I waited a long-time for a Tomb Raider game to appear on the PS2. And after so many months of waiting, and suffering delay after delay, Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness came out in mid-2003.And it was not what everyone expected. I realise and accept that I'm one of the minority of people here, but I actually did enjoy The Angel of Darkness. And yes, I CAN understand why the majority loathed it. The control system was awkward, it was littered with bugs, certain challenges were frustrating and the plot had a few holes in it.Despite these faults, I nonetheless played The Angel of Darkness, completed it and ended up being satisfied. But there's no way I can deny the obvious. It was the worst Tomb Raider game by far, it wasn't well received by the general public and publishers Eidos did the right thing by stripping original developers Core Design of the licence to produce more Tomb Raider games. Instead choosing to hand the reigns over to Crystal Dynamics. So three years after Angel of Darkness, Lara Croft is back again in Tomb Raider: Legend. And the plot here is Lara once again trying to uncover an artefact of great power before it falls into the wrong hands. But as you progress through the game, the plot evolves in such captivating fashion. Lara's childhood is explored along the way, and she also encounters faces from her past long-thought dead. The result is a story that's easy to follow, but with such depth to it, and thus plenty of entertainment.Putting it simply, Legend is so much superior to Angel of Darkness in every single way. And I'll start with the presentation, which is key here. Lara's all-black attire has been ditched and she's no longer the cold, dark, vindictive Tomb Raider she was in the previous game. Here, she's much more loveable, kind-hearted, well-mannered, approachable and fun to be with. Her sex appeal (which was somewhat exaggerated in AOD) has been toned down, and this, coupled with her change of attire and attitude, makes Lara a lot more mature, sociable and strong-willed. And more believable as a heroine as a result. The graphics in the game are absolutely beautiful. The graphics in Angel of Darkness were quite blocky and patchy. In Legend, they are so detailed, clean and crisp, and you can tell Crystal Dynamics have PROPERLY utilised the PS2's hardware to produce the visuals. From the cities, to the mountains, jungles, tombs, snowy Soviet bases etc. And the characters themselves. Everything, is truly fab.The sound cannot be faulted, either. The soundtrack and music score really gives the game even more life. It's all at cinematic level, especially during the cut-scenes, making it feel like a true film epic. And the voice-acting is spot-on. Keely Hawes gives Lara the perfect voice, full of strength, maturity, love and elegance. All of which reinforce the leading lady's role as star of the game. And of course, Kath Soucie, Rino Romano and the other cast members flatter the characters they play. It's all so right.Now...as for the gameplay...it is totally playable, responsive and fun. Lara moves perfectly, she has so many gadgets and weapons that work as they're supposed to work, you DON'T have to do so many tasks to pull off certain moves (unlike AOD) and they're actual save points here that are much effective and helpful than an awkward and unreliable save option where you can save your progress at any time (Like in AOD where you can save at a moment when you can only die, and have no choice but to start all over again). The level design is equally brilliant. The challenges you have to solve throughout the game are MUCH easier to solve this time around, thanks to the improved control system. Yes, they were times I got stuck, but unlike AOD, I never ONCE got frustrated with Legend. Playing it was totally enjoyable and fun. And there are some great bike riding moments throughout the game, tearing through cities, deserts and mountains in special chase sections. And there are automated sequences where you have to press the correct buttons at the right time to avoid a nasty fate. You also have the option to explore Croft Manor whenever you feel like it. This is a separate level from the main game, where you can explore all its secrets and unlock lots of great extras, such as character bios, games designs, videos, costumes and much more.Anything to criticise? Only that it took me a few days to complete the game. But that's only a little thing, really. There is so much replay value here, unlike the Angel of Darkness. And even though I still enjoyed playing the previous Tomb Raider game and will play it again, this is by far the greater of the two and it's easy to see why right from the word `go`.Legend is the PS2 Tomb Raider game that Angel of Darkness SHOULD have been and much more. It is so refreshing to play and enjoy. Lara Croft is back and she has NEVER been this healthy before. And we're all happy. Thank you, Crystal Dynamics.

