My 7 year old daughter received this play set 2 days ago and (unusually for her) she has played with it practically non stop ever since. Although I am not a fan of the Barbie brand and the stereotypes it represents, I have to admit this this is one of the best toys we have had for a long time! The kitchen comes in 3 parts and is accompanied by a blonde haired, permanently bent armed, scantily clad, Barbie doll. This Barbie is a traditional doll wearing a blue, short dress, white trainers and apron. Rather amusingly, my daughter presented her with one of the tumblers and because she doesn't stand up very well on her own, lay her down on the floor, where she has remained ever since,as if it had all just got too much for her. As Barbie was otherwise occupied, my daughter then got to work in this tiny kitchen. The cabinet on the left houses a fridge with opening door and hooks to hang the pots, pans and cooking utensils. The chopping board on the top hides a vegetable maker (mould). Push the dough into each little former and press down to make broccoli, carrots, cauliflower and mushrooms (see photos). The middle space has shelves to store the "Barbie Dough", plates and mixing bowl. There are two machines on the top. The left machine has pockets to fill with dough. Press down the lever and swipe the pink slider to extrude and compile a multi layered sandwich. Put yellow dough in the other gadget, push down the basket shape, press the lever and watch as chips are made. Scoop them out with the spatula and put them onto one of the plates. On the right there is an oven and hob. WARNING: THIS REQUIRES 3 x AA BATTERIES - NOT INCLUDED! - and a small Phillips screwdriver to open the compartment. I didn't expect that tis would need batteries. There are two small buttons on the oven that light up the hobs separately while sounding cooking noises. Inside the oven is a pie maker. Pull out the tray, lift the hinge, place in some beige dough, nip together to cookie cut the pie shape, place into the oven and press the lever at the side (and hear the timer ping!), while printing a lattice pattern on the top of your pie.Dinner is served! The dough feels more rubbery than traditional Play-Doh and the colours separate easily so that it can be used over and over. The dough will, however, dry out if lids are left open and, as with all similar modelling materials, it sticks particularly well to carpet! Traditional Play-Doh could be used to extend the life of this set.My daughter is at the perfect age for this. She enjoys the creative play and the association with Barbie, while is dextrous and creative enough to manipulate the tiny shapes. It has also sparked an interest in cooking as she is making sense of which utensils to use and how to cook each food. This is so cute and presents hours of fun. I cannot recommend this highly enough as a fantastic gift for a 6 to 9 year old with creative flair.

So, I hate cooking, but I've loved getting this out and playing with my friend's two little girls, aged nearly-7 and 11. There was no fighting as there's plenty included in this for two kids to comfortably play with. I really wish there had been something like this when I was little, or even when my son was little, as he's 26 now and loves cooking, but still won't eat his veg. And, lol, Mattel shows a little boy playing with this set, with a male doll - sigh. I suppose they tried. It's not a huge set and it fits comfortably on a coffee table - it needs a completely flat surface, so a carpet with pile won't do. Barbie herself kind of gets lost in this set, as there's so much to see and do.It even has differing sound effects, but batteries are not included (when will the manufacturers learn that this makes them cheapskates?) and 3 x AAA are needed. There's Play Doh included, little utensils, pots, pans, basically everything shown in the ad page. It does get a little messy as the dough gets stuck in the sandwich-maker, in the fryer, etc., and you can't help but end up with weird mixes, lol. But, if your little one is a fussy eater, you could use this set to encourage some more adventurous eating via the creations (my son might have benefited from this!).A few things to be careful over - the Play Doh is made of wheat, so could cause an allergic reaction if eaten (yes, there's a strong chance of that, I suspect), but it's easy enough to source something similar. The Play Doh may stain. Barbie's head is attached so tightly to the back of the box that she lost a little bit of hair when hubs got the Swiss Army knife out to cut the tie. Barbie is not bendy and does not stand up by herself (hence being discarded). There are some VERY small bits, so if you have very young children, care needs to be taken so that they don't get hold of this. It's a great set and it looks solid and durable, so hopefully this is one that can be used and passed on when the kids' interest wanes, which I suspect won't be for a while. And, there are a couple more sets and dolls that can be added to this. Oh, the cost, the cost..!

