Cake pan arrived with scratches and minor dings. Not enough to hurt using it, but enough to be irritating. Also, the elmo face with the cooking directions on the back was missing (the glue, however, was still there). So, I will be doing a bit of trial and error on figuring out cooking times. Again, not that big of a deal - figured I would have to do a trial or two anyways with the different thicknesses of cake the mold will be giving. The thing that really caused me to knock a star off, however, was that it had quite a bit of text stamped on it, and the stamping was done so hard that it actually made it all the way through the pan. Doubt it will make any difference in the texture of the cake, but it is a poor design / manufacturing feature that really just screams "cheap product by the cheapest manufacturer, but licensing costs means that you are still paying an arm and a leg (relatively speaking, of course) for this cheap thing that you will only use a couple of times before your little one no longer cares about elmo!" Eh, whatever. Doubt anybody will read my little rant anyways, but I was irritated today when I opened it up and saw just what condition it came in, so figured I would vent a bit. It is cheap, but remember, you won't be using this for 500 odd cakes! You will make 2-3 up front to get the cooking down, than perhaps 1-2 more as the little one gets older, then it will be retired to the garage sale bin. So, with that sort of a life span in mind, it should work out just fine.

Made this for birthday number 2. I am NOT a baker by any stretch but it came with clear, step-by-step instructions, and I think it turned out OK and certainly satisfied the toddler (who unfortunately stuck a finger into the icing before candles got on - see pic!). I would recommend greasing and flouring generously as we had a little stickage with the eyeballs, and there is definitely some contouring to the design that you need to effective placement of frosting. I was able to salvage the stuck piece and stick it back on the cake. I used a red-velvet mix. Mixing the red icing was the most tricky--see other online instructions for this--but Wilton's no-flavor Red concentrated gel coloring worked well with the cream-cheese frosting.I reserved a little to mix up the orange color for his nose. the eyeballs and mouth were pre-packaged icing (back and white) with applicator tip attached.

The Elmo Face cake pan worked really well. I wasn't at all sure how well the cake itself would turn out of the greased/floured pan, but the Wilton instructions worked very well. And the instructions on how to frost/decorate were also good. The only problem I have with the pan - and Wilton - is that Wilton should make it clear that it's wise to keep it out of the dishwasher (it's stated on the instructions that hand washing is recommended, but doesn't say *not* put it in the dishwasher), since a single run through turned the metal all white and left this weird film that I cannot wash away. It's probably fine, but it looks really unsightly and I'm hesitant to reuse it...if I ever will. Some research points to a problem with lemon or possibly lime in the dishwashing detergent, but I pretty sure mine did not have either, so I'm not sure what happened.

This cake pan made it super easy to make a perfect Elmo cake! My 1 year old loved his Birthday cake as did his party guests, it was such a hit my 6 year old wants one for his next Birthday. The only downside is the cake was a little small for the party we were having. It was a simple remedy as I made him the 1 cake using the wilton cake pan and a small round one specifically for the birthday boy. If your little one loves Elmo I highly recommend this product. I am an inexperienced cake maker so if I could do it anyone can. Instructions are also included on the insert. One note in order to get the true red I would recommend getting the premade red wilton frosting,it took a whole bottle of their frosting coloring to get the right color.

I searched high and low for this cake pan. Sometimes party supply or craft shops like Party City or Michaels carry these, but none of mine did. I looked on Ebay for a used one, but even those were selling (after shipping) for more than a new one on Amazon. I did also buy some diapers so I would get the free Amazon super saver shipping. I freaked out a bit over the cake possibly sticking and oversprayed the pan with Pam, which made the flour stick more. Might be worth the couple $'s to buy the wilton pan spray and not have to worry about sticking. Otherwise the cake came out great. I made a sheet pan cake as well and placed the Elmo face on top of the sheet pan cake since we had a lot of partyguests.

