Unfortunately the Mac has always been notorious to childish imps like myself for being crap for games! So, given that I was getting a bit bored of seeing the same movies on airplanes I decided to give my Mac another chance and got this to try out. I played this on a Macbook 2.2ghz dual-core with 2gb of memory, so your mileage may vary.If you're not familiar with the concept of Lego Star Wars it's a charming 3-D platform game where you control a lego figure modelled on a Star Wars character. They interact in a world made entirely out of lego, where the currency is studs and a stray laser beam causes enemies to pop into their composite pieces. It's a very colourful, animated, and frenetic world where scenery is destructable and the emphasis is on fun over any semblance of realism.Puzzles generally consist of killing enemies and solving simple puzzles that require you to jump platforms or build things out of lego. On paper that sounds absolutely dull as dishwater. In practice though, there you are running down the corridors of the Death Star blasting at stormtroopers, building yourself a little laser turret to shoot at them or slashing at airvents to find hidden treasure behind. There are lots of cute comedy moments scattered around the place such as the ability to pick up stormtroopers with a giant crane and hurtling them off of balconies, or that C3PO gets his leg blown off and has to hop everywhere. Because this is a licensed Lucasarts product the production values are superb; all the sound effects and music are spot on, but it's had just the right amount of silliness injected into it.I personally haven't found many aspects to be all that challenging so it's a great little game to play on long journeys; I wasn't sure I'd sit down at my computer at home and play it for hours when I first got it but this weekend I was sat in front of my laptop in to the wee hours, swearing I'd finish after just one more chapter. There's some good replayability too in that you can go back through the levels with unlocked characters to unlock various new secrets and to play the game in a different way. It's not going to add decades to its lifespan or anything but it adds a different element to it and makes the tasks like collecting powerups more meaningful. If I had one criticism it's that the controls are a little awkward on a keyboard, this game clearly wants to be played with a joypad but who's going to bring one of those along with them with a laptop? Finally, if you do get this for your home iMac, especially if you've got kids, it's useful to know there's a cooperative play mode so two can play at the same time. I couldn't quite persuade anyone to sit that close to me for two of us to play on a laptop screen, but it looks like it'd be fun!

This game is unusual: the genre is a "space-opera/shoot 'em up/blow 'em up/sci-fi satire using lovable plastic figures/puzzle/gotta get them all" mixture. (Although this leaves out some important aspects, you probably get the idea). There are very few games that I love unconditionally, and this has now joined the list. (Others include "Thief I/II/III", "Civilization II", "Goldeneye", "Nethack", if you care). Many games are great, but have some irritations that make me think: "That was great but I don't think I'll play that again."Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy (LeSWIITOT) is not like that. I'll be getting it out of the attic in 5 years' time, and playing it again.Why?- it's so easy to play; the gameplay takes about 30 seconds to learn, but the game is still challenging- there is enjoyable, but not brain-mangling, puzzle solving which practically forces you to replay each chapter several times, each time discovering more surprises and fun- it's hilariously funny; cut scenes are close to the original Star Wars movies, but they all have subtle and not-so-subtle visual gags for fans to fall about laughing at- it's cuter than kittens in knitted bootees: the Lego characters are very much like 2-year old kids. They bounce around all over the place grinning, shouting and breaking things, and enjoying every moment. (Although you don't need to change their nappies).- it's such a great concept; normally, "concepts" wear thin pretty quickly, but this one is so well formed and thought through that it is seamless. Who can possibly have thought of combining Star Wars and Lego people, and is he/she receiving the counselling they so clearly need?- there is so much here. I haven't finished it yet, but to play through and unlock every feature, secret, character, mini-mission, and secret level will take a couple of months of my evening play sessions.Despite the ease of play, the comedy, and the focus on unlocking things, the game is immersive, challenging enough for gamers of many different tastes.I recommend this game so much that you should buy a PS2 if you don't have one, just to play it.Now, what other "concept" games can they bring out? Sticklebricks "War and Peace", Mr Potato Head "The Ipcress File", Shoe box "Americas Cup Ocean Racing"...

