Bought this game today, and I've been playing in non-stop for several hours now, but in the end I'd had enough and had to stop and come and write this review. I'll break it down into little sections for you...CONTROLSIt's not easy playing a game like this without a mouse, but the main functions are activated by the triggers and the black/white buttons. Moving between the various windows on the screens is always done by the red button. You always feel like you're in control of what's going on in the screen, so: 4/5GRAPHICSFor a game that's basically full of statistics, it's never easy to make it loook snazzy, but EA do their best: 4/5GAMEPLAY:This is where it starts to get tricky. You can opt for a straight text result, watching the match using the FIFA2004 game engine, or exporting the game and actually playing it in FIFA. I'll be honest, it was this that made me by the game, and my warning is DON'T FALL INTO THE SAME TRAP!There are horrendous loading times involved in this part of the game, even if you opt for a text result. If you choose to watch the game, you'll see the terrible AI of the players, whether you choose Chesterfield or Man United (and I tried both!). It was very difficult to finish a game with less than five yellow cards and five injuries, which soon decimates your squad. They make bizarre decisions, like being through on goal then turning and belting it out into the wing, or back-heeling in their own penalty area. The tackling may well come from Tekken or Soulcalibur, it's that brutal. Then I kept finding a glitch where a computer player would dribble the ball in a big circle, without moving his legs, and all you can do is yell at your players to tackle him.And heaven forbid you should choose to play the game in FIFA. Save the TCM game, swap disks to FIFA, start that up, load the Fusion game, discover that half the info you set up is wrong (I kept setting the formation and choosing players, only to find they'd be playing in a different position in the FIFA game). TCM gives you a completely false idea of a player's skill; I promoted two youth team players necause they looked fantastic in TCM, only to find in FIFA their skill rating was in the mid-teens. Gamplay: 0/5SOUNDGod-awful menu music. Why do EA persist with it? I don't know anyone who leaves the music on. Then there's the match commentary. John Motson - fair dos to him, nice chap and all that - and the thinking man's Paul Gascoigne, Ally McCoist. I know they're only working to a script, but it's so cheesy it's like a collision between two Edam container lorries. And why is it always wrong? I played a game where the opposition hit the bar twice and the ball rebounded into play, only for Motty to scream, 'It's gone over!' Umm, no it hasn't... 0/5SUMMARYWhen it comes down to it, the same criticism is levelled at TCM that has been levelled at all FIFA games since the first Megadrive effort, which is that they always seem to be programmed by people who have never watched/played football before. The sense of realism and immersion in a game is not there, ever. They always, but always go for style over substance.I'm a 33 year old game player who has played management games since Kevin Toms wrote in Spectrum Basic, and I've bought every version of Championship Manager. At least, I did until the last one, which seems to be sliding dangerously down the pan towards FIFA's level - particularly with their insistence that only NASA can play with more than one league selected, because only NASA has computers that meet the minimum spec. There was a gap in the market for TCM, to come and snaffle up disenfranchised CM players. But it looks like, for the first time, there isn't a single decent management sim on the market.Save your pennies, folks, don't buy this. I'm taking mine back tomorrow.

I bought this as something to keep me occupied whilst I wait for my computer to be upgraded and until I can get Championship Manager 4. I'd read a few decent reviews and thought it couldn't be as bad as a Premier Manager game I had years ago. It's worse. The game prides itself on the amount of stats that it has, but players don't have a score to show what level they are at, there is just a weedy little bar to show if they are good enough to be in your team. Disregarding this as a minor annoyance, I went straight into a friendly against Rotheram with my beloved Arsenal team. Within the first ten minutes I had two players sent off, with the other team having one player being dismissed, one player of mine being injured and I was down 3-0 by half time, purely based on the fact that whenever I used the manager shout option to tell my player to shoot he simply rounded the keeper and gave the ball away.Exiting the game the game added up the various stats etc, and decided I won 7-1, when I was in fact 3-0 down. Not a good start, and neither does it get any better. I didn't bother with the football fusion option, because there is a vastly superior football game out, Pro Evolution Soccer 3.There is nothing about this game that is worth it for. A confusing interface, PSONE match graphics, etc, I could go on, but I wont. Abysmal.

The last management game i bought was FA Premier League Manager 2002 for the PC about a year ago which was also by EA Sports.I expected this to be just as good. How wrong i was.Apart from the statistics which are more than you can shake a stick at,the 3D match graphics are PS1 standard thats not to say i read 3 chapters of war and peace whilst waiting for it to load.I played as Leeds United and we had a game against Liverpool. Both teams had an all white kit!!!I had 3 players sent off (actually i did most games) my strikers had open goals but just ran round the keeper and decided to boot it to the halfway line. That wasnt a one off it happened all season.I think i had 87 red cards that season.Thecommentary is strange, for example my last game of the season i was in 12th place and motson said "welcome to ea sports and the first day of a new season" and "the result doesnt matter cos they are the league champions anyway".I could go on and on about the faults this game has but im not gonna waste my time on it anymore im taking this down and trading it in for a game worthy of the xbox logo.Despite this shockingly bad game i dont regret swapping my PS2 for an xbox.Do not buy this game you have been warned! XBOX RULES!!!

Total Club Manager is a good manager game but lacks the passion and skill of Championship Manager although it is fun and quite easy to pick up and play.It isn't very challenging and the 3d matches can get annoying as players always make tackles from behind and get booked an awful lot. On the plus side there are a vast array of options that will keep you occupied for hours working out how to keep your players happy to Expanding your clubs facilities . This game is definitely worth a rental otherwise play on a mates version before buying.

***I bought this for the youngster but paid under a tenner when it was on offer on Amazon earlier this year and it is not that good. There are far better football games out there. I am not too sure it was worth the tenner I paid for it - it certainly wasn't worth much more.***
