Bought it on German Amazon. A bit of history. This is my 5th phone and path to it took around 4 years. I first had bought Motorola Razr XT910 in 2011 and sold it after 3 years of usage since I simply got tired of it. Was a great phone. Then I bought LG Optimus G and cracked the screen 4 months later. Screen replacement was roughly half of the new phone price, so I bought my 3rd Android phone – Motorola Moto G instead. It was cheap and I got a bit tired of its performance (noticeably drop after LG) quite quickly, so bought Sony Z3 Compact which I had been using for 1 year. It was (and still is) brilliant, but 4.6 screen started to be too small for most mobile websites.I also cracked its back glass when I forgot to take it from my back pocket (65 EUR to replace), so decided to search for something with metal back, bigger and good-looking. When comparing 5.2 and 5.5 inch phones I noticed that screen size difference is quite noticeably while physical device sizes weren’t than different, so I decided to get a 5.5 inch model. Can’t say there is a good variety of devices available meeting my requirements, but on paper Huawei seemed to be the best. So I ordered it and have been using it for around 3 weeks now. Unfortunately, I’m not too happy, but let me start with positives first.First of all, the device is beautiful. Build quality is great and packaging is impressive too. It comes with charger (don’t act surprised), headphones (which look really good at least – haven’t tried them yet), SIM/Micro SD card compartment “opener”, manual and smart cover. Smart cover in a nice addition and looks good too. Then Huawei UI is something I believe Apple users would love – looks quite similar to iOS. Really easy to use and there are tons of features in this phone. It’s packed with latest technology which maybe iPhone 8 will have only, so it’s not a surprise. Screen is brilliant too – really crisp and colourful. If you ask me to summarizes all the strong sides of this phone – I would definitely say that these are materials, screen and software features. But, unfortunately, there is quite a list of weak points – especially if comparing it to Sony Z3. First and mostly annoying to me is performance. Nope, it’s not a slow phone, but considering that I don’t play games – I don’t have that high requirements. All I want is butter smooth browsing and using UI – can’t say it’s the case here. Occasionally it struggles to do simple things like scrolling. Then there is a battery issue. Sony Z3 could have lasted 2 days while Huawei can do 1 max only. Doubt it can survive 24 hours as it can easily drain the battery by 40% during the night (was 2-3% for Sony). I have many accounts synced, so I’m an active phone user who thinks long battery life is important. Then camera is worse than Sony’s when there isn’t enough lightning. I don’t care about it that much, but camera users might want to look at other models. And last issue I see is that some software is not optimized for Huawei. For example, Waze I’m using daily has some road pieces missing and street names can “jump” all other the screen almost every second. It’s fair to say I partly regret my choice, but since it wasn’t a cheap device – I will be using it for quite a while (until it dies itself). Will I buy Huawei again? Maybe, if they make a noticeably more powerful model with way better battery. But it’s fair to say that I won’t buy Sony again, so I can’t say I have something against Huawei brand in general. It just feels that they had to make some compromises in order to do such beautiful and thin device. In the end it's 3.5 stars to be honest, so putting 4.

Have had this phone for just over a week now, must say very impressed after I upgraded from my Samsung Note 3. I will not be going back to samsung now. The Huawei Mate S has a fantastic battery life, great screen resolution better than my old phone, the operating system is easy to navigate and use, having read some reviews that people found it difficult to use (cant see how). Being able to upgrade memory with a Micro SD card is perfect where as the new samsung s6 and other smartphones you cannot do this. The camera is great as well along with the sound quality.I would say give Huawei a chance, you will not be disappointed. You also get a leather case with the phone which was a nice surprise.Dont delay buy a Huawei TODAY.........
