As the occupant of a single person household I was looking for something compact and discrete for disposing of green household waste, and this certainly fits the bill. It is well-made and sturdy. The bracket supplied means it is now attached to the inside of a kitchen cabinet door, out of the way. The carry handle is neat and useful when it comes to disposing of the contents in the composter. I find that I only fill about half of it during the course of a typical week but cannot leave it longer than that as it can start to smell after about ten days. The first time I used it I left it two weeks before emptying it which was a mistake! The biodegradable bag had done what it was supposed to,but a bit earlier than I would have liked. The smell was gross, the bag had leaked all manner of brown liquids into the base and there was a hairy grey mould between the bag and the container! All in all, not the most enjoyable experience early on a Saturday morning, just after breakfast. Well, at any time, really. Lesson learnt, it now gets emptied more regularly. It would have been great if there had been a filter in the lid, like the larger model, but the slider control is supposed to help keep the balance between holding back the smell and repelling squadrons of flies. Can't complain overall, the issues with the leaking bags is down to the bags not performing well enough rather than any design fault in the product. Faced with the same options again, I would definitely still go for this over the others I looked at and, sad as it is, I did look at loads. So I suppose that is a big red tick and gold star from me.

Up till now I've had a small bucket with a loose lid for my kitchen waste - so far, so good but it does get a bit messy and whiffy. Here is the answer! A very discreet pale stone-coloured rectangular box with a lid that swings over so you can have it either at the back or the front. The top section lifts off completely so you can line the main part, either with custom-fit liners, or with something else such as newspaper. (This will depend on whether you tip the contents ultimately into your dustbin or perhaps your compost heap.) Once the box is lined and the top section with the handle is fitted on firmly (easy) you can then lift the top lid with just a finger to tip stuff into the box. This is one of the best features as it means you don't have to fiddle with a lid while you've got wet or sticky fingers but can quickly and easily lift the lid and get your veg peelings or whatever into it. The top lid has a sliding grid in the centre which ventilates the contents and stops it getting too damp and smelly but, equally, if there are insects about you can shut the grid. It also comes with a bracket so that you could fix the whole thing to the inside of a cupboard door for instance and then just lift it off the bracket to empty it. A good bit of design, practical and easy to use. Yes, it's a bit expensive but you get what you pay for.

I just want to make it clear up front that i am not using this for its intended purpose. I know its for food waste, but i am using it as a dog poops pin.Anyone that owns a dog knows what a nightmare it is to keep your bins smelling fresh with having to clear up dog mess, so myself and im sure millions of others end up chucking everything in a bucket to take to the dog bin, but it stinks, and gets worse as time goes on.I thought it would be a good test of this bins effectiveness to test it out with dog mess, now whilst i understand that some people may find the next bit revolting, i placed this on my counter top, and when my dog had a motion, i bagged it up and put it in the caddy.I left it 4 days and i couldnt smell it at all. I could when i opened the vent though. I had 9 bags in there as well, but i could not smell a thing. Its brilliant and will be perfect outside in the summer. It is now on my outside wall, and the bracket is brilliant because i can just lift it off and walk a few hundred metres down the lane to my village's dog bin and tip it in without having to handle it again.Whilst it isnt its intended use, it is perfect for my needs. Finally, unless my eyes are failing, whilst this is described as stone, this is in fact light grey.

I looked at many of the square shaped caddies including ones from Joseph Joseph but no matter how many photos I saw, I just wasn't keen to have a rotting compost box on the worktop. But having installed this in a cupboard door which has it open out in front of where I tend to do the food chopping , I am very happy with it.I did have to buy 10l bags despite it being 4l as I was anxious about how smaller bags would fit the oblong shape. I know Joseph Joseph produce bags but these seemed to carry a premium. If you search for B00RELUK4O , I found these bags worked well. They had enough excess to make changing the bag easy without being too baggy if you pardon the pun! I am a family of 2,I think any bigger and we would have too much smell coming out of it before we filled it. The box fitted firmly on to the holder and the rim for holding the bags in place was easy to work with. On the whole I was perfectly happy with it.

I commend the design and the thought behind it. I will be honest I am not a fan of "plastic" things but I do like things to be practical and easy to clean. Plates are so easy to scrap into the bin and the capacity is just right if you don't want to have too much waste food hanging around and smelling. It does build up a bit of condensation on the lid which I notice when I do the daily empty (even with the slide open). I am not using the bracket which allows you to position in cupboard, rather it sits on my work top as I don't have anywhere else suitable. Space wise it is perfect for our household but you may find it too small if you have a large family. I use a bag liner and cleaning it is a breeze.Wish there had been a selection of colours to choose from but the stone colour is unobtrusive,

Goodbye to the ugly food caddy on the kitchen worktop, hello to slimline container hidden under the sink! The fact that it's mounted to the inside of the cupboard (above the height of the cleaning products stored there), means it is both practical and aesthetically pleasing. So far it hasn't fallen off! Be careful when screwing into the door, I did go in a little too far. As you can see, I am using the green compact bags I bought for my own caddy, rather than those specifically designed for it. The fact that it can be easily removed from it's position, makes it easy to have by your side if peeling straight into it or for emptying. For most of the time,it remains under the sink waiting for my never ending supply of used teabags-I just lift up the lid and in they go!