At first I was a bit worried about Kitchen Barbie and it being a bit of a stereotype of women being in the kitchen etc but as I have explained to my daughter she is Chef Barbie and she hasn’t questioned it at all. To be honest, the Barbie is totally an afterthought with this set.She isn’t as good quality as other Barbies you can purchase separately, she is less bendy and to be honest doesn’t add much to the play factor, so currently she is sitting in my daughter dolls house starring into space :-)This set comes with 5 small tubs of play-doh (playdough?) and an array of moulds in which to create all sorts of play food for the kitchen. My daughter and son have had hours of fun creating/making food, recreating other foods etc.I love the fact you don’t have to be a Barbie fan to love this toy. They have both been playing really nicely together with this. Even I have sat on the floor with them to help them at points. The kitchen set itself seems to be excellent quality. We have had this a couple of months and it is still all attached to each other, nothing broken. My initial thoughts of £35 was that it is a bit pricey but again if I compare how many hours play this has had and compare the price, it is excellent value and worth every penny. The only downside to this set is the Barbie, if she were a much better quality doll this set would be perfect.

As Barbie sets go, this one is fairly reasonably priced... There are certainly much smaller Barbie playsets in this price range without as much to offer as this one.The Barbie doll itself is fairly basic with a cooking outfit including an apron and you get 5 very small pots of playdough of various colours(all of which will probably be the standard colour of dark purple within a week as they get muddled up).The kitchen though really is quite impressive with so many different working parts. It is essentially 3 separate 'units' with the central shelving unit flanked by the oven on one side and the work area on the other. The work surface has a built in mold that makes a variety of small vegetable pieces, the central unit has space for the chip maker and pasta maker molds both of which are quite small and fiddly but still work really well. The oven unit comes with a separate pie mold and once you've made the pie you then slide it into the oven which has a another mold to press it all together. The hob also lights up makes a variety of cooking sounds. On top of all that you get an assortment of serving platters, cutlery, chopping knives, serving tongs, pots and pans, etcThis has kept my daughter happy and entertained for hours already and really has become a very firm favourite and I really can't find any fault with it.

This is a very clever play set where Barbie can become a chef.It includes 5 dough colours (yellow, red, white, green and brown/gold) to make any food you can imagine.20 plus pieces are included like, a vegetable shaper press, large stew pot with lid, saucepan, knife, beakers, burger shapes maker, chips maker, plates, bowls and cutlery. The utilities include a fridge with two shelves, an oven with removable shelf and sounds, a hob with light up heat rings which emits a sizzle sounds.Barbie wears a polka dot apron and can hold some of the utensils, like the ladle or spatula. Although she won’t stand up on her own.It has four dough shape makers in a vegetable maker which will make tomato slices, broccoli, carrot and mushrooms... these will be quite smallThere’s a burger pieces maker that looks like a sandwich toaster, it uses different coloured dough and presses down then slices across to create the various burger pieces (bun, cheese, etc). Then there is the chips maker, it looks like a fryer, and uses yellow dough, you press down to create your own chips.Place brown dough in the oven pie maker and you get a ting when it’s ready and you press down a handle to give it that lattice look and you’re ready to serve.Perhaps for an older child who can handle the fiddly bits of dough but super fun and very well-thought out.

This is one of the best Barbie kits I have ever seen. It is so comprehensive and well thought through - it has more gadgets that I have in my kitchen! We are big fans of baking and cooking programmes in our family and my 8 year old granddaughter and 7 year old grandson are both thrilled with this brilliant kit. All their dolls, male and female, are taking turns as chefs and diners, including the Barbie that comes with the kit.For a child's toy it is amazingly realistically put together, with all the white goods and cooking equipment you would expect in a normal kitchen, and the level of detail is superb. In addition there is coloured play dough which can be formed into various shapes, like vegetables, chips, etc, which your little chefs can then pretend to cook and either eat or serve to friends and family. This truly is an excellent toy that will provide hours and hours of fun. You will need to purchase some AAA batteries for it though, as it does not come with any.

This is an excellent Barbie Ultimate Kitchen set, which combines imaginative play with arts and crafts, as this comes with five tubs of playdough, as well as lots of moulds to create play food. The set comes with a doll, plus lots of kitchen accessories and opportunities for Barbie to do some serious cooking. There is a fridge, vegetable mould, sandwich maker, a press to make fries, a stove top which lights up and makes cooking noises and an oven with a timer. There are also lots of little accessories – pots, pans, glasses, a ladle, spatula, tongs and more.My daughter and niece have had endless fun with this set. They have enjoyed the opportunities to create meals and there have been an endless parade of dolls queuing up to eat them!Great fun and you can always buy new dough to extend the play and fun, if it does need replacing.

