There have been many comparisons to what this game is like, is it gta with zombies? is it resident evil without the dark areas and jumping moments, and to be quite honest it defines itself in a new genre, just like shaun of the dead did being a rom-com-zom (romantic comedy zombie film) this is a zom-rpg-tps-zandbox hybrid (zombie, role-playing, third person shooter, open-ended game)The story is as you'd expect from a dawn of the dead knock-off, Frank West (the main character you control) is a reporter who hears about the story of a lifetime and so gets dropped off by helicopter into this town (unbeknown by him at the time populated by zombies) and tells the helicopter driver to pick him up in three days, and then the story goes from there. The great advantage with this game and it's biggest weakness is this system, you have a 72hour limit in which you can create your own path, want to know how this zombie epidemic occured? or do you just want to mash up zombie's mindlessly? the choice is completely down to you, but the problem is you don't have the chance to really do both, there are multiple endings to the game which may insight some gamers to try out different things, but there's mostly no point. The gameplay is either great or incredibly fustrating depending on your view, generally most actions/attacks are done with the X button, this makes it easy but it can sometimes feeling like a button masher, Frank will upgrade and become stronger with or without weapons by doing certain tasks like killing lots and lots and lots of zombies or rescuing other survivors throughout the mall - these parts tend to be the most annoying part of the game, but are again optional. Saving the game has to be the worst part of the game, you can only have one save, thats it, and because your constantly running on a time limit if you save the game too far away from your objective with little time left you'll probably have to start the game again, luckily your all of the upgrades Frank has will be carried over so this helps, but in no way excuses the system from being down-right terrible. In conclusion, this game desite some minor and major flaws is one of the best on the 360, killing zombies with a chainsaw NEVER GETS OLD, and the freeform gameplay does mean you can dictate what happens. If you have the time to put into this game it will reward you with hours of enjoyment, but even if you don't you'll still enjoy sticking hangers into zombies faces.

I have NEVER completed this game, and this is nothing to do with my level of gaming, or the lack of a good story, it has more to do with how much freakin' fun it is to just go on a bit of a rampage.Every so often i will look through my 360 collection looking for a game to pass the time, and nearly every time i pick up Dead Rising i get about three missions in an end up beating the stuffing out the zombies with a big plastic sword. And every time i play i find new areas, just last week i walked into a multi screen cinema and found about thirty or so zombies just wandering around. The controls are easy, and the breakable weapons are realistic, if a little frustrating at times. It can be annoying to be in the middle of a whomping session only to find that you have approx. 1 weapon left, and it is a lego brick or something and you have to run off and find another weapon. Luckily they are in an abundance. The enemies range from the plain stupid, for example they continuously wander into your lawn mower, to the pretty intelligent and it makes the game more immersive to have it set in an environment everyone knows and to have zombie "characters" based on the staff and customers at the mall. The story as far as i have got, which isn't far to be honest, is a good ol' zombie story so far, and isn't the reason i dont play through the missions. So in conclusion i would say that there are two reasons you would play this game. One is for the pure fun of using everyday objects to hack and slash your way through the enemies, are if you are looking for a story driven zombie game, which is not as serious as others, such as Resident Evil or Silent Hill.

Dead Rising is really an unofficial adaptation of Dawn of the Dead. The premise concernes Frank West, a photojournalist who has crossed an army blockade to find out what's going on in a small town cut off from the outside world. You find yourself inside a shopping mall with hundreds of very gory looking zombies with the aim of surviving for three days until a helicopter comes to pick you up. Other than meeting the helicopter there are no set objectives, accomplishing certain things will allow you to discover different stories unfolding within the mall. You will also be able to rescue and interact with other survivors, kill zombies or just hide out on the roof where it's safe for three days.Different things will earn you power points allowing you to level up and earn new skills. Power points can be earnt by killing zombies, photographing zombies, rescuing people and pretty much anything else you actually accomplish. Hundreds of different objects in the mall can be interacted with, mostly as weapons. CDs, baseball bats, toy swords and even a lawnmower are at your disposal. The game also looks wonderful, the zombies are rendered onscreen effectively, they look wonderful and there are no framerate issues. Character models are all great and the scenery looks wonderful too.Dead Rising is the ultimate free roaming game, the environment is limited but within it you can play the game exactly as you choose. It could very well be a sign of amazing things to come and it's worth a play for anyone with a good sense of humour.

