I ignored this game for ages because it looked like one of those ones where you pet the dog, feed it and teach it tricks while it whimpers and yips at you in an irritatingly cute way. What a mistake to make! This game is the complete opposite, and oodles more fun.You take control of Jake the dog, who is rushing to rescue his next-door crush after she is kidnapped by dognappers. The aim of the game is to track her down, sometimes enlisting the help of local dogs (whose respect you can only gain by earning bones and winning mini-games against them) and collecting scents in the first-person mode known as "smell-o-vision".The graphics are great and you are free to run around 3D environments, growling, barking, chasing cats, throwing chickens about and even having a widdle or a plop in the street right in front of people, whose reactions differ depending on the area. You can also let off wind to your heart's content, or throw said doggy plop around (nice) - pointless but great fun if you want to irritate the locals. Levels include the sunny green river and fields of the farmhouse, the ski-slopes of "Lake Minniwawah" and the dirty urban streets of "Boom City".There are other kinds of dog in the game; dobermanns, St. Bernards, alsatians etc, which you need to help you collect more bones to up your status. They will only help you if you beat them in a selection of mini-games, involving either a chase, a race where you chomp as many biscuits as possible, a mimic competition, or even a peeing game, where you have to pee on as many corners as you can. It's terrific fun and even has funky music. However, this is also a downside to the game, because after a while it becomes rather routine. You'll enter a level and it'll be a) go to smell-o-vision and collect smells, b) chase local dog, c) use local dog to get another bone, d) challenge local dog to peeing game, win bone e) find an object for a human, f) leave level. It's still a lot of fun, but the lack of variety starts to kick in after a while. Also, the human characters have a knack of repeating the same phrases whenever you walk past them, and if you stand next to them for too long they start to sound like a broken record. I never believed that video games could induce violent behaviour until I heard "I LURRVE MA AXE" and "Miss Peaches talkin' at ya!" about 6,000 times in ten minutes. These are the only bad points about the game. There are actually some funny lines, for instance a sky tram operator whose brother you find injured on the mountain top says "Here's a bone boy, lucky I was saving it for when my brother got injured on the mountain top and a dog suddenly came along and saved him", and Jake himself is a likeable and cheeky character. The music is also very relaxing, verging on soft country chill music, and there are some nice vistas, particularly on the hill by the farmhouse and in the mountains.Apart from the levels becoming rather routine, this game is great fun to play and also lets you play at your own pace. Definitely worth buying for its originality and humour.

Dogs LifeYou're a dog, sound good so far? Well I trust you this game is for the younger of us. If you're in the age range from about 4-10 this game may appeal to you, but is there anything for older children, 10-15 to enjoy. There may well be, this review may make things slightly clearer for you but the only true way to discover whether you have a passion for Dogs Life is to rent it or borrow it first.Lets get to the main points. Dogs Life is a fairly easy Adventure game similar to the classic Spyro games. Like Spyro you control a creature in a platform game that doesn't jump quite like Crash Bandicoot but will glide or leap forward.Jake is our main character, a young, full of life dog that treks off on an adventure across America to rescue his true love (ahhhh). To do this you will need bones, and lots of them, to help increase your stamina. You can win them from missions, mini-games or you may just come across one in the middle of nowhere. You will meet many other dogs on your journey. All of which you will interact with, if you manage to beat them in a mini-game (featuring Doggy-Do, The Pee Marking Game and Tug O' Wars) you can place them under your command, controlling them for a set amount of time. The environment is very interactive. What other game would you find where you can make chickens lay eggs by barking at them? These levels can be explored in third person view or even first person view (Smellovision). During this mode you can locate smells on the floor to piece together parts of mini-games, you can also find where the nearest bone is. The different worlds you will meet are Clarksville (a bright village in the middle of the country, Lake Mini Wa Wa (a ski resort), and Boom City (don't ask) all accessible by the train. The controls are rather simple and Jake moves quite confidently but with several glitches. You will also learn new commands like sit, bark, beg, break dance and lie, all of which can be unlocked by playing the fun game Doggy-Do (you know those mini-games where you need to copy another characters actions, BORING)You may like Dogs Life, you may not. My sister loves it; I think it's a bit of a let down. Remember this game isn't about the gameplay, it's about being a dog and having fun.

