When I saw this doll and the 1-2 month wait, I decided to watch and wait. I am so glad I did. The first batch arrived for sale in the UK by 20 May 2019. The next batch isn't due until late June!First, the biggest surprise, this doll (Fashionistas #123) was so tall she was literally bursting out of the top and bottom of the box! I know that will disappoint collectors who like to/must leave their dolls in their perfectly intact box shrines. A broken box devalues the doll, so beware if you're one of those. I'm not, so didn't care. The doll is beautiful, no doubt. But, per usual, you just cannot trust that the actual face and the marketing version in the pictures match up. Her face sculpt is dated 2016,and appears to be the one Kattis Dolls classifies as "Barbie 'smile'." See also Fashionistas #82 (Chic in Chambray), #88 (Unicorn Magic), and #110 (Sporty Smile, Tall). Her complexion is one of the popular 'mixed race' shades, IMHO not as reddish as #89 (Red Hood with Long Brown Hair, Tall, aka XOXO). Made-to-Move re-bodying fans will have a field day deciding among Curvy Dancer, Tall Basketball, or Original Soccer dolls. If you plan to keep her body intact, as I do, FYI, her right arm is straight, while her left arm has a gentle 135-degree bend (where 180 would be straight). Most of my bent-arm Fashionistas have one arm or both in a sharper 90-degree bend. Her makeup is subdued (no harsh eyeshadow or blush), with gorgeous deep burgundy lipstick. I do wish Mattel would choose this colour for many of their darker-skinned dolls. What is it with all this light pink and lilac nonsense (e.g. see #105 Curvy Bold Stripes, #90 Rainbow Sparkle, or #93 Petite Purple Lace Romper)?OK, the braids. I didn't want to get into the cultural appropriation debate here, but this doll release makes the topic pretty unavoidable. As a Black (Afro-Caribbean heritage) woman, let me just say that all sorts of trends that started in the Black community have been adopted by other races, e.g. popular music from the 1950s onward. Also, how many decades ago did Bo Derek appear in the film '10' with those blonde braids? That said, I do wish Mattel had released their first 'braids' doll ALSO as a darker-skinned African-American (AA) alternative, with what are considered more recognisable AA facial traits in the nose and mouth, e.g. using the Mbili sculpt. Maybe they will with the US release(s)? Frequent US retailers of AA Barbie dolls--e.g. Made-to-Move Yellow Top's original exclusive release--can influence this. Surely Amazon is big enough to have some input. Please? And then there's the hair skimpiness factor. Compared to Fresh Dolls' Indigo's braids (photo to come), Mattel has given us about half the hair! Worst sin is the hackneyed multi-length chopping they have inexplicably been doing to Fashionistas' hair for years now (see #16 Glam Team [shiny aqua & white '84' sporty shirt-dress]). Stop it already!I don't care about the outfits, because I always design new ones for the dolls. For those that rely on 'Atelier Mattel', her plastic bright red 'imitation-pleather' (separate!) skirt is wonderfully fresh, if a bit short (risqué when seated). Her (separate!) sleeveless black T-shirt is emblazoned with 'Girl Power' (!!) Both top and skirt are fastened with that annoying 'catch-in-everything' Velcro. The boots are a great choice of footwear--low-heeled per Tall-dolls standard, no silly high-heeled shoes. But lilac? Black, tan or even white would have looked better.Summary: Beautiful Tall doll with distinctive hair and hot red 'pleather' mini-skirt--all a plus--but come on Mattel, you can do better. Let's ALSO have a dark-skinned (e.g. in the ponytail brunette Made-to-Move skin tone) doll with an Mbili or Grace facial sculpt and thick black braids, please.

Barbie Dolls have been with us since 1959 and are a cultural icon as well as a well-known and much-loved toy. From the original Barbie, which was unchanged for several years, recent years have seen the range of Barbies expand to include different ethnic groups and embrace diversity. This Doll is part of the "Fashionista" range ,which includes 9 different skin tones and 6 body types as part of the diversity ethos and, as the name suggests , the dolls come in a variety of fashionable outfits. This particular Doll comes with eye-catching braided hair, a motorcycle themed T shirt and faux leather skirt,to complete the look ,she also has what appear to be Doc Marten style boots which are in a rather odd pale lavender colour. The Doll appears to be quite a bit taller than the traditional Barbie doll,it's quite striking and very nice-looking.The manufacturers advise that this Doll is aimed at 3 to 8 year-olds ,I'd guess that it would appeal to older children than that and wouldn't be out of place as decoration in a teenager's room. Many adults collect Barbie Dolls and this will definitely appeal to them as well. It does appear to be well-made and should survive the attentions of those at younger end of the manufacturer's suggested age range.A good-looking doll that is good value for something of this quality..

This is one of a few Barbies that my daughter, age 8, has. Her favourites are the ones that look most like her, and when she has braids in she does look like this doll. Indeed we love the Fashionistas range because it offers diversity in a traditionally non-diverse Barbie universe (my daughter is mixed race) and at an affordable price. The doll also comes with some good clothes. She has a shiny, smooth red skirt, a "girl power" vest top with a motorbike on it, a gold-coloured bracelet and some purple flat-soled boots. It is a simple outfit that I think works well. The doll's pose with the bent arm on one side can't be changed as the arms and legs don't have joints at the elbows and knees.Overall then we love this doll because it looks like my daughter, and we love the Fashionista range because it offers a Barbie for everyone at an affordable price. ?

