First thing you have to deal with when you're considering whether or not to buy this game is the price: Amazon's current listing is at £17.99 - the average SNES game on the Wii's Virtual Console download service sells for around £7's worth of Wii Points. Knowing that Super Mario All-Stars is (I hesitate to say 'merely') a SNES game, can you justify paying nearly three times that price for this disc and its bundled extras? If the answer is yes (or if you are unaware of the Virtual Console function on the Wii) and you want some classic Mario gameplay this Christmas, read on.Super Mario All-Stars is arguably the greatest game cart ever released. Contained thereon are graphically- and aurally- updated versions of Super Mario Bros.,Super Mario Bros. 2 (the weird onion-throwing one that everyone seems to hate, and brief research reveals wasn't really a Mario game at all), Super Mario Bros. 3 and The Lost Levels (the one that looks like the first one but from the very first level is considerably more difficult). All four games were originally released on the NES console between 1985 and 1988 and enjoyed massive success, and the All-Stars cart (which makes each look as though they were built for the SNES, basically feeling more like the incomparably perfect Super Mario World, available separately) too was a must-own for that latter console. This 25th Anniversary Edition changes nothing. All the aesthetic benefits of the All-Star versions are present and correct (as is the save system that made Lost Levels playthroughs so much less gruelling), but beyond the included booklet and CD, nothing in this set is new- the games' development has paused in 1993, and this plays just like it ever did (purists may moan about the change of physics in the first Mario game, but you'll get used to it by the first castle, and LIKE IT).Regardless of what must seem like griping above, I can wholly recommend this. For those of you buying it for the family to enjoy this Christmas, it's STILL a must-have game- it offers more gameplay hours than the average modern adventure game and the replay value is endless (I'm still playing my yellowed SNES copy these days, which is long due a retirement). The designs are imaginative and timeless and Koji's Kondo's themes, every single one of them, will be stuck in your head for years. Forget New Super Mario Bros. Wii, forget Mario Kart Wii, forget everything- this is THE family Mario game this Christmas. The CD included is a nice touch (though the die-hards amongst you will, like me, have hunted down the full soundtracks years ago) and the booklet too is a pleasant distraction, but the real gem is the disc, finally available. Sure, the price is more than it would have cost to download through the Wii, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth every single penny.

Super Mario All-Stars on the SNES was the first game I ever played, I was 3 at the time so when I heard that it was being re-released for the Wii I is was ecstatic. In the box you get the Super Mario All-Stars, a book with notes from Shigeru Miyamoto showing his concepts for each game in the Mario series, with a short paragraph giving his thoughts whilst designing the game and an audio CD with has one track taken from every Super Mario game so far.The game itself is a collection of four games; Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros: the lost levels (originally never released outside of Japan), Super Mario Bros 2 and Super Mario Bros 3.Each game was originally released only on the NES but was bundled together and re-released for the SNES in 1993 with upgraded graphics and sound. The gameplay has been untouched, leaving it just as good as it was back in the late 80's.This is still a great game for anyone who enjoys old school platformers, anyone who missed them when they originally came out or someone who, like me, played them before and wants to visit them again. The only negative I have is that as a celebration of 25 years there isn't a lot in the box, I would have liked a bit more. Perhaps the CD could have been 2 disks? The Legend of Zelda anniversary was met with an incredible hardback book which was well over 200 pages, the book in this box has around 50 and is rather small. But if all you wanted was to play Super Mario All-Stars then the extras are a great bonus.

When I got this game late in 2010 it cost about £30 and was very good value. You get the game itself plus a 'Super Mario History' extra book and CD, these contain some good pictures and themes from each of the major Mario platformers since 1985 respectively. However now this game costs £54 here, even more on other sites, which is a pity as it's a great game.Sure, it's a straight port with no extra features (but then again nobody criticises the Virtual Console for that), but it is still a really fun game, with the four original Mario NES games (SMB, SMB 2, SMB 3 and the Japanese SMB 2, deemed 'too hard' for Western gamers, which is here called SMB: The Lost Levels). Each game has had its controls optimised for the Wii Remote, though you can use Classic Controller or a GameCube controller if you prefer. The games themselves have stood the test of time gameplay-wise - they are still really fun, and are much more challenging than their DS and Wii counterparts, which seem to have been appealing to much to the kiddie market, particularly the former. Obviously the graphics are hardly HD quality but then the pixelated polygons of these games adds to their charm. This is a brilliant game for the Wii, and I thoroughly recommend it for you nostalgiaphiles out there. However its cost now in 2011 lets it down majorly - you might want to check out (whisper it) eBay for a cheaper copy.

