It's time to save the world again by deploying the US infantry! A humanitarian crisis has developed in the fictional country of Zekistan and the US and Britain have had to step in to stop the warlords and return peace.Full Spectrum Warrior is a refreshing change in the tactical shooter genre, in that rather than you taking the shots, it is up to your two fireteams (Alpha and Bravo) to engage the enemy. Your role is to command the teams and use them together to outflank the enemy in order to complete your objectives. The control system used to make this work is very impressive. It is simple and intuitive and lets you get on with playing the game very quickly. The training missions help a lot and are good fun for once, rather than being something of a chore. Occasionally the controls are not quite precise enough during the heat of a firefight when you have to move quickly, but generally they do a great job.The gameplay typically revolves around moving your teams from cover to cover whilst taking down the various hostiles you come across. This often involves using one team to pin down the enemy whilst the other flanks around and finishes them off. Sometimes this gets a bit silly as one bad guy with an AK has got eight (four per team) heavily-armed, well trained soldiers cowering behind wrecked cars with the option of overwhelming force not being available. You have very limited grenades and no other support, so usually finding the right angle to fire at the 'tangos' is the only way to go. It is very, very satisfying to overcome a tricky firefight by using good covering fire and movement to outwit the enemy and come out on top.Where this really comes into it's own is the online co-operative mode. With a good voice comms set-up (I would suggest Roger Wilco or something similar), you and a friend control a team each and need to work in tandem to complete missions (you play through the same missions as, or instead of, the single player campaign). This works brilliantly and is excellent fun. It can get pretty laggy but it doesn't tend to effect the gameplay too much. The presentation in-game is very good. Cutscenes keep the story (what there is of it) going, and the graphics are first class and run smoothly. Sound is excellent and special mention must go to the speech. The developers have gone out of their way to get some proper voice acting done. Each of your soldiers has a personality and they bicker with each other, joke around and get just a little excited when in a tight spot (such as "get us the hell out of here, sir!"). One of my favourite lines so far has got to be "you think it's hot now, at midday it's so hot your helmet will melt right into your head".I don't know who was responsible for the voice acting of the British troops you come across in the game (typically SAS), but it is hilarious with plenty of stiff upper lip jargon. I doubt it is intentional and probably wouldn't be funny to the average American, but it sounds incredibly daft to us Brits. But it's all good stuff, and it really makes you care for your troops, which is good as any more than one wounded and it's game over and time for a reload. If one of your men is hit, another can pick him up so you can attempt to get him to a medevac to be patched up. Fail to reach him in time and he will die, meaning mission over. If more than one man is killed outright (say, by grenade or RPG blast) it's also mission over.Save games are handled by Sit Reps (Situation Report) points being available at certain points during a mission. Once the report is radioed in to your CO, your progress is saved. This also works in the online missions too (thankfully). There are problems: the aim of your soldiers is sometimes pretty appalling and can take them a while to hit a very easy target, missions can be somewhat repetitive, certain sections have pretty much only one way of getting through and until you find it frustration can get a bit much, and the odd random failure due to your men being hit by a grenade which seemed to go off miles away or at the hands of an enemy you couldn't even see make the teeth clench a bit.You also don't always feel as though you are part of a huge military machine, as your eight men are often entrusted to carry out a critical mission objective by yourselves with just rifles and a few grenades, which seems a bit silly. It's also a shame that your M203 gunner has a whopping one grenade for his launcher, unless you play on the easiest difficulty level, when it leaps up to two.But these are very minor quibbles and the overall excellence of the game overcomes it. Full Spectrum Warrior feels like a puzzle game with guns as you try to move your pieces into the right places to defeat the enemy. It is well put together, often feels very authentic and above all is a good challenge. You even get two extra missions which were not included in the Xbox version - can't be bad!

