This is, basically, a Blackface Deluxe Reverb, in terms of sound and functionality, but at 23lbs, it’s almost half the weight of the equivalent 65 reissue. This amp is all digital, but to all intents and purposes, it sounds, looks and behaves just like a Deluxe. I love it! In addition, it offers two important bits of added functionality . It has a switchable output which takes the a from a nominal and pretty loud 100w (equivalent to 22w tube power) in gentle steps, right down to a front-room-friendly 0.2w. And it has a very useable balanced, compensated line out with a choice of flat response and two different mic simulations. The only question for me,as a diehard lover of classic handwired tube amps is the one of durability and repairability. Old-school amps could usually be fixed cheaply, with not much more than a soldering iron and a bit of basic electronics knowledge. I’m told all that sits inside the Tone Master Deluxe’s chassis is four small circuit boards. If any of them dies, how readily can they be replaced, l wonder, and what cost?Read full review...

Remarkable new technology from Fender has recreated the classic tube amp from the 60s without any tubes and weighing half as much as the original. The thing sounds amazing, truly indistinguishable from the original that it was modelled on. I have been a lifelong advocate of valve amps for a great sound, but this has made me turn a corner. In addition to all the original features on the front panel, this baby being digital has added a few extra features round the back, including a 5 way attenuation switch, allowing one to switch from the full 22w down to 0.2w (bedroom level!) and a balanced XLR line out with Impulse response and level control. Far out!