Very very good game for my kids (10 and 7) who like me are big fan of Lego and Star Wars.Very numerous levels so a durable play (they still are playing with it since several months) a lot of hidden items to search and pick, they can rerun levels to earn more and choose the acquired heroes / vessels to play with it The cooperative mode is well done but you need to stick together. LST III adds more liberty on this issue.A lot of humor, I like very much the Lego interpretation and the possibility of playing fully in the universe of the 3 original films.Graphics are very well done. Also the "power" required from PC do not need to be a killer one so it can run on even "old" hardware which really nice (like an HP Mini 200 netbook). No issue on using Windows 7 64bits. Controllers are automatically recognized, especially the Microsoft XBox 360 controller pads. In fact I choose this game and those controllers for my kids so tehy can easily play on my laptop. They say they play on XBox, which in fact from their experience is true (I can plug easily my laptop to my TV / hi-fi system) :-)One issue on the game thought: the levels are quite long to complete, circa 1 hour, and there is no mid-run save. So one has to complete the level if not everything is lost. Very frustrating for my kids and unnerving for me when I call for a stop. So I need to take this account when giving the authorization to play. Helas in LST III has not been solved yet. So please Lego Dev team do incorporate this facility in next gen of your games. This will be the cherry. For my part, I like more to play with my kids to LST II than to LST III, has action is bit less "too much" that in LTS III, i.e there too much elements in motion in LTS III to my taste, and I have difficulties to manage the split screen facility in LST III. Also I prefer the original trilogy ;-)My kids like both titles and do still play with both of them (I have put an extra DVD player so they can switch from game as they wish). So a highly recommended game.As always with game like this, beware of the possible addiction to it, and be strong to force the kids out of it. Implementing the parental controls schemes especially the session connection allowed hours is a good help.

A few years ago, a mate of mine raved to me about Lego Star Wars I on the PS2, telling me I had to buy it, it was amazing etc etc. It wasn't I didn't believe him, it's just I was busy playing Vice City or something and in the end, forgot about it.Wind forward to a couple of Christmas's ago, and, as you always get rubbish presents when you're older, I got myself a copy of Lego Star Wars II on the PS2. I spent virtually the whole of the Xmas break glued to it, collecting everything I could, trying to complete all the extras, spending every spare moment, controller in hand.I liked it so much, when I got myself a PSP, I also got myself a copy of this on the PSP and, it's just as good,if not better. You play through all three of the original films, 6 levels per film, making 18 all together. Most of them are character based where you wander about, shooting things, blowing things up, building things, solving puzzles and generally having a blast. You play as a small handful of characters and can switch between them to do different tasks (R2D2 can open special "droid" doors, Obi Wan can use the Force for example). Some are vehicle based where you drive or fly round doing the same thing, personally I'm not keen on these ones but, horses for courses I suppose.Once you finish a level in "story mode", you can replay it in "free play", but as any combination of characters you like - want to be Darth Vader? You can be (once you unlock him later in the game). A lot of the characters have special powers and can access areas others can't, opening up new bits of the game.In each level there are 10 hidden items to find and a bonus red brick - you collect these to unlock extras such as special weapons, extra damage and other goodies. But there's still more to keep you coming back and replaying again and again and again. One of my fave bits is to build your own character with unique abilities - I love my custom Luke with special "dark force" powers."Why", as my girlfiend continually asks when I'm playing this, "are you playing a game for kids?""Because it's Lego AND it's Star Wars" I answer. She just looks at me blankly.I think that sums it up nicely - buy it. Now. Twice, in case one copy gets damaged.

The 1st Lego star wars was a great blast and was more fun than the 3 films it was based on.Here the programmers at Travellers tales have really gone to town and introduced some subtle new angles.Keeping the countless Star wars fans happy is an impossible task but this is surely about as close as anyone is going to get while keeping the whole thing fun and playable. It was tempting to drop the game a star because in all honesty it is just a spruced up version of the first, but why change what aint broke?Launched straight into the opening scene of A new hope you find yourself hoofing it around your spaceship, blasting away and hunting for pieces. The characters are great fun,all with some humour thrown in and varying abilities,(the 1st time princess leia's guards start hunting around for their blaster can cost you dear),. There is a huge variety of levels and sub-levels to be explored, all stretched versions of the original films. The pace is quick throughout and the characters seem more free to wander than in the 1st game. They also seem to have more to do with the lego theme being more pronounced, more vehicles to use and you have to keep going back to use different people to unlock sub-levels.The look of the whole thing is very polished and some of the video scenes are very funny,( Leia using R2D2 like a bin being just one),.I suppose for the experienced gamer this may all just be too easy, after all you have endless lives and though you will be left scratching your head on occassion as to what to do next, you know it'll come to you eventually. But this game's not about the level of challenge presented but rather the amount of fun you can squeeze into one disc and it's here that all 5 stars are earned. I have played this,(like the 1st one), with my daughter and I've got to say the 2 player game is flawless. Neither of us are really gamers but an hour or 2 of hairing around as a star wars character either subtly using 'the force' to open things or re-arrange them or blasting seven bells out of anything that moves is a real laugh. We love this and you will too, yes it's relatively easy and as daft as a brush but it's great fun, after all it's only a game.

