Ah, Rise of the Tomb Raider when I first saw it I knew I had to have it... to bad I later found out it came out the same day as Fallout 4. I bought it a few weeks later and felt bad for not also being able to pick it up on the same day as F4. I will say it is a must own if you liked the reboot or if you enjoy third person action games in general. I played Tomb Raider Legend and Tomb Raider Underworld, enjoyed them well enough. Then the reboot came and I loved that game, bought it on 360 and upgraded version for Xbox One.So naturally after all the trailers I knew I was getting this game. The first thing about this game is it is GORGEOUS, all of it, everything. From Lara's hair,to the facial detail and everything in between. The snow effects when you are walking through deep snow was also cool to see. The sound and voice acting is also top notch, especially Lara's.Lara evolving as a character was a big part of the first game and she continues that evolution. If you played the first game you would know that she went from being scared and doubting of her abilities to strong and confident, in this game there are no back steps. Lara is a predator, a badass if you will. From her comments in combat to the way she moves and her abilities to kill, you are a predator stalking prey. You see lush forest area, underground catacombs and frozen tundra, all presented in fairly large areas to explore and find treasure and tombs. The Tombs in this game are much more interesting and more fun to beat. I also feel that the back story on this game is very deeply seeded and has a lot of interesting history and mysticism to it which I enjoyed greatly. Most of the problems I had with the game were minor, mostly preference issues. The hunting and gathering threw me off a bit at first, I wasn't expecting to have to gather and hunt for supplies, it took me a few hours to really get used to this, but after awhile I enjoyed it. Another thing I found I didn't like over the course of the game was that there were times you were kinda just dumped into an arena battle and pushed into a corner to fight off several waves of enemies. These moments take away some of the organic feel to the combat system and often break down to you rolling around dodge from cover to cover sloppily. A few small complaints are I felt that some of the tools, a grappling hook you use to swing over gaps you could not jump and the combat knife, came a bit to late in the game. A big one is there is no new game plus, it frustrated me in the first game and irritated me in the second game. You can use expedition mode to replay missions with your update equipment, but I personally didn't bother with it. Also thought the climbing system was fine in 'Tomb Raider', I was hoping it would look a bit smoother. That all being said for the majority of your combat it excellent and brutal. You have a lot more choices when it comes to guns and bows, each shooting differently and having distinct designs. You can also dual wield your axes, which makes melee a lot more practical in this game. As for selection, Lara has a plethora of clothing you can acquire and make. I love costumes in games so that was nice to see. The climbing and exploring are also tons of fun and can be pretty edge of your seat moments. There are also challenges to do and side quests in two of the biggest areas. All in all, not rushing the story and really doing to tombs and side quests it took me around 35 hours or so to beat the game and I started a replay immediately after that. The Tombs in this game are also much more impressive than in the reboot. Though there were tombs in the first, this game has a lot of them and are vary greatly in appearance and objective. All of them are fun and interesting to beat and you have to go out of your way to find most of them. This was a very pleasant upgrade to the game as well.Verdict, I really enjoyed it this game, it's a must own for anyone who has an Xbox One and loves third person action adventure and shooting. It has a lot to offer and shows off what this console generation is really capable of. Bonus enjoyment, you can rub it in any of your friends faces who only own a PS4. Sure they're going to get it sometime at the end of this year, but you'll have beaten it and enjoyed it long before them.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is a one year timed exclusivesThere is a 360 port nobody should buy it though the game wasn't developed for old hardwareI understand gamers still loving there 360 but,Rise of the Tomb Raider is for next gen hardwareThis is my Halo 5 been looking forward to this title for a whileyou'll need 20.7 GB of hard drive space plus the backward 360 compatibility this week now is the time to get a 2-3 TB external hard driveAfter having some time to put into this game it's safe to say this is the game of the yearThere is nothing like this across any platform i've only put 4hrs. into the game I'm 16% complete so it's epic in size and scaleGraphics: close to flawless this is truenext gen this is the Best looking game I've played since i got the consoleI'd go as far to say it's the best true next gen title in the 8th generation of consoles to dateIt's stunning and beautiful all around the detail is ultra hqLara Croft and her world looks like art in motion! Everything is aliveThe Controls are perfect and streamlined for the "newer" xone controllerIf you played the previous game you'll feel at home it's easy to pick up and playThe Gameplay: is cranked up to 11 Crystal Dynamics mimicked other games such as Far Cry 3 (The hunting and crafting element is bigger but, will take a little to get use to) also elements of the original Assassins Creed are here too Lara can now climb and do jumping like in A.C. but, it's more realistic some jumps you think i'm not gonna make you barley connect then have to tap X to hold on and not fall then climb up! The gameplay once again is tight and everything works extremely well...you can play the game run and gun or stealth I've done mostly stealth cause i'm so early on into the storyI'm not a massive fan of stealth games but, playing off this way is really enjoyable and funThe boss battle with the bear might sound weak it's crazy mostly due to the way everything is structured it all feels organic and realthe animation and sound helps too! The only real drag is hunting and killing animals to survive! I know it's a game but, the way the deer fall to the ground after you take one down is realistic and jarring! I don't get-off on killing animals in real life or in games.......Even killing the bear is really dark and a little sadAudio: AAA+++ the score fits everything happening all the sounds are crispCamilla Luddington lends both her likeness and voice to Lara Croft she is phenomenalShe will forever be known as Lara Croft she was born to be this character! Her v/o work is award wining good! she sells every word she saysCharles Halford v/o as Konstantin (works so far so good he has a strong voice and it fits the character the irony his name is Konstantin in this game but, he co-stared in NBC's Constantine!the DTS 5.1 audio don't hurt either (Consumer Tip anyone who don't have a proper Home Theater surround sound system you're missing out you must have a HQ home sound system to get the most out of games like this)If you have a XBOne gets this title I'm sure it will be amazing and much like the Tomb Raider re-boot it'll blow your socks offIf it has any score less then 4 Stars then they are just teenage gamers marks that have bought into the "whole" made-up console warGaming trolls are not helping gaming but, what do i know i have a full time job and been playing consoles since the Atari 2600 up until nowNo matter where this title ends up in a year it'll be a must have on every platform it's onhere's my Xbox gamer tag Duckman 1979 (this is proof my point of view holds water) Must own 10/10P.S. Is one game worth buying a new/2nd next gen console no but, the XBoxOne has Sunset Overdrive, Killer Instinct, Halo 5, Fable Legends (which is gonna be free to play) along with other massive exclusive IP's coming next yearRise of the Tomb Raider is amazing and a must play for all gamer's for those who wanna be juvenile fanboys and wait a year! Good luck a year is a long time just to be a fanboy shill to a console war being pushed by the gaming media and gaming console makersall these gamers trolling need to grow up already I hope they are all teenagers still in high schoolIf any of these are grown men they are really pathetic and need real help or a real job!

