This is a replacement for a Sony Walkman NWZ-E475 E Series, no volume restrictions ( Canadian import ) bought in 2013 off Amazon with a Fiio E11 kilimanjaro which at the time you could and still can replace the battery which I have done Once, both still work EXCELLENT.That over with, Now what I think of the Cowon Plenue D2,I am no Audiophile by any means and will leave that to others who are far better than me, What HiFi winner 2019Sound and build quality 5* Touchscreen 3*,I have Downloaded 45 albums all FLAC using windows 10 Media Player some of which are compilation ( 3cd's ) and only used 16.5 Gb's of the internal 64Gb, this can be checked once installed by going into your settings on the D2,Also if you touch the bottom of the screen while the track is playing it will show Info on it including Flac / kbps for that track, and assuming any other Format used,As advised Elsewhere on initial Start up Click on English, then Non European, also if you want Go to settings and disable Headphones Limiting, which lifts the restrictions with a warning,Me myself I just wanted Music player No bell's and whistles, I can put up with Touchscreen scrolling issues and some of the Icons used to Navigate are confusing, although not as bad as I was led to believe and will get used to it the more it is used,If Cowon fixed the Screen Issues including changing some of the Icons used then I would give this 5☆+ out of 5, but it still gets a 4.5 out of 5 Overall.

Having had a Sony Walkman and CD player many years ago, this was my first portable MP3 player and can't get over how small it is! I see there are some by other manufacturers on sale for £1000+, but don't see how this Plenue D2 could be bettered.Build - another reviewer has mentioned a problem with the build - mine is fine.Sound quality - superb - I listen to classical music on it through Bose noise cancelling earphones.Battery life - early days yet, but seems excellent.User interface - no problems, but if you have large clumsy fingers like me, you will need to use a stylus touch pen. The screen is clear but very small and my first navigation attempts using my fingers were hopeless.Adding a Micro SD card - I added a 64 GB card - formatted it using Windows and it didn't work,so downloaded the formatting software recommended by Cowon and that worked perfectly.Screen protector - the Cowon version costs around £10 each - I bought a set of 6 from protectionfilms24 (through Amazon) for £1.99. They are advertised for the older Plenue D model, but the screen size on the new model is the same and they fit perfectly.Nothing much more to say, really - I spent quite a bit of time researching what was around, looking at reviews etc and this Cowon Plenue D2 has received some very good reviews and I am very happy with it. Strongly recommended!

I was pleasantly surprised by the high audio quality of this relatively inexpensive DAP. The key to this is its tone which is warm, fat and lush; through a pair of B&W P7s everything has a liquid quality - not exactly neutral but with a pleasant dollop of honey to the whole proceedings. This also sounds very nice through a tube-based hifi system, again the warmth coming through in an engaging mannerThat said, bear in mind that it is still a cheapo and that implies drawbacks. The sound is often quite congested, bordering on muddy at times and lacking in the detail exposed by more expensive players. I also have an Astell&Kern AK120 MkI which in its day (2013) was 5 times the price of the D2 and it shows. The AK120 delivers a you-are-there-in-the-studio experience with a much more realistic texture to the instruments. You won’t get any of that from one of the cheaper players like the D2.Thus I can recommend this to its target market, namely those who want a relatively good sound but for a cheap price. Those who care but don’t REALLY care. For the audiophiles out there, I’m sorry to say that you’ll still need to spend significantly more to get objectively good sound.

So far, I am impressed by the Cowon PD2. It is smaller than you think but I found it easy to operate its touch controls. It plays all the files I have put on it including normal and hi-definition audio files, in both ALAC and FLAC formats. It comes with some samples files in its 64Gb of memory, but I have found it enough to put most of my favourite music on it without even using a memory card. I will be adding another 64Gbyte card for the rest of my files soon. And lots of equaliser settings which should allow most type of headphones to be used and have their sound sorted out. The BBE setting is quite useful for brightening up the sound from my slighty dull sounding headphones.I think you can save headphone-specific settings but I haven't figured out how yet!Its battery life is very good - 30 or more hours is quoted. I played with it all day and the battery indicator barely changed from showing full.Definitely better than my old iPod!

Having read various reviews online about the D2, I decided to take the plunge (especially after the Sony NWA45 previously purchased : Appalling OS and refusal to import playlists, which is frankly unforgivable). The difference couldn't be greater. The D2 has a fantastic sound stage, great resolution, power aplenty, and enough tweakable parameters to keep most folk happy. Moreover, it accurately reproduces cymbals (hear your crash & rides as they sound in the recording room) and is revealing enough to uncover detail in familiar songs which haven't been heard before !I would heartily recommend the D2, and would buy again.

interface is a joke, probably faulty, almost uncontrollable sometimes, it keeps jumping between screens, functions tapped uncontrollably, a real nightmare... but the sound is magical, crisp, transparent. so 4 stars instead of 5.

Good soud, nice and small easily fits in pocket, easy to install music.I'm finding user interface awkward, maybe because I've been using a Zen for last 10 years, maybe because I'm old and not very good with modern gadgets.
