Burnout is in no way to be taken as a simulator. It in no way models the cars handling, speed or grip on real life. And it is all the better for it.The basic premice of the main game is to race around tracks at high speed in modified cars (a la fast and furious) and dodge in and out of traffic, using the oncoming lane if so desired, and catching air off crests in the road. Doing any of these three things increases your boost gauge. A full boost gauge means that you can go even faster, and the screen goes all distant and slightly out of focus (again a la fast and furious). Needless to say this is immense fun. There is also one other way you can increase your boost gauge and that is by drifting.Mid way through a corner slam the brakes and then accelerate. The car will slide willingly and you can play with it on the throttle. This is SO much fun. You can keep it sliding like this for most of the race after a while and thus you get boost after boost after boost. If you win the race you get a cup and go onto the next round. You may win a new car if you complete a pursuit (pursue a computer car in your cop car and ram them until their life goes down). However, if you should crash...the screen zooms out, you see a balletic display of your beloved car pirouetting across the screen/through the air/into walls/over cliffs. Its quite wonderful. BUT obviously this gets annoying. Luckily, by the time it gets annoying you'll be good enough to avoid virtually all crashes and so it becomes unimportant.Another mode of the game is the EXTREMELY fun crash mode where you have to deliberately smash your car into traffic and cause as much damage as possible. The bigger the crash (the more trucks/buses/cars that are involved and the severity of their impacts) the more points you get.Overall this game is FUN. It aims for easy arcade driving and succeeds. With the side games included it is a fairly long term game aswell. 2 player is also catered for which is a boon. The graphics are great and the sense of speed is the fastest I've come across in a PS2 racer (say goodbye to the gluey slowness of GT3). The only negatives are that the tracks and cars aren't based on real life. They are all just random cars and tracks, but seeing as you're encouraged to crash its not really suprising...

As racing games go, you have two types; Simulation or Arcade.BURNOUT 2:Point of Impact is firmly in arcade. As arcade games went, you had the titles that were direct ports from the arcade (Silent Scope, Point Blank 2, Crazy Taxi) and then you it play for 20 minuits and then get bored of it because its too repetative or exactly the same as the one you completed in the arcade for £39 less.Burnout 2 is not like this. I can promise you that you will not get bored of it. Ever.Your 40 notes (or less) is the best value for money you can get.To start the graphics are 99% as good as GT3, without the feeling that your going as fast as a snail facing headwinds. Then you watch in horror, joy,or even despair as your car disintigrates on impact with a dozen cars and lorries (and busses and vans). Your crash can then cause the other racers to crash and if spectacular enough will result in the full slow-mo, multi angle replay, your car stopping against the barrier and reading a 7 digit insurance bill.Bored with Gt3's over simulation, or no damage or jumps or boosts, bored with NFS's crappieness, tired with racing cars that hover (wipeout), or F1 GAMES THAT ARE THE SAME AS THE ONE BEFORE?You need this game. Its fun. Its the best racing game on Ps2, kicking crappy X-Box (Bill Gates, need I say more...) and stupid Gamecube (who needs a handle for christ's sake?) into the back of the results with 'Did Not Finish' written next to them.GRAPHICS-10-Jaw dropping.Smooth;constant 60fps, fast and slick. The detail is amazing.SOUND-10-Brilliant. Great rock as well, reacting to your boost, adding to the effect.GAMEPLAY-10-Arcade is allways fun if done well, this is geneous.LASTABILITY-10-Even when you have completed you will come back for more and mor.Overall-10/10 (98%)Unmissable for speed freaks and everyone who owns a PS2.Jonathan Grimes ([email protected] for any comments)

While everyone around them was looking to be the most realistic driving sim, to possess the most accurately recreated real world courses, and to have the most intricate car set up abilities, the makers of Burnout chucked on their favourite car chase DVDs and said let's have some fun. So many games have completely forgotten the fantasy worlds, bright colours and delightful entertainment of games in the past. Not Burnout 2. For speed, thrills and crashes, that will make you literally jump every single time, nothing comes close. This is arcade racing at its most gleeful and skilful. Later games in the series have become far too basic with the focus on combat and not the actual driving.Burnout 2 was the perfect melding of driving with supreme skill, dodging traffic like a joyriding loon and rocketing past the shattered wreck of your competitors smash up with a wicked smirk on your face. No other game makes you feel like you really are pushing it to the absolute limit and power sliding has never been so rewarding, especially when each squealing swerve fills up that divine boost bar.Unleash a full boost bar and it's like someone kicked in the hyperdrive but forgot to tell everyone else to get out of the way. Never does gaming heighten the senses as much as when you're bombing along traffic filled roads, trying to string a succession of insane boosts together, and getting into an almost zen like state until BAM! A truck pulls straight into your path and before you know it you're witnessing the most incredible pile up you've ever had the joy of causing. Absolute arcade driving pleasure.

This game is a must for any arcade racing fan!Burnout 2 still has most of the features from the original (championship mode, single race,Face off, etc)and more. The newest editions to the game are "learn to burn" ,pursuit mode and crash for cash.In pursuit mode you drive a police car an as the name sujests, you have to pursue the other car.You have to hit the other car several times to make it stop.If you manage to do this with in the alotted distance, the car is then yours to race about at will.In crash for cash, there are 15 levels that are completely insane. In one level, you have to charge down the motorway an hit as many buses as possible. These features add a huge amount of playablity, and wehavent even gotten to the championship mode yet!In the championship mode, you race against 3 other computer controlled cars in over 30 different tracks.Upon completing individual championships, you then get access to face offs and pursuit mode, and eventually, the customised championship. This is where the real fun starts....The main difference to the first one is the graphics. The cars look truly amazing, and the tracks and background scenery are stunning, thats if you get a chance to look at them as your hutrling down the wrong side of the road with the boost on.All in all,Burnout 2:Point of Impact is a master piece that truly does exceed the expectations of most sequels. It has amazing graphics, bags of replay value and is great fun to play.Enjoy!

