This is in my view such a marmite game. You'll either love it or hate it simple as, so if you can rent/borrow before you buy I would strongly recommend that first.I personally love it. It so mad and bizarre in story with its quirky manga-esqe humour you cant help laugh at the mad story or some of the things you roll. You at some points loss complete track of whats going on and just want to roll.GameplayYou play Prince Katamari- The katamaris where ruler of space and the comos and all the planets in it. Now the planets have gone and need to be put back. You control a Katamari, a ball where you roll around the screen and collect anything/everything you can.Its that simple idea - basically in whatever setting your in water/camp/school you basically roll absolutley everything you can.Growning in size the bigger items you can pick up. I always laugh when its big enough to roll the rabbits/deer or even god! Its the sheer panic in their voices as you carry on your path of rolling. Now this sounds quite simple.. and the first few levels are, but with further progress it gets harder and harder with time requirement or item collection or dont let your burning katamari go out added!!. It really is a well thought out game. You have to collect all manners of objects to get 100% on each level which takes some doing I can tell you, So longevity is there in masses and add a 2 player option it makes it a must have. The only bad thing is possibly the graphics which pretty much are enhanced PS1 graphics but you really dont notice it as your busy ploughing your way through the game. The sound as well is a mix of mad Japanese rock/dance and I swear tom jones (sounds like it anyway). Everything in this game compliments each other.Buy it if you like a challenging puzzle game, but only if rolling up school children or bears or some king talking about his chin is funny. The humour is a very strong selling point, but you need to realise this isnt a straight forward story and will confuse the heck out of you in points.

This game is totally briliant and original!Games are like cars.. Everyone bangs on about how they are all the same and there is no originality, and then something comes out that is original and outstanding, and the general public are afraid of it because it is different.. a bit like the Ford Ka, or the smart car.. totally different to what was around when it came out, but still many dare not try it cos it's different!Anyway, Katamari is made by Namco, and similar to Pac-man, you want to collect everthing you see, but avoid the things that will hurt you. This game is as good as you are. If you cannot tell what on screen is small enough for you to roll up,you will get very frustrated at bouncing off of things and losing bits you have already collected. (things must be about 1/3rd the size of your Katamari, or if bigger, must be very thin)Also, the more skill you have at remembering where things are, the better your chance of success, or excess, if you are trying to perfect the game. Also, once you know your way around, you'll be able to sprint around at top speed without crashing into things bigger than you.If you invest the time and effort into really taking in all the surroundings, and their relative sizes, you'll be rolling up the clouds in the sky in no time..You truly can become absolutely enormous in this game, and the tunes are so bonkers, it's genius. If you want to play the same old football or racing games, where all that changes are the cars or the people in your team, then this is not for you. If you want to find out why this is such a cult game (like Gitaroo Man) and why it is so rewarding when you get good at it, then this is for you. There is a reason why people will pay over £30 for a second hand version of this game. you wouldn't get that kind of resale value from ISS pro 04 or ridge racer 3 or whatever!!!Buy it, love it, and sell it at a profit!!Ian

It's like nothing else you have ever played (unless you played the original of course!)It's one of those games with intuitive controls, and plays on a basic instinct. Remember as a child, playing with Playdough... perhaps at school sticking things together... sculpting a rubber or pencil erazor. Rolling up elastic bands in to a big bouncy ball? Rolling up Blue Tack? Perhaps not, but rolling things around is the basis of many great sports. This game would have you think it's a sport. With fans (hence the name!) A sport that you could start rolling up bits of things on a living room floor... but as you get to roll up bigger things (erasors, pencils, remote controls, tennis balls, cats, dogs, people, cows, cars, walls, buildings, landmarks...) the perspective just keeps changing. It is another of those family games that you could play with your kids. Fun even to watch, socialable and can be played either passing the pad and taking turns... or together... or competitively against each other. Any violence in the game could be compared to violence you might find watching Sponge Bob Square Pants or something. Not offensive! It will not be for those whom cannot get past rather strange dialog, or striking and stylised graphics. But for those whom have an open mind, there is a powerful, fun and addictive heart of a game beating away under all that.If you are unsure about commiting money to buy this game, try and borrow it from somewhere. It's something a gamer should play at least once. Kids could play it, but adults find something challenging and fun there too.

Finally the West is treated to an entry of the Katamari series (or two, with the PSP version), and it's been worth the wait! The gameplay is ridiculously simple, and awesomely individual, a welcome break from the increasingly grey avalanche of footy/racing/WWII titles. It's as simple as rolling around a sticky, lumpy ball, or "katamari" (think Tyco's "Bumble Around Baby" toy) collecting various earth trash in order allow the King Of All Cosmos to create a galaxy of new stars composed of detritus. Well, it is Japanese. From coins to spoiled children, pizzas to Russia, you will roll anything and everything, in your quest to repopulate the heavens. One of my favourite features, each item rolled up can be viewed in an encyclopedia, complete with funny descriptions. And I must mention the humour, for it's rare that a game actually makes me laugh (intentionally), but Katamari has joker spirit to the core. From the horrendously cool character design, to the animations (such as sports mad adolescents obsessively doing sit-ups, who try to 'sit-up away' from you as you approach), namco has created a game with huge personality. And yes, the graphics are as basic as the screenshots, but it works so well, in a post-ironic-kid's-TV-show way. So that's it, Katamari is one of those games that you will keep returning to in between other games, for a quick hit of addictive brilliance. Why 4 stars? Well because Amazon doesn't allow 4.5, and because 5 should be reserved for games that redefine gaming completely.

