I purchased the swimfin for my 5 year old grandson after hearing about it on holiday. As in the picture, it is fin shaped, comes in great colours and fits round the body with two adjustable straps.Although he can't swim properly he is fairly confident in water, but with the swimfin he was off like a rocket and immediately swum a width, just like that. He is delighted with the idea of being mistaken for a shark and is looking forward to wearing it in the sea for maximum effect.I'd say it does everything it says. Any criticism I have is about product information. I wasn't aware until after my purchase that it comes in different sizes/weights, and it was only by luck that we have the one we need. The backpack looked interesting, but it was a while before I worked out that it wasn't any kind of additional buoyancy aid, but just a neat way of carrying everything around. Information could be a lot clearer and more detailed, especially on the official website. The sad thing is that he is not allowed to wear it at his school swimming lessons, not at swim club which cuts down his opportunity to use it quite a bit. I don't know whether this is because the teachers don't know what it does, or just a general ban on any kind of aid. Either way it's a shame as it does add fun and confidence to his swimming sessions.

My daughter (she is 5 years old and in shape (as opposed to so many obese kids you see now)), loves the look and feel of this product. And, it does look cool when she pops under the water and suddenly this 'shark fin' comes out the water like a scene from Jaws. Very cool lol. Other kids in the pool all loved the look of it too. However, I felt her face was in the water too much when she pushed off in the prone position. Now I know thats the correct technique but not when I want her to keep her face out the water till she can control her breathing technique. The 'swin fin' did keep her afloat and she was happy with it, but the images on the packaging show a kid at a 45o angle, which I thought would be the position it would help her adopt. Maybe I have it positioned wrong (under her arms, around her waist, tip of the fin at the nape of her neck)? Anyway, my kid loved it. It is helping her swim better and with more confidence. She didn't mind her face in the water for a longer period of time than I would have thought she would be comfertable with and she did bypass her traditional hand held float for her 'swim fin'. I give this 8 out of 10. 9 if it kept her face out more and 10 if she wants to use it each weekend.

I don't normally write reviews but felt I had to for this one. I was dubious how well this would work when I bought it but my 4 year old hates swim armbands and the reviews (and the price) on this was good so I gave it a go. From the moment it arrived my son wanted to try it on and was wearing it like a shark costume around the house, so its obviously quite comfortable. The real test came when we went to the local pool. He was eager for me to put it on and had a go in the medium sized pool first. He quickly started lifting his feet and did his own version of the doggy paddle to get around. Then he went straight for the big pool ans was going around in the deep water all by himself for the first time.I was very surprised how much confidence this gave him. Towards the end of our (extended) swimming session, I took the fin off and he was even doing a couple of practice launches in the medium pool with the new found swimming confidence the fin has given him. If you have doubts about this product, I can only say its definitely worth a try!

I bought this item after seeing my daughter use it at her Swimming lessons, her father is a scuba instructor and regularly takes her along to try dives where she is able to swim with other people, it is great to know she is totally bouyant and has no problems my only concern is that the straps have rubbed her this time but that was down to a fitting error, i would recommend wearing a rash vest or a good top underneath to stop the straps rubbing, all in all over 4 days she has had over 5 hours in the water wearing one and she loves it.A few odd looks from other children when she entered the local pool but the parents and lifeguards were soon asking questions when they saw her swimming well without arm bands or woggles.Another brilliant investment from Dragons Den. Brilliant Invention and would buy it again if i had more children.Have bought the bag as well so that we can keep it all together as she uses them at her swimming lessons as well as when we are swimming.

I couldn't believe it when I saw my 2.5 year old swim 2 widths on his own the first time he had one on. We used one at his swimming class and decided to buy one for our holiday, he is very confident in the water but 'inflatable' buoyancy aids hinder his movement, his swimming action is so much better with this as his position in the water is correct. He is not afraid to put his face in the water as he swims underwater anyway but I can imagine using this from a young age will get children used to having their face nearer the water when swimming and not 'out' of the water as is the case with arm bands & jackets as they are held vertical in the water. All in all a great and highly reccomended product, the Orange is a great colour choice!!Update: We had so many people asking about it on holiday I ended up selling it to someone as they could not buy one, hense I bought another one when I got home. My son only took it off for eating & going to bed - great product!

I bought this for my 4 year old daughter to help her to learn to swim. I have tried the arm bands and even the floatation vests for kids. The arm bands impaired the movement and the flotation vests were unstable especially for children and dangerous in my opinon, because if they put their heads in the water the vest hindered them from lifting their heads out of the water. However the swimfin is abosulutely amazing. My daughter normally nervous when she is in slighltly deeper water, let go of my hands withing minutes of wearing the fin. After that I just left her to it really, obviously in close proximity. She was swimming up and down the pool, even at the deep end confidently (albeit in a more vertical doggy paddle style)Now I am teaching her to move her arms out of the water and there is no restriction in movement.I would this recommend this for any child learning to swim. (it goes without saying for the parents, that supervision is still needed!)