First off, the prices for this on here if just stupid. I payed £19 maybe less for mine pre-owned from game, yes its not brand new but it works all the same! I've loved re-playing my old fav's from the mario series and would suggest any mario fan of all ages to give it a go. However, i've read some of the other reviews and I have to agree, they could of done so much more by adding some more of the oldies as there are so many good ones to choose from. I'd love to see a re release of all the old marios, but i guess at least this was a start! The only problem I have is if you die, you start at the begining of the world again (if you haven't beat the midway castle) or if you run out lives. Its also more tricky than I remember but its still very enjoyable

This may be a ROM of the old Super Nintendo game of the same name, but it's still a top notch title to have for your Wii, simply because the Mario games included are THAT good. This title includes 16-bit renditions of the classic NES titles Super Mario Bros (the game that propelled the plumber into stardom), Super Mario Bros 2 (a unique and actually pretty good game), Super Mario Bros 3 (arguably one of the best Mario games ever made even to this day) and Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels (the Japanese Super Mario Bros 2, which is very much like the first but is brutally difficult). I would have liked to have seen Super Mario World in this collection to really round out the package but this is certainly not a bad deal.I would recommend this.

When I saw this item was going on sale and it had 4 of my faveorite Mario games in it I had to by it as the games which I played on the NES (with so many good memorys) were on here and remade into Super Nes vision style, another great part of the package was that I would get a book and a CD with info about it's past, 10 start up game tunes on the CD with 10 sounds from the games too (not the best part of the CD) and the book wouldn't give me too much info on Mario's past. The only thing they could have done to give it a boost would have been to put Super Mario World (SNES) in it. A good deal if you liked the past games and if you want to play them as 4 for 1 for a small price.

The negative reviews in regard to this release are insane in my eyes. What exactly were you expecting? It's clearly been marketed as a re-release of the SNES Mario All Stars bundle with an added booklet/CD in some nice packaging to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the greatest gaming series of all time. All the games are still hugely entertaining (Yes, even 2; which is mediocre by Mario terms but still miles ahead of other games) and have aged extremely well.Buy this product if you're a die hard Mario fan, or for your children who have never experienced 2D Mario in all it's glory. This product gives you exactly what it says it does and that is more than enough for me.

I haven't opened the game yet, as it was meant as a xmas present. The reason for my early review is that the game arrived in not-so-nice conditions. The box gives the impression there were stickers all over and that these were ripped off, leaving white dots and marks all over. So if, like me, you consider this as a xmas gift, you mind end up with an annoying decision between offering something that looks worn or just keeping it to yourself and go to the next store to get another. Returning it is out of the question for me as I live abroad and paid custom charges and what not already. That aside, can't wait to play it. <3 Mario

RE-LIVE THE YEARS WHERE IT ALL BEGAN-ORIGINALLY RELEASED ON THE NES SYSTEM AS INDIVIDUAL GAMES,THEN AS SUPER MARIO ALL STARS,AS IT IS NOW,ON THE SNES-AND WHAT VALUE FOR MONEY YOU GOT THERE-NOW IT'S FOR THE WII,AND,THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS ONE IS YOU PLAY IT WITH THE GAMECUBE CONTROLLER.IF NINTENDO MADE ALL THEIR GAMES WITH THE CUBE CONTROLLER THEY WOULD CERTAINLY OUTSELL X-BOX AND PLAYSTATION,BECAUSE,LETS FACE IT,THE NUNCHUNK IS A LOAD OF RUBBISH AND THESE CONTROLLERS JUST GURANTEE YOU WILL NEVER COMPLETE ANY GAME

Many other people have reviewed this product so I'll just add one thing...Yes it is expensive for a snes game that would typically go for £7 on the virtual console. However, you can sell the game when you are done. This is something you can't do on the VC. Depending on how long you keep the game for, it may only cost you £7 after the sale. In my experience mario wii games hold there value really well!I'd reccomend an exchange at cex or a sale on eBay to maximise resale value.Paul

I already knew this game from when my son was younger, he loved all the Mario series, now my grandson has the Mario bug but had never seen the original games. He has been playing Mario 2 as it's so unlike the rest of the series, although I think Mario 3 is a brilliant game. When I ordered the game I was given a timescale for the goods arriving, but in fact they came much sooner that expected, overall I am very pleased with the product.

This is the must-have purchase for all Mario fans. Us older fans are taken back to our younger days and the younger ones get a feel for how gaming used to be! Four classic games in one and extras too. All I need now are some wired controllers to really go back in time! Despite the simplicity of the games compared with modern games my kids still love it and go back to it again and again. A great buy for the youngsters and us oldies too.

I grew up playing the games contained in this Mario set and have had great fun reminiscing! I'm surprised at how hard they are compared to the newer Super Mario games. This may be due to the controls which aren't as responsive as they are on other consoles (in my opinion). There are plenty of games to keep you busy for a long time and I just know it's something I will keep coming back to time and time again.

Everything, from the box to the game and the DVD history lesson in between, recounts childhoods spent playing these games until the early hours. Feels like a genuine love letter to Nintendo's history, until you pop the disk in and realise it's essentially an emulated version of the original Mario All-Stars running on your Wii. If that's not a derogatory thing to you, there are none better.
