Finally the king of defying all theories of gravity has come to the king of all consoles- the PS2. By saying king I mean that Wipeout Fusion is a whole lot better than it's futuristic racing rival- Extreme G3 and that doesnt mean I am saying that Extreme G3 is a bad game at all.To start with the track designs for this racer are insanely good, good enough to excel them above the Wipeout prequels to make this game a dominant addition to the popular series. The well designed tracks incorporate just the right amount of twists and turns and loops to make them enthralling yet still 100% playable.I suppose that without the decent graphics, each track would not seem as appealing to the gamer as they would with them.Scenery looks amazing but at no point does it become a major distraction to your racing. Racing crafts also look good each with a unique appearence allowing you to pick out a particular team during the course of a race. The game's techno style soundtrack goes well with it's overall futuristic look, even if you do not really like the music you will soon appreciate it's presence and understand why it has been used. The are more options available in the game menu and aswell as the standard single player and multiplayer options there is the inclusion of a new mode called the zone mode in which you progress through different zones (hence the name) picking up speed as you go a long, all you have to do is stay in as long as you can. It's harder than it sounds and although simplistic has that sense of addictivity that many gamers out there like and enjoy.Handling of the race crafts has also been improved making it easier to control your racing whilst also allowing you to pick up your own style of technique. Perhaps the greatest improvement however is that of the combat, there are more weapons than before at your grasp including proton cannons, grenades and gravity bombs each allowing you to destroy your opponents, each adding that little more fun to the game as a whole. The inclusion of super weapons makes it even better where cool powerful weapons are made specific to a certain team, you can get such weapons as seismic field where a black hole is released and nitro rockets where your opponents will get frozen! Turbos and shields add more complexity and more things to do when you are in the middle of a race. The major flaw of the game however is that Wipeout Fusion is not for everyone and if not a fan as such you could get fairly bored fairly quickly. Apart from the occasional slowdown there is not a lot more negativity about this game and I think that everyone should at least give it a try.

So what is it exactly that makes me give this game 5 stars? Well here i shall explain.I have been a huge fan of the Wipeout series ever since the days of playing the 2097 demo on my brothers PSOne. When i heard about the release of a PS2 version called Fusion i was straight down the shops and buying. The game did not disappoint. The graphics are fantastic, the control system is top notch, the music is just as funky as always and the weapons are positively evil. The tracks are fairly easy to get to grips with although there are a few which will require some very quick reactions and some luck to win, especially in the AG Leagues. There are many more craft to choose from and whilst the old school are still there, the new ones will take some beating. Each team has two racers to choose from and as you progress you are awarded credits which you can upgrade your ship with. Eventually your ship will change colour and become black, this is where you are amongst the big boys with excessive speed, manoeuvrability, powerful weapons, extra shields and much more.People put this game down because apparently it is not as appealing as the likes of car racing games such as Gran Turismo, thing is though if you try the Zone challenge on Fusion and put the infinite shields cheat on (this will mean you'll have to exit because the whole point to Zone is too see how far you get before you get destroyed) trust me you'll need the cheat on to get passed level 50. I managed level 48 without cheating but then tried it with the shield cheat and got to level 99 before getting bored. The graphics at such high speeds are superb and the game can actually handle them! I'd be impressed with a PC being able to handle the graphics.Overall i'd give the game the following:Game play 9/10Graphics 10/10Weapons 9/10Entertainment 9/10Value for Money 8/10Story 7/10I've given it a low Value for Money rating because basically because it's not a high end game it shouldn't retail for more than £20, but that's me ;)