We bought the lime green fin for our nearly 3 year old, the float itself is fantastic - he swam by himself the first time he wore it and was extremely pleased with himself, as only a toddler can be!He was able to keep it on when going down water slides on his own (both small flumes and open slides), it didn't obstruct him at all. As others have said, it allows freedom of arms and legs so they can concentrate on moving about in the water. The only issue we had with it was the velcro area wasn't long enough for him - he's a bit too small around the middle - so it was a little loose, if we pulled it tight there wasn't enough sticky velcro and a lot of flappy strap. We solved it by pulling it tight and pushing the flappy end of the strap back through the fin. As he grows it'll fit just fine, but a bit more velcro on the strap would have made this 5 stars!(If it helps anyone trying to gauge fit - at nearly three he's approx 96cm / 15kg.)

I purchased this for a large seven year old with special needs. It works perfectly and the straps still have a little more space left. He thinks it's amazing and puts it on every time with a massive grin.He can swim on both front and back with it and just float in a standing position in deeper water. He feels very secureand confident with it and I'm confident in its ability to keep him safe. (but obviously children should always be closely supervised in the water) Additionally it has freed up him arms and now he is attempting to use a proper swimming stoke which is a big step forward for him. After reading the reviews I purchased a swim t-shirt to wear with it and am very glad that i did as thestraps would be very uncomfortable without it.It has also provided the additional amusement of listening to other pool users admire it and hum the jaws theme as he passes them.

Have no doubts, have no fear... If you're thinking about buying this for your non-swimming child who needs a bit more confidence in the water, DO IT!My five year old daughter put this on for the first time, got into the water &, within half an hour, had gained the confidence to take it off before she swam her first, unaided, width! This product is fantastic! It looks cool (all the other kids want one) & really works in giving a child hands-free buoyancy & manoeuvrability whilst in the water. I can't express how brilliant this thing is!The ONLY negative I have regarding this product is that, thanks to just how good a job it does, it is pretty much redundant now as my daughter wants to show off her new found skill!I'm going to hang onto it for a few months though, just in case it's needed again. How I wish I'd invented this!

Worked very well for my 6 year old - we were worried she was going to be a bit heavy for it, but it added buoyancy brilliantly and enabled her to swim/doggy paddle unaided without panicking. This should allow her to work on her technique as she was quite nervous before, without any buoyancy aids. The velcro straps are perfect in our case, although smaller children may need them adjusting or shortening. The SwimFin allows arms to move freely, so it better than armbands or a flotation sausage in my opinion. The fin prompted a few comments from curious children in the pool, roleplaying that a shark was in the water - all in good humour. Sensitive children may not like the attention but it is really just 'dressing up'at the pool so can be couched in the right way.

This was recommended for my 3 year old grandson who wears it over a one piece short sleeved swimsuit. This avoids any discomfort from the straps which are fastened around the torso, We found that, once in the water, the straps could be given the final adjustment to ensure correct fitting. This done, the SwimFin quickly provides the bouancy, confidence and freedom that He requires to learn the leg and arm movements of swimming without the restrictive armbands or other floats. When wearing the SwimFin He barely notices it, and loves to jump into the pool to 'rescue' his Mum or Dad. Of course supervision is required but we can see that it won't be too long before he swims unaided and meanwhilewe have a lot of fun encouraging his lifesaving techniques.

A blimmin miracle!! Bought this whilst searching for swim disc's, wasn't sure of it at first but then looked on YouTube and saw what it could do! Our 3 year old loves this. At first we were trying to sort of hold him up and help him but we didn't actually help him at all! He was fine on his own and just got on with it. He figured out pretty quickly that he could doggle paddle with this on. As he gets to become a better swimmer then he will begin to raise his body naturally in the water and the swimfin will support him whatever stage he is at. And my 6 year old put this on, had a go and shot of like a gliding dolphin (albeit a very clumsy dolphin!). A fantastic product, well worth it,will take this on our hols and I might buy one for me as well!

loved this, my eldest son(5) is learning to swim and as he has started to not wear armband was doing the duck down bobbing motion..which had me in heart failure..i was of on holidays and needed something that would help him stay afloat without being armbands..it works fantasticly my middle son uses it now. and even my youngest at 21m can put it on and stay afloat.. the reason I only gave it 5 stars is due to the Velcro. my eldest is a big boy and there are no problems but my middle child is as skinny as anything /and due to this the straps seem to dig under his arms(im putting it down to him being skinny but could just as easily be another reason)but he has sore red marks under his arms after a while and wants it taken of

I was reluctant to buy one of these because my eldest daughter learnt to swim without the need for one but I'd heard such good reviews I thought I'd give it a try. My youngest had just turned 2 when we started using it but this proved too early because she simply wasn't big enough. We kept trying every few months with success 3 months before she turned 3. It puts the child in the perfect position for learning to swim and leaves their arms free to move (unlike armbands). In no time at all she had gained great confidence in it and then she shocked us all only 3 days after her third birthday by swimming completely unaided. I think she actually forgot that she wasn't wearing the fin and just went for it!Highly recommended!

The parents of my 5 year-old grandson, whose son earlier this year learned to swim reasonably well in an indoor pool, sought the advice, while in London, of the boy's swimming instructor, regarding the best flotation aid for the child while swimming in the open sea while on holiday in Malta. The SwimFin was recommended as it leaves the child's arms free to manoeuvre in the water. Besides working extremely well with just the right amount of buoyancy, it attracted the attention of other kids who excitedly associated the fin with a "shark" and asked to have a go with it! A good friend of mine asked where she could get one for her own grandson .....hence my order and another very satisfied customer and child.
