We purchased this for our two yellow back turtles, who eat and poop constantly, we almost purchased the 200 model but seeing as the price difference was only a few pounds and the extra filtration on the 300 model plus flow rate that we thought GO BIG... best decision ever, we have tried and ruined three other pumps all of which were supposed to be able to cope, but they still needed a full clean every week and as the new tank is so huge, that it is far more difficult than before to do.The EHEIM ecco pro 300 offers amazing energy efficiency, great and makes things so much more convenient. The power output is ONLY 5 Watts at 600 litres p/hr and 8 Watts at 750 litres p/hr.Seriously cool seeing as this thing stays on 24/7 and its cheaper to run than far less powerful filters. It has a multi-function 3-in-1 handle: carrying + opening/closing + priming, it also has rotatable shut-off taps, large volume self-priming, practical filter baskets (very easy to set up and customise), it's extremely quiet due to ceramic components. It is practically ready to go right out of the box, it arrives fully equipped with accessories and filter media. You simply open the bags, pour it in baskets, put them in and you are ready to go. Easier than 1 2 3 or A B C, The Eccopro 300 is the largest of the three models, and can process from 60 to 300 litres of water. It took literally minutes after it had arrived to tip the media in to the baskets, attach the pipes etc, prime and run. The tank was already looking grubby after only a couple of days since having a full change, but within a couple of hours of starting this filter the tank looked amazing, the water flow is superb, it's quiet, efficient as promised (looked at SMART meter for confirmation of this) and the turltes are soooooo happy, they love it.We know the filter is overkill for the one tankand the amount of water, but with the turtles being such heavy poopers, we have found out that you need to times the water volume by four in order to keep it clean, hence the previous filters had failed, but not this baby. It is seriously effective at trapping dirt particles, which = less contaminants and so the biomedia can be left for longer Intervals between cleans. This filter really is amazing, hence the reason for my taking extra time to put plenty of information below.Pro'sLow energyEnergy saving when compared to similar filters at 15 or 20 Watt it uses 44 to 75 % less energyHigh performanceExcellent biological and mechanical filtrationOptimum water throughflowMulti-function handle (carrying + opening/closing + priming)Large volume self-primingRotatable shut-off taps for convenient handlingQuiet running due ceramic axles and sleevesPractical filter baskets (fully customisable as they can be filled according to individual tank requirements)Additional prefilter = longer cleaning intervals for the filtersLong-life elastic silicon sealing ring in pumpheadComes with accessories2 shut-off tapsOutlet elbowsInlet pipeEHEIM quality hoseInstallation accessoriesComes equipped with EHEIM filter media and (pre-filled baskets)Con'sSize - would be nice if it was smaller, but seriously how else do you create such amazing fitrationExcellent mechanical and biological filtration is achieved by optimum water throughflow. An additional prefilter captures dirt particles right at the beginning. In this way, the subsequent filter material is protected and cleaning intervals are longer. The characteristic multi-function handle is a singular beneficial feature. It fulfils 3 functions and is dependant on its position, a carrying handle or a lever for opening/closing or priming. Wrong use is rendered impossible due to the red safety catch. A little vaseline can be used if you want to make it even smoother, not that you need it, this was a tip I read somewhere. The shut-off taps are rotatable, making them more accessible, the water throughflow is adjusted by the outlet tap.The quiet running is down to EHEIM's High Performance Ceramics, (axles and sleeves of the impeller), as well as high resilience and extremely long service life. The filter canisters are equipped with practical filter baskets that can easily be removed and filled according to the individual requirements of your tank. The number of baskets is determined by the size of the filter, i.e. the ecco pro 130 = 1 basket, 200 = 2 and 300 = 3 baskets. Hence our choice for the 300, we figured the extra media would help with keeping them cean.EHEIM have a great range of filter media, take a look on their website for more info. A full range of spares if you need them are also available and an FAQ's page to help you with any issues. Initially I was hesitant as it's not cheap and the design is a bit ugly (I'm a designer). My hang filter which came with the Fluval Edge 23 litre tank* was not that noisy, but my boyfriend has really sensitive hearing and he had sleepless nights as the filter noise wakes him up, and then we have fights about getting rid of the fishes. We live in a studio so tank is not moveable to another room. So after reading many reviews, I set this up easily as per the instruction, and within minutes I could hear nothing! It works beautifully...complete silence I had to even check sometimes if it's working. The only thing I wish Eheim did was clear tubes as my tank is all white and the lego green tube is not sightly**.Other than that, as the canister is in a shelf hidden under, I shall forgive the ugly design and thank you Eheim, now the fishes are super happy and more importantly my relationship is intact!!* I know it states for 60l tank but works fine for my small tank** Replaced the green tubes with clear glass lily inflow/outflow pipes. A bit expensive but I went all this way so had to just make it perfect.

I bought this to replace a previous, but smaller, Eheim filter that had been filtering water in my aquarium for around 20 years. One issue with the previous filter was cleaning it every few weeks and ensuring that refilling and replacing the canister into the tank was achieved without getting an air lock into the pipes, particularly the outlet pipe. However the Ecco Pro 200 has a self priming mechanism, and a vastly superior head locking procedure which so far has ensured that this potential difficulty is eradicated. Cleaning and refilling is therefore so much better, which in turn makes it less tedious and me a happier bunny!Delivery was a little longer than expected from notification of despatch, but it was during the week leading upto Christmas so perhaps not too unexpected. Not the cheapest but if I get a similar lifespan from then it will definitely represent excellent value for money.

