I bought this to replace an older level that I was finding increasingly hard to see, especially in lower light conditions. The totally open top design makes this much quicker and easier to use. It has taken a few tumbles and knocks without any damage, so far.It is that bit chunkier and not so easy in and out of side pockets as my older, slimmer one.The magnets are quite strong. My old level had the full length strip, but could not hang on any where near as well as this one. My old level was plastic and you could easily forget you had it in your pocket. Not this one! The adjustable vial is not something I have had any use for yet,but is a good firm fit and not loose in any way.Apart from the possible side pocket problems (will not fit in some work trousers) I cannot fault this level. Solid, weighty, well built, very easy to read in any light conditions and looks good too. Well worth the money.

Despite being less than happy with a previous Stanley level, I was suckered into buying another by the discount being offered on this 250mm one. I hoped the fact it was a FatMax variant might mean the quality was better than the other Stanley level. It is better, but not perfect. The fixed vertical and horizontal vials read accurately and the manufacturing quality is good. It has a milled base, with a pipe channel and strong magnets. Unfortunately, the rotating vial can't be trusted. Setting it to 0 degrees (horizontal) should mean it matches the reading on the fixed horizontal vial, but the two give different readings.Admittedly, it's not often you'd need to check angles other than 0 degrees or 90 degrees, and so the fixed vials are all you're likely to use in most situations; but there isn't much point in having a rotating vial if it isn't calibrated properly.

I can't say I've used this for anything particularly practical as yet, but it seems perfectly accurate on everything I've tested. It's a solid looking and feeling bit of kit, with clear bubbles given the small format. The worse part for me though? "Rare earth magnets which are twice as strong as basic strip magnets." - says the description. They must be rare, so rare, that they're missing! The magnets in this are far from strong. They hold it in place nicely on a solid, wide metal surface, but on my tv bracket (narrow metal contact patch) it doesn't work at all. DO NOT BUY if you were sold on the idea of a magnetic level. It's a gimmick more than anything else. I think giving it 3 stars would be harsh, but for it's function as a MAGNETIC level alone, it doesn't deserve more than 3.

Very handy small level for shelves ,pictures and seeing if your washing machine or fridge freezer are level. Feels solid in the hand with good grip and I would expect this to last for years to come (probably see me out lol)The spirit levels themselves are a chunky size filled with a coloured liquid which makes it very easy to see even in lowish light and are cover protected in such a way that even if dropped couldn't imagine them breaking. There's gaps in the ends for hanging up too. Very happy with it.

Have numerous Fatmax levels, this torpedo one, 600, 1200 & 1800mm. Given years of great service.Really highly rate them all. Very strong, tough and most importantly, accurate.Has magnetic grooved base that's ideal for tubes, scaffolding and of course flat surfaces. Easy to read.Very good value and better than those "yellow" ones that appear to be the bee's knees. Fatmax ones just seam better built.Levels are the jewel in the Farmax crown.

The clown I was working with dropped my last one down a riser and the goblins at the bottom claimed it so I needed a new one, everyone on site has one of these apart from scaffolders who have stabila's and grey tracksuit bottoms. It's accurate enough and easy to see the only issues I have are the magnets could be stronger and it should come in different colours as people are forever walking off with my level claiming it's theirs.

Really impressed with this - well made and has an adjustable 3rd level for measuring any angle you like. The magnets are a bonus too, even if they are of limited use in most situations it's nice to have.As others have mentioned, it might have been good to have slightly more protection for the centre level, which is quite exposed. However, if you don't throw your tools around, and use them properly, it shouldn't be a problem.

This is the second most used level I own. Brilliant for a range of jobs, feels bulletproof and the accuracy is spot on. I don't bother with the adjustable vial, so I don't know how accurate that is but I'm sure I'll need to call on it one day and find no issue. I got this on offer from Amazon and have since seen it elsewhere for almost double what I paid. Which leaves me feeling even happier about this cracking little level.

I bought this as I’d been looking at it for a while, needed a torpedo level and all my other levels are Stanley Fatmax, so made sense to have this one too….then when the price dropped to just over £9 I had to have it at such a bargain price! (Usually £16+)Very good build quality and sturdiness! Does exactly what you need it to and the same excellent build quality of all other Stanley Fatmax products. 100% recommended!!

This is an amazing little level, I use levels about 60% of my working day and its essential that they be small and adapt, and this is by far the best I've come across, I ordered it on Thursday and it arrived on the Saturday morning. very accurate BUT I am not sure there is a lot of demand for the angled spirit, I've certainly never come across someone who needed this before but hey ho. all in all a good little product.

Feels sturdy enough, and the flat bottom makes it more stable when sat on a work piece. It's true - which is always good for a level! The adjustable level is also very useful for getting your angles right. The magnets on the on the bottom are also handy but only if you're using it on metal obviously - for me personally, it makes it easy to store by attaching it to a fitting on my tool wall. Recommended product.

A sturdy device. Magnets appear to be ok... But I wouldn't assess the spirit level on the effectiveness of the magnets. The unadjustable bubble level is accurate, but the bubble for the adjustable dial is 2-4 degrees out..... Very poor accuracy and no Appa aren't way to adjust/calibrate. To use this device to determine horizontal level is good..., but don't use it to get an accurate inclination.

This level is like having a third hand when steel is involved, fine tuning can be conducted and viewed for accuracy during any operation. As a general level during any non magnetic use, it is sturdy and as a result withstands minor mishaps easily, as well as being bounced about within a tool container. The Stanley FatMax Xtreme Torpedo Level is a must have accessory. SB.

13.8.2013

It's a very good torpedo level and has very strong magnets. However the reason for 4 rather than 5 stars is the adjustable level is of little accurate use. It may give you a rough idea of an angle but it doesn't have any positive steps to select an exact angle if you wanted to say put something at a 2 degree angle you wouldn't know if it was set to 1,2 or 3 degrees.

I bought this when my Wickes one was stolen at work, and I must say that this is a far superior piece of kit. Very sturdy construction, the magnets are very strong and the rotating third vial/angle finder has proved extremely useful as a fabricator. Add to that it fits in my overalls pocket nicely and I`m not upset about losing my old one at all.