This pan works great. I didn't have any problems with the cake sticking to the pan--just make sure you use plenty of Crisco and cover it completely with flour. The frosting directions are pretty simple to follow--you can use the star tip to decorate, or use a spatula. I'm lazy, so I used the spatula and it looked pretty good. I also used the Wilton icing coloring, and couldn't quite get the red red enough. I think this is because they call for 1 1/2 cups of frosting for the red, which seemed a bit much. I'd probably lessen that to 1 cup and it should be enough. Overall, a good choice if your little one loves Elmo!

My two-year old grandnephew is into Elmo right now, so I purchased this cake pan to make his birthday cake. This was one of the easier specialty character cakes that I've done over the years and he recognized him right away and loved the cake. Because the whole cake was just the face as opposed to several that are of the entire body, it was much easier to decorate and the indentations were much more distinct. Hopefully, he'll still be into Elmo for a little while longer. I was a little worried that he might be upset about cutting into Elmo's face. However, being all boy, he giggled and laughed and wanted the nose!

This pan was so awesome and helpful for my sons birthday. Fits a standard 'box cake' and cooks evenly. I've found it a bit of a hassle to clean, due to not putting it in the dishwasher. I also had a hard time distinguishing where Elmo's pupils were, and the results of guessing made every cake look like it had boobs, hahaha! I also had a very hard time seeing the indents of the sides of Elmo's mouth. (I've used it three times and had those problems consistently) other than that, it's very cute and I would recommend this, (and other characters in Wilton's line) to others.

First of all, you need to follow the directions and really grease the heck out of the pan. Make sure that you get into all of the cracks and crevices, because anything that is not greased will stick.Once my wife made a "practice cake" and finally understood this she was able to make an awesome Elmo Birthday Cake for our daughter. I suggest you buy some frosting dyes to get the vibrant red and orange that you will need for Elmo. It was a lot of work, but it came out as good as anything you would pay something like $50 at a specialty cake store.

It was a great mold. I used a Duncan Hines dark chocolate brownie mix and used 2 eggs to make it cake-like. I covered the whole thing with home-made icing (so very few ingredients), decorated with strawberries and an orange peel nose. Two mini-oreos for the eyes. Blueberries for the mouth.WARNING! I did cut myself pretty bad on the actual mold when handling it which is why I am giving it a 4. Be careful when handling and be careful not to leave it around where children can get it.

I followed the directions on the package and I made a birthday cake for my two-year-old that looks like Elmo's face. End of story. You can't really ask for more than that. The one negative I'd have about this is, it took so much icing to make Elmo's face no one really wanted to eat it (I wasn't about to try and use fondant). But I planned for that and the adults had angel food cake, fruit, and ice cream. My daughter got to tear into the Elmo cake all on her own and loved it.

You won't be disappointed if you buy this. It made a really nice cake. I'm not very good at cake decorating. I just swirled the icing on with a knife and it turned out nice. I will admit it was hard to get the icing red, as doing so made it very bitter and therefore inedible. I used a small amount red food colouring and covered it with red sprinkles--lots of red sprinkles. My son loves Elmo, so he was very excited. Great buy, when on sale.

This pan served its purpose and helped me make an Elmo cake for my son's 2nd birthday. It has easy-to-follow instructions, and tips for making icing as well. It was a little smaller than I was envisioning, but it was plenty of cake for the 15 guests we had. I would consider myself an amateur baker, and this was really easy to make. The pan left nice indentations in the cake where I could follow the lines for the different colors of icing.

I followed the other reviewers' advice and made sure I floured the pan really well before pouring in the cake batter. Once it was done cooking, it slid right out of the pan. I used black decorating frosting and then added food coloring to homemade buttercream icing for the nose and face. Even though my daughter screamed and cried at the sight of it, it was still a hit at her birthday party! Can't wait to use this again next year!

I bought Elmo's cake pan for my son's 2nd birthday and it was a huge hit. I have never decorated a cake with as much detail as this cake, but it was worth it. It took some time to decorate, but turned out great. Just have to remember to grease the pan and then flour it really good otherwise the cake may not come out completely, especially the nose. So whether you are a cake artist or a beginner like me, you can do it.