Stunning Barbie Fashionista.Beautifully presented. She adorns gloriously long, golden brown, braided hair. This is just wow, I love it!Black top with decal in pink, purple, and yellow on.Red leather skirt with added frill detail which goes diagonally down the skirt.Adorable wedge type, lilac boots with flower illustrations imprinted into them and finally, to finish off her look, a removable gold, chunky bracelet.I think the outfit is a little random, i mean, I love the design of each of them but I don't feel the red fits in, as beautiful as the skirt itself is though it's just the colour with the other colours. Not an issue though because we love to re-dress Barbies all the time!I would recommend, another glamourous, stunning fashionista to add to the collection.

If your child likes playing with Barbie dolls then they will love this new addition. My 8 year old niece has many Barbies and she is overjoyed with this new addition, which she has named Meghan ( she is a big fan of Meghan Markel) The braids and outfit, including gold bangle are also a big hit - ‘Meghan’ is very cool and trendy! The only down side to this Barbie is that the arms and legs don't have movable joints, as much of the fun in imaginative play involves making up stories and positioning the doll.I will definitely be buying more Barbies in the Fashionistas range as there is a wide variety with unique styles in hair and eye colours, size and skin tones.I think they are great and help educate children to respect and celebrate the differences in all people.

This doll is from a new range called Fashionista. What I like about these is that they include dolls with disabilities as well as mixed race and black skin tones. Two of the dolls in this range are in wheelchairs and one has a prosthetic leg. This doll has lovely braided hair. She has a mixed race skin tone and recognisably fashionable clothes. Her T Shirt reads Girl Power and the red plastic skirt is short but in a fashion way. Best of all she is earring purple boots with lace ups. I like them. She also wears a chunky gold braceletI have to say I do wish that Barbie had looked more like this a decade or two ago….I boycotted them back then. Now I am happy to give these to my granddaughters to play.As they finally represent roles that girls can imagine.

This is my 2rd Barbie from Fashionistas range. This Fashionistas Barbie range is to celebrate diversity with unique fashion and a wide variety of skin tones, eye colours, hair colours and textures, body types and fashions. I have never seen this before so I am very happy to live through an evolutionary period. It reflects the world we live in today.Fashionistas Barbie is not only offering young girls diversifying human experience from early age but also allows them to make friends with out any prejudice. It also offers infinite ways to play out stories and express their style.I am very happy to endorse this product for girls who like to play with Barbie dolls and to collectors like my wife wholikes to collect dolls.Overall 5 stars from us.

Pretty Barbie doll with long, dark pleated hair and large, dark eyes. There are no accessories with the doll and what you see is what you get. Her outfit is a simple T-shirt with a leather effect skirt and large, white, plastic boots. This is not a jointed doll and so you can't pose her and she won't stand unless you lean her up against something. Other outfits and accessories are available and clothes/shoes etc. can be swapped around among the other Fashionista dolls, of the same size, in the range. Pretty face, lovely hair that's easy to style but really simple presentation without any added extras makes her seem a little plain to be honest but my granddaughter really likes her.

I collect black Barbies and as soon as i saw this fashionistas hair I knew I had to buy her. She is a tall one. The hair is lovely, very slim braids. Her face is gorgeous and her skirt is just like a red leather one I had in the late 80's. The onle downside is I just wish all Barbies had made to move bodies. They are very expensive and they just dont move. Even if they just moved at the elbows and knees?!Oh well, mine is display only so it doesnt really mattet to me but if I were a child I would want the jointed ones at £25 each and many parents cannot afford that.Overall, a stunning addition to my collection.I paid £11.99

For less than a tenner you get a whole lot of doll, making this Fashionistas Barbie Doll with Long Braided Hair...wearing a girl power t-shirt excellent value. Barbie herself is made to the usual high standards and her out fit (including the red "pleather" skirt) is of good quality too. Certainly our seven year old niece was thrilled with her. She commented that is was nice to have a barbie (she has several) who looks a bit different. She particularly likes this Barbie's braided hair. For the money this is a quality doll that any Barbie loving child will enjoy.

This Barbie is a nice addition to any collection. The doll has warm dark skintone, very long braids, and some height to her. She’s more than an inch taller than a usual career Barbie (such as Airline Pilot Barbie). As she fills the box entirely from end to end, she must be the tallest of Barbies. The outfit is well-made, comprising top, skirt, boots and bangle. The Fashionista range has wilder outfits than most Barbies, and their styles might date quite quickly. That might affect long-term playability, but she is certainly one for the collection.

29.11.2019

This is a good-value Barbie, compared with some. She looks great, with wonderful hair and cool clothes, according to 5-year-old granddaughter. The Fashionistas range of taller dolls is new to us, and we like what we see, so will be buying more. The range is eminently collectable.Another reviewer said the doll she received was too tall for the Mattel packaging, but we didn’t find that. She was a tight fit, certainly, but not “bursting out”. There was a strong Amazon outer box, so the manufacturer’s box arrived in good shape.

My daughter loves barbies and ken dolls but always asks me why they don’t have different colours and sizes? (I know this is a five year old asking this not a 20year old!!) so I said this year for Christmas I would get her as many different shapes, sizes and colours that I can find. It is brilliant that fashionista dolls have it all! I’ve bought about 10 to show her there are more than just skinny dolls, blonde dolls, one colour dolls. Brilliant buy!

I love that Barbie is more than a pin up blond now and I love this doll. She's got a great sense of style, great hair and is beautiful without being blond and blue eyed. I have her to my friends daughter who wants more dolls that look like her, with different hair styles and can carry around proudly. I really love her outfit, it's loud and colourful and the doll itself is well made. My friends daughter is happy and has a new doll to enjoy.
