Being someone who was one of the first people in the UK to buy a CD-writer (at considerable expense at the time), I have moved with technology as, but not necessarily as soon as, new products become available. It had taken some time for me to be convinced that I had a personal need for blu-ray but having had several packages that could not fit on a DVD or even a dual-layer DVD prompted the change. Curiously, there is little price differential between Blu-ray disks and dual layer DVDs and, in some instances, the latter is strangely the more expensive! There are known compatability issues between some drives and certain media, hence the wild mixture of comments ranging between rubbish and excellent for either hardware or media, most of which can be attributed to a mismatch. Change the media and the drive becomes more relaible. Getting the information is not easy and can be costly if you get it wrong. LG drives are generally regarded as amongst the most forgiving. As blu-ray media is relatively expensive, producing coasters (wasted disks) is something to be avoided when possible. Hence the need for B-RE rewritables. Although more expensive than the normal B-R, they can be re-used and cause no wastage in those situations where I have some doubt about the quality of content etc. Although it takes a little longer, I can then copy from B-RE to B-R once I know that the compilation was successful.Found to be 100% reliable so far, some disks have so far been re-used about 20-25 times without a single problem yet. Therefore the product is fully recommended!UPDATE @ 3/2012Unlike some other Verbatim media that is reportedly sub-par or perhaps fakes, these are the real deal.

I have a Pioneer BDR-209EBK (BD-XL) Drive (Shows up in device manager as BDR-209M) in my desktop PC for archival purposes, and can confirm that the drive will write these disks perfectly fine at 12x even though Verbatim have only rated them as 6x. Burns were tested with Nero's post-burn file verification / SecurDisk surface scan.Verbatim are the only brand of optical media I will buy. They have served me well with DVD burning on various LiteOn drives (one of the most universal manufacturers out there for compatibility with different optical media brands). You can save a lot of money by buying cheaper media like TraxData, AData, AOne, Memorex, Ritek, etc, etc.But you are taking chances with the longevity of the burns they produce. If your just burning stuff for friends, these grade disks will be fine, but for archiving of precious data, photos, music, etc. that you still want to be able to access in 5-10 years, Verbatim disks are the best.Back in the day I used to use their 3.5" floppy disks, which is how they got started. With their disks, I had the lowest failure rate of any brand I used, which at the time included the likes of Sony and 3M/Imation too. Spend a little more, and be safe in the knowledge that your precious data / memories are safe.

There's a reason verbatim are the number one name in optical media, and it's quality first and foremost. Unlike other discs I've used in the past, I've always found Verbatim to be extremely reliable and very good value, I've had far more issues with more expensive discs. I fear the previous reviewer may have fallen foul of the vicissitudes of Dual Layer recording through no fault of the discs. I can't be certain of course, I can only speak for myself, but my batch was, as ever, absolutely perfect; no expensive drinks coasters here! I use a lot of blank discs, and I keep coming back to Verbatim. The capacity of these particular discs means I can keep entire photo albums on one disc, which for an amatuer photography enthusiast is a massive bonus; no longer shall I have walls of discs cluttering my shelves! I bought direct from Amazon, and as ever the delivery was prompt, and their customer service is second to none, I'm extremely happy with my purchase. Well done Verbatim and Amazon, consistently exceeding my expectations.

Ok, so you'll need a blu-ray burner to burn / read these discs. But that said...They are great for data backup storage. External hard drives can fail, whether solid state or disc based. So I like to back up important family movies, memories etc on something else as well, and blu-ray discs are a great option. These ones can store up to 50GB each, so enough for tons and tons of photos (my entire back catalogue in fact, and that's quite a few from years of travelling). They can also hold lots of .mov files, great for family videos etc.Longevity, I'm not sure. Too soon to say. We were told back in the 80s that CDs were indestructible. It turned out they weren't. If these last me 10 or 20 years, with care, I'll be happy, I'll have made new copies by then, assuming I'm still around to do so! I don't much mind if they outlast me, or not. But if anyone needs to archive really important material for future generations, they might prefer to use the highly stable and reliable M-discs instead.

Brought these to store a large amount of video and picture files. They are designed so that you can print onto the disc, but can still easily be written on as needed. The discs themselves seem to be well made and don't appear to be any more flimsy than other brands I have used in the past. I have stored and transferred data to them with no issues so far. In terms of longevity, then this is only proven by many years of storage, which is somewhat open to interpretation (as they still use an organic material). M-disc, which is more expensive is the only type of disc that professes to last many generations long (theoretically 1000 years), but I have written onto (cheap) CDs approaching 20 years old that still work fine, but they are stored in a metal box away from light and indoors (so no extreme temperatures), so make of that what you will, as to if you trust storage via this medium or not. Otherwise happy with the cost to quantify to storage ratio of these.

QUICK UPDATE December 2016 - I would give it 10 stars if I could - NERO DECODE and other software I slowly learned about with this is EXCELLENT - I love itORIGINAL REVIEW of 5 stars... from the time I made the purchase ..Recorded a copy for me and a copy for dad so total of 14 blu ray discs recorded and tested so far and they burned perfectly on the 2 laptops we are backing up - Gigabyte P34 and Gigabyte Q2442 ... using NERO 2014 Platinum software - looking forward to the price of 100GB BLU RAY disks dropping to a sensible price so I can carry less disks overall - these 25GB work GREAT - I have never had a disk fail in my life by VERBATIM so I only purchase this brand anyway....25GB are the SMALLEST Capacity BLU RAY but it still beats 3 dual layer DVDs for the same storage so now I can fit everything I own in a 25CD wallet instead of a 100 CD walltet and finally it will physically fit in my laptop bag - hence the reason for upgrading

Fantastic discs, make sure your writer is working correctly and you have the latest bios and drivers for it, plenty of people that complain about poor media simply haven't got their set-up right, if you value your data just buy a brand new blu ray writer when you buy the discs, my old drive had hardly been used but was having problems so I bought a new pioneer drive on here with the discs.Use the latest version of Nero, it has something called discspan this lets you drag a massive folder over to the disc and it will automatically split the files on to the discs for you then all you have to do is put a new disc in, on 4 speed this takes approx 35 mins to burn and verify the discs, make sure you switch on verify data as this is important to know that the discs are being written correctly.I have burned 50 of these discs backing up my various digital camera and music files with no coasters.

