Speedo Pull BuoyAs a personal trainer, I've used all sorts of different pieces of kit with clients and when training myself, and this is a classic piece of training equipment. Designs vary slightly between makers but pull buoys are all essentially a piece of dense shaped foam; the deciding factor may simply be how a particular pull buoy feels between your thighs.A pull buoy is gripped gently between the tops of the thighs as you swim and has a variety of benefits These include:* With your legs taken out of the equation, swimmers can focus solely on stroke technique (eg developing a steady stroke or working on high elbow catch)* It helps improve upper body strength, and can be used in combination with paddles* Helps teach proper, streamlined body position* They are particularly useful for triathlete training when a pull buoy/no legs session can follow immediately after a bike or run training workout when your legs are dead, or be used as a recovery session* They can help breath control practice (it is important to be able to breathe on both the left and right)* Helps with practice on sighting/looking ahead* Can be used to build cardiovascular (heart/lung) capacity using breathing drills (sets of variable breath counts)* Can be used with any strokeHowever, pull buoys must be used sparingly in specific training drills to avoid over-reliance, since it does interfere with the natural swim movement and reduces use of that all-important core strength. For sale at the time of writing this review at £11.95 (RRP £15).

As a former national swimming champion, I have spent a fair share of my time in a swimming pool training mornings and evenings so have a plethora of experience when it comes to swimming equipment.  With arms only being one of my favourite skills and drills, I couldn’t wait to try out this new piece of equipment that I have acquired.Aesthetically, black is not necessarily my colour of choice. However, it will not show up mould like other pullbuoys have done after heavy use and over a long period of time.  Equally, though, it is difficult to brand it with your name and it is not unknown for equipment to go missing on poolside when it is not named with indelible ink! Throughout the years,I have always been impressed by Speedo’s equipment; being one of the top swimming brands, it is usually my go-to brand and this product is no different.  Fitting in with Speedo’s high standards, they have nailed the ergonomics of this pullbuoy.  It is very comfortable to use making arms only swimming as pleasurable as it can possibly be!Like most pullbuoys, this is made of foam. Judging by my past experience, this material rapidly shows signs of wear from continuous friction and use.  It would be great if Speedo were able to come up with a new product that did not show signs of ageing.  This is the only reason why I have given this product four stars.

I’ve been using a pull-buoy as part of my swimming routine for as long as I can remember – and they are a very effective aid to improve technique, improve upper body strength and they also add some variety to your training session.I’ve tried several over the years and in most respects they perform similarly and are much of a muchness. However, what immediately struck me about this buoy – and what set it apart – is how solid, dense and heavy it feels compared to others (and slightly bigger). It’s still ‘light’ (after all, it *is* still foam) but, still, noticeably heavier than my other floats. I wondered whether this might increase the resistance somewhat (which might not be a bad thing).I’vetested this over a couple of sessions now and have to say I could not detect any difference in performance and feel between this model and my usual one (despite its denser composition and marginally larger dimensions). So, in short, it performs very well (but nothing sets it apart performance-wise).In conclusion this is a perfectly good float – but noticeably more expensive than similarly-performing models. That being said it is unusually/eye-catchingly designed and it feels like it would last a lifetime (not that I’ve ever experienced one deteriorating or breaking before).

Although I am in no way a professional swimmer, I do swim regularly and was looking for a floatation device which would allow me to work on strengthening my upper body or lower body as needed. This pullbuoy is great for that, as when placed between the legs it offers enough floatation and balance so that I can focus on the movement in my arms and perfect the strokes. It also works when held horizontally by the arms to strengthen leg movement. The device offers the perfect amount of floatation for me although the amount of support it gives can be changed dependent on which way it is held between the legs; positioning the larger part towards the bottom of the pool with the smaller end between the legs offers more buoyancy. It also, surprisingly, is not uncomfortable. I am quite small and the material is pretty firm but after a lap or too, the pullbuoy doesn't feel out of place. In summary, this is a great tool for if you want to perfect your swimming technique, for strength training or if you just feel like having additional buoyancy and support when swimming.

The pattern and colours in this pull buoy are very pretty, camouflaging the float in the water. Although, I'm not sure I choose a pull buoy for its aesthetics, but purely the function of strengthening the upper body while concentrating on the style, power and efficiency of the stroke. It needs to be gripped between the upper thigh, close to the groin area and can be used for working the upper body in all strokes, although I mainly use it for front crawl combined with a set of hand paddles. There are plenty of YouTube videos showing how best to use a pull buoy within your swimming workout.Like all pull buoys I have owned, the foam absorbs the water and takes a while to dry out thoroughly. Its size is rather indiscrete as it doesn't fit into my bag, so I walk out of the gym with a soggy float. However, this is a good product of its type as it performs its function well.

