I have been waiting for this game for a long time now, and well, what can I say...... Most screen shots of other games you see released before the game comes out are a mixture of high resolution images from the marketing or "touched up" to make them look better. Now Warrior Kings is the first game I have played that has lived up to its screen shots. This game is absolutely stunning. This is the best RTS I have ever played. The only one that comes near to it is TA and following the disappointment of Empire Earth it is good to see that there are games developers like Black Cactus that are doing interesting things.Gameplay: For me the issue with the game play was getting to grips with how the units and formations work.In games like AoE and Cossacks it's a numbers game. It does not really matter what the unit types are, the guy with the most wins. Play this way with Warrior Kings and you have problems right at the start. The tutorial gives you a hint (not a very big one) about how you should use units. Basically you have to pick the units that you are attacking with carefully. I will not tell you all here, as I think that it is best that you experiment. But, think about what you are doing.Warrior Kings also has some useful features. Like you can put a formation of archers behind a formation of spearmen and tell them to follow or guard them. This sounds simple but the combination becomes very powerful. If by any chance the enemy gets through the barrage of arrows (make sure you have a supply cart to keep them supplied) then the spearmen will finish them off, while at the same time protecting the archers. The inclusion of an RPG story line is the thing that sets Warrior Kings apart from other games. It's basically fun. Non of the levels I have played so far have been the same, I think it's the RPG story that helps this.Graphics: Just look at the screen shots to see the quality of the graphics. However, my PC is above the minimum spec (I also display at 1200 x 768), so I do not know what they are like on a P350 at 640 x 480. There are sliders and settings for removing detail from the graphics, so I should imagine that the game play will be the same. But it does not stop there, the level of detail that has gone into the animations is better than I have seen in any game and is as good as most FMV trailers that other games have. Place a farm down and you will see the farmer actually sowing the seeds!!!!!!!!!The game also has a full 3D camera (I did not spot this until day 2 of playing), I think it is a sort of advanced setting. But it allows you to move anywhere on the very large maps and get right up to the action. You even see cloud shadows crossing the landscape.Sound: The music is very high quality, film type score. There are lots of wind noises and waves crashing against the shore. I would have like to of heard more variety in the unit responses, and the text box RPG interactions have no speech, but the intro to each level does. This is the first game where I leave the music turned on.

I just wanted to show my appeciation for this game since most reviews, in my opinion, have scored it quite low.Graphics: simply superb... great detail. I don't know what else to say!Views and Movement: The UI (user interface) is fab and very simple... You can view ANY angle you desire (by using the middle mouse wheel and moving the mouse around). To get to view other locations on the map, you simply click on the area in the small map in the corner, or by moving the mouse to an edge of the screen. Control of units is easy as well. left click select and right click move. The music is also superb and very appropirate and atmospheric. The sounds are pretty good also... various noises (e.g upon selction of units)so you don't get sick of the sounds.Gameplay is great in multiplayer mode. The single player campaign is ok and tells a good story but isn't really presentated that well (just a overview map of the country you will be fighting in, with text that is also read narratively).I also own the new Warrior Kings: Battles, which is really a refined version of this. Although the story is different in WK:B the presentation of it is the same.A good detail I liked (in WK:B, can't remember if it was in the original) was that crows appear hovering over, and pecking at, dead bodies lying around (can be quite upsetting if they are your troops!).WK and WK:B are both standalone (i.e. Warrior Kings: Battles is not a Data Disk for Warrior Kings).I can't wait for the next installment of Warrior Kings - but for now, I'm trying to find other simular games of this nature... as I'm fairly new to it. Next stop, for me, is the Earth 2150 series... but I doubt I'd find a better one :(

All I can really say is this is the game I have being waiting for.The RTS genre is so stale these days it's unbelievable. The only groundbreaking RTS games in recent years have been Total Annihilation, Shogun, Black & White and debatably Age Of Empires. Now there is a new game on that list. Warrior Kings.Sure it has its flaws, mainly these are because people are trying to run it on seriously inadequate computers. It also needs you to spend time upgrading a lot of drivers, particularity video drivers. All this is a symptom of something I consider a pro for the game: It's very demanding on the machine it runs on.That's a good thing, personally I spend money on my gaming PC to be able to play games that stretch it,not games that pander to whatever was average hardware 3 years ago.It does lack a skirmish mode, but the campaign missions are so well designed that they take the place of such an option anyway. (A skirmish mode is reportedly "in the works" and will probably turn up in a future patch or add-on)The multiplayer is very finely balanced, its rare to find such variety in the choice of sides to play AND near perfect balance at the same time. For games of more than 1v1 you really need a broadband connection, but that's normal for strategy games. The multiplayer is unique in that you do not choose a side before the game, instead what you build takes you down one of the 5 paths. Because the paths share mutual early stages you can change your direction slightly (The later on the path the less you can change your direction) for example in response to an opponents path or early strategy. This game is a real experience, and hopefully a sign of things to come.

If you're bored of the standard RPG, Warrior Kings is the definitely the way forward.Impressive graphics, guidemaps and point-n-click play mean you can focus on the point of RPG's - strategy. Perhaps most gratifying was the way this game assumes you're intelligent and doesn't bog down play with endless tips, pointers and guides. There is no 'easy' level which I, as someone who's played RPG's for 20 years, appreciated - it's a challenging, engrossing game from the start. I also like the various directions you can take the game in, from focus on war to focus on alliances to focus on domestic issues. What happens in this world is truly dependant on your strategy - you don't feel as if it's just a pre-written script you're saying yes and no in.Maybe not for novices or those who dabble in RPG but for an enthusiast who's conquered Ages of Empires, Baldur's Gate, etc. Warrior Kings is the next big thing!

IF you don't mind restarting your machine every time you move up a level, and if you don't mind loading new graphics card drivers for the first day or so, and IF you have a good machine, then this is a great game. But I don't think its one for people who aren't happy to wrestle with their PC to get the optimum setup. That said, the game takes all the good bits from Conquerors (civs etc), and adds them to good storylines and meaningful player choices along the way. Best of all the detail of tactical thinking required, and the superb look of the game are big pluses. Only way to change difficulty levels is to play with the speed controls. You may want to wait for the upgrade (when is that??)to get random matches versus the computer and proper bug fixes.Oh, and you WILL need cable to get decent multiplayer matches.Enjoy! (if you feel strong enough!)

This is a great game and techincaly impressive. There are a full 28 missions to play, though these are split between 3 paths though the game, with around 8 missions per path. The missions are good and fun to play, though you get the normal RTS slowdown at the beginning of each mission as you build up your troops. The AI is not entirely dumb in the game, but occasionaly the units get consfused. These are normaly your units and not the computers. It helps if you have a resonably fast machine to run this game, and you will need a good 3D graphics card. The maps are huge and in true 3D, this is reflected in the gameplay, where troops attacking down hill have a good advantange...