Namco are famous for making beat-em-ups like Tekken and Soul Calibur, then out of nowhere We Love Katmamari came along a bonkers collect them-up puzzle game. The object of the game is to roll a ball around and pick up objects which start off being small, but later on you will be collecting buildings from a city. The first level starts off in a small room as you progress though the game you roll around a school, outside and even under water. The graphics are bright and colourful if a bit basic but really suit the game as it's all about having fun. The music is amusing and I sometimes find myself taping my foot + humming the tunes as I play. I came very close to giving We Love Katamari four stars because it lacks mass appeal but I did'nt.The reason being is when you have been playing games for over 20 years and come across a game which is unique, original and excellent to play it deserves recognition. So there you go if you want to play a game totally different to the norm I really recommend We Love Katamari and hopefully you will enjoy it's madness too

I bought this game just to see what everyone was talking about, and was quite prepared to trade it in once my curiosty was satisfied. after playing it however I don't think I, or anyone who has played it, could show a game with such style and character such a lack of respect, after the clear effort the creators have gone through. As an experienc this game is up there with the likes of Shenmue and Ocarina of Time, in terms of how long it will stick in the mind. The graphics are amazing, theres something happening everywhere you look, and the sound is very amusing, and often very catchy. As a game however it is a great original idea, but can become quite repetitive and tiresome, especially as the "katamari" itself can be quite sluggish, and you often feel like your hauling the thing around the level as opposed to rolling it.But it is immensly satisfiying to roll up everything in your view, in a way alike to a high score in tetris, and it will play on your mind when you finish, guaranteeing it a permanent place in your collection.

Quite simply the strangest, most surreal and original video game I have ever played. If you are the kind of gamer that likes esoteric games such as Rez, ICO, Shadows of the colossus, Okami and anything less mainstream with subtlety and playability, then this will certainly rub your rhubarb! Most of my friends, when watching me play this game, are simply baffled and confused. Firstly that anyone could gain any pleasure from such a simplistic concept of "rolling crap up", secondly the whole crazy premise of the game itself. Some have even made accusations that I am not serious and am feigning my love of this game as a "joke". I have a PS3 and would rather play games like this, than any of the over hyped bland games that seem to be prevalent nowadays. The greatest recommendation, I believe, is when a game, music or any other work of art, is ignored by the masses and loved by the knowing few.

It's certainly a unique game and loads of fun too! Roll up balls of stuff to a required size (or within a required time).Different challenges give you different scenarios with themed stuff to pick up and as you go laong and meet new characters with new challenges the size of stuff and bizarre factor increases. So start by rolling around a living room and picking up paperclips, crayons, thimbles, batteries. Then try your hand at meadows of sweets, pools of fish and crabs, pizza off the streets - maybe you might work your way up to some really big stuff ...It's quite addictive and had me laughing out loud.Only downside for me was the bits with the king converting my balls of stuff into stars and planets got really annoying, and I wished it had been a bit bigger - progressed a little slower perhaps to give me longer gameplay enjoyment.

I loved Beautiful Katamari on the Xbox 360 to being with, but it got stupidly difficult quite early on, and stopped being fun. So I got a second-hand PS2 so I could play We Love Katamari (they're cheap enough now that this isn't a totally mad thing to do...). It has a nice level of difficulty, and tends to measure success on the beating of your own previous scores rather than meeting an impossible target. If you've never played a katamari game before, be prepared for a lot of tongue-in-cheek humour, very bright colours and fast-paced squeaky J-pop as you roll a sticky ball around a world, trying to make it as big as possible as you roll over particular types of thing. It's more relaxing than it sounds!

I've just started playing this and, hands-down, it's the most imaginative and bonkers game I've ever seen. I was laughing so much at the insane intro, and then became captivated by the gameplay, which is simple and brilliant. The music is just so right and the cut-scenes are perfectly strange. Now I'm floating around my Katamari Cosmos, spellbound by the whole childlike experience.I'd heard about this game before but was still amazed by its trippy genius. It's like a Japanese Monty Python... on acid. You can keep your Call of Dutys and Tom Clancys - this is where it's at - a warped and wonderful otherwordly delight :)

Katamari is one of the most original games I have ever played. Its just awesome how the physics of the game works and every level is interestingly challenging and different. My favourite levels are the ones where you begin in a bedroom, collecting items such as pegs, rubbers and pencils and your goal is to reach an astonnishing 500 meters in diameter! You venture out into the garden and the street collecting items until you can even pick up the house you started in!I am in love with this game and it is a must have for anyones collection!Plus the soundtrack is brilliant.

I saw a review of this in the Guardian and my Girlfriend wanted it straight away. This game is mind bogglingly addictive. The tunes will have you singing along even though they are in Japanese (Where can I get those tracks especially the flower level one?). You roll a ball into things to make it bigger and quite frighteningly this is more mind bending than crack. Even once the game is complete you will be going back to improve your score and make more stardust (Long explanation).

I seen this game in a magazine and thought what a lot crap, then i played a demo of it and found myself playing the demo again then again and again, until i was addicted as i say this isn't for everyone but give it a try you never know you might like it.The gameplay consists of rolling over everything in sight to make your katamari as big as you can.The weird graphics and fantastic orignal sountrack will keep you coming back for more all in all a super game.

12.3.2016

Possibly one of the best games to have ever come out for the PS2, We Love Katamari is a well-rounded game full of humour and colour (literally and metaphorically). I'd reccommend it any day!! In fact, I'd say that if you haven't played it, you should!! Addictive and ever so loveable, watch hours simply roll away as you collect the minutiae and later, the larger things, in the world around you :)

Why can't more games be like this? A totally original experience.Brilliantly addictive concept delivered in beautifully stylised and surreal Japanese splendour. The music is quirky and catchy (I've been humming the tunes all day) and the psychedelic graphics remind me a little of The Beatles' Yellow Submarine.Loadsa fun!!Buy it!!