This has got to be the king of all dog games. You play the role of Jake, a dog out to rescue the love-of-his-life from evil dognappers. Along the way you must collect bones, challenge other dogs, complete mini-games, and travel through the three different places where the final showdown awaits.Clarksville - this is the first place in the game. There are 6 places to visit here: Farm, Watermill, Big Field, Chicken Farm, Village houses and Centre. You must collect over 15 bones to progress into the next place. I found the Chicken Farm really fun - what could be better than chasing that pesky fox through the woodland, barking and then watching as the farmer cries, "Eat lead, fox fiend!"Lake Mini Wa Wa - Ooh,a ski resort. Here again, there are 6 places to visit. I liked the hotel the best - listening to that guy playing his songs nobody likes was pretty funny (especially when his audience throws tomatoes at him) Here it gets harder, 'cause you have to collect over 50 bones (I think) in order to progress to the last place.Boom City - Now here's where it gets exciting. You must travel to the dog pound (after getting a certain number of bones, of course), then rescue Daisy (Jake's 'girlfriend') inside the factory. There are 5 places here (including the finale). My favourite has to be the finale - you have to rescue Daisy quickly, turning off all the nasty machines which are attempting to kill her (I found the saw quite grisly - there's blood all over them!) before she becomes... CAT FOOD! Yes, Miss Peaches, the enemy of the game, has been responsible for the dog disappearences, capturing them from over the places and turning them into cat food! When you finish the game, there is only one annoying thing - you cannot skip the credits! It takes ages for them to end, and you have to wait until the title screen comes up again. Buy this game, it's great, funny and cool.

This was one of my favourite ps2 games! Yes you play as a dog named jake and you would think it's boring, oh but it is far from boring. You play as a dog on a farm and the love of your life gets dognapped by these two men. So your mission is to go to several places to figure out where she is. Along the way you do other missions such as leading a dog away from the train station, collecting eggs for someone, returning kittens to their home.In every map you have to find different smells. For example you have to find 15 pink smells, 11 blue and so on. You also have to collect bones. From what I remember there are three main maps and those maps have different sections that you can explore. There are certain things that you can react with like hats, vending machines, gumball machines, bins etc. Most sections have a dog that roams around. Once you collect enough bones for that specific dog you end up challenging them to a peeing completion (funny as hell when you are about 6-7 when I played it) a biscuit race (get the biscuits as fast as you can before them) or tug of war. Once you won you can control them. You would need these dogs to complete apart of the main missions. They also teach you tricks that you have to master before controlling them. This game is unique in its own way. It's different to the stealing cars and shooting people games that we are all hooked on today. It has a great story considering you play as a dog, bit of a creepy ending but everything turns out fine in the very end so whatever. The game is visually great for a ps2 game, lots to interact with, lovely and different scenes to explore. If I could play it on the ps4 I would!

Firstly this isn`t really a Dog simulator after all the plot line has you trying to rescue a lost friend from an Cruella style villian..I know some dogs are smart but that smart..?Still its the closest you get to a Dogs Life simulator at least the Character walks on all fours barks and doesn`t wear clothing. The plot line is amusing as are the various characters you meet along the way the game is more a role play game of a 101 Dalmations or babe type of character and plotline. Many of the tasks your asked to do by NPC`S are reflective of other role play games help them deal with troublesome baddies or find a lost item.Take away the unusualness of your charcter then this game is very much similarto many other RPG`s being a Dog gives it an unusual and plesent twist. The game is a lot of fun enviroments are reasonably well crafted and good looking. This game will make a plesent buy for all the family and will be enjoyed by Dog lovers and RPG gamers alike and is a must buy for any dog loving RPG gamers out there.Other parts of the manafacturers discription seem slightly misleading I am sure there is no were near that many breeds to control and in truth you only get to control other Dogs and therefore breeds for short mission related periods would have been a nice touch if the other breeds had been either available from the get go an unlock treat or a skin change cheat. One other minor gripe the story is based in the USA so why are all the cars right hand drives that drive on the wrong side of the road (for U S drivers)Otherwise great game great buy.