Second one I have bought, loved it so much I got my dad one, it’s so ideal for scraping the dinner plates into as it is plate width unlike so many other food waste bins, you know when you too the plate up that all the food in the plate will fall straight into the wide bin rather than spilling over the sides, doesn’t fit as much as the grey council bin they give you but again I don’t mind that as who wants rotting food in the house for any longer than needed, we are a family of 4 (2 adults 2 teenage boys) and I fill this up and empty it every 2 days. I also like the fact it has a vent you can open in the lid so if you have put hot teabags or hot food in it it can vent rather than condensate.Only thing I would have liked is for it to be grey! Would highly recommend.

Very nice caddy, fitted mounting to inside of door under kitchen sink. I had problems fitting the bin liner till I discovered that the top comes off at the join line that runs around just above the handle fixing. Just pull up top and off it comes, fit liner inside and then stretch and fold down over the area where the top came off, now push the top back on trapping the liner in place.Bracket needs careful marking of position on door with pencil and ruler and then started holes with my gimlet and then used a small screwdriver to fit screws.Caddy fits on well, just drops in place on bracket and never falls off when opening and closing door.I have it at a good height to peal streight into and itis easy to clean after I put the liner out ready for collection.

A small but well designed 4 litre food waste caddy. This is ideal if you have limited cupboard or counter space and want to save food waste for composting or transporting to a green waste bin.The caddy comes with everything needed to mount it to the inside of a cupboard.I prefer to have it on the counter top when chopping veg etc. but it can be easily removed from the mount and then easily replaced afterwards. The size means that it does need emptying frequently and so if you have the space it could be worth looking for a larger size if you chop a lot of veg for meals.Joseph Joseph always have lovely and well designed products that tend to last well while looking good.A good product perfect for ensuring food waste isn't wasted!

Have had this bin for 8 months hanging on the inside of our cupboard under the sink. This cupboard doesn't have a huge amount of room but the design works well as the depth is quite narrow. It hasn't caused the door to sag at all. We use it for all types of food waste including meat, fruit and veg offcuts. There are just 2 of us but it adequately holds all food waste for an entire week between rubbish collections. And the very best part - the odours do not escape the bin when it is closed. It's easy to mount, easy to remove, holds compostable bags perfectly and is easy to wash. I've had some average to poor products from Joseph Joseph but this is a real winner.

We were looking for a food caddy that didn’t have to be on constant display. We have a relatively small kitchen wanted something that we could hide away and this is a good solution.I knew it was going to be small by the provided measurements so no surprises when it arrived. It fits securely and neatly to the inside of our under sink cupboard door. It’s a little flimsy but does the job as expected. Be warned though that it really is quite small and we’re finding that we have to empty the caddy every few days. Also, it’s expensive for what it is but there really aren’t many other options to on the market.Like i say, it’s perfect for what we were looking for.

I love Joseph Joseph products and this is a lovely little food bin which we bought half price (I don't think I would have paid full price for it). I have been able to find the correct size bags from anyone other than Joseph Joseph so instead buy the 5l bags from Morriston which work just fine. I personally don't like the fact that so much of the bag is always on show and ours seems very prone to staining (luckily it seems to be ok in the dishwasher). We also find that even with everything closed the flies still manage to find their way in... Still a generally good little waste bin though and I find it is attractive enough to sit out on our kitchen counter.

Just big enough to pop inside a cupboard or keep on top of work surface, it's neat and stylish for most kitchens . Love how the lid has a vent in it and can be open and closed to keep it airy or keep flies out. Great size for 1 or 2 people households, so not ending up with large amounts of food waste hanging about , empty every few days or so. The council waste food bags fit ok, maybe a little big but with a little pleat they work great. JJ have their own bags to fit but at £8 a pack I found that a litgle too much to pay for bin bags . I bought this at half price so it was a good buy , not sure i would have paid fu price though.

The waste caddy is a convenient size that you can place on a work surface. We have ours next to the sink where it is much more convenient than our normal waste container which we keep by the back door. You can scrape plates, put peelings, or transfer waste generally close to the point where they are located. Then every day or so we can transfer the waste from the caddy into the regular waste container. So basically we have two waste containers now. The caddy has a flip lid which is normally kept closed but which is very easy just to flip open. It's very easy to clean and I haven't noticed any smells coming from it.

J&J products are always great, but they are a bit pricey. I was chuffed to get this for half price one day, which made all the difference. I had had my eye on it for a while but didn’t want to pay such a price just for a bin....! However, I really like it, abd am considering buying another. It fits on my wall in the kitchen, out of the way. Dead easy to clean, looks good, keeps any smells in. My second one will be used as a bin in my bedroom tucked away in an inconspicuous place for my cotton buds, tissues etc. since I’d prefer a wall-mounted bin like this one.