I gave this 5 stars because it really is a great game, and 4 stars would be more of just a "good" game in my opinion. I want people to know that it is indeed great. However, my real score would be a 9/10Let's start with the graphics. WOW. AND I MEAN WOW. They are absolutely incredible. The amount of detail in the environments are insane. Sometimes it seriously looks real, and I'm not joking. There's a part of the game where it's dark and you're scaling a wall while a snowstorm is beginning. Lara is starting to hold her arms and shiver, and the light from her glowstick bounces off the snow coming in sideways, it was amazing.I find myself continuously exploring at a turtle's pace because I don't want to miss ANY of the numerous exquisite outdoor decor. The platforming is great and the animations flow smoothly. There's minor hiccups here and there, like the occasionally stutter on a little ledge, but overall there's not much to complain aboutThe gunplay is good, however underwhelming. There's nothing that really jumps about this part of the game. It's not bad by any means, but if you played the last one you've played this one as far as that goes. There's one big step up in this game...which I feel ultimately contributes to the one major flaw. There has been a major attempt to enhance the exploration aspect of this game from the last one. Wandering the environments and taking on the hidden tombs is a real treat. Some of them are slightly challenging to figure out, but just the thrill of finding new areas is what really makes it fun (and again I can't stress enough the graphics). Unfortunately, I feel as if the emphasis on that aspect made them completely fudge the main story. It's boring...and recycled...and the cutscenes are frequent and long.I have one other minor complaint, but it doesn't affect the game. They have officially done away with the "sexy" Lara theme. Every outfit is unrevealing, and her breasts have obviously been reduced in size. Now again this has nothing to do with the game and many of you may roll your eyes, but it just kind of takes away from the experience for myself...a man lol. Now mind you I'm married, to a beautiful woman, so this isn't how I get my sexual thrills...it's just kind of one of those "dammit" moments lol. Anyway, just thought I'd throw that in there....kind of disappointing.Overall it's a great game, and a step up from the also amazing initial reboot.Highly recommended for any adventure game fan.Pros: GRAPHICS, exploration, platforming, solid/smooth controlsCons: Story very mundane, cutscenes are overwhelming, no more sexy Lara :(

