Being a 26 year veteran of the toobing wars I believe that I am in a unique position to review this product. I usually go toobing anywhere between 12 and 50 times a year with 30 - 40 trips in a year being average. For years I have used the standard black truck inner tube, usually a 9.00/20 or a 10.00/20. I like the black tubes because the hole in the centre is more suited for my adult size rear end.Until I found this tube last year, I had never seen a vinyl tube that had a hole larger than about 12 inches. This caused me to sit up too much in the tube and made my back hurt. It also made it hard to paddle. The hole in this tube, the Intex River Run, is proportioned more like a regular rubber tube. The great thing is that you can blow it up at the river yourself and when the trip is finished the tube has a screw out quick release valve that deflates the tube in about 30 seconds. With the black tubes you have to stop at a gas station and blow them up, then cram them into the car or tie them onto your car for the final leg of the trip to the river. Black tubes also take a long time to deflate. In addition the black rubber tubes will give you "tube rash" under your arms from rubbing on them while paddling and they get very hot in the sun. This vinyl tube stays cool in the sun and has a mesh bottom that makes it great for kids. If you do not like the mesh bottom you can cut it out without damaging the tube. I left mine in.Black tubes also dry rot after only one season and inflate unevenly. I have seen vinyl tubes in service for years. I bought one of these tubes last year to try it out and I loved it. However, after the summer started and I got to try it for real, they were sold out everywhere. This year I am buying several more. A great purchase for any toober.Update to my original review, August 12, 2011.Three years after my initial review I still rate this product ***** (5 Stars). I now own seven of these tubes. With proper care these tubes can last two or more years, maybe longer but I use them at least weekly during the warm months in LA (that's Lower Alabama) which lasts from April till October and two years is about what I am comfortable with.I have had three spring a leak after heavy use and two I was able to repair with the included repair kit. One was popped by a sharp stick and was not salvageable, the hole was about two inches. These tubes are very comfortable, allow you to get in the water and stay cool, great for kids of all sizes (the mesh bottom will not let a kid slide out), and they do not heat up in the sun.One note, I have seen this toob marketed as the River Run, the River Run I, and the River Run II. I cannot tell the difference other than the name, they all have mesh bottoms, cup holders, side handles, an inflatable headrest, and ropes around the outside. Go figure. Overall, the best tube I have ever seen for flat-water floating, I have heard of people using them for going over whitewater but I have no experience with that. For a pool, lake or slow river it cannot be beat.

I HAD A GREAT TIME IN THIS TUBEI was also admittedly drunk, but whatevs. The river was hella low, and i got stuck on some rocks several times, but this tube was like "AWW NAW HELL NAW" and i just scootched right over top of all them rocks and sticks and nonsense. The cupholders and handles were perfect for my can o' wine and my Nalgene o' Bootlegger. Not gonna lie, I threw up in the river, but I don't blame the tube. A few people had other brands of tubes, and their tubes popped, but luckily, i had brought an extra one of these already inflated. Ironically, these were the same people who were dissin on these vinyl tubes because "canvas wrapped is sooooo much better." WHERE IS YOUR CANVAS GOD NOW??I don't know where the tubes are now,i think they might have gotten thrown into a bonfire, but if i ever feel like pukin in a river again, this will be my method of flotation. It inflated and deflated super fast, but it was bulky to carry back to the pick-up point.Final word -- If you need a tube: BUY THIS JENK RIGHT HEREUPDATE: May 20, 2013 --I STILL STAND BY THIS WHOLE REVIEW.NO REGRETS.Except for the Bootlegger. That was a mistake.I still love these - I got another set of these same tubes after the first ones got burnt up and I will be pukin on the river again this summer.Listen up, because this next bit is important: I didn't realize how truly amazing these Intex River Runs were until i went on an unplanned river day and had to BORROW a tube. It was one of those plain black jobbies. How pedestrian. AND IT WAS HORRIBLE (insert Grumpy Cat face). Those black tubes get sooooo hot. The backs of my thighs and elbows got burnt with the heat of a thousand suns everytime i shifted. I had no backrest so I actually had to HOLD MY OWN HEAD UP the entire trip. That part might sound ridiculous, but compare it like this: lying on the couch vs sitting on one of those exercise ballsto watch TV. And the stupid nozzle groped me in inappropriate places. I don't know how many adult beverages I lost because i didn't have a cupholder or a mesh bottom. We had to hold onto each others shoes because we didn't have the ropes. Everytime we went through any kind of rapids i fell out of my tube because i had no handles. When I fell out one time, I scraped my b-hole on B-Hole Rock (nobody else calls it that, I started calling it that after i scraped my b-hole on it). It made me miss my Intex even more. My first river trip of the year is this coming weekend and I'M SO EXCITEDDDDD to use this tube again.tl;dr: Intex River Run is still my Jam.