This is a game which allows you to escape from the captive Blockade Runner, traverse the crowded streets of Mos Eisley, take on the lumbering AT-ATs in a snowspeeder and fight your way through Jabba's dusty palace- but in Lego! You play through the original trilogy, with 6 chapters within each film. In story mode, each level has you playing alongside 2-4 other characters, allowing for cooperative play with a friend. In the first level for example, you can be playing as Leia, whilst player 2 is accompanying you as R2-D2. There are so many various characters in the game, but many of these are only playable in Free Play mode (where you can replay levels to obtain all hidden objects and can be whoever you want). As well as the obvious main stars, other unlockable characters include Greedo, Bib Fortuna, Sandtrooper, Tusken Raider, Boba Fett, IG-88 and many many more. Each character has certain abilities, which is useful in finding all hidden content in the game. The game's levels are surprisingly lengthy and remain accurate to the Star Wars universe, yet still provide some Lego uniqueness. Within some of the levels, you can come across and use vehicles- from AT-STs and Landspeeders to Banthas and Tauntauns. Certain levels have you piloting a vehicle for the entire mission and these can sometimes be difficult. Examples of these type levels include you flying snowspeeders to defend Hoth and piloting X-Wings down the hazardous trenches of the Death Star. Personally I prefer the land missions and these include several puzzles and hidden secrets to discover. Several objects are destroyable and provide you with coins which act like money for purchasing new characters for example. You're also challenged to reach a high amount of coins in each level and collecting is enjoyable.Overall, this is a great game with its own humourous take on the original Star Wars films. It is a game that challenges you to find, collect and unlock everything until you reach 100% and yet still you find replaying levels fun. There are lots of various characters to play as and vehicles to use, making this one of the best games of 2006 that is enjoyable for all ages.

Genius is the only word you can describe this game. The people at LucasArts (the creators) have come up with the best Star Wars game ever, even better than the first Lego Star Wars. Not only it is fun and has loads of characters and extras to unlock, but there are new features to the game which you don't get in the original. So what are these new features, you ask? Firstly, you get to play as vehicles in the veichle mission and when you complete a battle based mission, for example Battle of Hoth, you get a vehicle which for the Hoth battle is the snowspeeder. If you have the original Lego Star Wars trilogy on the same memory card you can transfer them on to Lego Star Wars 2.So you can play as Darth Maul in The Return of the Jedi levels in Free Play mode. The best one of the new features though is the create a character mode, where you could put Boba Fetts helmet with Leia's bikini body with Lando's cape and Vader's Lightsaber and call him Mr Ducky.Lego Star Wars the game is still simple but harder to completeas the minikits, which are basically canisters where you create mini vehicles to see outside the cantina, are a lot harder to find and to get true jedi status is hard as there are a lot less studs. Game comletion has changed from the amount of studs to percentage and if you complete story mode you only complete 30% of the game. There are still two modes to each mission Story or Free Play, for example in the first level of a New Hope you can only play as Princess Leia or Captain Antilles in stroy mode, but on free play you can play as an ewok. Two unfortunate areas of the game is that there is no online mode to the game. The other is that it's only up to two player since there is no multitap function, but less players mean you can play as more characters like R2-D2 if the robot isn't being used.Overall, this has just gone one step better than it's award winning prequel. This has still loads of freshness about despite it being sequels, wwhich means it's still a lot of fun to play. Great game for all ages and this game truly makes you feel like a five year old kid again.

