I have some bad memories of tequila from my yoof, which rather put me off. To be honest I wasn't aware that such a thing as "aged tequila" existed, but this is as much a departure from the cheap down-in-one-with-salt-and-lime stuff as an Islay single malt is from Bell's and Teacher's.Served as recommended with a single ice cube (even better would be some of those ice stones so the spirit is not diluted - I really must get some), this is a spirit which has complexity and can be sipped and savoured, and as well as the honeyed quality you certainly also get the character of woodiness from the aging in oak barrels. One annoyance for me (hopefully just a flaw with this particular bottle rather than generally)which results in knocking off a star is that the stopper, once the retaining cellophane was removed, keeps slowly easing its way out of the bottle by itself - on one occasion it even popped out altogether with a sound I could hear in the living room from the kitchen.

The idea of these Tequila's is similar to a decent single malt scotch. They are for Sipping. Not throwing into a cocktail or something similar. Don Julio does the worlds best sipping Tequila the 1942 (The name ... not when it was made) and so they have the pedigree to confidently produce some of the very best tequila's. There's Anejo and Blanco. Blanco is where is in it's purest form and you get the true flavours and taste. It is rarely aged and comes with a very distinctive flavour. It's a good way to experience 'good' tequila. There are other types and I would encourage you to taste them all ... perhaps at a Tequila bar and see what works for you. Very much like Whisky where some are sweet and some are earthy and peaty. The Anejo tequila is a mix of cane sugars and aging to develop more interesting flavours but it only gets the name Anejo once it's been aged. You're started at a great place though and I recommend this before you spend any serious money.

I remember drinking Tequila as a young girl in my later teens and getting bad hangovers. I'm sure it was cheap stuff not of this quality. I am pleased I was able to try this one, ans I found it nice to drink with just a little ice, you shouldn't really use mixers with this especially not the cheap ones or it will spoil the taste. It is very strong, saying that it is very smooth and you need to just sip it to taste the different blends in it. I had a distinct taste of butterscotch which my husband though was mad, but after reading the ingredients there is butterscotch in it. We had friends around last night so we opened it,my one lady friend is not keen at all on Tequila but I got her to have some and she found it quite nice although we wouldn't drink a lot of it as its very strong for us. but I have to say it's the best I have tasted and my husband.

Any Tequila I've had before has been harsh and not really worth savouring. This is an altogether different kettle of agave! Like a good malt whisky or gin, this tequila has subtle flavours and aromas that repay slow sipping rather than downing like a shot. The makers recommend drinking over one cube of ice but , frankly, I think the fullest flavours come out when drinking this on its own. There's hints of vanilla and some berries in the taste, and as the distillers say it has a nice honeyed finish. Not as complex or refined as a top quality aged malt, perhaps, but well worth trying as something different and rewarding slow tasting and sipping. The price is a bit high,as compared with similar quality gins and whiskies for example, which is why I've given it four, not five stars.

Having been a malt whisky drinker over the years I thought I'd start opening my eyes to other spirits. Having only experienced Jose Gold some 20 years ago which was pretty awful I'd thought I'd try the real thing. The nose is quite sweet, hints of butter and vanilla. It is a pretty mellow flavour which only hints at the agave when compared to more youthful tequila. Some pepper notes and spice come through and then a drying of the palate as the tannins of the oak kick in. Very smooth. In term of value for money, it is pretty expensive and I would have more fun with a single malt at the same price, but still good to have in the cupboard when I fancy something different. This is such a world away from the mass market rubbish which isn't 100% agave.I would recommend this.

Honestly I know little about tequila. Let me rephrase that, nothing about tequila. I've rarely consumed it in slammer form with salt and lemon but enjoyed it when I have although it's always felt pretty rough. I've also enjoyed it as part of a cocktail but it's not a spirit I've ever classed as a favourite or thought might be enjoyed on its own. The Don Julio Anejo made me reconsider that opinion. Although it makes a lovely ingredient in a cocktail and no doubt does the job with the traditional salt and lemon it is surprisingly smooth and sippable on it's own over some ice. It's pricey but it's easy to tell that it's a cut above more moderately priced tequila and the finer quality has the benefit of it being a bit more flexible a drink.I'd certainly try it again.

