I bought this 2TB Freecom drive as a second external drive for my PC, having used an earlier Freecom drive as a local backup drive for over 5 years without any problems. In fact the old drive's condition is still rated as perfect by Hard Disk Sentinel; though I suspect that is partly due to very careful handling. I've had this new 2 TB drive for a couple of months now. It is fast, compact and almost silent, and it has a tight, secure USB connection. My only quibble with it is that the cable supplied is very short. This might be fine if you're using a laptop, but with such a short cable, finding a way to position the drive at the right height to use with a PC is a challenge.I sit mine on top of an old metal power supply case, which doesn't look very stylish (!) but does give it an additional heat sink. Ultimately the cable length is a small issue for me, since what I really care about is performance and reliability, and Freecom delivers on both. I recommend this manufacturer.

Like most Freecom drives Ive had this was very easy to setup (PC just recognised it) and has behaved flawlessly for last few months. its very quiet and needs no external power supply, getting its power via the usb port. Its tiny, and easy to carry. The cable seems fine and fits tightly in the drive - not had any issues of it coming out and its usb 3 so faster than previous Freecom drives Ive hadIf you want a case to carry it I'd recommend the 'Case Logic QHDC-101 Hard Drive Case'. Fits like a glove with no loose space around it - could have been made for it, and has an area to hold the cable.

I can thoroughly recommend this product. It was 10 times faster than the equivalent Seagate USB 3.0 drive that I returned to Amazon. It loses one star because it didn't have the indicator light as shown in the picture (unless it was faulty on my drive), so there was no way of knowing if any activity was taking place, or if it had been dismounted. Also I am not a fan of the glossy black finish as it is very prone to showing marks, fingerprints, etc and as this is an item who's main usage, as a portable drive, means that it needs to be frequently picked up, it very soon looks in a bit of a state.

So why only 4 stars? Because until it's a year or two down the line, it's impossible (in my experience) to say whether it's going to go the distance.Secondly, unlike some other previous incarnations (or makes) it doesn't come with either a built-in cable or a case. The lack of neither are deal-breakers, but I feel they would have been beneficial. If only so that you never have to fish around looking for the right cable as well as being able to keep the dust out of the USB port (on the drive).None-the-less, it reads and writes quickly & works equally well on a PC, Linux or Mac-based system.

This is a nice small very quiet drive with low power consumption & for 3 months now has worked fine. Access time & transfer speeds seem around average & at this price I am quite happy. The cable has not been an issue for me and does not fall out on my drive, indeed it fits pretty tight. The included cable fits a normal USB2 (or 3) socket on the pc, and has a USB3 connector on the drive itself, so a standard USB2 cable is no good. I have found that this drive works fine plugged into my pc's USB2 port.

What I like about these is that they work just from USB cable so no need to have to be plugged into the mains electric like old type did. Freecom also takes up little space mine I have sitting on top of my desk-top stack computer system. Great storage space too 1TB. The price is reasonable and most likeley will come down a bit in time as most electricals do when new items come of the market.

a simple, easy to use, economic solution for "back up" or storage needs. fast, versatile storage of data, recommend for "image back-up" for all windows 10 users, and space left for very big photo/files/documents/ etc.once formatted it is a walk in the park.even me a "technophobe" managed to do all this in less than 45minbrilliant product, great price.thank you freecom

Bought one of these for myself some time ago, so I have been very satisfied with it, I use it to clear my Laptop which is quite old now, now I have purchased one for a Birthday Gift, I always liked Freecom and I have a 400gb for my computer, these are nice and light to carry about, there is a good selection of cases for them, would reccomend this product.

freecom external drive arrived today as promised - amazing service - but please note - I managed to format to NFTS - the tiny instruction sheet must be well out of date - there is NO - "Start PC.exe". - other than this a very good product and your service is to be highly commended - I will purchase from you again very soon - possibly a 2tb unit

3rd Freedom External Hard Drive have purchased. Required to backup MacBook Pro,using Time Machine.Software included with drive gives option to use with Mac or Windows.Worked perfectly.4 Stars only because USB lead is very short, about 8 inches long.Did not bother me but may not be suitable for other purchasers.

Good capacity external drive. Easy to set up, works well so far. The cable supplied is NOT the one in the picture accompanying the product specifications - it is 8.5" long from tip of the USB to the tip of the end that goes into the drive, so the drive needs to be close to the laptop/computer to make a connection.

My only minor comment is that I would have preferred it formatted as NTFS rather then FAT32. I don't need all the software pre-installed on it either but that is not a particular problem. Overall it is fine and worked stariaght form the box. Reformatting to NTFS takes only a few minutes.

Have been very happy with the product and found no problems with the connections at all. USB lead could be longer but is more tha enough for laptop useage and I have survived connections to my PC with a little creative fiddling.

This mobile drive packs a lot of storage space into a compact unit. It really is plug-and-play technology, and in my experience, Freecom drives are very reliable. Highly recommended and a good price too.

I have three of these external hard drives now, they have all worked well so far, just plug them in via a usb connection and drag or send your files to the device. no other power supply needed.