After reading the many reviews and seeing these as well as the River Rats (also Intex) at various lakes and rivers, I decided to pick one up. I also picked up the River Run 2 for 2 adults. The River Run is a high quality medium duty River or lake tube. The build is thicker and tougher than a regular swimming pool tube and you notice this right away. The other thing you notice right away is the size. This thing is big for one person. I am 5'7" and when I lay in it, my hands can barely touch the water. When in a lake and drifting, it would be nice to be able to steer a bit with your hands in the water. So for me, maneuverability is just not there. If you want to just float, it is great.Unlike the River Rat,this does not have an empty hole in the bottom of it. It has mesh which is nice for me, but the River Rat was more popular in our group, especially with the grand kids.Where this was real popular for myself was the inflation and deflation of the tube. It uses a standard large nozzle like you would use on an air mattress to sleep on. It is simple and fairly quick to do, especially when you see the size of this. To deflate, you simply unscrew the valve assembly and force out the air. It could not be made simpler. The reason for 4 stars was due to being unable to maneuver this in a lake with your hands. I am taking a paddle out this next week as we camp again and seeing if it is doable. To some, this may be a non-issue but for myself, when I see an area of rocks coming closer, I really do not want to just drift into them and to find out the hard way that one rock may be just pointy enough to POP the River Run. The River Run though does have two air chambers for safety.7/19/14 UPDATE: Just got back from camping and I would upgrade my rating to 4.5 stars if I could. We used it at the lake and i brought along a double end paddle we use for an air filled 2 man boat and it worked decently for maneuverability. Hey, it was not perfect but I was able to go against the current and a light wind to get back to the area we were at after drifting a bit. I did get a bit wet from the paddle as one end is down in the water and it was still a reach to get paddle in the water far enough to do any good, which left the other end was up over me in the air dripping water. This was not a big deal as with the River Run, you are still getting wet as you float where you sit. :)

I purchased two of these inflatable tubes for a weekend houseboat trip on Lake Shasta. My only regret is that I did not purchase four of them. This was a last minute decision/purchase. I ordered them on Sept. 3; received Sept 6; and left for the houseboat Sept. 8. In my youth, I loved water sports but at my age, you will not catch me on a set of water skis or anything else that gets pulled behind a boat - those days are over for me. So I was thinking the only way I might enjoy the water is to lazily float around on a tube. So this is how I fell in love with these tubes: we got our houseboat and headed towards a cove. The lake water temp was in the upper 70's and the outdoor temp was high 90's.The tubes easily pumped up with a foot pump (we did this on the way to the cove). Once anchored, I tossed the tube in; gently lowered myself into the tube; adjusted for the headrest; then asked someone to toss me a bottle of water for the cup holder. I laid my head back on the rest and I can only describe this event as close to heaven. Sun setting over the mountains, cool (but warm) water on my hands and feet... I could have lived on that tube. The bottom of the tube has mesh material so the water comes through the mesh. My butt got wet but everything else stayed as dry as I wanted. My husband got into the second tube and had someone hand him a scotch for his cupholder (multi-purpose cupholders). We tied our tubes together with the enclosed attachment hooks(?) - whatever they are called. I don't think I hooked them correctly because they didn't stay. There is a rope that feeds around the tube and we tied a very long rope to the tubes and boat to keep us from floating too far. My 2-year old grandson is afraid of the water but he happily sat on my lap while on the tube. These tubes are very reliable and sturdy. My 30ish-year-old son and his wife were also with us which is why I wish I had purchased four tubes. We had to take turns. I couldn't get my 80+-year-old parents on the tube but I plan to next time. Our trip would not have been as pleasant without these tubes. I think I'm going to go ahead and purchase two more tubes now even though the water season here is about done. For the price, these tubes are well worth it.