After buying and sending back 2 other filters including a fluval I bought this hoping to finally have a quiet operating filter! That is exactly what I got this thing runs really quiet, yes if there is any other noise in the room you will have to touch the filter to see if it's running! It also comes with excellent filter media, which is surprisingly expensive when bought separately, which you will have to with cheaper filters. My other filters also spilt loads of water during cleaning, the fluval was awful while disconnecting hoses ect, this thing spills about 10ml each time which is easy to deal with.Save yourself money and hassle and just buy the expensive filter that you want, this one!

This Filter is perfect for providing effective Machanical - Biological and finally Chemical Filteration once adjustments to the Manufacturer Set Up have been done to provide full cycle results with the effective removal of Ammonia, Nitrite ( Aerobic Bacteria ) but also Nitrate ( Anaerobic Bacteria ). To achieve this I did not use the media supplied but set up as follows: Bottom Tray Black Course, Blue Medium and White Sponges. Middle Tray filled only with AlfaGrog, Top Tray filled with AlfaGrog with a Carbon Pad placed at the top, then all secured and put back into the canister. Perfect Full Cycle Results of Zero across the board ??

I like the filter a lot. The self priming feature is something that no canister filter should be without, as it makes things so simple. As has been said, it doesn't come with a UK plug but I got a free one from work and fitted it myself so no real problem. I you're not very confident then get someone who is to fit one for you.Overall, it's the usual Eheim German efficiency and quality. I would say that you should choose one slightly higher rates than your tank. Eg, I got the 300 Litre rated unit to go on a 200 Litre tank. Much better to over filter than under filter (especially if you're a fish) :)

After 2.5 years, I managed to break the pivot on the handle. This is essential to the operation of the filter as it starts the suction and raises/lowers the pump head. Other reviewers have experienced the same problem and I agree with their opinion that the pivot is a weak point in the design. Another criticism of the Eheim is that after maintenance, it's a bit fiddly to get the outlet pipe at the right height and pointing the the right direction again. I replaced the filter with a Fluval 107 which has a superior priming system and comes with clamps that hold the pipes in place.

I liked this filter at first , read the reviews I'm on my second set of clips for the handle I don't force it ,I watch what I'm doing the good thing is if one side snaps the other side will hold till you get new clips , I have learned now how to remove the handle if one side snaps and one side is closed but not good if you read this review and undecided just get the eheim classic or you will be forever ordering new handle clips or new handle or even new tub . Its when you go to close the handle they tend to snap still a good filter if they can sort out the weak parts

Bought this to replace a standard fluval filter that came with my fluval 125l tank. I was having all sorts of problems with the tank and decided to try and replace the filter with this one. Ever since buying it all the problems have stopped and the filtration is so much better. It has loads of room for a variety of filtration and keep the water crystal clear. There are people who have had issues with the lid but I cant see why unless people are really heavy handed. So far its been great and couldn't recommended it any higher!

Have had tropical fish for a number of years and have always had the in tank filters supplied with the tanks and thought that you could only get external filters with the really big cabinet tanks, My old filter broke, glad I did some research into the filters available as I came across this one and it is so brilliant easy to set up and so quiet to run I can't hear a thing have to keep checking to see if it works. All the other reviews I read about this make and products are really spot on will definitely use these again.

21.2.2019

Why didn't I buy one of these years ago only had it a few days now and very impressed with it, it is so quiet very easy to install and priming is a breeze. Even after just a few days of running my aquarium water is crystal clear. The only thing i want to sue about is there is no fastening clip or anything to hold the flexible pipe to the rigid suction and return pipes but that's a minor issue. If your in the market for a new filter definatly consider buying one of these.

2.3.2014

After doing a bit of research (I was setting up an aquarium in my bedroom, so needed an external filter that was reliable, and quiet), I opted for the Ecco 300 - Eheim are a top quality brand, so I knew that I was getting the best, but took a bit of a punt as far as the noise output was concerned. I have been totally amazed - it's virtually impossible to hear it from more than 3 feet away! Dead easy to set up, too, so it's a definite 5-star rating from me.

18.10.2014

Received the filter in very good packaging. Easy to put together, however the filters and media were not used as I purchased better quality (YouTube pondguru / tynevalley aquatics for how to make filters more efficient).Within three weeks I have 22 fish in a 160L tank, one water change (testing the changing equipment), ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate are all 0.25 and under. Filter is whisper quiet, working perfectly. No complaints thus far...

1.2.2015

Runs quietly and obviously the quality you expect from eheim.my only gripe is the instruction for primingis vague you could potentially leave the handle in the down position leading to a puddle on the floor, as I see it the correct procedure is to lower the handle and as soon as water flows down inlet tube, lock handle in running position and patiently wait for filter to fill before switching on, this is not clear in instructions.

3.12.2017

It's Eheim - enough said - awesome. But if you need more - it's quiet, reliable, the seals just work, plenty of space and media supplied. I have tried many other brands and always come back to Eheim. The only thing to watch out is to make sure your pipes dont kink when the exit the filter. If you leave the pipe to long and hang it from the filter the weight of water in the pipe will eventually pull down and kink it.
