Duke Nukem came out years ago. Many years ago.I wasn`t that into Duke at the time, a bit silly for me, but the tales of lots of monsters to shoot, Doom style gameplay and nekkid ladies had me looking. I took my serious hat off and I thoroughly enjoyed the game at the time, completing it, even though it`s pretty basic stuff; shoot monsters, stare at semi-naked ladies and feel macho. This uptodate, Duke Nukem Forever, is pretty much more of the same thing, except with better graphics. By the way, this is an unashamed game for Men, or Women who don`t mind nekkid Women being had by evil Aliens, and celebrates Manliness, more on that later.Duke Nukem starts right away with the killing of a Huge alien and having fun with the twin sexy girls he`s with. From there it`s pretty predictable. The aliens (who interestingly are called Pig Cops, something from the 80`s- You have to have been there to understand) are invading... again.... because they hate Duke Nukem, much like Feminists will. The Aliens are again kidnapping our lovely ladies while horribly killing and mutilating the men. Why are the Aliens kidnapping the women? To get back at Duke AND impregnate the women for their own procreation of monsters! I think... It`s not really explained. It`s corny, but this isn`t meant to be taken seriously. Interestingly, Duke isn`t so great at rescuing the girls, more intent on just killing all the aliens. As Duke you get the use of a pistol and shotgun. Both work great and are meaty, especially the shotty up close. The shotgun is my favourite weapon so I was happy, but I agree with many that more real world weapons included would`ve been nice. I know Duke just had a shotty and pistol in the original, but I don`t see why that could not have increased the conventional weapons now. He does, however get more Alien type weapons including the shrink gun, which is funny.Duke himself gets shrunk several times resulting in some clever levels where he has to navigate whole Canteen areas and rooms to switch off dangerous appliances or help someone before returning to full size. Some levels have him driving a miniature buggy, which, again is fun, but I wish there was a 1st person mode when driving. I found the levels very intelligent and quite mature. You get the feeling they were designed for adults rather than kids. they are quite brain taxing, yet very logical. At first you feel completely stumped, but a few minutes later, you`ll be thinking, `Of course!` One level was funny because I had to fight aliens among jars of ketchup and mustard with them exploding as they got hit. Some levels can get a little annoying with the platform-esque jumping, but as I said, not so annoying to stop the game and never illogical. It was always ultimately easy and I played on the Hardest level. By the way, I completed the game on the Hardest level- It isn`t that hard. the original was harder... Hmm. sure Duke would have some sexual innuendo about my last sentence. ;PLevels go from Hotel buildings and Casinos to Alien tentacle land to underwater scapes, etc and are very well realised if functional. There was a level where duke gets knocked out and dreams he`s in a topless dance Club. It gives you an eyeful of the ladies which is all Duke, and I, expect. Nice.As I said you get the `pig cops` (an `80s thing) and other more dangerous aliens and quite a lot of HUGE aliens that you have to run around, get ammo, shoot, get more ammo- shoot, then when the huge alien weakens, you run up and button mash to rip out a horn or eye, killing it. You can even do a `Humiliation` move where you box his privates -I kid you not!Duke`s quips are sometimes funny sometimes meh! Many of his quips are from the 80s-90s fashions. For instance he says, "I`ll buy that for a Dollar` (robocop) and `You think that`s the real me- It is! (Total Recall)... His quips are more from the happening films of the time than now and will fly over the heads of many who were too young to see those years.Of course sexual innuendo is everywhere and a good laugh and just the sort of thing a proud grown man likes when killing stinking aliens. Sadly, later on, the sexy and semi nude ladies (they`re never fully naked) get scarce until you don`t get anything at all and then the game becomes the run of the mill competent FPS- Kill, kill, kill, navigate obstacles routine. What happened to the sexy ladies?I was surprised and pleased that a lot of objects can be shot through which taking cover behind a wooden box soon meant that box was chewed away and you had to run fast to more secure cover. Made things a bit tactical. AI`s not too bad, with some aliens chucking grenades at you on later levels. Others go into a weird berserk mode where they`ll hurt you bad if they get to you.Duke has several drinks and can interact with the enviroment to increase his EGO, which is his health. He has a few interesting items to help him out like the Holoduke, etc.Sounds are good. Ran fine on my PC with very short load times.Overall, much better entertainment for Men than I expected.Issues?Well who thought to put the sneak icon brighter and just below the target shoot icon in the middle? Several times in the heat of battle I`ve used the crawl icon as my target finder by accident, wondering why I was never hitting the alien. The crawl icon should`ve been out to the side edge of the screen to avoid confusing it with the crosshair! I like to crawl and shoot a lot in my FPS`.There`s a lot of levels and game, but I agree it was very linear in many parts. I played on the hardest level, but it was pretty easy to get through the game. More open areas would`ve been better.More Conventional weapons needed.More sexy, naked ladies in the later levels (heck, reasons why are easy to make up)- Oh and let us actually rescue them too. Men love doing that.It would`ve been nice if a tad more work was put into npcs, fellow soldiers, etc, sometimes they really feel like they are just there to get blown apart 2 seconds later. Men have it very rough in Duke Nukem except for Duke. Some of the ladies do too if the aliens get at them.Mandatory Steam. I don`t like Steam forced on users. However, I waited until the game was extremely cheap ( a couple of quid). I would`ve bought it on release if it hadn`t been for that, however, this time I won`t mark it down due to the cheap price I got it at.Now let`s get something clear; this game is unashamedly MACHO, just as it was 12 years ago. Once I would`ve thought nothing to it, but now I see these types of games as important for Men. Men need an outlet. Men need to express that maleness unashamedly, somewhere. They should not be vilified for liking being macho or staring at naked women in an 18-rated GAME. Soap box message over.So it`s a fun game for MEN and even women who aren`t screwed up about Men actually liking sexy girls in distress in Men`s games. `Don`t like, don`t buy it`, as Duke would say.