My son (10) saved his pennies knowing this title was to be released. He thinks it is great (and it is). The storyline is a bit different to the first Lego StarWars with a few different characters and plenty of them. There is no android General Grevious as the storyline loosely follows the first 3 films (IV to VI), so you get cuddly Ewoks and a token Wookie this time. It's pretty much more of the same though (Lego StarWars I) which is rather good as the original was great anyway. The game works very well on the PS2. Lego PC based games like RockRaiders, Island and AlpaTeam are always great but seem to crash regularly, none of that here. You can select and now even make your characters - and you don't have to have Jedi powers to make things move/open.As before single player mode is great fun. This time you can also build, or occasionally jump into, vehicles and drive them about. Plus you can man gun emplacements. Sometimes a cheeky Lego guy nicks the one you have built before you use it. You even get to fly your fighter & destroy the Death Star - although strangely it comes after dispatching the evil Sith Emperor & the 'Stop Luke & listen, I am your father' bit. It's all not quite as believable as the superb 'real action' StarWars Battlefront II, as the characters and sets are cute Lego pieces. It does mean the fighting has a very non-violent feel for youngsters as the Lego pieces just break up when hit, rather like paintball - so that's great for little ones (I would say 4+). This Lego based nature of the characters and sets leads to great exploding brick animation. As before the two player mode is first rate (almost as good as 'Incredibles, Rise of the Underminers'). There is also the fun 'give him a slap' mode when you get close (and often you get the annoyed character slapping you back if it's a 'friend'). The clever jokey humour runs through the game, rather like the films. Yes, The Force is strong in this one. Highly recommended.

The original Lego Star Wars covering chapters 1,2 and 3 (ie the not-so-good ones) of the saga was one of the surprise hits of last year, blending the combination of Lego and Star Wars perfectly, based on the successful Lego product line. Whilst a little easy and therefore a bit short, the game was very well received and managed to extend replayability with a host of hidden secrets and extra characters. Now the original trilogy has been given the same treatment, and it's all you would want to expect: bigger, longer, and harder! With three chapters of six episodes each, along with a few bonus bits and pieces, there's plenty that should keep you going - unlike the first one,you probably won't be able to whip through this one the first time around in one sitting! It brings a smile to your face to see all of the classic Star Wars characters and vehicles bought to life in Lego form, and many of the character and vehicle models match those available for retail in a very nice touch! The same level of playability has returned, but there's definitely more to do and more things hidden in every level now - all humanoid characters can now build things, and sometimes you'll find things you don't expect!A few technical issues: plenty of users have reported a 'Error 1330' error when trying to install the game; this has come about as a result of a Microsoft update occurring that Lucasarts hadn't anticipated, however go to the Lucasarts forums and there are some workarounds posted on there. Secondly, this game is definitely more technically demanding that the previous one: download the demo if you're not sure to see how well it will run on your computer. Finally, if you can't get the feature that imports characters from the first game to work, check the readme file in the installation directory which tells you where you need to copy your old saved games to!

My friend introduced me to these Lego games on the PS2 through the brilliantly fun and occasionally challenging Indiana Jones version.Packed with fun easy operable levels that represent the three films it was a joy to play and me being 22 loved it, a proper adventure and the great thing is this Lego Star Wars game packs an almighty equal punch. One of the biggest stories ever told this original trilogy contains all elements from a New Hope, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi and as the films do, they pan out in a splendour of exciting features. The Lego universe has beautifully adapted a comic styling where there are short videos before each level that parody the film's classic elements, often adapting an eccentric comedy. For example in return of the Jedi Luke Skywalker does a variety of jumps on the plank in the desert, which is hilarious. You can work your way through the 3 films playing as the characters as they appear in the films. A treat comes at the end of the third film where you unlock Darth Vadar. All levels are active and with this Star Wars there are many transport levels. So you can fly the Millennium Falcon, the speeders and an x wing. Some levels are quite frustrating particularly the very last flying the falcon. As usual with the Lego universe you must try and find things on each level. 6 pieces of Minikit and a red brick. You must also collect as many Lego pieces as possible. On most you need to re-enter levels as different characters which frustrates some players but personally I love it as you find out more on each level. If you're a new starter to Lego or an old favourite I certainly recommend this for purchase as it is well worth your hours of action packed adventure and hilarity. Not quite as fun as the Indiana Jones series but funnier and equally enjoyable.9/10

I have played many Star Wars games over the years (the arcade/adventure type, not the role playing strategy games) and although a lot of them drew on the stuff we like from the films there was never one that allowed us to play the story of the films until the Lego Star Wars games came out.I never played the original game featuring episodes 1-3 but bought the Original Trilogy game and was thrilled in every way.The thing that struck me first was that it was very playable as the characters get shot but they just come back to life, and the worst thing is that you lose some of the studs you pick up when you are shot, but these just spread around and there's a good chance to pick up a few once you come to life again. The next thing I noticed was how light hearted and enjoyable the game was to play. You just wander around, shooting stormtroopers, making small piles of lego up and solving puzzles. It keeps to the story very well. The game is hilarious in parts, with the cut scenes between levels being brilliantly funny. Even within the levels it's very humourous, with things like Chewbacca putting on a helmet and it not fitting well, Gammorean guards playing their weapons like guitars, and Stormtroopers having their heads turned 180 degress by the "force"!For me the best levels are the ones including vehicles and these levels were the stuff of dreams for me. Using a snowspeeder to bring down the AT AT's, blasting round the Endor forest on a Speeder bike etc. Marvellous stuff!Graphically it's also very pleasing to the eye with gorgeously rendered characters and laser bolts, and lovely use of graphics to show the reflections on mirrored surfaces.I can't rate this game high enough. Some of the old Lucasarts games (Dark Forces, X Wing etc) were great but this is the one most star wars fans will want!