The new Tomb Raider series had resparked the slowly dying light of all the past reboots that have not been sucessful. Being a big fan of the original series, I cas say that this game, as long as the former title a few years back has done a great job sucking you back into the world of Archeology. The game boasts fantastic graphics that really makes explorering a treat. Whether you are zip lining across a Siberian tundra or slowly exploring a dark cave, it really makes for exciting gameplay as you never know what will happen next or what will pop out at you.The story is good, but I personally liked the first title's better. The game added a few new features such as supplies you can gather (wood, cloth, feathers, mushrooms etc) and allows you'd to craft bullets and upgrade equipment. Some people found the survival insticts button made the game too easy as it simply highlighted all interactive items as well as way points. But you can turn that feature off all together of you choose to or just refrain from pressing that button. As a completionist I found the latter more difficult so I decided to turn it off all together.Gameplay is what you'd expect from the last game. Lots of running, explorering with twists and turns. It plays very similarly to the Uncharted series. I have not tried the multilayer portion of the game so I cannot review on that unfortunately. The one knock I give to this game, which is what caused me to give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that my may file got corrupted and I could not load any of my games. I'm playing on survivalist difficulty and found it very frustrating that I had to reload from hours prior via backup save files. The other option to fix this was to unistall and reinstall off of the disc without the updates. But this only worked once for me. This glitch seems to only occur in certain parts of the game. The other con I would give this game is the marketplace add-ons that they now offer which is a set of card packs that will change the gameplay depending which card you unlock. These cards don't bring much value to the game and they cost real money or in game credits that you earn by completing achievements. It's not really a baf thing but I don't think many people will utilize this feature and may ignore it all together.Overall, I enjoy coming home from work and progressing through the story. I take time to look around and find treasures (without survivor instict). The game runs very smoothly and I am sure you will get sucked in as I did.

Amazing campaign - great visuals and interesting and compelling story, makes you actually want to watch all cinematics. A lot more complicated with the skill trees than you expect, lots of customization. Bonus caves for special skills are really awesome and for once I have been inclined to explore the entire game not just blow through main quests 10/10I am about 8 hours in and still loving it. The progression is perfect, I just learned some new skills (got combat knife, and the explosive arrow) and normally Im used to having the entire tool-kit available after a few hours in. I am still mowing through the content but there is so much to do with side quests and all the hidden caches/coins etc!!!And I still have a few caves that I had to skip because I didnt have the right tools to get past the door earlier in the campaign. These are intended to be returned to later, hopefully i dont miss any! I didnt use it much initially but the map is very useful and well done. Also later in the game the quick-movement/teleportation via the campfires becomes much more appreciated!!! Beat a challenge cave then just port out back to where you were without the tedious climb out.I thought it would get old but in all honesty I think one of the greatest parts of this game is just the movement. I really enjoy just climbing up things, using the hooks, zip-lines, etc. It's great physics and simple unadulterated fun! I really hope the designers of this game stick together for another, this is one of the best if not the best title on xbox one. #1 without doubt in its category but it even gives longstanding champions like destiny a run for its money. I purchased halo 5, the new COD, and fallout 4 with this game and I have been stuck with Lara almost the entire time. (will focus on fallout 4 after completion)Anyways, very great game and I recommend it to anyone who loves captivating dungeon crawling solo campaign type games.

I love these new Tomb Raider games.. Bearing witness and getting to experience the ups and downs of Lara Crofts origins story off her becoming the Tomb Raider...There is plenty to do in this game and it comes with a amazing storyline.. At first it will same like the same old, it can be felt like a slow starter, but stick to it.. And as you progress through the game and explore aswell as you take a break from the Main Storyline missions you will fall in love with this game. You will have to anyway to upgrade Lara's Skills and upgrade her weapons and obviously you gain special abilities when you complete hidden tombs...You will need all the above if you are to complete the game..Battling yourenemies is fun as you use the environment and weapon crafting to take down your enemies....And at times you will find yourself taking a stealthier approach. You will certainly have to alternate between the all guns blazing and duck and cover and the stealthier approach. If you really enjoyed the 1st Reboot in this gaming series Tom Raider (2013) then you will really love Rise of the Tomb Raider 25th Anniversary Edition. Which is a sequel.. Many people might think thatRise of the Tomb Raider 25th Editon is a Special Edition of Tomb Raider (2013) with just all the DLC added to it. I can assure you that this a SEQUEL and the 2nd Installment of the Tomb Raider Reboot Origins story Trilogy.I myself thought it was Tomb Raider 2013 with the added DLC included.. Then it became available through my PS Plus subscription for free... and found out it was a sequel. Then. my Membership ran out so I bought the disc copy, which appears not to be easy to find..Nathan Drake eat your Heart out and move aside Lara Croft is back on the scene and has retaken her throne