Okay first off, forget the biased reviews you have read about Duke Nukem Forever as I am a fan of Duke Nukem and I have been waiting since the days of Duke Nukem 3D for this game but I shall touch upon that in a minute.I am going to tell you about this wonder Collector's Edition which is probably out three Collector's Editions I own (Batman Arkham Asylum and Mortak Kombat being the other two) this is the best one to date as this is a must buy for any hardcore Duke Nukem fan, now I'm not on about any new gamer who's recently for the past couple years or so jumped on the DN bandwagon as I can guarantee you will not appreciate this as much as the hardcore DN fans. Okay so first and foremost the bust of good ole Duke, beautifully hand-crafted with the words "Carpe Nukem" inscribed on it which roughly translates to "King Nukem" and at 5 inches tall this alone tops off the Balls of Steel Edition. Also is an art book which is self explanatory and also conducts interviews with former members of 3D Realms, 2k Software and Gearbox Software which is a nice added touch and also features a few scrapped ideas. Next up is a short comic book which basically shows Duke go to some strip club and a female beer server and a homeless guy try to convince the owner that it is Duke Nukem in the bar and tell him a couple of stories which is very entertaining to read, following that is a Duke Nukem Forever stick with his Atom symbol on display, then five postcards attached to each other showing Duke Nukem doing various stuff during his 12 year hiatus, you also get a Certificate of Authenticity and a Paper craft model of Duke Nukem holding a Pig Cop's head(you have to make this yourself). Also you get two red dices which include the trademark Duke Nukem Logo, a pack of playing cards which are wonderfully designed and two Poker Chips with the DN logo, perfect if you have a few friends round and have a game of strip poker Nukem style! So all in all this is the most de facto Collector's Edition you will ever come across and if you are a diehard Duke Nukem fan then this is the Edition for you.Now swiftly moving onto the game itself, it has received quite a few bad reviews from reviewers and video gamers alike and I for one am simply astounded and I have come the conclusion that they either don't know a good quality game when they see one in terms of over the top action with the Duke Nukem humour we know and love or they are Call of Duty fanboys where if a game isn't like the almighty COD (note the sarcasm) then it sucks ass which complete and utter crap considering COD games are the most boring unimaginative games known to man.Now for me, this is the game I have been hoping for 12 long years and having played it pretty much all day I for one am very impressed and I have not been let down one single bit as yeah the graphics aren't what you would expect for a PS3 but who buys a game for it's goddamn graphics? If you answered yes then turn around and stop playing video games you Next Gen Gaming halfwit as Video Games are played for it's gameplay and if games have amazing graphics that is an added bonus but primarily games are played based upon gameplay and the gameplay is pretty damn amazing and smooth. Some gameplay mechanics include pressing up for Duke Vision (night vision), if you have a beer handy press down on the D-Pad to get enhanced toughness and press left to take some 'Roids for enhanced bruality. The only drawback I can find is that you can only have two guns but that alone isn't enough to ruin Duke Nukem Forever and if your a diehard fan of DNF who couldn't give a rats ass to the 50 weapon slots like on COD then you will still love this regardless and if you aren't you sure as hell are not a true Duke Nukem fan.Now without going much into to detail so I don't spoil the game for you, this game is what you'd expect it to me and this a tongue in cheek, over the top game first person shooter game with the Duke Nukem humour we know and love. I am not as of writing this even halfway through this game and I am loving every damn bit of it as this game is a magnificent add on to the Duke Nukem legacy. So on closing, if you are diehard Duke Nukem fan you will love this, if your not a fan of FPS's (like me) this is a very good FPS to own or if your new to the next generation of consoles then this is also a game worthy of trying out.5/5 for the Balls of Steel Edition and 5/5 for the game itself!