I have had this game since I first bought my 360 years ago, and it is the only title I have never even been slightly tempted to trade in or sell. It is that good. I am a fan of Capcom's survival horror games, especially RE, RE2 and Nemesis, and was dying to try a 3rd person game made in a similar vein - and I just wasn't disappointed.People whine on about the savepoints etc, but to me they just are the sort of gamers who demand an easy mode for all their games. There is NOTHING wrong with the saving in this game, and anyone used to the old "look for a typewriter" RE savestyle will totally understand where Capcom are coming from. There are toilets everywhere in the mall, and that is where you save. How hard is that to understand?Great graphics, some genuinely funny lol moments, one of the best "heroes" ever made - Frank West - and thousands upon thousands of zombies to kill in dozens of different ways. The best thing for me is that it has that whole Capcom feel going on with the extra stuff you can unlock in the game itself and extra game modes - 72 hour survival is just great, and the clothes unlocks you get always make you feel good. No, I just cannot recommend this game enough, and at the cheap price it is now at, get this before you get Dead Rising 2 for a truly epic 360 title.

This is a brilliantly constructed game, with the game makers making perfect use of new graphics capabilities to create hundreds of zombies on screen in one go, all moving independantly and freely... Definately the foundations for a few titles to come...When you first start out on this game, you might find it difficult to bash your way through the zombies you first encounter due to being a low level... You pretty much either button mash or try and clear a fairly good way through and then run... Though the more zombies you kill, the higher your level gets, so it's probably worth having a go at finishing them all...The vast array of weapons available is incredible, my favourite in particular being the lawnmower...Nothing is more satisfying or amusing than sitting back and watching as it makes hamburgers of the undead... Though the football is also just as good, not overly effective but it rebounds off of anything in it's way (so be sure to kick it at a few of the people you have to rescue, they go flying)...Great storyline, numerous possible endings and achievements that will test the expert and help the newcomer start out... Definately worth a buy, if only to experience the sheer expertise and brilliance of the next-gen game engine... Worth the money, that's for sure!!!

Picture this: 1 mall, 1 hard as nails photographer and a boat load of zombies! deadrising is undoubtabally the funnest game xbox has to offer. From the powerful (excavator) to the hilarious (king salmon) the mall is full of every weapon imaginable! My favourite is the showerhead, stick it in a zombies head and blood will rain out until the zombie dies. This game IS the poster child of xbox. Now ive people say that the save system is annoying, but come on people! The game saves at the start of each case and there are toilets in which you can save everywhere! But bewarned, the writing in this game is very small (i bought a huge tv for the game alone) but who really reads the subtitles heh heh heh.Did i mention that this game is huge?A massive mall, 3 huge modes, 58,000 zombies, and i think about 200 different weapons - and i dont know how many food items? the first mode is at least 6 hours, second is 2 hours and third is 14 hours. Yes people thats real time hours! In sumation, BUY THIS GAME!!! i bought three! (1 broke, 1 got stolen and im playing the third in a minute). hope that this review helped, yup you guessed it - i was bored and had a two cents ta give. :)

This game is truly the best undead bashing game there is!Firstly you don't even have to follow the story, you can just stand in a room for 6 hours if you want to unlock the overtime mode easily, how great is that!!!However, if you're a zombie genocidal maniac who just wants to massacre every zombie you can get you're hands on then this game is for you!!Why do the story?? Just massacre THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of zombies for 6 hours with anything and everything you can get your hands on. Chairs, benches, lawnmowers, chainsaws, knives, guns, bats, steel, iron, pots, sickles, domestic items,DIY items.... JUST EVERYTHING CAN BE USED AS A WEAPON!!!Not only that but you can learn new skills to fight with like walking on top of a huge horde of zombies, somersault kicks and many many more cool tricks!!!Dying on this game is not too bad as you can save you're skills you've learned and use them when you restart the game!!!WOW hours and hours of fun and gore awaits you with this game.Overall this is a MUST BUY!!! For zombie mashing maniacs out there looking to vent some steam!!

First time i played dead rising i absouletly hated it. But just before I was about to trade it in I gave it another chance. After you level up a few times the game becomes substainally easier. The fact you can keep your levels and skills when you start a new game is a good feature. The multiple story endings are cool. However there is no story line like mass effect or oblivion despite capcoms best tries to make this a in depth storyline to be hnoest i wasnt really bothered who brad was or why they were here. Another flaw is the poor cut scenes which luckily you can skip. For example in one franks hand was holding a camera and the his hand started to flap back and forth.Items have short lives but this adds to the pressure of the game knowing you have to always be well supplied. save locations are annoying. But always try to go out your way after you finish a mission to find a toilet or return to the janitors area. It is quite an addicting game overall and the rush to get your level up is great.