This is the sequel to Burnout. This one contains better crashes, more cars, bigger and newer location which is twice the size of the first game, more speed, easier to burnout which results in even more fun game than the first. If you liked the first game or you are a fan of arcade racing, then you'll love this. Even if you don't like racing games, you'll still find this fun.Its easy to learn for rookies and becomes more challenging later on for the better drivers. There are loads more crashes, like the first one you get an insurance price, for your crashes you cause.More cars on the road mean more splendid crashes. The location is a city with diverse surroundings including: hills, rivers and of course high-speed freeways. There is over 24 tracks which overlap each other at certain points. The idea of the game is for you win drag races and get money to get faster cars. To help you in the races there is a Burnout bar which goes up by you doing daredevil stunts and near misses. These result in the bar filling up and when full it gives your car an incredible rush of speed hence the name Burnout. The good news is that in Burnout 2,the burnout bar is easier to fill. Perfect for multiplayer action. This is the best arcade racer you'll ever play and it's more fun than Grand Turismo. Essential for anyone's collection.

This is a very cool game. I detested the first game, I bought a traded in copy and still felt cheated that I'd spend £9.99 on it, so I took it back the next day. However, this game is very different and much, much better. It fulfills all of the potential that the first one promised and is both extremely enjoyable and challenging, creating a true sensation of speed, especially when you hit the boost, which produces a noise very similar to that of the nitrous boost in The Fast and the Furious: most satisfying. It is on occasion too difficult though, especially considering that you have to get all gold medals in each of the races in championship mode to unlock new cars, which leads to much resetting of the console after you fail to come first. The real highlight of the game is the custom league, with the modified streetracer cars that look like the one's from The Fast and the Furious, especially the Mitsubishi Eclipse clone from the fron cover. A very classy game, marred only by issues relating to difficulty.

Burnout 2 takes all the best bits of driving games - crashes, ultra-high speeds, power-slides etc - and moulds them all into an utterly fantastic video game experience. The graphics are some of the best seen on the PS2; the cars aren't exact replicas vis a vis GT3, but everything is really polished. You must see the rain and snow effects! This game is really, really fast. You build up your nitro (turbo boost)and then hold down r2 for as long as possible. If you manage to gain points whilst using turbo, you get instantly another nitro. This carries on for as long as you are able (my record is five - not easy at all, believe me), allowing you to reach insane speeds.I've had this game since it came out in October, and I can unequivocally state that it still produces the same level of adrenaline rush now as it did then (if not more). Simply brilliant.

Ok, I admit. I'm a BIG Burnout fan. The many, many nights with beers and few mates and a massive burnout tournament are highlights of 2002. When we were just starting to get tired of the game we discovered manual gears and a whole new dimension to the game opened up. So you can imagine I was first in the queue for the next instalment and I've not been disappointed. The car handling and controls are as exquisite as the first instalment (if it ain't broken...) and more cars, graphics to write home about, great sound, faster (yes, I said faster) game play and really well designed tracks make this a classic must own game. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is that you can’t get your friends to lug a PS2 and a TV over for massive 4 player action. But then, you need those rests between games so your eyeballs can recover...

If you played the original Burnout then there is no need for an introduction, however for those who have not, it is an arcade racer based on the original 'Thrill Drive' in the arcades. Compared to the original, the graphics are prettier, cars more plentiful, new pursuit mode and tracks delight. The tracks are neatly interwoven with one another. The town consists of an airport, interstate, alpine, beach front & country side and are all split into smaller sections consisting of 1 or 2 of these general areas...around 28 tracks in total. This is a blistering fast game, with the turbo (Burnout) filling out more rapidly which allows continuous use of it causing blisters in the eyes due to such rapid eye movement!!For this price you're not going to find a faster, prettier & in depth arcade racer around.

In my opinion the first Burnout was all hype and nothing outstanding,so a year later we have the sequel and I wasn't expecting too much from this, but how wrong I was !This has to be one of the best PS2 titles so far.The graphics engine has been tweaked to perfection and those infamous crash sequences are now about 10 times better than in the first game, all in wince enducing metal shredding slow motion...flying debris, sparks, jack knife trucks, buses, flying wheels....NICE!Great new gameplay modes include a full championship, pursuit mode (just like the old Taito game Chase HQ) and best of all crash mode where you and up to four mates compete in causing as much carnage as possible. To sum it all upthen ....OUTSTANDING...GO GET IT NOW !!

This game is class. The graphics are excellent, and give a good impression of driving at speed, especially in 60Hz mode. The Burnout function is a lot better than in the original game. Now the music playing in the background gets louder, instead of the incidental music used before, and its seems so much faster and crisper than previously too.Crash mode is the business, you should all by the game to play this mode, especially if your old enough to be drinking alcohol at the same time!!!

I am in awe by how great the game is as a whole. It is like the one my dad had before car booting it off. I am so pleased with finding this game again. It helps me whenever I am triggered off where my autism plays up. I just simply play on Burnout 2 for a bit and I am very much calm after crashing into some traffic on the game haha! I recommended it to so many of my friends who has Autism too and they even said they would look into it.

What a game, true quality. Its fast, has quality graphics and lets face it, driving on the wrong side of a freeway into head on traffic is tops. The multiplayer options are class, with the crash for points and pursuit mode, this is a top game and you must have it!
