The Lord Of The Rings: Battle For Middle Eart 2 is still the best RTS on Xbox 360 even after 4 years. Even after 4 years people still play this addictive game, the PC version has mods and other improvements to the game to keep you playing as does the first game and the game itself even without mods can keep you playing for months without getting board. This game is one of the games on Xbox 360 that you can keep playing and coming back to just like the Kingdom Under Fires on Xbox. The skirmish mode is great and basically in a way you forge your own story and can even have allies helping you, you can even make Isengard and Gondor join together.Skirmishes can even last for hours and are always enjoyable since the AI is great and at times feel realistic. The controls are great and very good for a console. The story missions are interesting and feature defending, attacking and capturing certain locations and every map features well known Middle Earth locations. The RTS elements are what you would expect for a medieval RTS game, have swordsmen flank archers and the archers will fall one by one. Catapults will destroy buildings fast and by having the catapults defended by other units, you will ensure fast victory. Other than that, there are some nice RPG elements which make the game even more interesting. Heroes in story mode will level up and continue leveling up so long as they gain EXP as do troops, sadly unlike the heroes, troops don't get carried over to the next mission, powers can be unlocked with skill points and the powers are dealt in a traditional RPG way via the skill tree so not every power can be purchased and in skirmish mode the RPG elements remain apart from after finishing a skirmish, heroes in a new skirmish will be lv 1 and you will have no powers. However there is no buying equipment for heroes like there is in Warhammer: Battle March (IMO the second best RTS on console which I recommend you get as well, however it has bad controls which take a while to learn) which allows you to upgrade your troops and keep them for the rest of the game as well, however the lite RPG elements in this game are still handled well and add a little more depth. Conclusion:A great RTS and the best RTS on console. It has great voice acting and good graphics (The water looks very realistic) and the powers look amazing and the sound effects are superb. One reviewer said this is the one RTS to rule them all, I say this RTS is still ruling them all. This game is also still ruling every Lord Of The Rings game, forget Conquest which was made by a failed company, this is the best LOTR game to date and can be enjoyed by RTS veterans and beginners alike.P.SI don't view comments. So questions shall not be answered by me.

I have played many RTS games in my time but always for the PC, dismissing all console RTS's especially after C&C Retaliation for the PS1. I bought this game on a whim, hearing that the control system had finally been mastered for a console. I was sceptical but they were correct. They have managed to pull it off it is by no means perfect a few more tweaks maybe but it has given a new skill to be mastered. The single player is great giving you quick and easy instructions on how to play using the new controls. The controls seemed complicated when reading through the manual but the first level gives a perfect tutorial on how to get started without ever slowing the gameplay down. All of the missions are enjoyable, short but still offering plenty of replay value. You can play through both the good missions and the evil, both of them giving completely different levels and it really gets you thinking, as RTS's should. The single player missions however seem like one big tutorial for you to take online and polish your skills and tactics. The gameplay is great, with intuitive controls that really do work with a console, and being a next gen game the graphics are excellent some of the best I have seen in a strategy game and have created all of the characters and soldiers from the movie perfectly. It is online however that this game really shines offering one of the finest Xbox Live experiences I have ever had. The graphics stay as good as the single player, which is odd for a lot of online games. It does take a few games to get into but once you have seen the speed of these games it will all become very natural. One downside to the multiplayer is lag, and when there are literally hundreds and sometimes thousands of troops all doing their own thing on screen you can see why, but after solid play you don't even notice it and almost feels as if that should be the actual speed of the game.Every game is different because everybody has there own strategy and this is why it is so enjoyable. You will always encounter new tactics and will have to find a new way of defeating them. You get to play as six armies which all have their own units, heroes and buildings and each giving their own personality almost to the game. There are also four multiplayer modes that are all very different and definitely all worth playing but I found Versus with four players most enjoyable, allowing tactics and teamwork.I would definitely recommend this game to any Xbox 360 owner but for die-hard RTS fans you may feel that it lacks the speed and accuracy of a mouse and keyboard.