I did a double-take when I saw the ratings some people had given this game! What are you, closet Xbox users or something???Okay, I bought the original WipEout as my first game with the original Playstation on its first week of release and have eagerly bought every new version including WipEout 3 Special Edition when I already had WipEout 3. I'm telling you this so you know I am a long time WipEout fan...I was ready to hate this game after I heard how much they were changing things. I reluctantly bought it thinking it was going to be awful but soon discovered this captures what made all the other games good TIMES TEN!Gameplay is fast, furious and utter carnage; Driving fast still means a great deal, but now you also gain points toward winning the league from eliminations. Weapon fire also has a clear effect on your car as the game boasts a great damage model. The graphics generally are awesome and the speed incredible. There was some complaint below (or above!) about the leagues being to easy - Yeah, sure. I've beaten a few leagues (though there are many more to go) and although I don't have the option of playing it incessantly (I HAVE a life) I do play it regularly and you know how addictive WipEout can be when the adrenaline gets you! Even if the leagues were to easy, this game rivals Soul Calibur in the sheer amount of unlockable secrets not to mention the fact that the pleasure comes in competing in a league not beating it (Ok, beating the competition doesn't suck!)I could go on for hours about the quality of this game, citing the Soundtrack, the cars which VISIBLY upgrade when you spend money on them, the cool 'deathmatch' modes. But frankly I'd rather be playing the game.I don't know what prompted the other reviewers to be so down on this game - Rent it and see how wrong they are...Then click on that buy button!

I can remember way back in the 90's when the original Wipeout was released for the Ps1. It was totally ecstatic. It was one of the fastest racing games to reach any home console making that one a classic. Sometime after that They released the awaited 'wipeout 2097' which I think it was called with updated graphics, better game play and more speedy ships and tracks to try out. This was also one of the speed classics, which did manage to live up to the hype. Other games try to copy this but they never even came close to these instalments so many companies just gave up trying to. Then came 'Wipeout Fusion' which was released on the Ps2, which undoubtedly came with more action and more speed as anyone can take. When I started to play this game the start-up scene made the game look eerie and cool if you know what I mean, so I was eager to get a race happening. When selecting the modes I thought the layout was very basic but soon enough that didn't stand in my way. At the start of the game there is a very small limit to what you can pick so moving through to the career mode was essential for anyone with the need for speed. As soon as the commentator said go my mouth shot down. The graphics were top quality work and the amount of polish put into this game was immense. The background wasn't all chunky and controlling the ship was as smooth as silk. I was soon learning how to properly use both the right and left brakes to pull of perfect turns round corners. This game I have to say is definitely another classic and if you stick to the career mode you will see a lot coming out of this game. This might not appeal to all gamers though so all you racing fanatics if you don't have this grab this one as soon as you can.

Ok, so upon loading up Wipeout Fusion (having played all the other Wipeout games) you think to yourself I hope this one's gonna be amazing. Then you start playing it and it seems really different to Wipeout 3 or 2097, so you're disappointed. You try it a few times but can't get to grips with the ships, the music or the racing, so you give up on it right...? Wrong! The second time I tried to get into this game I was hooked, I can't go back to playing the old games now because they are so outdated compared to this one. The graphics are beautiful, the levels are amazing and the fun factor is immense. The AI ships are so much more competitive in this release that it adds a whole new level to the game.Racing becomes a real battle, not only for 1st place but for survival. There is a great depth to the game which demands repeated playing, and persistance in order to unlock all the hidden features. The soundtrack is made up or breakbeat and techno tracks which angered some people. Wipeout 3 was made in 1999 when Trance was huge, and many people expected a similar soundtrack on this game. However, Trance was killed off by Lasgo, DJ Sammi and Ian Van Dahl before this game was released so the producers chose a more contemporary breakbeat soundtrack which really works well as a backdrop to high speed racing. The only thing that I can't defend are the ships, apart from the Piranha, the EG-S and the Van Uber, most of the ships are really naff. But I really enjoyed completing this game (100%) and I think that it is the best high speed racing game on the market. I paid £5 for it! You just can't go wrong with that kind of money. Give it a shot.

I bought Wipeout Fusion the day it came out. I knew it would be good because the people who make it obviously know their sh*t.Wipeout Fusion, to me has the same kind of feel as Wipeout2097.So if you prefere that to Wip3out then you should like this. The tracks are more inventive then ever with loops and jumps. Some of the tracks go too far and you are flying in a wide open space and you don't know where to turn but once you play that track a few times you get used to it.2 player ain't so good because the creators had to rush the release of the game so there is only a split screen option. One of my favourite games on Wipeout is 'Zone.' In this you have to fly a ship with 6 thrusters and go round a track.Everytime you pass a checkpoint the ship speeds up and you can't slow down. This is a game where you have to have had a lot of practice on steering the ship.Wipeout Fusion has fantastic music if you like breakbeat and house with tracks by BT, Plump Djs, Future Sound of London, Orbital etc. The game-life should be forever because you can go back to all racing games.Well worth the cash if not just for the tunes as with every other Wipeout.