After 14 years of development, and being pronounced dead 2 years ago, it's an absolute miracle this has been released. Whilst nothing could live up to over a decade of hype, Duke Nukem Forever is a raucous experience, and a fine sequel to Duke Nukem 3D. Gameplay has a classic feel, and the whole experience has it tongue firmly in cheek. There are some very clever references to how long the game has taken, and how the industry has progressed since. Duke is referred to as a `relic from a different era', while modern shooters, (notably Gears of War & Halo) get torn to pieces with some hilarious comments. Key cards are no longer needed, as the man himself says whilst ripping open a door with his bare hands. The soundtrack is well produced, with variations on the classic title music. However, the voice-work really stands out. Jon St John gives the performance of a lifetime as Duke Nukem, his outrageous comments really bring the crass character to life. Quotes like "I'll make the hall of fame yet" and "It's time for some roid rage" are expertly delivered, rarely repeated and always relevant to the action on-screen.Set pieces are nicely executed, but nothing on the scale of modern shooters. Environmental puzzles are a large focus, like destroying a building to create a route with a wrecking ball. There are some nice physics based puzzles, like redistributing weight. It highlights the fact this is rarely done nowadays, and makes level designs outstanding and very memorable. Duke has borrowed from the last decade instead of remaining defiantly old school. Recharging health is in, and he can only carry 2 weapons at a time. The latter is an awkward fit, as the franchise perfectly suits the ability to get tooled up, and carry every weapon at once. There are no iron sights, although a zoom function works well. All the classic weapons make a return, but there appears to be no new additions. The Shrink Ray, RPG, Devastator and Ripper are all immediately recognisable, along with Dukes signature Gold Desert Eagle. Pipe bombs and Laser Trip Mines are well designed and effective gameplay mechanics. It was disappointing that Jetpack use is limited to an interactive cut-scene during single player. And the 'unprecedented interactivity' that was once the series selling point has been reduced to 'ego' items. Interacting with these specific objects increases Duke's ego, or total health.Levels are split into sections that can be replayed, but the entire experience is continuous. Each level begins where the last ended, which may sound like a small feature, but really adds to the immersion. The variety is staggering, and the pacing is well maintained throughout. Just as things start to get repetitive, a new element keeps things fresh. A pinball machine, air hockey, slot machines, weightlifting and a whack attack mini game are fantastic diversions. The multiplayer is also great fun. The classic Duke Match returns, along with a hilarious bottom slapping variation on capture the flag. Hopefully this will gain a solid online following.Completing the game unlocks an archive of information, chronicling the most notorious saga in video game history. A development timeline spans 15 years, and gameplay videos and trailers can be viewed from 1998 to the present day, showing the game in various forms and hinting at some intriguing elements that were cut, like a female sidekick and the return of Dr Proton. Those who aren't old enough to remember Duke Nukem will probably hate Forever, gamers who think graphics are everything certainly will. But for someone who loved Duke Nukem 3D back in the day, and have their expectations in check, this is everything we could have hoped for at this point. The finished product is in remarkably good shape (with the exception of some serious loading times) and it's the most fun I've had playing a FPS in a very long time. 14 years to be exact.

