I would have preferred to give a 4.5 but that is not possible. While I share the positive feelings of the other reviewers the story and the new characters let me down. Otherwise this game is the best Disgaea game without a doubt so far. I decided to give it a 5 in the end based on my love towards the original disgaea game, Laharl, Etna and Flonne and the brilliant new gameplay changes. I will try to cut to the chase in each area of the game and address the facts that disgaea fans will be interested in.StoryFirst let's get the negative out of the way first. If you are new to disgaea then welcome if you are a fan of games such as fire emblem or perhaps devil survivor then you will feel welcome here amongst SRPG fans. You will probably enjoy this story much more than I did and you don't need to play the first game at all to get into it as there are barely any references from the first game and a lot of the characters from the first game are missing. Gordon, Jennifer, Thursday and Kurtis. I have to be brutally honest the new sibling characters were not only not as interesting or funny but they felt extremely out of place with Laharl, Etna and Flonne that the clever comedy from the first was sometimes lacking when the new characters got involved. You can overlook the plot holes and the new character's cliche design thankfully due to the great dialogue between Etna, Flonne and Laharl. The story is relatively short and you should be able to beat it within 25-40 hours depending on how used you are to the system I myself beat it in 30. A great new mechanic is introduced in the story where the main cast can chat to one another during battle unfortunately the main cast is only 4 characters. The story is still great overall and while I feel that ep 4 could have been expanded upon especially as there was a lot of hype for a character that only appeared shortly in one chapter. Also other fans feel it was a missed opportunity as well. However I do realise this is just a fan spin off to celebrate NISA's existence and to say a final farewell to Laharl, etna and Flonne so it was a great edition to the disgaea series. 4/5GameplayNow with the negative out of the way I can focus on the rest of the game. Disgaea D2's story is only a small portion of the game and good news for those with less time to spare, the game is less time wasting but plenty of grinding to do still especially if you want to beat Baal. While it's sad to see the magi-change disappear which we had gotten used to from Disgaea 3 and the character world is gone. Mounting monster's replaces it and isn't exactly the best replacement it doesn't matter as other area's of the game have vastly improved. If you feel you are getting too much mana and want more experience or money then you can toggle on the meters at a new shop whenever you want without passing a bill and the same goes for raising the monster's level. LoC is unlocked after main story without having to do anything troublesome like find ship pieces and a new Raesetsu mode for those fans who find LoC too easy. Also more control over the item world! You can even control the floor sizes and to opt to remove geo panels for those of you who are sick of getting stuck due to enemies having an unfair advantage.Great changes and the new revamped combo system is excellent too, it will take a while to get used to not being able to fuse or to magi-change anymore but the new abilities will make up for it. I hope to see this in the new disgaea, these are the best changes yet and allow you to focus more on actual grinding rather then doing the last 10 floors of the item world until your eyes bleed praying for a certain item to drop.5/5GraphicsIf you like anime-style graphics you will feel right at home here and the sprites have been fine tuned even further. My only criticism is that for a certain story character I really wish they didn't make her design a generic character you can make yourself it was a huge waste as I love their character designs. 5/5SoundtrackHaven't come across a bad NISA soundtrack before and this tradition continues and with the ability to randomise your tracks in the item world you will not being getting bored of them anytime soon apart from maybe the Rosenqueen shop, I have heard that track far too often. The soundtrack is just plain awesome as usual. 5/5Difficultly progressionThis is for those new to Disgaea it does spike a couple of times in the story but if you are planning to stop playing the game after you finish the story you won't have to grind much at all. I did a bit for the big bad just to be on the safe side but in Disgaea you can control how difficult you want to make the game. It can be as easy or as hard as you like. 5/5OverallIf you lack time and want an incredible story with harder gameplay and own a 3DS I would advise you to purchase fire emblem Awakening another incredible SRPG. If you don't mind a time sink game and love freedom and variety then pick Disgaea D2 despite my criticism earlier it is a superb game. If you can pick both. 4.5/5

I'm not very good at writing reviews, but with Disgaea D2, I simply have to.The game is really amazing and highly addictive. Just today I played for 4 hours straight. When you first start to play, it's very hard to put it down. There are tons of thing to do in Disgaea D2: Leveling, item Scavenging, Item World, story, more leveling etc.I also like how they made all of the monsters available as mounts, they really add a good deal of strategy to the game. It's also fun to create monsters and use them, where some of the previous installments didn't succeed at this.Normally I'm not so much into strategy games, but Disgaea is the exception. I freaking love this game.A lot of times you really have to think about what you are doing. Succeeding at a 3 team attack and utterly destroying your enemy is amazingly rewarding. Other times you will almost slap yourself, when you destroy a geosphere and kill one of your characters.Even though I have only played till chapter 5, I am having the time of my life. This game will keep me entertained for weeks, if not months to come. I won't spoil the story, because I have only played a portion of it and you have to experience it for yourself. The game is still really funny and a lot of the jokes gives you a good laugh. Especially the evil twisted Etna. It's nice to see the trio in Disgaea once again and this really feels like a worthy sequel to Hour of Darkness. If you are new to the series and like anime, strategy games or endless fun games, then I would highly recommend this to you.If you are into Disgaea already, why haven't you purchased D2 yet? It's a must have for all fans of the Netherworld!Do it Dood!!!