Excellent value for this five disc pack of BD-RE's. Usual Verbatim quality. No issues with read or write or erase. Only thing I found with these particular discs, which unlike TDK BD-RE's, is that I have had to reformat the disc everytime the disc is erased, which although it doesn't take long, can be a little annoying. This doesn't happen at all with the TDK BD-RE's. However, this hasn't spoilt my opinion of these Verbatim discs, it is just a point to bear in mind. Another little point is the burn speed. The TDK seems to burn much quicker than these Verbatim's, even though both are rated as 2X speed, and displayed as such. Could it be down to disc composition, I wonder. Well, for the price,I really can't fault them, certainly much cheaper than the TDK versions. And a very impressive delivery schedule, even with Super Saver.

Original review 25th December 2009I bought a 5-pack of these only very recently, about two weeks ago. Therefore my comments are very preliminary, but I have had no problems with them so far, neither formatting, recording, nor playing back from them. They seem good value compared to the cost of the Panasonic equivalent.I have not yet erased nor re-recorded to any of the discs. This is not because I intend to use them for archiving, but because I have not finished watching the recordings I made.Update 9th January 2014:I am still using these discs, re-using each one approximately every month or two, I have not experienced any failures. I'm so pleased,I've bought one or two more packs of them which have joined the original lot for re-using.Highly recommended.

I have bought 75 of these disc's burned 64 so far. These disc's are ideal for long term storage of data i.e pic's, video's documents etc.Safer than the double layer 50GB or triple layer 100GB disc's for data storage as only the 1 layer to write to. I bought 5 Sony 100GB bd-re disc's last month and 1 has already failed it errors once it tries to write to the 2nd layer on the disc.Pro'sThese are HTL not the cheaper and less reliable LTH disc'sMuch better for storing data long term than hard drive's SSD's or LTH disc's i.e cd,dvd, and cheap LTH blu ray disc'sOut of the 64 disc's burned zero have failed.Con'sSlower to transfer data to than usb keys or hard drivesLimited to 22.5GB usable storage perdisc

I decided to try a five-pack purchase, which is much cheaper (per disc) than the single disc purchase. In reality, turned out much more expensive because only one of five discs recorded properly. I even tried to format the disc and record again a couple of times, with same unsatisfactory result. I went out and purchased a single Memorex disc, which recorded just fine. I will NEVER purchase this product again.I decided to purchase a new Sony BD player (good buy) and saved a Verbatim disc that did not play properly on the older Panasonic BD player. On the new Sony player, the Verbatim discs recorded perfectly. So I stand corrected! Five-star product; next time,I'll be more careful with my review!

Bought to archive some older operating system images which I was loathed to fully delete from my NAS drive. Discs are of good quality, currently used half so far with no burn errors and speed is as advertised (but could vary depending on your BD burner, check your specs before buying if burn speed is of importance). Works well with Topop slim line DVD-BD drive (Matshita BD-MLT UJ260AF internals) paired with iMac.Single disc used for video burning test and could be played back on several BD players (Sony, Panasonic, TDK).Would certainly purchase another pack should I require further archiving. Only four stars given as other brands and longevity of the media has not been tested.

Arrived promptly, well packed well, and no coasters yet! Ideal for backing up large amounts of data. Its always advisable to re-backup your data on fresh media after 6 -9 months, as all cd/dvd`s etc seem to degrade after about a year or so I`ve found.Long storage in light proof cases is not recommended because of this, as I nearly found out to my cost! Periodic short exposure to daylight seems to help prolong data retention.Maybe something to do with the recording layer(s).Slower recording rates (rather than full blast!) also help to record more reliably. It may well depend on brand quality too, and I`ve always found Verbatim stuff to be good, but be warned!

The usual high quality from Verbatim : These Verbatim Datalife Blank blu-ray discs are HTL - (High to Low) - discs. NOT the cheaper Low to High, which uses a yellow Dye. I have used 20 from this cake of 50 to author various HD video projects of my own - and all have burned without issue producing excellent results. I use a Pioneer internal Blu-Ray writer to author these discs and I must say, for me anyway, they make a perfect team.I can and do recommend these HTL Verbatim discs. I have been producing short and full length movies for around 5 years, and since the inception of the blank blu-ray - have never used any other brand other than Verbatim.

Further to the previous review, I was 'foolish' enough to buy some of these discs, and was rewarded with an absolute steal! I can't fault these discs; fast write speeds, and a good wide printable area. The reason there is no ID on the discs is to give you more room to print your labels without a great big Verbatim logo in the way! I've used 16 of these so far, not one 'coaster', every one has worked perfectly. Unlike the previous reviewer, I actually own this product, I'm not just going off guesswork, they're the real deal and well worth the price. I have to agree with one thing though, Verbatim are a top quality disc!
