Don Julio is a very good tequila for sipping, either iced or at room temperature.Note - I drink a lot of tequila having got through about 5 different brands in the last couple of months...DJ has a fresh nose, with citrus, agave and a bit of creaminess. It's 100% agave, which you should always look for. The taste is incredibly smooth, with very little alcohol 'burn' - even at room temperature (which is how I prefer to drink it). For me there is a lot of black pepper in the taste and it is quite complex, and changes as you drink it. I do not like this tequila for mixing into a margarita - the complexity of the creamy and pepper notes fight with the fresh citrus of the cocktail and it doesn't work as well as other tequilas. For margaritas (and even sours) I'd either save myself some money and get espolon or olmeca or get a bottle of patron silver. However for sipping it is very good.On the note of patron I generally prefer that but it's nice to have both - and Don Julio has a very different taste. However, I would't pay more than £40 for Don Julio so it's worth waiting until Amazon has it at that price. The bottle (shown) is beautiful - it has a blueish tint, it's slightly sparkly and has small glass bubble throughout. I often keep the bottle and use it as a candlestick holder. The cork is also very nice.As with all blanco tequilas, try and drink this within the first couple of months of opening, as it begins to lose some sparkle after that point.I've docked one star because it is fairly expensive (especially at the current price of around £50 a bottle) and you can get a potentially nicer and more versatile tequila a little cheaper at the moment with Patron Silver. However, don't let that put you off, if you want a sipping tequila, especially at room temperature, DJ Blanco is incredibly good. I will be buying another bottle soon.If you have any questions do post them and I'll try and get back to you. However, in short, I do recommend this tequila. I wouldn't pay more than £40 for it, but at that price it's well worth a purchase, just sip it and don't try and use it for cocktails. It has a beautiful bottle and makes a very good gift.

Although I am not a huge lover of Tequila I usually enjoy a Tequila slammer with a Mexican meal, either at home or in our local Mexican restaurant. I have become more interested in the history and origins of the drink in the company of Rick Stein and his current Road to Mexico BBC TV series – I did not realise that the Aztecs had made a version of Tequila around two thousand years ago and there is a town in Mexico called Tequila from where the drink takes it's name! The Don Julio brand has been around considerably less time as Don Julio González only founded the La Primavera distillery in 1942 – the brand is now under drinks giant Diageo's umbrella. This Don Julio Blanco is tequila in its truest form,it is 38 % alcohol by volume, and is made from 100% blue Weber agave (this is not a cactus!) - other Don Julio varieties of Tequila are barrel-aged to vary the flavour. Don Julio Blanco is a premium Tequila that is ideal to drink with Mexican food and is best enjoyed in a Tommy’s Margarita, rather than as a Tequila slammer. A 70cl bottle is currently around thirty-four pounds from Amazon and Tequila could make a good addition to your Christmas drinks cabinet bringing a taste of the sun to your Festive Season. If making a Margarita be sure to use a Triple Sec Liqueur – rather than a Triple Sec syrup – or preferably use Cointreau Liqueur; try 7 parts Tequila, 4 parts Cointreau with 3 parts Lime Juice plus a little salt around the rim of your cocktail glass.

The idea of these Tequila's is similar to a decent single malt scotch. They are for Sipping. Not throwing into a cocktail or something similar. Don Julio does the worlds best sipping Tequila the 1942 (The name ... not when it was made) and so they have the pedigree to confidently produce some of the very best tequila's. There's Anejo and Blanco. Blanco is where is in it's purest form and you get the true flavours and taste. It is rarely aged and comes with a very distinctive flavour. It's a good way to experience 'good' tequila. There are other types and I would encourage you to taste them all ... perhaps at a Tequila bar and see what works for you. Very much like Whisky where some are sweet and some are earthy and peaty. The other tequila's are a mix of cane sugars and aging to develop more interesting flavours. You're started at a great place though and I recommend this before you spend any serious money.

In my household, this clear, pure agave nectar Tequila divided opinion. I didn't like it, my Dad and brothers (over for Christmas) loved it. The finish is smooth, the flavour is very strong and the texture unusually thick. For me, the flavour was too intense for sipping, and too intrusive as a mixer. They really enjoyed the strong, almost resinous taste and favoured this neat or over ice to fully experience it. Arrives nicely boxed, and in a smart, squat bottle with s rounded stopper.

First time purchasing Don Julio Blanco Tequila, we normally purchase the Patron Silver Tequila. We purchased this as it was cheaper than the Patron. It came in a gift box and love the bottle itself, it’s eye catching. We found this light and crisp and enjoyed as a sipping Tequila, we are also partial to a Margarita too :) it is a good Tequila but for the same price ish we prefer the taste of Patron. Will buy again if on offer.

I've been a tequila 'aficionado' for years and without doubt, the 'Don' always delivers. The Blanco has a lovely sweet peppery flavour to it. It is perfect either straight up or in a long drink. Personally, I like both but Don Julio Blanco with freshly squeezed orange juice over lots of ice is heavenly!

A delicious blanco Tequila. Very smooth, very approachable drinking. Definitely not made for shots with salt and lime, this is a sipping Tequila and one made to be enjoyed. Its a premium experience with traditional taste. Lovely.

In case you don't know this is a quality tequila. Very smooth and fairly sweet. Crisp with a slight citrus flavour and just enough burn. If you enjoy good Scotch whisky then I recommend you try this. Lovely drink.

A very classic smooth and mellow sipping Tequila. In my opinion too good to have as shots but better savoured slowly. Makes first class Margaritas

Really can tell the difference between this and other cheaper brands. Smooth taste and warmth. Perfect for an evening drink.