After playing Angel of darkness for the pc, i was put right off Tomb Raider and bitterly disapointed!! it wasnt until recently that i even knew they had remade TR and had already 3 new installments, Legend, Anniversary {best one in my opinion) and underworld, not to mention a film starring the new lara croft Alison Carroll, coming out next year, and TR underworld got remade from Alisons body and new moves. A very fun game for the xbox, but for ps2, utterly devistating graphics (unplayable graphics really) but thats my opinion, i can play TR 1-4 no bother but TR underworld for ps2 really bugged me :SLegend is a fun, sexy and modern gameplay, with bikes, cinematic scenes of her in a dress being all Lara like and then pulling out her guns from under her dress (reminds me of Angelina in Mr & Mrs smith), going back to her teens it shows a sad cinematic film of how she left her friend behind in a tomb to die, and this game really does have a good storyline to it, a real good look into who she is, and how she became lara croft. It reminds me of TR 2 because of the story and character strength.Anniversary, the storyline is no way connected to the previous stories or plot, but is just a brand new, singular game remade purely of TR 1-2 great graphics, jaw dropping jungle, great animated T-Rex's and extremely complex levels which will keep you busy and having a blast for hours, she doesnt come up with any cocky comentary in this game but as a puzzle solving game this is great fun, very imaginitive levels, not soo easy but not too hard either, you can choose to play each level in time trial, or in different costumes, change the mode from easy to hard, certain levels completed by time trials rewards you in different ways, either by guns which kill anything in one shot, which will help you out completing other time trials, unlocks outfits, you can be devil lara, original lara from TR 1, Outfits from TR1-3, Gold Lara, there are lots of hard to reach artifacts and they unlock cool stuff too. Always an objective to complete even after completing the game. The manor for anniversary is spectacular, very frustrating which is exactly what you want in a TR game, i love the whole process you need to go through to complete the manor, the only thing i miss is the free roaming, locking the butler in the fridge, the maze, and asualt course in the garden, the secret compartments in the loft which used to open a timed door downstairs which brought you to a secret rewards room, or the room where you swim through the water to get the key for the quad. i wish theyd remake this bit so we can play that in better quality. but either way, anniversary manor is great, and well worth the money, my favourite. (apart from TR 1-4 manor)Underworld is fantastic in its scenery, beautiful, id recommend this game for Xbox, as fun as anniversary, best graphics quality a TR has seen yet! the new moves really are very fun, she climbs walls like a little chimp, and can wall jump, everything!! very flexible and yet still feels like Lara Croft. alot more agile! The sad thing is, there is no manor, the manor has been burnt down and theres some annoying bits trying to exit the burning manor, as well as some annoying scenes on the boat after the Atlantis level, but once you've cleared all this, the levels are fantastic, amazing in graphics and as lara is much freer in her moves, it makes you feel like your just flying through the jungle.A great buy, 5 stars for Underworld, and 5 stars for TR Anniversary, and sorry TR Legend, you probably would have got a 4-5 star rating if i hadnt have played on Anniversary and Underworld, but as i have, I think 3-4, but a good 4 stars in an accurate score :) still worth buying.Happy gaming TR fans

In my view, this was one of the best games in the series.I am going to try and give you info on the game.Strong parts:The graphics are really improved.Lara looks more real and the scenery is more 3D.On the whole the controls are easier to use,E.G.unlike the other games there is no grip button,it is now automatic.Weak points:There could be more levels and some suits are not usable in levels.I hope you found this helpful.

I bought the Angel of Darkness, this put me off the 'franchise' that is Tomb raider for quite sometime, I was presuaded by the reviews on Amazon to give Legend a go and it greatly restored my faith, it was like the old days of the originals, exciting/frustrating but ultimately enjoyable, only criticism is that it could have been longer and some of the cinematics which you were not able to turn off but a good game 4/5
