Update 5/3/19This is a cracking piece of kit, its been used a number of times now and has been perfect for casseroling, brazing, curries and browning the meat on the hob prior to making the dishes up. The square shape lends its self well to using on the gas hob (ours is a 900cm) and the capacity large enough to make for the family. I recommend this thoroughly my only reservation is the price which seems to have gone up enormously since we bought the Casserole a few months ago.Original reviewReplacement for a similar Casserole dish that got broken, early days but this Corning Ware 5Lt has worked well, the shape is also good and it runs on the hob fine.

I have been disappointed by much of the modern cookware I have purchased lately, so I thought I would return to the old school stuff my mother used when I was young. I purchased this as a little buddy for my Creuset and could not be happier. It performs in much the same way, I can brown in the dish, simmer and then place in the oven. I use it for curries, pasta sauces, casseroles and even for some slow cooking style recipes. It doesn’t have any screws Or attached handles that wobble over time or surfaces that will peel, it’s not new and revolutionary but that’s exactly why I love it. The lid knob stays cool enough to lift even after being on the gas stovetop boiling away for a long time.

I have owned this 2L square casserole - with glass cover (white), for 26 years now, I purchased this and other's when I lived in the Middle East and I would just hate to be without it this and my other utensils. It cooks things beautifully and I can also use it in my microwave. One of all Corningware's many attributes, is that they come clean and always look brand new. I also own a very deep Corningware casserole, which I can cook a meal for at least 8 people, and that also always looks brand new. I think that all your products are wonderful and I can take them to the dining table, because they look so pretty. Many thanks for your wonderful goods, and I looked forward to many more year's of use.Mrs.

Working long hours I always put the dinner on a timer in the oven. This size casserole is perfect for putting sliced carrots in for 3-4 people, One floret of broccoli each and one floret of cauliflower. Cuts down on having to do a lot of washing up and if you get the timing right all cooked just right. It looks so nice can be used as a serving dish as well. Good grip handles for getting out of the oven. Cleans easily in the dish washer and doesn't take up a lot of space

This casserole dish is expensive. It can be heated or cooked in many ways; I use it on a ceramic hob with good results. The heat is distributed very evenly across the bottom. It is a little slow, only a little. The results are good. I would have liked it to be a little larger about 1.5 litre. I am very pleased with it and I expect it to last a long time. If in the unlikely event of it breaking I will purchase another if the price is about the same.

Such a versatile cooking pot. We use it on the stove to brown off the meat and then just add the rest of the ingredients before placing it into the oven to cook a casserole or stew. This ability to be used either on the hob, in the oven or both makes it ideal for cooking so many things and it is attractive enough to be used on the table as a serving dish. It's also very robust and cleans easily. Can definitely recommend.

I have had a set of these dishes for over 30 years. This was a replacement for one that my husband dropped. I find it hard to believe that these aren't more widely available. They go on the hob, in the oven, under the grill, in the microwave, in the freezer and are dishwasher proof too. In the US and far east they're very common. Why are they so expensive in the UK? I don't know, but you won't regret buying it.

I have had this type of cookware for many years. Being glass it is subject to breakage - hence the need to buy a new one. I just love the versatility of this stuff: oven to table to water in sink, cleaned up, filled up and popped into the freezer for future use, then possibly out of the freezer and straight onto the hob. The space age certainly produced some interesting stuff!

I have had this sort of cookware for many years. I love the space age technology of it (the tiles on the outside of the Apollo spacecraft) and its versatility. I love the fact that it can go from freezer to hob or oven directly and oven to water without cracking. Now I have found a new source for it, I shall be decluttering!

I chose this one for its convenient size, as well as the glass lid with the added bonus of a knob to lift off. It has handles on each end which makes it so much easier to carry , especially as I have arthritis. Have cooked in it, and it is super to clean, does not stain, and the best dish in my cupboard !

I have used my 2 corningware dishes almost daily since they were new in the 1980's and they are still going strong, although the smaller one has a large chip out of a handle through being dropped years ago. None the worse for that! They are worth their weight in gold.

This item is to replace the one dropped by 'he who 'shall be nameless'. I have a complete set and they may be used on the hob,in the oven or microwave and carried to the table. They are well designed dishwasher proof and absolutely indispensable.

Corning casseroles are excellent products. Pity they are not more generally available in UK. Bought this as the old one (improbably) broke in half when it fell on the kitchen floor. That was after at least 20 years of use!

Finally had to replace my old one after 25 years . It still does the job right and is excellent for one pot cooking. This one has a slight bobbled surface underneath that grips a little better than the old one. I love it!

I love that you can cook in it on the gas hob, oven or microwave. It looks amazing to bring to the table.Easy to wash and I love the square/round shape