Can't believe the Duke is finally here, I'd lost hope years ago.I'll keep it simple. Do NOT go into this game with a serious mindset, especially if you didn't play the masterpiece that was Duke3D back in 1995 or whenever on DOS. This game is essentially a 90's FPS game, wrapped in a shinier package. The campaign itself isn't exactly story heavy, but neither was Duke3D. You are tasked with the same objective, save the babes. The campaign basically consists of a lot of great mini games, boss battles, semi nude girls, killing aliens, and of course, Duke's one-liners. I've struggled to find a one-liner that hasnt been Duke's own take on a famous movie quote, and they are all hilarious, quite a few from the Arnie era. In short, its just pure fun. Some areas are a bit of a grind, but thats usually leading up to a boss fight. That's also another area that excells over other generic FPS games these days, THE BOSS FIGHTS!!!!! Why oh why do shooters these days take themselves so seriously? It always ends up in a terrible scripted on the rails shooter like CoD, i.e. kill scripted enemies till a big scripted mini gun fight scene at the end, its boring. More games need to bring back the 90's style layout of games. Even Nintendo still do it a-la Mario.Multiplayer is also great fun. None of this rubbish matchmaking nonsense like most games utilise these days. It's basically been taken straight from the PC version. You can view any match you want in a list, or simply select 'quick match' for the game to find one for you. It also lets you check the ping to the hosts of the games available, which is essential in my books. This basically lets you choose how much latency you want, which is sorely missed in the days of host detection matchmaking. In short, its fantastic team-based fun. It uses the classic weapon spawn system, i.e. better weapons in harder to find places, and everyone starts with the same weapon. There is a leveling system, but not to unlock perks, oh no. You are given your own Duke bachelor pad, and this place is huge. You start off with a, lets just say "friendly" semi-naked maid, that wanders around the pad, giving plenty of opportunity for ogling if you please. There are around 60-70 unlocks for your bachelor pad, ranging from video game systems, to even more babes, with the last unlock being the Holsem Twins, an outdated but hilarious mockery of the Olsen twins. You also get your own wardrobe, allowing you to customise various parts of duke, and the colours of his clothing, similar to the customisation found in say, Halo. The bottom line is, I can only really reccommend this game to Duke fans, and those who have actually researched the game or played Duke3D. Far too many brainwashed CoD morons have bought this game expecting the next Crysis in terms of graphics, but not all games are about graphics. Mass Effect 1, Obilivion, Bioshock, all fantastic games with terrible graphics engines. They don't matter. Gameplay is classic 90's / early 00's, imagine Counter Strike, but with sprint functionality and a bad ass main character. Theres no iron sights, because you dont need them, it makes things too easy. An all round great package, especially with all the easter eggs to be found!

I have to say firstly that is one of the best priced special editions I have seen and bought and you get SO much in here:The box contains more content than what many other so-called Limited Edition games often feature. Many other Collector's Editions are often priced higher and feature less. Plus, a big feature of this `Limited Edition' is the fact that each box is in fact numbered with a production number and comes with an `Authenticity Letter' something most other so-called "Limited Editions" often leave out, and end up rarely being `Limited' as such. The Collectible Duke Nukem Bust adds a little weight to the packaging and stares out towards you if you look at it from the front. It's a nifty design and with the bust sitting at quite a reasonable size it would fit perfect on your every day work desk or study desk at home. Inside the box is a load of goodies including, 2 Red `oversized' Dice which feature the radioactive symbol. You'll also find 2 Poker Chips which also feature the same symbol on both sides, next is the Mini Duke Playing Card Deck of cards. You also get a Duke Nukem sticker, a collectible comic book that I found amusing to read and a Duke Paper craft, also is a set of visual post cards featuring Duke in a few different scenarios from boxing champ to shark tamer - sounds odd but is amusing and look out for these pictures in the game! There is a 100 page hard book cover featuring art work ranging from Duke himself to the weapons he uses, characters in the game, and enemies. The items included really help towards the enjoyment factor for Duke Nukem as they are amusing and to think this game has taken like 14 years to come to the console. With regards to the game, it is totally in keeping with the old Duke Nukem games we loved, you can only hold two weapons, there are funny items to interact with in the game, e.g. Wall Breasts and when you interact one of the comments is "Got Milk?" Purile humor but parts of the game make me laugh out loud, there are some of the old weapons like pistol, RPG, pipe bombs, etc... The graphics are not "state of the art" but you have to remember it has been made that way! It is a homage to the history of Duke, and to be honest, it is a game where you have fun, the story is quite basic, just as they always were! There are some mini-games in there to help increase your "Ego" which is essentially your health bar and you can increase this by performing certain interactions on some of the levels, games include pinball, air hockey, alien abortion.....And so to round off, this game is great! It is funny, the levels are split into sections and so it is not a game you can just complete in a couple of hours, there are some funny trophies to collect if you are interested in those, you can drive a Monster Truck later on too!!! For this price, you would be silly not to add this to your collection and if you are after a first "Collector's Edition" game you will get more than your money's worth with this purchase.

