As an original IP from a relatively unknown studio, I went into this game with managed expectations and am happy to say that I had a blast from start to finish. The main narrative of the story is engaging (I'll avoid any details because the less you know beforehand the better), focused on a small group of characters while doing a great job of immersing the player in the broader backdrop of a bleak, alternate history Middle Ages France, with the conflict against the English and the onset of the plague casting a shadow over everything. This provides some great ambience while focusing on developing the main characters without too much distraction. The secondary characters are surprisingly endearing and with distinct personalities, but the focus is unquestionably on the relationship between Amecia and her brother Hugo (and all characters have great voice acting throughout). Though fairly simple, it's a touching story and is perfectly self contained while having enough world-boulding to allow possibility for sequels. It should be noted that the story is completely linear, so players who prefer open world or branching narratives may be left wanting.Gameplay is also straightforward but enjoyable. There are puzzle elements littered throughout, but most of the game involves a mix of stealth and combat, with additional abilities being unlocked throughout the game. The player usually has multiple options available to them for how to approach any combat scenario due to the multiple tools and environmental features, which means gameplay generally feels varied even if the core doesn't really change much throghout. Of note, there's a handful of boss fights which are surprisingly distinct (though not especially challenging), which was a pleasant surprise given there is very little emphasis on direct combat throghout the rest of the game.Plague Tale is fairly short and doesn't really feature anything revolutionary, but everything it does, it does well. The strong emotional core of the game coupled with its pleasantly varied gameplay keeps the experience totally enjoyable from start to finish. Apparently a sequel is already in the works and I can't wait.

Please support games like this from indie studios. After reading a few reviews, the premise for the game and watching a few segments from Youtube, I decided to check this game out. And it’s one of the best decisions I could make! The game starts off slow, but it does a beautiful job of showcasing the environment and slowly introduces us to the two main characters, Amicia and Hugo. From there, you start to see their relationship forming and both characters grow which is believable and the actors providing the voices are superb in their roles. The game itself is beautiful, showing historic France through a dark time, even in its really gritty environments it’s kind of hard not to admire the art on show here, there’s something so very ominous and morbid about the beauty of the scenery. And as for gameplay, it’s more stealth based and very much a linear experience. Coming off of today’s always online games or open world games it’s so refreshing to have a consistent linear story as your not having to travel from across a map to reach the next story segment. The gameplay is simple but the stealth segments are more puzzle based but does a good job as you get from point A to point B to advance the story. Which gets very interesting as you progress.Plague is kind of one of those games that has gone under the radar as it hasn’t been advertised as much as bigger albeit more disappointing triple A titles these days. If your a fan of a compelling story, well thought out characters, a beautiful soundtrack and stealth based gameplay then I cannot recommend this game enough. It’s not terribly long and doesn't have much in the way of replay value once the story has finished or after you earn all the trophies, but these days where single player games are becoming more of an afterthought in favour of always online micro transaction based unfinished models, this game is definitely one of the better ones in recent console generations.

A Plague Tale is an action adventure game set in France in the middle ages. You play as Amicia, a girl from a noble family who is hunted by the Inquistion for reasons you will discover, while at the same time avoiding a plague of rats. Gameplay is exploratory and stealth, will puzzle solving and fights in between. The characters are very well realised. The script and voice work are realistic and emotive. You learn to like the characters as a result. Gameplay starts off simply, with Amicia knocking fruit from a tree with a slingshot (in the tutorial level). Starting like this, I was afraid the game would not have much bite to it, but gradually the story and events start to build up,and the plot propels you forwards in playing the game as much as the playability. The introduction of the plague rats into the story is one of the unique parts of the game. As the story progresses, you keep having to think of new ways to avoid them, and along the way, new skills are unlocked that give Amicia different ways to fight back. The scenery is gorgeous, there are various collectibles to find, and the constant hunt for materials to do upgrades adds to the depth. Later chapters in the game do get harder, requiring you to chain together different types of attacks to overcome certain enemies. While more a stealth game for the majority of it's running time, at least two boss fights at the end of the game will definitely test your skills. There are also some very gruesome scenes, and some upsetting deaths, which provide a much more mature experience than the rather "pretty" setting initially promises. The closest match I can think of is Horizon Zero Down, although that was much more ambitious. A Plague Take is not free roaming, it has fixed play areas per chapter, but the sense of character journey and overcoming odds is relatable. I definitely recommend playing this.