Full Spectrum Warrior is truly a one of a kind game.I bought it expecting something different and maybe not quite as intense, but I was pleasantly surprised.First off, the game isn't a shooter. It may appear to be a third person action shooter but you never directly control any units firing. In essence, it's a squad-based RTS game. You are in charge of two 4-man squads sent into hostile urban areas in the fictional middle eastern state of Zekistan. Based quite clearly on recent Iraq conflicts, you are tasked with tactically moving your squads through city environments. The whole game is based on proper Fire-and-move tactics employed by the US army. You have to position squads properly to cover eachother, suppressing enemies and defeating them by using flanking manoeuvers. While based fully on simple manoeuvers, the game is extremely intense and action-packed. Ensuring that all your men stay alive makes for a tense and nail-biting excercise. The game portrays the fear, heat and intensity of urban combat excellently throughout. You feel yourself ducking for cover as rpg rounds thunder overhead, and sigh with relief and pride when you execute a perfect flanking move and kill a squad of enemies caught unawares. The basic idea of movement, however, could possibly become slightly repetitive. At one point, I was moving both my squads carefully down a narrow street lined with wrecked cars and burnt out furniture. Suddenly one of my men, tense and scared, called out "RPG, RPG!" in panic. I frantically rushed my men to cover, their backs pressed against the corner of a bullet ridden building, ducking as a rocket hurtled down the street.I created a fire sector with my Bravo squad, trying to suppress the RPG gunner on a nearby rooftop long enough to allow my Alpha squad to negotiate the alleys and find a route round the threat. Bad move, however. As my squad leader leaned round the corner with his weapon, an rocket sailed towards him and slammed into the ground in front of him. The game went slow-mo, and showed my poor squad leader being thrown against a wall , landing in a crumpled heap, to screams of "they got the sergeant!" from my weedy private. I Quickly tried to retrieve the sergeant, but as my men were moving, a heavy gunner popped up and sent some rounds my way, pinning the squad and riddling the sand around the wounded soldier with bullets. This was truly intense, but finally my heavy gunner from Alpha managed to set up and suppress the two heavily armed enemies, giving Bravo time to pick up their leader and give him much needed aid.If you think that sounds fun, don't hesitate in giving FSW a try.Although the game is quite dated, the graphics in my opinion perfectly render the hot urban atmosphere, creating a fuzzy haze which really lends to the tensity and fear. The sound is also excellent. Gunfire sounds perfect and the weapons all have heavy, satsifying sounds. Firefights sound amazing and intense, with bullet ricochets and expletives screamed by soldiers under fire. The music is very Black Hawk Down-esque. As is the dialogue for that matter.Remember this is a war game - bloody and violent with every curse under the sun being uttered at some point. In my opinion this all lends to the realism, but steer clear if you can't cope with swearing and a little blood!overall, 4 stars - Extremely realistic, but a star off for potentially repetitive gameplay

When i play this game it is like being in an action film like black hawk down. Most people dont like this game because this isnt a '1st/3rd person shooter'... to them i say... the game wasnt ment to be.This game is pure stragy, you have to work as two teams, help each other out, suppressing fire, and out flanking a enemy to get the upper hand. The system in which this game works is point and click to more the team to a location and giving comands to open fire on an enemy, also fire isnt the best tactic, cover is the most biggist factor of the game, like peaking behind a wall, or geting infront of a car for cover of the enemys fire. All in all this game is fun and works well with people who are into strategic games. The graphics of this game are very good, the sound is super, and the realism of the charecters movements, speech and actions are fantasic, its like it is REAL! Which adds to one of the reasons of this being such a good game.

This game is so much fun! You are in command of two squads of elite military soldiers and you command them to move, shoot and cover through relistic war zones throughout the game. At first you HAVE to do about five training missions to go on to the main campaign which is a bit of a downer but the game more than makes up for it with its realism. You almost feel like your actually there commanding them!Although you cant actually aim and shoot at enemies yourself the way the squads work just makes you forget this and it looks so good. You could actually learn to be some sort of clandestine army man with this game! The graphics are okay but nothing special and it still manages to look very good. The sounds you get are immense. The gameplay is so fun you just want to do it again and again but it can be very difficult in parts. This game is a little short.

This game, although fun to play, is no match when compared to the likes of Medal of Honor, Battlefield or Call of Duty. It simply lacks the intensity of these other games and consequently is not as fun to play. As the player you get to control a combat team by issuing orders to your squad. It is a bit like Star Wars Republic Commando, but lacks this game's intensity. Supposedly it was originally intended as a combat simulator for the U.S. military but was deemed not up to spec. However, it does give you at least some idea of what it is like to fight in a squad. It also offers an alternative to the usual Rambo style gung-ho go it alone style that is often depicted in other shoot 'em up games.Overall,I enjoyed playing this game. It could have done with a few more missions, since it does not take long to complete it.

I recently purchased full spectrum warrior and have not been dissapointed. The graphics are very good and you can see the bullets fly around you and hit surrounding objects. The gameplay style is very unique.. you are in command of two teams and you have to move around a series of missions.. there are loads of missions.. completing a range of objectives. It is really good fun, and at times very intense when your units come under fire and your not prepared. It requires a stategic mind to get around opposing forces.Looking forward to trying it out on LAN whereby you can complete missions with two players however need a friend of mine to get a copy of the game first. So one player controls team 1 and one team 2 and you move around through the missions.Great game, get it!

Yes, it is not just one more FPS game. IMHO, it's something a little different, and quite realistic.Don't expect to shoot everything up, but a meticuluous thinking is needed to complete every mission. A true war sim in 3rd person and very inmersive.Graphics are pretty good as well as playability. If one thing is to be blamed, that might be the weapons sounds, which I would like to hear louder. But once in the action, you won't even notice. I'm still on the single player campaign, so I'm not sure how long is the game, but being able to play online adds to its durability.A must have for war games fans.

All the other reviews say it pretty much clear. Take Raven Shield and Black Hawk Down, remove the 1st person shoot-all-up-to-hell element, add much more stratigie and you have Full Spectrum. Dont be let down by this, strategie here is not like those games where you command a major army, supplie lines and so on. You are there, you know what you have to deal with, just figure a way to do it. Very immersive and thrilling. The interface is very good but of course you have to get used to it. One more, this game runs smoothly with my ATI 9800pro and on a 9600pro, so no usle there.