"But what about the game Duke, is it any good?""After 12 f**king years, it should be..."Those immortal words spoken by Duke near the start of the game pretty much sum up everything about Duke Nukem Forever. It's had 12 years of development and has gone through multiple development teams. So was it worth the wait?Well firstly, the Balls of Steel Edition is absolutely crammed full of goodies. Art book, comic, playing cards, Duke Nukem dice, Poker chips, decal sticker, postcards and a very good quality, sturdy Duke bust are all packed into the box and upon opening I couldn't believe how many Duke-related bonuses there were.Top marks for that and better value for money than the Fallout: New Vegas collector edition. Now onto the game:DNF is a strange mix of old and new. It plays very much like an old school FPS in the style of Doom and Wolfenstein, but has Call of Duty moments such as big flashy set pieces and regenerative health. It doesn't really hold your hand and tell you where to go (although flashing doors and waypoints help), and it has the sort of difficulty spikes that I remember from gaming in the 1990s. It's a blend that feels like it shouldn't work, but it does. And playing as the man himself is like playing the original Duke Nukem 3D for the first time again. The one liners are all present, the babes and beer are plentiful and the environments are mostly interactive. Secret rooms and homages to other games are also abundant and it really feels like a joy to explore everywhere to see what you can find. The guns also feel pleasantly meaty and powerful, much like the Duke. Even the crappy generic rock soundtrack feels satisfyingly old-school.Unfortunately it's rocky development has taken its toll. The graphics are good for say, an Xbox 360 launch game but seem dated by today's standards. The character models are fine but a lot of the environments are very blurry and pixellated at even a medium distance, let alone up close. The animations are clunky and sometimes it feels like you are controlling a tank. The load times are excrutiatingly bad and are even more noticable during respawns in the campaign mode. It can take more than a minute on some levels and it really disrupts the flow of an otherwise fast-paced kill 'em all shooter. But personally I feel an otherwise 3 star game is made up for by being so much fun to play. From finding a fully functioning pinball machine in Duke's gym, to downing a beer and punching alien scum in the teeth, from zooming around in an RC car as Mini Duke to "Quit bleeding, p*ssy!" DNF is full of laugh-out-loud moments. It's completely tounge-in-cheek and a salute to when games were about having a good time and kicking ass. It has tons of personality and hopefully now that Gearbox Software has bought the rights to Duke Nukem we will see more of Duke, and maybe it won't take another 12 years to do it this time.It might be a relic from the past, but as the saying goes, the old ones are the best.

Duke Nukem Forever is simply the most fun game I have played in years and it is all down to the strength of character brought by the man himself. Most modern shooters and games that feature adult themes have a rather nasty, anti-hero element to them but Duke is simply a good time guy who likes to enjoy his vices while blasting aliens. The whole game has an uplifting feel and never takes itself too seriously. Games like modern warfare, GTA etc try to provide immersive action through cinematic experiences but lack the joy that Duke brings. It is graphically dated, but I remember hearing of this game back in 1998 and the level design does appear to be similar to that of the original Max Payne from around 2001.The production is familiar with close character designs and physics, with even the set pieces of walking in on character conversions being traced back to that game. I think fans of 3d realms published games will appreciate that perhaps Duke Nukem Forever simply became a test-bed for other titles that they released as the influences of games like Max Payne and Prey are so strong here. The puzzles are also an area where the game shows its' age, with most involving switch flicking that became a horrible relic in gaming that has long since passed. Memories of Tomb Raider and Turok 2 came flooding back as every single level is blighted by some horrid switch puzzle that relies more on repetition than any actual skill. The default control settings are also poor on this PS3 version but thankfully in turning down the sensitivity I have found them to become perfectly weighted and it is this simple adjustment that has saved the game for me.Gameplay wise it is as good an up-date on the original Duke 3d action as anyone could hope for. The first two hours or so are dreadfully slow and I feel that too many negative reviews have been based solely upon these experiences. It soon ramps up to become an entertaining blast with wave after wave of bad guys blitzing Duke. The major baddies like Octabrains and Assault Commanders have become major battles and feel like significant events rather than forgettable confrontations. It is also generally good fun, especially with all the classic Duke lines and some new gems. I had hoped that more character interaction could have been included, but instead like Max Payne characters will talk to you...but Duke will rarely say much back. Admittedly some of the pop culture references are very old now, but they are still charming and if even not laugh out loud, keep the game light-hearted.Overall it is still a very good game, it may be a bit dated, but as anyone who plays retro games will testify, sometimes even with flaws there is simply nothing as fun as a simple blast. Anyone who liked Duke 3d or 2000's 3d shooters will probably find this a pleasant trip down memory lane, although those reared on modern shooters may wonder what the fuss is about. For me, it is the best fun I have had in years.