Of all the PS2 games I've played so far (MGS2, GTA3, State Of Emergency...) this is by far the most immediately satisfying. I say "immediate" because the others require far more patience and groundwork to reap rewards - you can just pick this up get an immediate PS2 "fix".It's great fun just working your way up the numerous leagues and that's before I realised I could upgrade my ship! (yes I never read the instructions). It's a cleverly laid out game where you progress through the leagues through a combination of improved skill and improved ships. I particularly liked the fact that in later stages you almost *have to* use the most recently unlocked ship to get to the next level.Anyone who lovesracing games will go wild about this.Only criticisms are clipping which occurs in some later stages in scenes where there's a lot of action, and I've had a few unusual crashes (e.g. Auto Pilot engaged before going through the finish line and the ship just carried on lapping endlessly!!)

If you played the demo, like me, you may have been sadly disappointed with it. But trust me, you must have the FULL game to get the experience we've been yearning for since "Wip3out". More weapons, more ships, more tracks, more everything! As you'd expect the soundtrack is a superb techno romp with no fillers in sight. The PS2 gives this game the life it deserves, especially on a widescreen tv! The difficulty level is pitched just right, keeps you hooked, desperately trying to unlock ships, weapons and tracks. The challenge modes are nice and varied, the leagues provide a long-term project, while trusty arcade mode gives you that "quick fix". My only complaint about "W.O.Fusion" is the somewhat skimpy instruction booklet, which explains nothing about earning weapons, tracks etc. and concentrates almost entirely on background and info about the teams etc. In summary: The BEST WipeOut yet!

I have been a fan of wipeout since the first game came out long ago, my fave game is 2097. i am quite active in the wipeout community. when this game came out way back, all i heard from die hard fans is that it was awful. this made me avoid the game... until now. it is amazing. the ships are nice, smooth and easy to control. the graphics are crisp and vibrant and the tracks flowing. the only flaws i find is the over use of the weapons and the open sections on the tracks.all in all this is a nice game to play and deserves a place in your wipeout collection.

Basically if you like fast, futuristic racing games.....you'll love WipEout Fusion. As I haven't played any of the other games in the Wipeout series, I can't compare WipEout Fusion to them. But having bought this game, I am hooked. The graphics are very good, the sound is excellent, and there are plenty of extra weapons/modes to unlock. The only problem is that sometimes when there is a lot of action at one time, the game slows for a few seconds. However, this is only a minor problem, and overall doesn't really spoil the game.5/5. Buy this game!

what an awesome game....listening to some people speak about how bad and boring this game is made me think maybe they are right but then again some of these people also think that robbie williams is an influential artist and that big brother is a good tv programme....so being a wipeout freak i purchased the game and was blown away! yes it is easy to get into and you get through leagues quickly but what the hell....top notch graphics combined with an awesome soundtrack (no robbie) make this an essential game for ps2 owners!

Since I bought this a week ago everyday I've sat in work itching to get home and play it again.Gorgeous graphics and fast, slick gameplay are accompanied by a soundtrack to die for.The learning curve for difficulty has been brilliantly implemented with extra tracks, weapons, challenges and features released gradually as you progress. Its one of those games that you can still see when you close your eyes at night - fantastic... in fact the only reason I'm not playing it now is because my girlfriend is watching the telly!

This is a great game, only showing its age with the menu system, which is a textbook case of style over function. Once you've figured out the quirks of navigating this menu, the racing itself has aged very well with a very high frame rate and responsive controls.I was almost tempted to remove a star because of the menu system (it really is that bad) but decided not to as ultimately I don't enjoy the game any less because of it.

Totally amazing, the graphics and fluid gameplay area incredible. Range and capabilities of weapons is breathtaking. Only problem is that sometimes the action gets too much for my playstation 2 and the framrate dreases for a second or two, but not very often. The tracks are quite amazing, ranging from cities to jungles. If you want a racing game to be proud of, buy this one for sure.

WipeOut is a great but very very hard game to get used to. though once you've got the hang of it you'll be hooked. it has seven levels( you only start with 3, you have to unlock the rest)which get harder as you go but the highlight is all the weapons. they vary from flamethrowers to grenades but can all do damage if you use them right. All in all a brill game.