What an amazing concept for a game! Wandering the local area collecting 'scents' to gain bones and points whilst looking for your love Daisy who has been kidnapped for reasons you shall later discover within the game!Everything about this game is adorable and is hilarious as points. I particularly enjoyed being able to poop on cars and the likes - there is a lot of fun and laughs involved in playing this. As well as the funnier and less necessary side to the game, everything is dog related. Compete with other local dogs to gain bones in challenges such as peeing to mark territory, racing whilst eating dog treats, and once more collecting scents. Not only will this game prove fun for children (young and more mature),but also I can see adults finding a lot of fun in it. I found my parents laughing hysterically at what I could get up to with Jake on my quest to find my true love! And despite the concept and jokey side, this game is relatively challenging too. Parts did genuinely stump me and it did take me a while to work out sections of the game which is fantastic in my opinion. This is far from being a push over.As well as the above the graphics are brilliant. You are viewing everything from Jake's world, and what a brilliantly created world that is! Colourful, interesting, and just the way you'd wish a game to be! I particularly loved the different coloured scents, and the exclamations the dog gives to smelling each one. Legendary game!

I received this game today and I am already addicted to it! I just want to keep playing it! No school, no chores, no clothes! It's great being a dog! It's true! You can bacially do anything a dog can do. Dig, fetch, swim, beg, hunt, mark territory, even foul the streets! (you can pooh or wee!!) You even have a smellovision mode which allows you to see the world though Jake's eyes. You can also control other dogs. This may actually come in handy when doing a hard mission! The graphics are really good and the controls are easy to get the hang of. I don't know all the controls yet so there is probably a lot of stuff still to do but you learn as the game goes on.The basic story - One of Jake's pals has been dog-napped and Jake won't rest until he has caught the dog-nappers! This is a fun free roaming game and it is very additive. You also have to do missions for people and you get rewards in return - bones! (e.g. rounding up sheep) The more bones you get the more popular you become! Some of the missions are easy, some are quite hard. This game is also quite funny. When the game started Jake just kept farting!! It was hilarious! I recommend this game, I know it's for 3+ but if you ask me I think this game is for all ages. Buy it! You won't regret it!P.S. I forgot to mention - The dog (Jake) talks!

Bought this game for my grandaughter and loved it myself so much. As I kept interfering and taking over she informed me to buy my own!!!!! Which I immediately did. It's a hilarious but at times can be challenging game where you play the part of an adorable dog called Jake. You choose which kennel to send him through for different adventures but the main aim for Jake is to find his true love who has been doggy knapped! He meets lots of different people, plays games to collect bones, e.g. tug of war or peeing competitions with other dog!!!!My younger grandaughter, age 4, just loves to run Jake about all over the place, visiting different areas but she does try the challenges although she doesnt do so well at them as her older sister, age 6! She still loves it though. But me.....I think it is totally brilliant.Suitable, therefore for all ages, whether they want the fun of playing with their virtual pet or older children who can go further with it playing and competing the adventures! Adults, you will love it just as much as me!! Even entertaining for others to watch!Well worth buying.