It's worth beginning this review with a health warning, if your offended by nudity or sexual game play stay clear and stop reading now...This game has cause much division among gamers and I'm sure will continue to do so for a while yet. I would propose that perhaps because this game been misunderstood more than anything else. If you considered this a serious game like Bioshock, or Rage you would be grossly disappointed. The most important thing is to recognise the context in which DN3D and the previous games of this franchise emerged. An era when gameplay was so limited, and graphics so shocking that 'serious' game play was never going to happen. If you had played the original you would have found the same chauvinistic male protagonist and women simply drooping at his feet that DNF delivers. In addition level designs were minimal (again like DNF) and even if you found cover glitchy game play meant you got shot regardless. To be honest Duke has always been a hedonistic, psychopath spouting one liners while getting kicks out of his own reflection. Fact. So why would you expect different now? Duke has always been offensive and controversial game, particularly so in our present culture that seems to enjoy urinating on every bonfire it can find. For someone who loved the original games it's refreshing to take a step outside the serious intensity of present FPS games out there and enjoy all the elements that make my day: Porn, beer, and gratuitous violence.**Pro's**- It's a good laugh and tribute to the original games- The one liners are awesome- Uses weapons from the original game I've still not encountered in other FPS (like shrink ray)- Female nudity (I'm a guy and enjoy this kind of thing, if you don't like it, don't buy the game because that's what Duke Nukem's always been like!).- Ridiculously sexual level design (just look at the different doors in the alien zones and the structures the topless maidens in distress are strapped to)**Con's**- If you play a lot of FPS you will probably not enjoy this game for a number of reasons including: no customisation, limited cover, often repatative game play (ie beating the same type of villains over),- Not particularly ground breaking game- Can become repetative and tedious at times for usual gamer- Not much creativity or thought seems to have really gone into this game which I agree could have been better**Verdict**When understood in context DNF is a good bit of fun. Not to be taken seriously and the level of female nudity means it will most probably appeal more to men. This game will most probably appeal to fans of the original games as a fitting tribute to what was an awesomely obscene franchise. Expect nudity, violence and a real laugh. Probably worth grabbing out of the bargin bin from your local store as it's a game to dip in an out of.

I thought these arcade shooters were long-lost. Trust the Duke to bring it back. If you want another Modern Warfare then you'll have to wait for one, because this isn't it. As long as that isn't what you're expecting then chances are you'll love this. There are a few annoyances borne of oldskool and newskool mentalities colliding. Needlessly long unskippable dialogue sequences like Half Life 2 but very dull and tokenistic (why slow the action down in a game where action comes before plot?), they've limited Duke's payload to two weapons and an unreliable melee attack so you're often burdenned with the choice of what weapons to carry which is so undukenukem, and it turns out that the optional fun extras aren't QUITE so optional.Health is now "ego" which recharges after a few seconds of being out of enemy fire but you don't get enough which suites your Modern Warfares but not an arcade gib-em-up and you have to be an unintuitive cross between conservative and rampaging. A few of the battles are very hassley and enemies dart around a lot in general so good reflexes are more important than they were in Duke Nukem 3D - and any shooter I can think of, really. But the game is good. The graphics have been shockingly unfairly judged. I found most environments to be breathtakingly well designed. The gameplay is varied and nowhere near as clunky as reviews tend to claim. I found this to be a much better sequel than Half Life 2 because it didn't all-out abandon the original appeal in favour of a brand-new brainstorm of cool ideas. I found it infinitely more fun (and visually pleasing) than Crysis. If you can't enjoy a game that isn't made in THE MOST modern engines than you won't enjoy this, but I'm sad that it's come to this.As for multiplayer - FINALLY a honest-to-goodness deathmatch experience where being a hardcore deathmatch nerd doesn't yield advantageous rewards, but only cosmetic rewards, and your only advantage is EVER your skill. Grab a weapon and run in to the fray. Again, Modern Warfare it ain't, so if you hate fast arcade multiplayer fun where anything can happen then stick to what you like. Some of the weapons are overpowered, but everyone can pick them up, so everything but skill is equal.I'm genuinely happy that someone rolled the dice and released this game. It is what it is, and the only thing opposing it is the collection of specific expectations that we gamers have amassed since the old days when we'd actually gave novel things a chance before casting our aquired-taste judgements. This game has the same price as a modest meal and it will be yours forever. Of course it's worth it. It's the only game I've played since it's release. It's a question of how open you are to accepting a new game for what it is instead of comparing it to everything you're used to.

I don't know why people dislike this game so much. I'm sure some people and probably most gaming sites are only being negative about Duke Nukem Forever because they think it's "the cool think to do" to dislike a game that has had so much hype for 12 years.I'm having a blast playing this game. It's funny, it's rude, it's inapropriate, (a nice change from current first person shooter games like Call of duty), and the general shooting and game play action is spot on. People have been critical about the graphics, I think they're way more than reasonable and again, I couldn't see what all the negative fuss was about here. Any true gamer should know that its not just graphics that make a game good anyway.I've read people don't like the fact that duke can only hold two guns at once, (he can hold enough pipe bombs, etc too though), but this gives the game a more realistic feel, and you also get to pick up and drop different weapons all the time, so to me it never feels as if you only have two guns available, because there's always something else available around on the floor after a big gun fight with various foes; so if you have to drop your shotgun in favour of a bigger gun, don't worry you'll be able to pick one up another time. Another thing I like about this game, (which I haven't heard anywhere else), is that you can blast and break a lot of items in your environment. You can pick up vase's and bins and throw them at foes, you can blast chuncks out of most pillars and walls, etc. The game really does feel a bit like Red Faction here. If people just enjoy this game for what it is, they'll love it. I think some gaming sites need to get there heads out of the sand and realise that just because a first person shooter isn't like Call of Duty or Killzone, doesn't mean that it's bad. I'm not the type of gamer who complete's the call of duty campaign mode in less than 30mins and then plays on the multiplayer every night until the early hours of the morning. I'm more of a casual gamer who wants to enjoy games but also wants to enjoy life, so I want to be able to pick up a game and start having quick-fire fun and entertainment, without having to think too hard in the process. This game is great for that.If your a fan of FPS's such as Quake 3 arena, the first Red Faction game, the Wolfenstein games, (old and new) and Rise of the Triad, you'll fine Duke Nukem Forever a great blast.I'm so glad that I bought this game and didn't listen to the bad reviews, there loss!