Rise of the Tomb Raider truly is a good game but it is ultimately an iterative improvement upon the 2013 reboot more so than a giant leap ahead of the original title.2013's Tomb Raider grounded Lara Croft in realism and brought the IP back to gaming relevancy after the over-saturation and the ridiculousness that the original series devolved into during the late 90s and early 2000s compelled Crystal Dynamics to start from scratch. And while Tomb Raider's sister series, Uncharted, amped up the series in the first sequel title, Rise of the Tomb Raider refines what the 2013 game did well or didn't delve to deeply into.Namely, tombs, Lara's raiding namesake.Rise of the Tomb Raider builds upon what the small touches of tomb raiding that were present in the reboot and expands them into fun and compelling reasons to trek off the beaten path to an uncharted location. Each one of these tombs offers perplexing, but not overly difficult, puzzles offering status buffs to Croft at the completion of each tomb. Other changes include more locations to visit than the original title and a more centralized villain figure and entity.Gunplay is largely unchanged, which is a good thing, save for on the fly ammo creation. Graphics are obviously better, but not a huge leap over the TR: Definitive Edition release of the original title. Everything's just a bit more dense and detailed, which is on par with 8th generation game releases in general. (Save for the amazing looking Metal Gear Solid 5.) I tend to wonder how much of this is due to 7th generation ports still being developed for these titles, but I digress.Regardless, Rise of the Tomb Raider is another fantastic entry in the reboot series and I highly recommend this as a purchase.

It’s been many years since I last played a Tomb Raider game and I’d forgotten how much of an adventure they could be. The latest incarnation of Lara Croft is an altogether more plausible character, and the re-telling of her story has given opportunity to clean the slate and build something new. Rise of the Tomb Raider starts with several cut sequences to set the scene and set you on your way. The game gives plenty of opportunity to quickly learn how to control Lara’s abilities, and opportunity to use them. There’s an emphasis on collecting resources and plenty of collectable items along the way to keep your eyes open. As an aside,it does always surprise me that considering she’s basically an archaeologist Lara is very quick to smash her way through the environment and ancient artefacts. The story is immersive, if a little far-fetched at times, but tramps along at a decent pace. There’s a great deal to see and plenty of combat situations and/or reason to sneak around. The game presents you with several fiendish puzzles to work out, and is all done so in a beautifully detailed environment. There’s definitely a Nathan Drake inspiration through the game, not that that is necessarily a bad thing. It’ll take you a couple of weeks of solid playing to get all the way though the game and find all of the collectibles, but it’s enjoyable the whole way through. It’s perhaps just a notch down from the level of God of War or Horizon Zero Dawn, but is still a highly recommended game.

After a very long wait us PS4 people finally get our grubby hands on Lara Croft's latest. The annoyance of Microsoft's underhanded deal having calmed, we can enjoy the full Rise of the Tomb Raider experience. That's right, all the DLC is included on the disc, perhaps as an apology to those who were fans of Tomb Raider all through the 90's (me). And the game? Yeah, its a beaut! I'm so glad Tomb Raider has finally come home, as the much hyped Uncharted 4 did nothing for me (too much a hand-held adventure movie game). This game improves on the fantastic original in about every way. A better story, better mechanics, more open, better missions, better characters etc etc. It has everything I'd hoped it would. The DLC is also very well created, slotting into the open game world nicely. There's a much better feeling of ancient tombs in this game (than the 'puzzle rooms' of the last one) and its a game that encourages you to have a second playthrough once you've finished the main story. The mechanics are smooth and the graphics are amazing. So perhaps we all had to go the long way round to finally get to play this game. And maybe there's a touch of bitterness about that too. But in the end, for long time fans of Tomb Raider, its just great to have it back on the Playstation, where it belongs.