I play water polo at county level and also regularly compete in lane swimming events and races, so swimming technique and strength is important to me.This pullbouy is brilliant for building upper body strength and technique for front crawl or back stroke.I've noticed some pullbouys give too much buoyancy so it actually becomes too easy, but this one is weaker so it is ever so slightly harder to keep afloat, perfect for training. As other people have mentioned, you can also swap which way around it goes, for example if you want slightly more buoyancy you can put the larger end at the bottom towards the water. All in all, its a great tool for improving technique and strength, both for people learning how to swim, for those who want to improve technique or those who want to train for body conditioning.

This Speedo Elite Pull Buoy is similar to devices I used during hydrotherapy sessions a few years ago and is a useful aid to fitness. Available in two colour options – plain grey/green or patterned blue/green – this Speedo pull buoy is made from good quality EVA foam that should last a long time without problems. This pull buoy can be used on it's own to help develop upper body strength, or with hand paddles for a more challenging workout for your arms. Currently around twelve pounds from Amazon for the plain version this is a good quality fitness/swimming aid that is portable enough to carry around with you in your swimming bag.Good value for the quality at the current price this Unisex Elite Pull Buoy by Speedo gets five stars for design and performance and is a good product for it's purpose.

Really useful for improving my stroke.I stopped swimming for about five years, and when I got back into it after joining the gym, I realised it was harder than I remember it being, I was struggling with my breathing seeming to only be breathing on my right side rather than alternating and my rotation when breathing was too much. after using this almost exclusively when swimming for the past month it seems to have really sorted out my technique.THe only problem is that sometimes when not using this I forget to use my legs!My technique still isn't as good as it used to be but its a damn sight better, I'm better at alternate breathing, my body is longer when I swim and my stroke is more powerful.Excellent product for beginners and more competent swimmers alike.

The Speedo Elite Pull Buoy (made from patterned foam) it encourages optimum body position in the water, and promote confidence in ‘keeping afloat’, which in turn helps enhance upper body capacity in swimming. This is done by helping to ‘immobilize legs’ and raise the upper body - so the arms need only be used to focus on swimming. The ergonomic design ensures a comfortable fit (should be good for older teens to adult swimmers). In addition, your body should achieve the correct position for swimming. To use, basically place the Speedo Elite Pull Buoy in between your thighs to secure. This is a good product, from a well-established sports company and should be robust enough for the task ahead.

4 stars for this speedo product - purely because of the cost - otherwise its a good training aid. It's well made and has a good ergonomic profile allowing the pull buoy to nestle comfortably between the upper legs. It allows you to isolate the legs but maintain buoyancy, so that you can concentrate on the upper body for front crawl. You can use the float either way round (big end facing the bottom of the pool to increase buoyancy or the little end facing the bottom of the pool to decrease it). I found the difference not to be that great and its more a personal preference which way round its used. No instructions with this training aid - but then again - you don't need them.

The foam is solid, so solid that it'll hurt if you threw it at someone, so it's not likely to disintegrate in the water like the cheaper ones do. This has been great for upper body strength training as it allows you to not kick your legs. it fits comfortably and doesn't slip, and adds enough buoyancy that you can either butterfly kick with it for added resistance, or not kick at all and leave your legs to float. What you see is what you get with it really, but it's a valid accompaniment to swim training, and also miles better in quality for both the foam and smoothness over cheaper more generic ones i've used.

This Speedo Elite Pull Buoy is excellent for serious swimming training for adults and teenagers. It's designed so that it can be gripped between your legs without slipping. It gives buoyancy to your legs so that you can improve and strengthen your arm strokes in the pool. As with most Speedo products it is made well and should last the test of time in the pool. Rather than coming in a solid colour it has an unusual modern patterned design. If you are into swimming this is an excellent training aid, sizing is ideal for 13 years and above though it was a little too big for my 9 year old.

These are regularly used by my kids in their swim classes. We've all given it a go now and they're surprisingly effective. For what is a simple design, Speedo have refined the ergonomics so that they are easy to use - mainly a case of grip between thighs or calves to immobilise legs and focus on arms strength and propulsion through the water without loss of buoyancy. We've also used it to support the front of our bodies to focus on leg strokes andWe like the fact it isn't big and bulky, and doesn't act like a sponge. It dries pretty quickly after use.

We were trying to build upper body strength on a few of the grandchildren when swimming and this is a great aid for that. It keeps the legs afloat and still while using only your arms to pull you through the water. We tried this with 2 different size adults and 3 different age and size children and we all liked it. We did have a smaller child one but even the children prefer this slightly bigger adult one. They all tested it and found the ideal comfy spot for each of them, some low down and some a little higher on the thighs.

The pullbuoy came on the day estimated. I have used it twice and once I got over my self conscious feeling of having something shoved high up between my legs I was away.It stays in place with no problem and it has helped my freestyle no end. It makes your body stay in the right position so you can concentrate on technique, breathing and body roll. As a result I can honestly say I have not swam better. I use it for the first 2-300 metres and then the rest of the swim is without. This works a treat for me.Recommended.