I found this game had a few stages for me. In the prologue the graphics, particularly the characters hair (seems dotty) annoyed me, but you get past that and realise that the graphics apart from hair are very good. Then I found it a bit dull, as you spend 10 mins just running, then my interest got piqued and the whole middle section of the game, once you get into crafting and have more ammo types, I found engrossing. Towards the end, when Hugo has power I found it a bit silly. I'm also not a fan of bosses in game, as bosses always involve dying, reloading, learning a tactic, dying over and over until you figure it out, and I've always found having to learn from repeated death a poor game mechanic. However this doesn't take away from what is good story,a new setting and some fun gameplay. Yes its linear, in fact a bit too linear without any real sandbox areas, but you don't mind too much as you're too busy solving a progression of puzzles to get through to the next area.It has ideas taken from The last of Us, but seeing as I love that game, I don't mind that at all, but also has some of its own game mechanics on top. Buy and enjoy.

I must admit I knew nothing about this game but it caught my eye when I saw some streams on Twitch. It is a linear, character based and story driven game and it is just a joy after years of open world games filled with random filler and hours of fluff you'd rather not do just to continue the story. This has you focused on progression through a story in a lovely looking world. a very welcome blast from the past.It is set during the 100 years war and set against the arrival of one of the plagues. You play as Amicia , a young noble woman who has been raised mainly by her father, due to her mother hiding away trying to heal Amicia's brother of some unspoken disease.I won't spoil anything by saying more than that but all I can say is the story is interesting, the gameplay is fun with a big focus on stealth and learning various mechanics to silently deal with your enemies and the world looks stunning. This is an easy one to recommend. Give it a look, not many games like this get made anymore.

A lovely game with beautiful graphics, enigmatic music and a compelling storyline. Controls are straightforward and easy to master. With a simple combat system, your character has a sling which can fire rocks and later, other projectiles. Useful materials can be collected and used to craft either upgrades to your sling, ammo pouch, items pouch etc and also various projectiles to use in the sling. There are no manual saves, but automatic saves at various checkpoints throughout each chapter. If a main character is killed, then you restart at the last checkpoint. Gameplay is a mixture of stealth, distraction, various levels of combat where you have to quickly dispatch enemies with your sling,or by other methods using the environment or manipulation of the rats. There is also some co-operative puzzle solving involved.Gameplay and storyline starts fairly simple but gets more involved as the game progresses. The characters really grow on you, and the acting is superb.A game well worth buying.

Three chapters in and I'm convinced. I love gaming, it is one of my main hobbies. I think the best movies have a story that would not go a miss in the cinemas, and this is one of those rare gems of a game. This game is terrific, it is poignant, balanced, intriguing and covers a part of history that games havn't really explored. The story is heart-wrenching from which ever perspective you view the story from, whether the rich or the poor. The menus are so well designed and are minimal, without missing anything you'd expect. This game is a masterpiece of art and I do not say that lightly. Please buy this game as it proves that story-based, linear games still have a place.Or buy it so you don't miss out on the experience. This game is 'The Last of Us' good, and thats my favourite game of all time. Go into A Plague Tale with an open mind and youll be captivated.

