I bought this tin in order to use for a friend who was leaving on maternity leave. I didn't bother with the recipe book I used my own which was a recipe for a chocolate cake, a more firmer choc cake rather than the dense softer gooier brownie type recipe.Only fill the tin until you cover the center bit as the outer sides are not high. In the picture above the tin on the right is the top of the heart and when baked then turned out you will see two circular troughs with a raised bit in the middle. I noticed when I looked at the center bit it was lower than the outer edges of the cake. I used a cake cutter to trim the outer edge down to the same height as the middle, this is very important. If you don't when you put top and bottom together there will be a gap in between the filling which will inevitably fall away from the 2 round troughs that make the top of the heart and you will end up with just a round circle when the cake is cut. Also make sure the filling fills both top and bottom cavities right to the very top evenly or you will get the same outcome.Another trick I used was to have melted dark chocolate and when top and bottom are cool I sealed the cavities by brushing on a thin layer of dark chocolate then put in fridge to harden for 10 minutes. The effect is you will have a thin layer of crunchy chocolate around the heart shape giving it more definition. Finally my friend had a craving for Vanilla slices so I used the crème pâtissière to fill the cavity. I used a shop bought egg custard and used Madagascan vanilla pod to flavor (didn't risk making from scratch because of the eggs). Fill both cavities and leave to set then put in the fridge for 1 hour to set firm. Once out of the fridge brush the outer edge and center bit with melted chocolate and turn the top onto the base very carefully. Put back in the fridge so the chocolate cools and seals top and bottom together.Decorate as requiredThe crème pâtissière worked fantastic and the heart shape was formed perfectly with a thin layer of chocolate surrounding the heart. For fillings I would say if you can't turn the top upside down to place on the bottom it will not form a good heart shape. If using Angel Delight you can either use slightly less milk so it becomes firmer or you will have to put the top and bottom in the freezer so the Angel Delight becomes hard like ice cream then put top and bottom together and place in fridge. You can take out from fridge an hour before eating, the cake should soften up but the Angel delight should still be firm.Use anything that sets firmly like crème pâtissière or a flavour butter cream mix (2:1 ratio, 2 parts Icing to 1 part unsalted butter), you can add food dye to colour to your specification.Fillingscrème pâtissièreAngel Delight (modified)Butter CreamJellyEgg CustardLemon Curd (modified)Ice CreamAnything that stays liquid will not work i.e Cream.Have Fun!!!!

Got this pan as I wanted to try something different for my husbands birthday cake.I have used Wilton pans before and all my cakes have turned out lovely. This particularly pan did not disappoint. I chose a chocolate sponge with a butterscotch centre and a salted caramel cream cheese frosting.(I have included photos of the outcome).Tip 1: I recommend sealing the two halves together around the outer part with a thin layer of icing (same colour as your sponge), this is because the VERY tall cake was tricky to cut into small slices due to the top half trying to make a break for it as it relied solely on the filling to keep it together!Tip 2: Always clean your knife after each slice to keep yourheart centre pretty.

Expensive but worth every penny. Instructions could be better, I discovered that the best way to find out which way up the tin goes prior to filling is to stand it on the work surface with the rolled edges of the pans upmost, then fill. I greased and floured the pans prior to use and the cakes came out perfectly. Be warned though, it makes a huge cake. It took a six egg mixture to fill both pans. Would have thought that recipe for mixture would be included but all you get is advice to use Packet cake mix. When filling the cake, make sure you cover the dome on one of the pans, this is important as if you dont, you will not get the heart shape.

I decided to have a go at making this as a practice, as I want to make one for a gathering on Wednesday, and I am so glad I did!I made a double lot of 'normal' sponge mix, so 200g butter, 200g caster sugar, 150g s-r flour, 50g cocoa and 4 eggs, and it just about filled one of the tins 3/4 full (which is where it should be anyway).Luckily, I had enough to do the same amount for the other tin, and they are now happily cooking and have risen to the tops of both tins, but still, that's a lot of mix for one cake!!!So keep in mind that these are HUGE tins that take a lot to fill them. Totally worth the money, just HUGE @___@

We ordered this cake tin as seeing it being used on Nerdy Nummies for a Portal themed cake. The results were great. The heart shape in the centre came out really well.As well as easy to follow instructions, there are also some recipes given in the instruction box (which I think are for the cakes shown on the box) and we can't wait to try them out.I would highly recommend this product.

I gave this as a Christmas present to my Niece, who has started to experiment with baking. She was delighted to know she could bake something with a difference. The product seems sturdy, which is what you would expect from a Wilton product. The price was good and so was the delivery of the product. This product adds a surprise to baking and is a great idea.

These tins are good fun. Be warned that it makes a very tall cake! I had to use a 9 egg batter to fill the tins sufficiently. Remember to grease the tins Very well. Overall, I think this is a great product; it is good quality and it works. I would recommend to all.

Looks good quality, but disappointed that recipes are American and advise cake mixes which I would not use, have yet to try it so cannot comment beyond that.