I got this tube for use during river floats because it was about the same price as the cheaply made ones I found at Wal-Mart and Farm & Fleet. I thought that based on the reviews and the price, I may as well give it a shot. Boy, was I impressed! This tube is unbeatable at this price.First off, the tube itself is very durable. The material feels thick, and the tube just feels very tough. The river was a little low when I went and at some parts, it got down to only about 3" deep. I am a 210 pound guy and it didn't drag! Although it didn't drag on the river bottom, it occasionally hit logs and branches that were in the water. I know it is durable because not a thing happened to it when it hit these branches and logs. The mesh bottom didn't even tear, like some reviewers have said.It is also amazingly comfortable and convenient. The back rest made sitting in it for 6 hours on my float down the river very comfortable. The mesh bottom is very nice to sit in, too. At 6'1" and 210 pounds, this tube was very comfortable and fit me easily. The cup holders were great, too. They fit a 20 oz soda bottle, or a 12 oz adult beverage bottle perfectly. The handles and rope were very nice, also. I tied a spare tube to mine to sit a cooler in using the included rope and put it through the rings on the outside that the rope is supposed to go through to wrap around the tube.Overall, this tube is great. All of the features combined with a price tag below $20 makes this a great buy for anyone that wants to use it for river float, or just lounging in the pool on a hot day. If you need a new tube, or want a better tube, this is a great one to buy.

I purchased 6 of these for a yearly camping trip that involves a slow and fairly shallow lazy river day after trying many different products over the years (everyone has always had different products in the past with varying degrees of success and a few colossal failures). We were all very impressed with these--they seem durable (as we bottomed out on rocks and branches many times without issue), the mesh on the bottom is great for keeping a few things with you. The cup holders are iffy--they are a great idea, but we brought bottles of water and the cup holders aren't quite deep enough to keep them VERY secure--we'll probably by the tag-along cooler for next year. The ropes are a great idea, but we just tied them to one of the attachment loops and would throw them too each other to tie each other together. The headrest worked great - it was a very comfortable ride. My only complaint (truly, since the cup holder is not a big problem) is the placement attachment loops for the rope--some of us are pretty active and like to paddle around (especially when we took these on the lake)--if you are really paddling a lot (on your back) you'll scrape these loops with your arms over and over--not comfortable, but not enough to cause blisters or damage. They are also larger than you might think they are--I'm over 6' at 210lb, and the size of the tube meant there was enough air to keep me much higher out of the water than many I've tried before (great if you get to a shallow area). So, yes, I'm a fan and I would recommend these (and have) to anyone looking for a comfortable and sturdy ride.

Purchased two River Run tubes from amazon at $24each in early July. I had never been tubing before and the river was a little low in spots, fast in others. We were on the Delaware in PA to NJ (what amounted to a 7 hour float!)with a few rapids, lots of rocks, trees and branches. These tubes were the best - the head rest was perfect and was good to lean against while paddling backwards (or to add a little extra flotation to help keep your butt off the bottom of the river where it was low), the white color kept them from getting hot, the handles are well placed. Loved the mesh in the bottom! I did not know any better that you could re-enter a tube from the bottom up,so flopping into this seemed right and my butt did not go down thru the hole. I also did not lose my sunglasses or waterproof camera. The tow cords came in handy over the fast spots when I did not want to get separated from my husband. And we are not small people - each of us is 220 and 5'8"/5'10" What a durable tube! It bumped and slid over rocks and bounced off some tree limbs with no issues. We got lots of compliments on them from tubers who were obvious pros. The only problem with one was a valve that leaked air out before you could close it, but we filled it as much as we could and it stayed inflated the whole time.I would definitely purchase a few more to have on hand for when guests come and want to ride the river. Would want to also get a pump that plugs into the car or truck, because at 48" these things are big when inflated!!