I'm quite surprised by quite how much negative feedback this game has got so far.Lets set a few things straight.1) The disc that arrived to me from Amazon DOES contain the game, It first requires you to set up a steam account if you don't have one. Once you've done that it starts saying "installing game from disk" which takes around 13minutes for 6gb, it then automatically downloads a patch for the game a further 5mins then allows you to start. I don't mind steam in this case because it seems I'll get patches installed from there pretty quick and automatic.2) True the graphics are dated but what did you expect? the games had a stretched out development for years of course the textures and engines going to be a bit dated. You know what I don't find that to bad it's nostalgically retro and it's really not as bad as folks are making out. I also like the way the environment is used, rain, steam, dark etc all used very well.3) Yes it's reasonably linear but of course so was the original Duke I'm glad they did not go to far off the reservation in that respect. This way someone has really thought about the objects placed around to explore about and try. The interactions are really fun so far and really true to the original Duke.I'm not to sure where this talk of being to scripted is about if you want to go around shooting people in big open spaces and free roaming then there are plenty of games like that and if you'd played the original duke you'd know that there is usually only one way through the game.4) Smut and fun parts, I love the smutty type humour in this game so far and there is plenty of it in Duke. I'm bored of the bland games all made for 10 year olds level to rake in as much cash as possible. Nice to see a game that's not afraid have a bit of sexy puerile humour :o). Oh yes and Dukes voice is perfect complete with the saying duke fans love and a lot more new ones.5) The bad? well so far it's crashed on me twice which is very annoying running windows 7 64bit and it's been a bit flaky on one of ego interaction so far as well. I've not experienced any of the slow loading issues that others have experienced at all but then I've got an SSD and everything loads nice and quickly.6) Remember don't expect the highest crysis type of graphics here, but to be honest I'm not sure why you should. This games more about relaxing and having a bit of a laugh than gazing at pretty trees and trash cans.

I can't understand why people have criticised this game so much, it really isn't that bad at all, though..it is by no means perfect either. The one thing that I blatantly dislike, which is a common compliant is the load times between dying & restarting at the last save point & that for me loses a star. You could argue as well that the aiming of weapons is quite difficult at times, but as there aren't as many enemies as other FTPs coming at you, you'll actually find that the difficult aiming is a plus that adds to the challengability as otherwise the same would be too easy.In short, Gearbox got it right here.Alot has been said as well about only being able to carry 2 weapons at a time with limited ammo,is that a bad thing really? Do people want to be challenged or not?As the game goes on & you die a few times, you'll see that the lack of weapons is good in that you have to plan what you'll be taking into the next area of the level.Essentially, people expecting a sequel from Duke 3D will find that this is actually a reboot, much in the same way Doom 3 was a few years back. The platform orientated puzzles & the driving sections are a definate plus point & people who have said that you drive aimlessly through the desert for hours must consider a 5-minute walk/drive down the road a long distance as well...there is nothing tedious about it at all, if anything, it's a highlight & plenty is going on...it's no Sunday drive in the country, believe me.Duke getting shrunk also adds a good element to the game & adds a whole new challenge when you're forced to take on enemies when your no bigger than a baked bean tin.The boss fights are very good & getting to humiliate or execute in style is a good touch, although the 2nd Octaking boss fight is exceptionally difficult & caused me to die hundreds of times & shout at it frustration, but, was eventually overcome.Oh & the last boss I think was a bit too easy.To sum up: Duke Nukem Forever is very good, it's not perfect & won't go down as an all time classic. You definateky should have played Duke 3D beforehand, but don't believe the bad reviews for a second, you just have to give it a chance.