i havent really played any good rts's for xbox but i then bought lotr:battle of middle earth 2. unlike many rts's on consoles such as the xbox this one had finally sorted out the selection links on the controller so its just a quick pull on the right trigger and a small tap on the a button.you can command many different factions and units.elves gondor knights and dwarves are the factions under the good side.and uroki orcs ad coasers of umber are the factions under the bad side.you can follow the bad or good campaign battleing your way through middle eart with hundreds of men at your command.like most other rts's you have gain many resources before you master a massive army.buildings come underresources, barracks, archery range, forge works, stables, blacksmith, tower, healing shrine, wall hub and castle.you can build as many of these buildings as you want but only if you have got enough resources.the graphics are pretty good for a rts and the amount of gameplay that comes with is good too.with the powers tab on your palentier you can summon creatures, beings or buildings. note you can take to the skies with some beings.seas can also be conquerd if you have a shipyard. you can build transporst, warships, beserkers and destroy ships in a shipyard.if a mission with buildings already placed on the map you can cpature them e.g watch towers and ship yards. this game is also xbox live enabled so you can take the fight to anyone around the globe. it also comes with the ability to download maps, pictures and themes obviously at a cost.if you havent got xbox live and dont want to follow the campaign the go to skirmish and set up a small game agaisnt the computer.you can choose the difficulty of all 4 teams and what faction they are and what side their on e.g. all against all, 2 on 2 or 3 on 1.overall this game is great but can become tedious!!!!!!!!

This is a game that in many ways is similar to Command and Conquer or Caesar III on the PC.. its a strategy game where you build up your armies and fortresses and do battle against good or evil depending on your choice of army. you can play mission based levels or set up a skirmish altho i did find skirmishes a little frustrating as you are constantly attacked before you can build up your army, there is also online game play via xbox live where you can pit yourself against a friend.there are a couple of good tutorials that do help alot and i recommend using them as the control system does need a little bit of practise.this is mainly a point and click game, point here, build a barracks or some other building, create your army, point to the enrmy and watch your guys attack them, point to ememy buildings and send your troops to destroyI found this game to be fun, entertaining and the graphics altho not jaw dropping are pretty good and are good enough to do the job. the voice overs on the cut scenes do seem a little out of place but the biggest problem i found was moving your cursor around the playing area can lead to a jerkiness as the screen is scrolling altho it doesnt do this all the time. This is a good game, with good reply value as you can complete using the good army and then play again using the bad guys.there is a demo availible on xbox live

Before i got my 360, i was playing on BFME2 on my pc endlessly ( i reviewed the pc version as well). After i got my 360, i purchased BFME2 for it, i just wanted to compare the 360 to the pc version.yes, the 360 graphics are better and there is next to no lag but what the HELL have they done with war of the ring mode and create a hero. For me, create a hero made the pc version more fun to play, and the war of the ring mode kept me glued to the screen for hours. The story misssions are exactly the same as the pc version and you get all the same factions and units. But get this, in a shameful attempt to compensate for the loss of create a hero, EA have pre-created a roster of heroes, good and bad,and makes you unlock them one by one (which i'm not sure how to do) before you can use them in skirmish maps. Sorry to keep going on that really has put a major downer on this game for me. However, if the lag on your pc is to bad to enjoy he pc version properly, then get the 360 version: the graphics are great, the gameplay is flawless and the action is brill. But the controls are a bit fiddley at times. All in all, a great RTS for the 360 & the pc and i highly reccomend both of them.p.s, some reviewers have said that the game siezes up (runs really slowly) during gameplay, this is not the case with my copy.

I'm generally a fan of all things related to Lord of the Rings so I would naturally love this game. I find the strategic element of the game frustrating, but in a good way as it provided an adequate challenge for me. Having said that, my completion time for the game was about two weeks without spending hour after hour on it. There are a couple of things about the game that I found annoying; firstly the inability to use acquired skills on earlier levels, which admittedly would have made those levels easier but since I had already completed them where is the harm in being rewarded. Secondly, DLC content seemed to offer a few extra multiplayer levels but was lacking in the "Rise of the Witch King" add-on and the Create-A-Hero option, making me wonder if I should of gone for the PC version. Nevertheless, I enjoyed L.O.T.R:T.B.F.M.E. 2 a great deal and provides a suitable distraction from time to time. This game would definitely appeal to fans of both L.O.T.R. and fans of the Command & Conquer franchise.