I first bought this game for PC, but only a couple of minutes into starting it I KNEW that I'd made an error. Yes the graphics are superior on the PC version (this is provable in side by side comparisons even with the PS4 Pro version) but every fibre of my senses told me the best control method was a PS4 controller for a game with this type of mechanics - and my god I was right. One of the timed jumps right near the start of the game is incredibly frustrating - it took me at least 25 attempts to get past it. But aside from that this game is beautiful to look at and the transitions between inside and outside are particularly impressive - with lighting effects used with incredible technical skill.Collision detection is also fairly impressive so far. This edition of course contains all the various skins etc they had as DLC although to be honest, DLC these days amounting to uninteresting things like skins for Lara, clothes and skins for guns, it's not going to add much to the game. There may be additional multiplayer stuff but I'm not interested in multiplayer or co-op. But luckily for single players like me there's a great big adventure to be had here.Read full review...

This is an awesome game. I'm only 50% complete, but the story is entertaining so far, voice acting on par with last installment, but I feel we could use another fun character. Somehow I'm not loving to hate Constantine as a villain, though I feel for him and can sympathize with his motives. It's still a great blend of stealth and shooting. I recommend playing on the highest difficulty to get a fair challenge from the A.I. There are a couple times where the fire-fights can be brutal and the enemies swarm, but it'll be well worth it.The tombs so far had decent level design but most had relatively simple puzzles. The in-game puzzles have been more engaging than the tombs. Bare in mind,I haven't completed the game, so I'm hoping for more dangerous encounters. Additionally, I think if developers gave Lara some more versatility in close combat, it would improve the overall experience. Ever since the first game, i was frustrated by only being able to swing pickaxe in a wild manner. Maybe some combo moves with it would help. All in all, great game and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys something other than pure shooting.

I started with the previous Tomb Raider definitive edition and loved the look and feel of the game. The story was well crafted and gameplay on par as well.As I booted up Rise of the Tomb Raider, I felt very familiarity placed back into the world of Tomb Raider from the previous installment. This time however, Lara Croft is much more battle hardened which is a great transition as she goes from timid to fearless over the course of 2 games. Rise is still compelling with its story, offers great environments to explore, and more puzzles to solve. The gameplay is not enhanced from the previous game, however it still feels good, but it does not make it the highlight of the game.I played action adventure games as a kid all the time, now in my 20's I struggle to find an adventure game that keeps me playing. Tomb Raider has brought my childhood nostalgia to the forefront and I loved every moment of the game. Please get this if you want to play a well crafted, story and environment driven game. You will be pleased!

I have PS4 and XBOX One. In my opinion this is the best current generation console game available as of Holiday 2015.I love the Uncharted series and I am looking forward to playing the upcoming release for PS4. Let's be honest, Uncharted is total rip off of Tomb Raider which is why I liked it so much in the first place. The Tomb Raider series started off great and fell off in quality until the recent relaunch a couple years ago. For a while Uncharted covered my adventure game fix. Uncharted 2 specifically was my favorite of the series and I think both the 2013 tomb raider and this sequel are on par with that game. I am just really happy that we have two high quality competing series in the adventure game genre.Rise of the Tomb Raider is a graphical showcase with some excellent puzzles and satisfying exploring and combat. If you like old school Tomb Raider games, the uncharted series, or are just sick of Call of Duty you will love this game.

I really enjoyed the Tomb Raider reboot, and I really enjoyed this sequel. The style and mechanics from the previous game have been carried over and improved. There are plenty of high-adrenaline moments, but there are also many quiet moments of just solving puzzles and hunting and crafting new gear. The reboot lacked those quiet moments, but they are a nice touch. I really enjoy the tombs - they are challenging enough to keep me entertained, but don't take so long as to get me frustrated or angry. The storyline and new enemy are interesting and entertaining enough. One thing I really liked in the reboot but was lacking in this game was Lara being fragile. In the reboot she would get severely injured frequently, but in this, she gets injured once by a bear and then heals about 5 seconds later. It made the game a little less gritty. Regardless of that one gripe, it is an excellent game. Graphics, sounds, gameplay, everything is excellent.

Fantastic game in every way. Purchased an Xbox One just to get this and I don't regret it at all. This game is easily worthy of being Game of the Year in my honest opinion. Lots of entertainment here and the story is even better than the one from the 2013 reboot. Was a tad bit sad to see multiplayer go as I was one of the few who actually enjoyed it but at the same time it paid off because they were able to focus more on the story and character interactions. The graphics are top notch. Truly a pretty looking game and it runs smoothly as well. Haven't run into any glitches what so ever (I play pretty recklessly). I also liked the addition of missions and the fact that enemies will continually respawn in areas previously explored.Which was something that was missing from the first game which made completing achievements and maxing out skills difficult. All and all, keep it up Crystal Dynamics! Fantastic game. Really...get it. NOW!