In my opinion all of the low rated reviews are from people that were expecting too much from the game. This is only natural considering it's 12 year development cycle. So I can see their point of view. But I think the reviews stating it's the worst game they have ever played are either being overdramatic, or haven't played much of what there is out there. It's graphics ARE dated compared to modern games, but it still looked great to me. I ran it on my laptop (with nVidia GT555M graphics) at 1080p resolution with everything on highest settings. The game was smooth us butter all the time.Where it scores is the sheer variety of things to do. There's many different types of levels with different kinds of puzzles to solve. All of this interractivity is where much of the development time has been spent. Some people complained about the very linear nature of the game. For the most part you can't make any decisions about the route through the game. I actually liked this! It meant that it was always relatively clear what I have to do next, and I can just enjoy killing the baddies and progressing through the game. Even though it's linear I still found the game length to be satisfying. It was well worth the money in my opinion (I didn't pay original full price, due to holding off based on initial poor reviews, but I think it is worth full price).Good Points;- Fun!- Different kinds of puzzles- Some brilliant funny comments from Duke- Plays smoothly even on my laptop (admitedly it has fairly fast graphics hardware)- Many different Bosses to beat- Good story length- Level design is clever and well thought out. Particularly the levels where Duke is shrunk to a tiny size- Sounds are good and emerse you in the game- Good variety of weapons, and you have to figure out which weapons are good for each enemy typeBad Points:- Graphics are dated compared to modern games- Killing bosses is usually fairly repetative, and sometimes the difficulty isn't very balanced (some are too easy, some are too hard)- Some of Duke's "joke" comments are not funny- Some of the character animations look a little clunky- Only able to hold two weapons at a time

As like many people i have been waiting to play A new Duke Nukem game for years!! I have been a massive fan since Duke Nukem on the 64 and played DN: Zero Hour and DN: Time to Kill and loved all of them.I understand the production troubles this new Nukem game has had over the last decade with it getting made and to be fair i think the many developers have done a cracking job. This game bought found memories of my childhood when i would spend all my time playing Duke Nukem 64. I had collected memorobilia based around the game such as posters and the toy figures (Which i still have somewhere). Sooo to say i was a fan of Duke would be an understatement. When i first started playing this new DN game and heard the classic title track (Megadeth i think),i knew this game would rock. I Know alot of people having been banging on about the graphics and how bad they are, however i would rather play a fun and entertaining game with bad graphics than a boring game with state of the art graphics. A couple of examples of this are Cysis 2 and L.A Noire both got excellent graphics but lack on the gameplay side (My opinion).I admit the first 30 minutes i thought i was going to hate Duke Nukem forever, i really struggled to get into it. The levels based in the las Vegas casino and the Vegas street are quite terrible, the actual levels do look quite bad and not much of an enjoyment to play. But then something wierd happens, after 30 minutes the game just get awesome. The levels get more fun and detailed and very memorable. Its like a different developer took over and just improved it. Duke Nukem is very silly but entertaining, you can find porno mags, go toilet and actually pick feaces out of toilets and throw it around a room. Seriously. So please do not listen to people when they go on and on about the graphics, for once its nice to play a game that does not take it-self so seriously (like Bulletstorm) and for once play a game for the fun and entertainment factor. I would rather play Duke Nukem over the Resitance and crysis franchises. Duke may Not win awards, but its the most fun i have had in months. Thanks for reading and HAIL TO THE KING!

Wether the negative reviewers and critics like it Duke is back on our shelves and in our culture. Im not going to pretend that this game is technical perfection but lets be honest what game is. Every game that comes out these days has some sort of buggy problems, yes even the high scoring ones. I am not going to name games as i am not here to slate I am here to give praise to Duke nukem forever! This game is probably the most fun i have persoanlly ever had with a video game. As a fan of Duke, 80s action flicks, b movies and comic books this game hits the spot. And this is exactly the target audience - we have to keep that in mind. This was not made to win game of the year or get raving reviews it was made to fill a gap in the market - awesome b-movie-esque fun! There very few games these day designed purely for brainless fun. Finally when some are made they are slated like hell and selectively picked on for problems that arent really an issue and frankly plague a lot of games. If you dont like it then great you dont have to but please dont cherry pick issues. Some of the main problems people pick up on are more load screens than other modern games, texture pop, jagged edges. I havent played a single game yet of any major title apart from uncharted two that didnt feature texture problems or jaggeds and even the dreaded screen tearing(kills so many awesome top titles). Dukes problems are minor and are in no way game breaking in the slightest. The only thing that affected my playing was the load screens but the game was so damn good it made up for it. I dont believe any one can deny that DNF has some of the most inventive ideas of recent games. I will not give spoilers just believe me when i say this game will have you grinning at the pure genius of some of the levels! The comedy is adult oriented and it lets you know this within the first few seconds so this aint no kids game! Duke nukem is fun, mindless entertainment and i enjoy the heck out of it. This is coming from a guy who waits in line at midnight for call of duty launches! Sometimes you gotta let go and have some fun! Hail to the king baby