I purchased this game because a fellow work employee recommend it. He was right!Good - There are a lot of weapons to choose from and use at your disposal, such as guns, benches, flower pots, cash machines etc.The "zombie bashing" is really addictive and you can find yourself going off the storyline in order to defeat all the zombies.Bad - I dislike the save system very much! In order to save your current progress you have to locate a rest room or the security room. From where you are on the map, this can take a long time to reach and you may find yourself running long distances to save points. The weaponary for your first few levelled abilities, don't last long and you can find your self only managing 4 or 5 kills, before the weapon is dropped and un-usable.Overall, the game is very addictive and captivating. You can find your self playing this game for hours, just bashing away at zombies with several items of weaponary.A tactical game in itself and a very challenging storyline.

Ok Zombies in a huge shopping mall and you are Frank a journalist who must get to the bottam of why all the living dead are eatting all the living alive. Use obvious weopons from guns found in the gun stores to bats, swords, lawnmowers, frying pans...if you can pick it up then you can slap or shoot a zombie with it. 100's of zombies on the screen at once...THAT IS SO COOL. Complete missions and try to save people...or not if you want. Imagine how cool it was to rescue six survivers at once, give them all weopons to protect themselves with and then guide them through the zombie masses...and I mean right through them. Some made it and some got noshed on. Its intense and a bloody good story from capcom.A little short for a hardcore gamer and you cant allways read the speech bubbles if you have a smaller tv but well worth the money now. Oh and just when the story seems to end it pans out even more...just play it...You'll see.

This is a fun game from Capcom , the makers of Resident Evil where you must survive a zombie invasion while trapped in a shopping mall !You have alot of freedom in this game , if you want you can avoid the story all together and just do whatever you want in the mall until the time runs out.You can use almost anything in the mall as a weapon and there can be hundreds of zombies on the screen at a time !The controls may seem awkward at first but once you get past them , you'll be having hours of zombie bashing fun with this game. The text size may be abit small for those with small screen standard definition TVs too. Alot of the game revolves around reading text ,so it may be a problem.Other than these small flaws this is a very enjoyable game for anybody willing to look past and adapt to these minor imperfections. This game is easily one of the most unique gems on Xbox 360.

This is perhaps the greatest game ever to be created on the console if any liked resident evil but disliked the fact that a few zombies could slaughter you in a matter of seconds. your going to love this game with around about 1000 zombies on screen the blood bath is endless from humble beginings of whacking zombies with baseball bats to eventually disembowling them. the ways to kill never get old. for anyone that plays games for a challenge you in for a treat this game is one of the hardest if not the hardest to 1000/1000 gamerscore with acheivments varying from falling 15feet to killing 53,943 zombies in one playthrough.id seriously reccomend this game to anyone.id also like to add if anyone does buy this game and wants any help with the game without having to rely on internet guides just message (XxDdLxX Boon) on xbox live ill be glad to help anyone

Very good game, definately try this regardless if you think you will like it or not. its very different, there is a story line but you dont have to follow it, basically you are just encouraged to survive for 72 game hours in a shopping mall with 100s of different weapons at your disposal...the game is quite achievement based as you play the game through aiming at certain points such as zombie genocider kill 53000 odd zombies (the population of the city) or psycopath killer (survivors who've gone a bit crazy due to the infestation), you can also try to save sane survivors by escorting them back to your security room where you intend to take them with you when the helicopter arrives...but this may change as the game has something like 8 different endings, some of which unlock extra modes like another 24 hours and then infinity mode.... enjoy

The game is fantastic all I am doing now is doing the missions , it is great fun . The gunshop is in the North Plazza . There is alot of blood in it, also when you go up levels you unlock realy cool master skills , andthrowing skills all that is done by doing the missions and killing lots of zombies .The only thing is thats wrong with the game which I had trouble was the saving when you first start the game , however when you start a new case make sure you save it otherwise you will lose it all . Its a shame there isnt an autosave that would be much better .Over all the game is amazing , the weapons you get are realy cool to fight with and kill the millions of zombies .Last thing is that themap is big .definitely get the game !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Good luck with zombie killing .

Other reviews have described the games good and bad points very well, and in detail, so i wont boher repeating them all again. I wll just explain one major flaw:Although the game is very fun, there is one major problem, and thats saving. The first time i played i assumed ther was an autosave bcauase all the games i have played have had one (GTA IV, COD, Resident evil 5, Fallout 3 e.t.c.) So after dieing after 2 hours playing and finding out i was back at th beginning i wasnt happy. After learning from that mistake i often go to a save room, which can be a right chore, and does reduce the fun of the game.**So be warned, save often!**