This is one of the greatest RTS games available on console format, its up there with C&C and more recently Halo Wars. Unfortunately EA have now shut the online servers so there is no longer a multiplayer element which is a great shame as the online play was as much fun as the single player campaigns.the single player campaigns will keep you engrossed for long enough with both a Good campaign and an Evil Campaign and then if you really do miss the online battles there is single player skirmish, which in my opinion are never as much fun but will give you a real test of combat. This game deserves its 5* rating, graphic landscapes are amazing and you can choose between playing as one of many factions in Skirmish mode, each has its own charater armies to build, nothing better than sending in a cave troll to stomp on some Dwarves ;)If you like this then also try Halo Wars which I also found to be a very good RTS (with online play I might add)

At last, a decent RTS on a console, halleluja,The controller works really well once you get used to it.The gameplay is simple, and anyone who's ever played a RTS knows the concept, Build a fortress, barracks etc, train an army, unleash hell. Each faction has 8 campaigns, and to complete all 16 should take a competent gamer around 16-20 hours. Then there is online play, and Skirmish mode which adds to the longevity of the game. The soundtrack is simply stunning, and everything youve come to expect from LOTR films and games. The Graphics are pretty much the same as the PC version, in other words superb. All in all a must have for an RTS fan, one minor gripe, I know some of you old school gamers love the mouse,me too, and the Xbox 360 supports most USB mice, so why oh why doesnt anybody implement this in their games?

At last rts on 360 and in the lord of the rings world (bonus!),I have been waiting for this game for so long and can honestly say it was worth the wait.Gameplay is fantastic whether playing campaign, skirmish or the hugely addictive online mode nothing disapoints.Graphicly its good on a normal tv and great if you have HD (I don't but my mate has and it looks nice believe me!).Command and conquer fans will feel right at home with both building and battle system but even if you've never played this type of game before you will soon get used to the control system and gameplay.I would have liked a wider view of the battle screen but this is a minor problem and one that you soon get used to,good offline, great online so what are you waiting for go and buy it!!

Bought this game thinking it wouldn't be much good, and is my favorite game! Good tutorial teaches you the control system which is well thought out. Having good and bad campaigns adds to the longevity but it is LIVE which really makes this game exceptional. Online play is endless and I struggle to play other games due to friends inviting me to play.I have heard that there will be more maps and downloadable content coming as well which is good news.On the downside, I hear on the PC there is a create a hero mode and a couple of other features - but as I don't have it on the PC I don't miss it! I agree with the comment that seeing as the 360 is capable of having USB mouse why not - but on theother hand it allows for a level playing field.

As far as the control system goes, I was at first doubtful that a strategy could be great when played with a control pad, but this is simple and easy to get the hang of! The campaigns are really great, a lot of fun and leave a lot of scope for replay. The skirmish, however, really lets the game down. As has been mentioned in other reviews, the AI just sends endless waves of troops from the start of the game, leaving you with little time to build a base or an army. When arriving at your enemies base, you need no skill to destroy it as there is never any defensive buildings or strategy involved in it at all.All round, a good game, unsure if it is worth the current list price but well worth picking up second hand!

The title says it all!!! Full packed action and great storylines from both the evil and good forces. Also the maps are stunning! The great graphics combined with the unlimited barricades and armies to create just make this game one of the best ever!! Finally to top it all off, it includes the greatest of all maps such as minas tirith and helms deep, which make this game that ever so much moreperfect. I totally recommend this game for absolutely everyone who owns an xbox 360!!

in a word, awesome, i have had this game for over a year and still dont stop playing it, online is wicked and keeps you amused but even the skirmish is a challenge. the heros is an ace touch and can turn a tide of any war. ive taken on an army of 1000 units with 8 heros and ruined them all. immense game and would recommend it to any command and conquer fan and lord of the rings fan. at the price it is definite value for money.

The Lord of the Rings (Battle for Middle Earth II) game arrived on time and at a very reasonable price. The game was well packaged and was very quick to come. I adore the actual game itself plus the disk and case were almost new quality and there have been no problems with the game at all. I would say this is one of the best buys from Amazon I have done. Great buy I recommend this to everybody.

So far so good. I have been playing this game for a couple of hours and I am really having fun. Only thing is you may have to slow down the speed to get to grip better with the action.Gameplay is fluid and the single player missions are entertaining. I have not played the online yet so I will not comment on it.Overall I would definitely recommend this game.