This is excellent; the chance to live out a lot of your favourite (original) Star Wars scenes, but best of all in a Lego-fied version, which may sound an odd concept at first but it adds a lot more fun to the whole thing; something that the more 'serious' Star Wars games over the years have been missing. Think of a cool scene in the history of the first three films and it's probably in there already (the Death Star bombing run, the Sarlaac Pit execution scene, the speeder bike chase on Endor). The sound effects are spot-on too; you'll never tire of the lightsabre or TIE fighter sound effects. The difficulty is set really well in the way that if you want to get through it easily,it'll let you bash on with multiple lives 'til the end, whereas doing it properly without dying regularly and managing to unlock everything is a whole different matter.. Also, I wouldn't say it's taxing as such, but there were still a few moments where I had to sit and just figure out how the hell I was meant to progress, so I think it would be unfair to dismiss this as a game you could just stroll through with your eyes closed (despite it's kiddy look). I haven't tried co-op mode yet, but it worked really well for mates just wanting to join in for 10 mins or so on the 1st game, so I can't imagine it being much different. A random touch to the game that I really appreciated was that (if you had Lego as a kid) there's a good chance you'll actually recognise some of the parts that things scatter into when exploded !So yeah, overall a game that puts the fun back into gaming, and reminds you why you loved Star Wars so much in the first place (more so than the 3 cringeworthy new films).

This game is pure genius, so much fun and the drop-in drop-out two player mode really works. See your kid struggling with a level, jump in and help him/her blast a few stormtroopers then go back to your gardening...It has humour, lots of "I remember that bit from the film" moments (the proper Star War films, that is!) and lots of replay value - trying to get the elusive mini-kits, red bricks and earn money for the extra characters.Whoever came up with Lego and Star Wars as a concept for a video game must have been on something, but I'm glad he was!My top tips for this game are:1) Save your money until you have completed Story mode, you can then spend it wisely in Freeplay mode. Most of the characters you'll need (Luke, Darth, Boba Fett) become available for nowt once you've defeated them2) Keep an eye out for the red bricks, once found they give you the extras to buy e.g invincibility, super lasers etc3) Boba Fett is the main man, especially with bounty hunter rockets enabled. He flies like R2D2 but packs a punch too4) Once you've purchased an extra, it isn't enabled by default (took me a while to sus this !). Once in the game, press Start, then Extras to toggle them on and off5) Ghost characters are expensive (the enemy cannot see you so won't shoot you !) but invincibility is better value (900,000 studs) to start with6) Don't waste time struggling to get that high-up mini-kit in story mode. Most of them aren't attainable until you do it in Freeplay with a Jedi or Bounty HunterNote - I've reviewed the Prima Game Guide on here alsoGo on, Force yourself (sorry!)

I'm not a huge Star Wars fan so I was dubious about playing this game to start with, but that soon faded as I realised what a great laugh it is! The characters are so cute, little Lego Leia is adorable with a grumpy little face and Lego bun hairdo - anyway I digress, and I doubt many people would play this game purely for the laughs to be had at the characters' appearances.Basically this game is so good because it appeals on different levels to different people. It's easy to get into, has a great storyline to follow, involves Lego violence (both intentional and otherwise), and for Star Wars fans you get to play as practically every character you can think of. Kids will enjoy it because the controls are easy, and you can't die, just lose Studs so there's no frustrating 'start over' problems. Adults will appreciate the surrealness of having little Lego people fighting with Lightsabres and slapping each other. The only problem I had with the game, is the length of it, I'm not one for endlessly going back over levels trying to get better scores and unlocking extra characters etc. (though if you are this game will keep you occupied for hours!) - It only took a couple of days to complete. I also had a few problems with some of the puzzles, it's not always obvious where to go and what you need to do next, e.g. some of the lego bricks you need to put together can be hidden under a trash can or a flower bed.Overall though, great fun for everyone, even those new to Star Wars like me!