You can't beat Intex's river tubes. My friends and I have been going tubing several times a year on a typically calm but rocky stretch of river. We average between 5 and 30 river miles a year for the past several years. Multiply that by 4-6 Intex tubes, and this is a lot of river time. They do get punctured from time to time, but it's never the end of the world - bring a vinyl patch kit, and if one tube seems to be leaking, haul everyone up on a rock, spend 20 minutes on the patch, slap some duct tape over the top of it for extra waterproofing and you're good to go. Most patches we do this way hold out not just for the rest of the trip, but indefinitely.Make sure that when you tie your tubes together you put the rope through as many of the rubber grommets/anchors as you can. Attaching your tube to another with a single anchor is a sure way to break that anchor, unless your river is perfectly flat and boring (most aren't).Unless you're a marathon runner, make sure to get a 12VDC car plug blower to inflate the tubes' Boston valves, or a Boston to Schraeder valve adapter so you can use a bike pump. Blowing these things up manually is possible (we did it for years) but is NOT recommended.(Also: I purchased this Gen2 tube because our party grew, NOT to replace a failure. We've never had a terminal (or even catastrophic) tube failure.)

I bought these to take a summer trip down the river. My family used boats last year and had much difficulty because the river level was so low. A couple of us used old fashioned Tire tubes and while it was an ok experience, it was a little miserable trying to hold ourselves up the whole time. When we went home this year the river was low again but there were no problems at all. It only took a couple of minutes to get them blown up. They are easy to travel to the site because of the handles. We really enjoyed these because they were large enough for anyone to get in it. The mesh bottom saved our bottoms many times. It also held us in so we could maneuver around to sit up and supported us when we just layed back to relax. There are two cup holders which was great so that we could carry a drink with us. I really liked the tether rings because I have two kids and my dad and I were uncomfortable with having them go unattended. The rings allowed us to be close enough for safety but not so close that they didnt feel like they were just hanging out. The pillow pad was nice to have when the river flow was slow and you just wanted to chillax. I found that they are extremely durable. We hit several low spots and scraped across rock and while the bottoms were scuffed, they didnt look any worse for wear. I would recommend these to everyone.

This is a good-sized tube with comfortable hand-holds, and the rope around the perimeter is useful. The backrest is unnecessary and gets in the way in my opinion. The material on this tube is pretty tough-- it is not going to survive a ride through rapids and it will not fare as well over fallen logs and sticks as a tractor inner tube will, but then again it is more comfortable than a tractor inner tube. The tube's mesh bottom means your bottom will be cooled by the river water and any water splashed or drinks spilled into the tube will wash away. I prefer an open-bottomed tube myself but we bought this for an elderly relative who wanted to continue to enjoy a lazy float down the river but who had a tendency to fall through open-bottomed tubes. She did not want a tube with a completely closed bottom in case she needed to "tinkle" while floating along. This mesh bottom served all of our needs. The tube lasted for 3 years of tubing down a fairly lazy river on a weekly basis during the summer. It probably would have lasted longer had it been stored out of the sun when not in use. We had a foot pump to inflate this-- if you are thinking of buying it and plan on inflating/deflating regularly, do yourself a favor and invest in a pump. It would have taken ages to inflate orally.

This is a great raft, especially for group trips because they easily connect to each other. I definitely recommend getting a pump to go along with it, but because there are two valve options (one way to fill up plus a quick release), it is easy enough to blow into too, but would take a long time. I bought 3 rafts and my friends bought 3 more plus the rectangle cooler (also by Intex, river run series) for a floating trip on the Russian River and they were all great, except that one of the ones I bought had a defect in the valve portion and as a result had a slow leak throughout our 7 hour floating trip. It wasn't a huge deal because we were on a really slow moving river and I periodically re-inflated it by mouth to keep it full, but it was a bit annoying. I will try to return this raft and get a replacement because the 5 other people were very happy with their rafts (and I was too despite the slow leak)! The cup holders are convenient and the handles and grab ropes are also very nice to have. The rafts are comfortable and we all liked the mesh bottom (plastic mesh rather than nylon or some other fabric) so you stay in the water somewhat. They were very quick to inflate with the car pump and very quick to deflate with the quick release. I highly recommend this product.