This was one of the first games I've ever had, I've had it since I got my playstation which was probably over four years ago, and I'm still playing it now, I must have finished it at least twenty times! In this game you play Jake-who i think is a foxhound-a dog that always has something to say. He is on a mission to foil Miss Peaches the cat food maker's plan (you'll have to find out what that is yourself) and rescue Daisy the dog and win her heart. On the way you will meet children, police officers, postmen, butchers and thieves, who you will need to interact with in order to earn enough bones to get the better of other dogs and control them to help you in your search for Daisy. You can do practically anything in this game that a real dog can do,including run, jump, beg, mark your territory and even go number two! The sense of humour and wit in this game is huge and small children will enjoy just making Jake run around in circles while older children and adults will enjoy the actual game and may be tempted to play around themselves a bit too. Over all, this is a brilliant game. :)

I bought this game a while ago and couldn't wait to play it! As soon as I got home, the disk was in the PS2 and I was away. I found this game really good - good graphics, good gameplay, good EVERYTHING! I was glad I had bought it (although I had to spend £30 on it - making my money reach nil afterwards) and I still love playing it now. The three different places (Clarksville, Lake Mini Wa Wa and Boom City) are huge and full of mini-games, bones and other dogs!I found the discovery on the last level quite disturbing... Imagine a seemingly-nice woman like Miss Peaches who turns out to be a mean old witch turning dogs into...(Find out what - PLAY THIS GAME!)My favourite place is the Dog Pound - the game developers made it look really intimidating and scary - red sky, owls hooting, crows cawing, dogs trapped in cages, and not to mention the dog catcher's dog chasing after you! I have only one word for those who haven't got this game... BUY, BUY, BUY!

Dog's Life is really a very simple yet effective plot. A dog called jake lives on a farm with his 'girlfriend' dog Daisy and when Daisy is kidnapped, and jake has to save her. There are 3 main places to explore, Clarksville ( Jake's home in a sleepy country village ) , Lake Miniwahwah ( A ski resort in the snowy mountains ) , and Boom City ( A busy city where it always rains ) , which all have individual storylines, and the objective is simply to find and rescue Daisy from the sinister Miss Peaches.Probably the only game for Playstation 2 that centers around a smelly pooch, the animation on Jake and the other dogs is pretty good. The only downside is the blocky, simple minded people who wander around the cities aimlessly + say the same sentance over + over.Altogether, I think Dog's Life is a fantastic game for young children, and maybe even their parents, and definatly deserves the 5 stars.

Im not sure if this review will be biased or not... due to the fact im a 19 year old girl playing a game made for children aged 3+ ....All the same, i'll review it :)I played this game for the first time when i was about 9 and i absolutely loved it, i wanted to be a vet when i was younger and i adored all animals, especially dogs, so i saw this game advertised and decided to get it.Now to go forward in time.... 19 years old, remembered this game from when i was younger, decided to go ahead and rebuy it and have a play.Well, like i said, as a much older person now, i wasn't surprised i got a little bored after a while. Its now an old game so not many people will be at all interested, its all about xbox 360's and ps3's now.But i would recommend this game to younger children, generally i'd say 12 years old and younger.I feel anyone over the age of 12 may be wasting there money.

Dog's Life is a very obscure PS2 title, and one would think it's disasterous, but after gaining such positive feedback from critics worldwide, one can't complain about how well it does things. Dog's Life follows the story of Jake who must rescue his love Daisy from evil Dog Nappers. What I love about this is how well the story flows, and how Jake eventually reaches the girl of his dreams. It's a unique platform/adventure game with several puzzles, races and general problem solving things, but with dogs! As boring as that may sound, you can crack out well over 30+ hours of content and it has HUGE replayability levels! And by 30+ hours,I mean more than a week for the average player/gamer.The Verdict:8 out of 9 - a hilarious game with some great features, but can get repetitive. And it's the only game where you can poop, and watch it in detail!

In "Dogs Life" You control 'Jake', the dog. Use Smellovision to collect smells in each level to earn bones which you will need more and more of through out the game to be dominant over each local dog in the towns and cities. Once you have beaten the local dog in some sort of competiton or another you will be able to control this dog for a limited amount of time. Use each dog to your advantage in the game by finding out it's skills and using them to do things that Jake cant eg. fit through small spaces, move heavy objects etc. collect more bones to travel to the next level and eventually reach the dog pound to save all your friends and the love of your life, daisy!I was so addicted to the game that I finished it in 3 days! A great fun Game that you will miss once your finished!
