The tail lights up and flashes with a press of her necklace. She doesn't make any swimming action, does not propel herself through water. Her top is moulded onto her, so you don't need to dry out any clothes if she is taken for a swim. Her hair dries nicely and doesn't tangle. Her fin on the bottom of her tail comes detached, but clicks into place easily (just make sure that the rainbow coloured side faces forward, as its difficult to detach and correct). When she is packaged, her crown is tagged onto her head with plastic tags and I would suggest keeping these in place, otherwise her crown falls off easily. This is a full sized barbie. Really good gift.

My daughter is very happy with her Barbie. She has used her numerous times both in the paddling pool and the bath and she has been completely submerged but the lighting still works.After a bubble bath, the tail did appear to have bubbles in it and we worried that it would stop it from working but it is still going strong.One downside is that the Barbie cannot stand or sit up and is pretty much fixed in this position so other than lying down and swimming in the bath, she isn’t very practical for all playtime but my daughter is happy so that’s good enough for me :) x

My daughter loves this barbie. It has survived several dunkings in the bath so I would say it is waterproof. We were a bit worried when it arrived because the tail is packaged separately but once we fitted it on it has never fallen off and does flap up and down. The lights on the tail are nice and bright and sparkly and so far we haven’t had to replace them, the ones it came with have lasted a long long time. Nothing has broken or fallen off so I am very pleased with it. A good quality toy and great value for money.

Lovely toy Barbie!! Excellent so much so I have bought it as a gift since for others. I am not generally a big fan of Barbies for a number of reasons however, this one extra playability. With light up tail that flashes when submerged in water or by pushing the button! Brilliant bath time toy, my daughter is 5 and absolutely loves playing with this in the bath (as does my 2yr old son). Her hair is in great condition despite hours of being swished around underwater. Highly recommend!

WOW !!!!! This is the most magical, entertaining toy - endless play value-in the bath, sink, even fantacy in the dolls house, car or dinner at the pub ( although it hasn't been submerged in a pint -yet!!)! Yes, she goes everywhere with our 7 our old granddaughter ! Everyone is amazed at it. The quality is superb, price unbelievable and every household should have one ! Thanku from all of us aged 7 to 75 !! We have travelled miles of fantacy !

My daughter asked for a mer family for Christmas, so I bought this together with a merman (who knew that was a thing!). She loves them.I didn’t realise it had lights on it, which is perfect because It keeps her entertained longer, and she can’t use it in the bath (a previous Mermaid doll ended up in the bath so always had matted hair)

We have had this doll for over a year and it still works and looks the same as the day we got it. I have never had to change the batteries and my daughter playes with it in the bath and paddling pool every time. It had been left in the water for over an hour several times and still works. Best bath toy we have ever had!

Much loved present lasted about 6 months before the arms lost some sort of internal fixing as they now swing around wildly. Went another 3 months and now the head has broken off. Colours and lights still work (got it Christmas 2016) and she still has all her hair which has survived numerous washing and brushings.

My daughter loves this doll! I was really worried about submerging it in the bath but it works just perfectly. The only issue we noticed is that because of her tail she cannot bend at the waist so she can't sit down but that's not a problem when playing with her in general. We are very happy with this purchase.

My daughter was delighted with this toy and plays with it every time she has a bath. The tail lights up with colourful, bright lights and flashes. Once switched on it has heat sensors on the back which make it light up every time it goes under water. Definitely worth the money. Would buy again.

very good doll, the light in the tail would have been awesome if a piece of sparkly transperant plastik was inserted between the leds and the tail cover, to diffuse the light a bit more. it looks great as it is, but the bio luminescence would be more realistic why a light diffuser.

Daughter had wanted this for a long time. She was delighted when she opened it for her birthday! Plays with it in the bath all the time. Never brushed the barbies hair and it's still sleek and tangle free. Was also a lot cheaper to buy here than in a supermarket. Thanks!

Although she loved this when it was given to her, she has got bored of it pretty quickly - but I guess that's normal for a 5 year old.It's well made, and the flashing is impressively awful (from an adults perspective), but perfect for a 5 year old!

Excellent. My 4 year old daughter and 3 year old twin boys get hours of bath time fun out of this beautiful mermaid. Very sparkly. Awesome flashy lights. My friend's 3 year old fell so in love with it, I bought another for her birthday.

i read all the reviews on this before buying and made it waterproof with a smear of silicone sealant inside the battery cover before giving it to my grand-daughter, she has played with it at bath time ever since with no problems.