In my opinion this is by far the best game in the series which began all those years ago with a concept called La Pucelle: Tactics. The art work, featuring the creations of Takehito Harada, is as quirky and superbly executed as ever with in-game humour to match. But most of all, the game play is so compelling with scope to change the emphasis of rewards and colour schemes as required. For Disgaea fans, this is a must have. The deeper you delve into the game, the greater the rewards ... and you can make the game as challenging as you like by upgrading all those enemies. For those not familiar with the series, it's well worth giving it a try.Disgaea is a classic series with two entries in "1001 Video Games You Must Play Before You Die" a book produced by Quintessence (London) - a very good read, by the way. (Check Amazon books)Based purely my own experiences, the game is better played using a disc (without any problems) as opposed to a download (where one or two frustrating glitches were experienced for reasons unknown - even after several downloads!). In fact, with any console game, I suggest you use a quality disc version where possible. All the best.

I have been a fan off Nippon Ichi ever since La Pucelle. This one may be the best so far.It looks good and sounds good and is just as addictive as all the others. Watch out for RSI.The amount of detail you get about your characters is greater than ever to match the level of customisability. So it's much easier to keep track of the number of reincarnations etc. The levelling up system is much easier, with a Demon Dojo to replace the Chara world. The item world is less complex than in previous games, as is achieving the Land of Carnage mode. The ability to apply "cheats" (actually built into the game) makes up for it though. You can switch off those pesky pirates when you've had enough of them. The monsters are less relevant than ever, which is a bit of a downer. It's just much easier to play the levels using humanoid characters alone. Some of the characters voices are rather annoying, and I miss the male heavy knights, but this doesn't spoil the game play.If you like the kind of games in which dungeon crawling alternates with micromanagement of character development, you'll love this.

Having spent a lot of time with the first installment of Disgaea for PS2, I had very high expectations of Disgaea D2. I'm glad to say I'm not disappointed so far (over 20 hours of gameplay). First of all, my favourite characters from D1 (Laharl, Etna and Flonne) are back. The story is interesting and funny, and doesn't serve only as an excuse for endless grinding. Battles are challenging but you can always level up your team in the item world, and then defeat those selfish demons standing in your way to being the Overlord of the whole Netherworld. If you are new to the series, you may not understand some of the references to the first game, but if you are looking for a complex strategy RPG with a good story, look no further. Or you may always try the remakes of the original Disgaea for DS or PSP first.

Always a fan of this series and this one doesn't disappoint as far as I'm concerned, I would go as far as saying that this is one of the best so far.The story behind it is entertaining and well thought out and like previous titles offers hours upon hours of gameplay thanks to the item world and land of carnage features, but it also adds a cheat shop which unlocks as you progress though the main and post story levels, one of the many features lets you increase the overall difficulty of the enemies which adds another layer to the game without going onto the land of carnage option.Filled with amusing dialogue and its traditional graphic style D2 doesn't fail to deliver on gameplay andenjoyment.

If you've played a previous game in the series this is more of the same. The old cast are back and the writing is back up to scratch.A lot of the new features work and I think NIS have finally found what they're looking for after some of the awful changes they made in Disgaea 3. The classes feel balanced, and the weapon system isn't as awful as Disgaea 3.If you were turned off from Disgaea 3 and enjoyed 4 then definitely pick this up.Most of all I'm looking forward to a mobile port in a few years running on the D5 engine. It'll certainly be worth it then. Sadly I don't have over 3000+ hours to sink into this game like I did with the original.

Disgaea D2 has everything you look for in a disgaea game. It's funny and engaging, the old characters cast is great and feels exactly the same as all those years ago. The game cherry-picks some of the best features that have been introduced to the disgaea series in Disgaea 2-3-4 and removes a few annoyances that have plagued the series for years, to give us a game that is gameplay-wise the best Disgaea ever.

I bought this years ago, and it's still something I find myself coming back to, gridning a little to get at that FINAL boss. The game is insanely replayable and has all the fun from the other 4 games wrapped well into this one, and with so much more added. It's almost embarassing how much time I have logged on my save.It is still today the most rewarding game purchase I've made.

1.12.2013

A lot of new additions added into the game you may not notice at first but if you didn't like the others there no change to everthing else it's disgea thou and thou

New tweaks on many of the game systems & set after the original game with all of your beloved characters from the beginning of the series, excellent.