I’ve always thought of Tequila as one of those harsh spirits, drunk from shot glasses, on “lads” or “girls” nights out, or corporate events, where the objective is to get inebriated as quickly as possible.I’m so pleased I had the opportunity to try Don Julio Anejo Tequila; it has totally changed my opinion; it is a Tequila to be sipped and savoured as you would a Single Malt Whisky or a Craft Gin.Like all quality spirits, it’s better not to mix it; I enjoyed it over ice. However, sipping it neat brings out the subtle flavours, and was, for me, the most enjoyable.

I am no Tequila expert but I do like my spirits and found this very pleasant. Smooth enough to drink neat but better with ice this is not a drink you down as a shot or dilute with a cheap mixer. While definitely a spirit and Tequila it has an interesting botanical flavour without being sweet. It was nicely presented in a box and a heavy glass bottle although the cork stopper did not feel very tight after I removed the perspex seal. This will not be a major issue though as I don't see it lasting very long. An expensive treat but a quality product.

As a Californio transplant to the UK, this is basically the best bang-for-the-buck tequila you're going to find available over here. Not optimal at all, but somewhat comparable in price to what you'd find back home in the major markets. Of course, there are two or three way better anejos than this one online, but these have proven not viable options, once you see the prices. That being said, I've converted my mum's well-traveled boyfriend into a tequila-drinking buddy with this one since I've moved here, so quality-wise, it's satisfactory.

Don Julio is a brand that is a step above the rest, it is an understatement to call it great, because it is much more than that.Unlike other tequila brands, it isn't as harsh (less of the tequila pulling face). It somehow glides down the back of your throat, leaving you want more.If you're looking to take a step away from your usual supermarket bought tequila, then this is a perfect stepping stone.I recommend pairing with a glass of ice, on its own or with fresh apple juice.

I have never been a tequila drinker, usually preferring single malt whiskey. But I tried this in a Mexican restaurant and was pleasantly surprised. It’s a bit pricey but like whiskey you get what you pay for. Pleasant flavour with a mellow vanilla flavour and smooth taste. This is definitely a fine sipping tequila not the cheap junk you get as shots with lime and salt in your local bar. To me it’s a bit like comparing a cheap Bells whiskey to a fine 15vyear old single malt.

This is my favourite tequila. I've noticed it doesn't always get as much respect as some of the more fashionable brands (on the one hand), or the less commercial ones (on the other), but for my money it's the best-tasting anejo (aged) tequila I've tried. Smooth, subtle, refined, tasty. It's a fine spirit similar in quality to a good single malt whiskey, suitable for drinking neat or on the rocks. It also makes a great Old Fashioned cocktail, if that's your thing.

My brother bought me back some wonderful tasting Tequila from Mexico. I met a Mexican in Spain and she let me in on a secret: they keep all the best Tequila in Mexico. Except for this one. I was lucky I bought this bottle on a Prime Day deal, however, I will be happy to buy this again at full price as it is a wonderful tasting Tequila. For all those tequila haters, this will change your mind. The purity of the spirit alone justifies the mass followers.

I have been going to Los Angeles for 23 years, been there 30 times to date for a holiday, and I have a best friend who is mexican, a bartender and originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco. Jalisco is the state where ALL tequila comes from.He put me onto Don Julio many years ago, and if you want a smooth tequila, which doesn't burn your throat like the cheaper types do, then give this a try.As with all tequila's, it will get you drunk......so beware..!

This was my first anejo tequila having fallen in love with reposado tequilas. The flavour was quite strong to start with so I addded a splash of water that definitely helped to make this more sippable. The tequila is smooth and only a little warmth on the way down. Probably one to be enjoyed if you like your whisky. This hasn’t persuaded me to change from my usual reposado’s but I have enjoyed trying something new.