This river tube is fantastic. I bought two of them at a time. After unwrapping it, the smell of fresh rubber surrounded me and I knew it was meant to be. Blowing it up without an pump does leave you dizzy and gasping for breath, but that's part of the excitement, isn't it?The exterior is a smooth, good smelling, durable rubber/plastic that holds up to the rowdiest tubing adventures.Works great as a living room chair when placed on the floor in front of the family radio. The net seating conforms to you, and hugs you tightly so you don't take a spill. The cup holders are a bit small and don't stretch much, but they hold only a beer bottle very well. The back rest. My goodness the back rest. The backrest is a separate air compartment than the main tube section. It can be blown up separately so you can adjust firmness. It keeps your posture nice and straight when blown up fully, but blowing it up halfway allows you to slouch. It comes with a rope so your partner can hold on and swim alongside. This is an excellent tube for indoor and outdoor use. It gets nice and soft in the sun, but that doesn't affect it durability. When anyone sees the Intex River Run I floating down the river, they say, "Hey, there goes a winner".The Intex River Run I. Would buy again.

My friends and I have gone tubing every weekend this summer as it's an easy thing to do without talking to or seeing anyone else (especially when using your own tube and going to lesser-known spots). I got this one-seater, but can also say the two-seater with built-in cooler is fantastic. We connect them all together and enjoy our drinks and snacks and conversation in the sun. The tubes have netting under the seat, which makes staying in them really easy and safe for kids. The inflatable pillows make them comfy for lounging. I wish they were a bit more comfortable for laying on your stomach, but we can't have everything and that's ok. The rubber bottom is really durable.Where we go is pretty shallow and we sometimes scrape against the bottom of the river or bounce off trees/rocks. We've never worried about popping. They inflate really easily - just make sure you have access to a boston valve pump. It's pretty specific, we didn't have one, and we drove to 4 different stores (Ace, Lowes, Walmart, Target) before anyone knew what we were talking about. They deflate quickly - we recommend letting them dry out in in the sun before folding them up or storing them or the mud/dirt can stain the white upper. Not a deal breaker, but just note. 10/10 would buy again.

I have only used the tube once so far (a lot of rain where I live this summer) but I must say I am really happy with how it's working out. I bought a cheap hand pump at a sporting goods store so the thing is so easy to inflate. I tubed with friends who had inferior products and they were much lower in the water and their buns were getting very cold. I was lifted higher above the water and was extremely comfortable. The mesh bottom keeps your butt out of the water a little more, too. At first I didn't want the mesh bottom because I like to be able to slide down through the hole into the water but now that I've experienced the mesh bottom I'm really glad it came included.(I also read that you can cut it out if you want, so I guess there's always that option.) The headrest is an added bonus- never used one before but I sure do love it. Might I add that the cup holders are nice, and there is a rope around the tube that allows you to attach to fellow tubers. Like I said I've only used this tube once, but it seems pretty durable and I never felt nervous when it bumped into rocks. Also you cannot beat this price!! Great tube. Hope that it lasts me many more trips down the river/many more summers.

The quality of this tube is on par with some $30 tubes I have owned. The tube comes with two clips so you can connect other tubes or a floating cooler. While this is a nice idea, the clips don't hold together very well (probably a safety feature). A small rapid or about 5 lbs of force will disconnect them. The cup holders on the other hand, are very convenient and held my cans snugly. The webbing could be simply cut out if that's your thing but I like it in place to hold a few drinks and keep them cool. The handles are hollow and I fear they may rip with heavy use but, I have used this tube only twice since I have purchased it so, time will tell. Make sure you pump this tube up at least a few hours before you use it.They have a tendency to stretch a bit the first time you fill them, and this also makes sure there aren't any leaks.*POINTER: If you are floating a cold river, over inflate the tube a bit. The cold water will cool the air, and the pressure in the tube will go down. All in all, for the price, if this lasts only one season of lazily floating down rivers while getting gangsta sunburns and making memories, it's money well spent! I think it'll last a couple of years anyway.