Whilst this does seem a tad on the expensive side when you look at all the components, extras and different things kids can play with it does work out at a good price.you get a basic Barbie doll which comes with a apron, but I suppose kids will use any doll!the kitchen is impressive with a oven (needs batteries) with a light up hob, cooking sounds and oven timer.a fridge and a worktop with cupboards and storage areas.then you get some playdoh pots where kids will have the most fun, making lots of food in the kitchen, you have a veg press with different veg shapes, a sandwich maker and a fry press.you also get some utensils like a tong, spatula, spoons, knife, everything a young budding chef would need!all in all this is a impressive set which most kids would play with for ages.

I was delighted that this playset included play-dough. It really makes it a lot more interactive than your typical toy set and has been a firm family favourite since Christmas. The kitchen comes with a number of squishers and pressers to make the meals - waffle-maker, vegetables, pies and more. The burger maker is particularly clever. There are also plenty of small accessories, such as pots and pans, and some of the appliances will make sounds, which the kids love. The dough is easily replaceable - there's a lot of mixing encouraged so it probably won't last long. The doll herself is the usual good Barbie quality and I don't have any concerns that her joints will go,like can happen with cheaper dolls.A fun and interactive set with a lot of potential.

Snapped this up for my niece, who loves it immensely. The favourite element for her is the food making (moulding vegetables with the dough, and repeatedly activating the oven) but she does tend to play with all the various bits and pieces (pots and pans) so she can put together dinner for her other dolls (and the included Barbie isn't always treated as chef). From an adults point of view, it's not exactly a budget set but you do get a fair amount included. Just to note, I found putting it together for her a pretty simple affair, but if you're going to move it around a lot, I'd suggest holding from the base as it does feel a little like it could give it if pulled from the side.

This is a fantastic product and my 8 year old niece loves it. She spends hours playing with her Barbies so the addition of the kitchen and its many functions was a big hit.She really enjoys creating things with arts and crafts and so loves making different meals for her Barbies using the coloured play dough and various moulds. She especially loves the cooker with its beeping timer and the hob that lights up and makes boiling sounds!I feel the colourful kitchen is well designed. It’s not cumbersome and sits comfortably on the coffee table (better than the carpet for stability) and with its many realistic working features provides hours of great imaginative play.

This product is ideal for children who like detail in their imaginative play, which is why I have given it 5 stars. However, that does not mean everyone will like it. Some children will trash the set; some will grow impatient; some will lose the little bits. Think before you buy this! It also needs 3 AAA batteries to make the simulated heat sources work. The chef Barbie is a work of art, by the way.Our own grand-daughter loves this set, but she has always had an interest in small things and has therefore tried and tried to improve her dexterity. What I personally like is how long it keeps her involved and how much there is to play with in the set.

Although part of me doesn't like the fact that this is a Barbie in a kitchen setting ( stereotyping!) I have to admit that the recipient absolutely loved this and squealed with delight when handed over.It comes with lots of accessories to play with, and did keep my niece amused for hours.I have always found Barbie toys to be really sturdy and stand up to quite a bashing and this is no exception. In my opinion Barbie toys do cost a lot of money but they are quite robust and as long as you are careful to put everything away in a bag (to avoid loss) after use your child will get many years of joy out of this.

8.12.2018

A Barbie in an apron is included. So are 5 pots of coloured play dough. There are various small appliances that kind of work. But they need batteries which are not included. So even quite small children can have a great time making and “cooking” things long before they are into the fashion and bling that Barbie is usually all about. Absolutely no prizes for doing anything to remedy gender stereotypes. Very young boys would no doubt enjoy playing with it before they realise it is “girly”and that is a “ bad” thing. It is quite expensive I suppose but there is a lot to it so not bad value altogether.

18.1.2019

This is a great playset - really good size and comes with all the accessories a budding Delia Smith could want. The playdough aspect adds another dimension as the little ones can make their own food with the supplied accessories too! Main downside is that its Playdough and that means mess - but I suppose this is what kids are all about!Atr £45 at the time of writing I would say you are paying a "Barbie" premium here - probably get an off brand set for half the price - still, if this is your thing then its a decent enough set with plenty to do
