I don't know what is inside this but it makes a whirring noise when switched on, akin to a computer fan. Anyhoo, it's very accurate and can be switched on after opening to an angle and the display will show the angle set, not starting from zero nor needing to be closed before being powered up. The physical lock knob allows angles to be transferred to a mitre saw/piece of wood etc.etc. without losing the setting. A very nice bit of kit.

Beautifully made, robust, accurate and works very well. The faint high pitched whine mentioned by another reviewer is only the noise produced by the digital display inverter circuit, it does not signify a fault.Changing the 4 AA batteries is a simple exercise and there is never any need to zero the device, it’s always precisely calibrated.

My metal worker husband is very pleased with this. It made measuring a tricky job easy. He says it does what it says on the tin ?