I don't normally pay full price for games on release, but seeing the marketing for this game had me intrigued. So I treated myself and bought the game ready to install for release. So far I am happy with my decision.2.5 hours in and I feel like I'm really just getting started with the meat and bones of the story. That's not to say it's a slow start, rather that the character introductions, theme, and atmosphere as so well done and expertly integrated into the game-play that if feels like you're reading a book, watching a movie and playing a game all in one.Not much more I can say really, the strength of this game is in the atmosphere of it, which if you let it will suck you in entirely.Edit.I'm now 6+ hours into the game and the narrative is still going strong, that passed the value for money threshold for me. Also forgot to mention how good the music is.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting much "A Plague Tale: Innocence", but I can confidently say I'm blown away.I have now finished the game, and at roughly 15hrs long, it had me hooked all the way through with a great story, setting, locations, sound and characters. The game is more stealthy than anything else, and this is a good thing, seeing how most games want huge explosions every few minutes, something I'm getting tired off. There is some combat much later in the game, but this is fairly easy. There are some boss fights ( which I won't spoil ) and these are well thought out, with just enough challenge - there more puzzle-based. The spectacle of the final boss fight was REALLY good.Think of this game as more of an experience than a game,in the same way, "The Last of Us" was."A Plague Tale: Innocence" is a game I won't soon forget 10/10.

I'm about half way through and the story is great. The voice work is superb. You will die, a lot, there's a lot of trial and error to get past some sections which can get frustrating. There isn't a lot of fighting (at least as far as I've got), it's more about distraction and stealth than mashing a button and parrying. If you want a different sort of stealth game that doesn't rely on hiding until you can stab someone then this is well worth a look.It hasn't got the most original system of gameplay, if you've ever played Assassins Creed you will pick up on the stealthy aspects straight away with countdowns and alerts on guards. Distractions, crouching in grass etc.but it does try and do a few things in it's own way to try and stand up on its own. I think the story is strong enough to carry it as the big selling point.

First off I think this is one of the most beautiful looking games i've played to date, makes me wish I had a PS4 Pro & 4K TV to push the graphics even further, however it still looks great nonetheless on a normal PS4 & 1080p Full HD TV. I took a gamble buying this game at £30 after looking at screenshots & seeing a bit of gameplay on youTube, usually it takes a lot more for me to go out and buy a game but I'm so glad I did! This for me is one of the best games I've played in a long time but it won't be to everybody's tastes of course. If you like stealth games and story driven adventures then this is a must. I can only recommend this game but I would advise people who are interested to check it out on youTube. It truly is a hidden gem amongst all of the well known game companies titles out there. 9/10

Reviewers have said this is quite light on gameplay and length but I've found both of these things to be of no concern. There aren't too many systems but everything there is tight and several hours in I still haven't unlocked all the tools. It's not necessarily a bad point that the gameplay is 'simple' if that's what you're looking for. If you were a fan of Tenchu and Scarlett Assassin you'll enjoy the stealth elements in here too.Length wise, it's perfect for older gamers who are busy with work and family life or gamers who want a quick interim game as a pallete cleanser before going into one of the bigger games they're waiting for.The game looks absolutely stunning and better than some AAA games out there. If you're on the fence,it's well worth it at the £20ish price mark.Buy it!

Love this game looks great plays well characters look fantastic and there is nothing eles like it buy it one of the best games for a while.OK its not a open sand box game and very much a story you play out but so what when it looks this good and plays this well you just forget about it .The two man characters have a great sibling bond and react very well together . This is a phenomenal game. Consistently engaging, fantastic story-telling, world-building and characters, top tier graphics, perfect music / soundtrack, simple but surprisingly and consistently engaging gameplay with more depth than I was expecting, a solid playthrough length that isn’t too short, nor does it overstay its welcome. If you love narrative-driven games in a grim, dark setting, with well balanced plot and character development, this is the game for you.No open world or side quests here. It is linear, but not claustrophobically so (like a Call of Duty campaign). If any of the above ticks your boxes, do yourself a favour and buy this game. The developers deserve your support, and I would buy a sequel instantly (if one was to every materialise).

This game is phenomenal on every aspect. From detail to how well the story is scripted. You feel every second of the game it’s truly a masterpiece and worth every penny. It’s also extremely underrated and not heard of. One of the best story’s I have played in a game and I certainly Diddnt get bored I was immediately hooked. It’s rare a game does this to me these days most games are rushed and garbage but this is top quality. Make sure you play with the volume high enough to hear so you follow the story or even wear headphones to make the experience more overwhelming.A true master piece.I for one am very fussy for games over the last five years I can honestly say I have enjoyed around 7 games. This one is included.
